Dolphins struggling offense needs to wake up

On Tuesday I reported to you that Dolphins offensive coordinator Mike Sherman had a career chat with his players and implored them to overcome the difficulties of the past couple of weeks and make their sons proud.

It was Sherman's way, I guess, of challenging his players.

Well, I challenge Mike Sherman to make necessary corrections and make fans proud -- because the offense the Dolphins have been putting on tape for much of this season, and particularly lately, simply isn't good enough.

Consider:

The Dolphins are averaging 19.2 points per game this season. That is 25th in the NFL.

That is the worst mark in the AFC East so far.

That is worse than a season ago when Miami averaged what we all considered an unacceptable 20.6 points per game.

The Dolphins have not scored a touchdown in six quarters.

The Dolphins are tied with Kansas City for the fewest passing TDs in the NFL (6) so far this season.

This is not good. Fact is, it is terrible because the Dolphins haven't exactly been playing stellar competition. The hard part of the schedule is coming up, believe it or not, after the Buffalo game.

“I think it’s just a lot of things that we just have to execute better," Sherman said. "It’s typical coach talk. We’ve got to execute a lot better. We’ve got to not have penalties. Not turn the ball over. Those things all play a part in it. Got to have good plays. I’ve got to call good plays -- make sure they’re the ones that apply specifically to that defense.

"There’s a lot of reasons, which we have to get fixed. There’s no question. This is unacceptable."

Correct!

Unacceptable.

I cringe at the idea that Miami still has to play against the San Francisco and Seattle defenses.

The situation is frustrating because generally the Miami defense and special teams have been good enough, with the exception of the last two losses to Indianapolis and Tennessee, to provide Miami with a winning team.

So the offense needs to hop on its horse and giddyup.

The Bills, Thursday night's opponent, provide an opportunity. The Bills, to put it diplomatically, stink on defense.

They give up more points (31.7) per game than any other NFL team. They are dead last in the NFL in rushing yards allowed per game. Combined, they allow 410 yards per game on the ground and through the air and that's 31st of 32 teams.

So the Bills are possibly a prescription for what ails the Dolphins offense.

Of course, I kind of thought that last week before the Tennessee game.

WTH are you Guys fighting over? You don't know each other from Adam. Except for me, I'm in the Yellow Pages.

We need to chill out on tannehill he needs more talent around him let him play and learn the kin has only made 29 starts in college and the pros I think he is doing a great job with what he has we cannot afford to turn the ball over and expect to win go ryan go prove these idiots wrong

Odin....I apologize to the High Schoolers....

When Jeff Ireland gets around to drafting or signing some good offensive players there will be nothing left to criticize.

See, the way we Cubans do the Turkey, we season it with Cuban mojo(x 2 days) and baste it with butter. Then we finish cooking our rice and Red beans INSIDE the cavity of the Bird. How bout it, you like some?

Oh, I thought they had stole my recipe.

and what did he did on college? he lost every important game, he refuse to throw to the endzone since he was in college, and Tanehill supporters are making the same excuses that were made with Chad Henne, no offensive line, no WR, blah, blah, this is the same team that ended last season very strong under Moore, and the same team that score 31 points just 3 weeks ago under Moore, the thing is that every NFL team play better in all aspects when they have a productive QB. This team wants Moore, start him and everything will click.

If I'm Woody Johnson and Andy Reid is out there, I get rid of Ryan and company in a heartbeat and sign Reid up. Does anyone see this getting better under Ryan?

Posted by: Craig M | November 14, 2012 at 11:18 AM

NOPE!

But I see some lucky team getting an excellent Defensive Coordinator out of the deal.

I don't know what Ryan was thinking bringing in Sporano(actually, I THINK I do), but he'll have to step back down to DC before he gets another chance(If he EVER gets another chance at a Head Coaching Job. After all, there is only 32).

I like what little I've seen of Coyle. I like what he did with some retreads and Cinci's secondary. But if you had your choice right here, right now, TODAY!

Coyle or Rex Ryan as your Defensive Coordinator?

Once again he is a rookie that needs to get game experience, this was deemed a rebuilding year at the beginning. They over achieved and now some of you are freaking out. Moore got beat but Tannehill at the beginning of the year guy.. theres a reason hes been a back up on every team hes been on. One team cuts him in Dallas and then the panthers give him a shot to draft another qb to replace him and now hes a back up on the fins.. look at the pattern...
Go stick with the Heat you fair weather fan and dont come back

So youre counting the points that the Special teams and Defense scored part of Matt Moores points? lol clown... Henne got a receiver and did nothing with him.. Give Tannehill a game changer and see waht happens. then if he doesnt perform get him out.. The two receivers he does have are having career years..

He did NOT beat anybody on the "PRESEASON" Matt Moore deserve the starting job and not that so called "competition" yes, Phanters made the same mistake and now look where they are? with all the Newton hype??? the reason he has been a backup is because there is a lot of mediocre people making decisions and evaluating talent on the NFL, and here in Miami, fans are very stupid, they were crying for a good QB, and when we found him, the so called "fans" treat him like garbage! I want to see your comments after tomorrow game.

Go dolphins go to buffalo and win the game period next topic as for you idiots go kill yourself

Ross and company thought that Tanehill will increase ticket sales, thats why they switch to him, because fans did not like Moore (he wasnt a draft pick) well, let me told you that last week game was the must empty stadium that I have ever seen on the NFL! after all wins is all that count, for wins you need Moore and quickly!

He did get beat out guy.. Moore playd against the 3-4s and looked like garbage.. Tannehill played against teh 3-4 and tore them up.. When playing against the starters and 2s both looked mediocre but RT numbers were better.. those are facts.. go look them up

11-5...........KRIS....

TO
BE
OR
NOT
TO
BE..................

Im counting the TD that the offense scores (3) and like I said, the whole team plays better and feels good when they have a good QB playing, and the other way around when they have a QB that only reach the 10 yard line and thats it, or throw a pick, or worse a 6 pick every player feels down, thats normal.

WHERES THAT GEFFNY GUY ? WHEN HE CAME AND SIGNED WITH THE DOLPHINS,THE WHOLE WORLD WAS SHAKEN ........

i'm sorry, I do not look to any stats on PRESEASON, like any good coach out there, you wont bench your best and starting QB because of a bad little PRESEASON, cant find the stats, they are not even there! what I know is that RT is dead last on the NFL in TD (REAL SEASON), with Bush, Bess, and Hartline who by the way was open in the endzone several times last week, but Tanehill like the 8 yard pass better!

WHERE'S JABAR GAFFNEY ?

When you have a white guy thats your best WR, thats not a good thing.

Posted by: Clue | November 14, 2012 at 12:46 PM

Maybe I'm just a bit behind the times. But in MY day, this line would have read:

When you have a white guy that's your best WR, thats not a good ""THANG"!

LOL @ Troll Bu-oy. Everybody got his number, so he's resorting to racist remarks in trying to get a rise.

Pathetic, yet HILARIOUS. You take idiocy and make it an Art Form. Kudo's to you!

Good Day ;)

gaffneys still looking for tom brady

What the titans defense did to Miami's offense was no fluke, and regardless what people think about Tannehills poor play: He is not the problem. The titans did not blitz, they stayed back in coverage and focused on stopping the run. This style proved that miami has no wide recievers that can beat any DB's on a consistant basis, especially when it appears Miami can't run the ball. Tannehill has done a remarkable job with this WR group. Unfortunatly the only time they can beat at defense is when there blitzing and leaving WR either open, or allowing seems because linebackers or DB's are out of the picture. I also think the only reason we ran the ball so well is because of teams blitzing and leaving lanes for Bush to exploit. Without blitzing Bush can't get any big runs, and the line is not opening any holes for the RB's either. I will not be surprised if the dolphins don't win another game this year if defenses take the same approach the Titans did. Miami has no weapons that can beat a defense, and in the Sherman offense you need Fast playmakers.. I think it's time to see what are Rookie WR and TE can do.. There both fast for there position. And remember in the off season, many experts believed that Long was to big and slow for this type of Running Scheme, its becomeing apparent.. It is going to be a long rest of the season, i just hope Tennehill doesn't get killed...

I dont know why they're continuing to play Tannehill when the backup is so much better then the starter.

Everyone who thinks Moore is a better QB then Tannehill..... are completely out of there minds... And never watched Moore play on a regular basis.....

Yup, because 9 games into a guys career is time to call it... Man that rules out: Steve Young, Elway, etc etc
STFU please, no one cares.

Who is this GUY?

His sign in name alone intimidates Mando's Be-Atch-LOL.

You can call yourself "CommonSense" all you like. But I'm going to call you:

Good Posts Today!

Drops passes is doing us in receivers and defensive backs. It been a lease 3 pick 6.

Has Ireland been fired yet?

12-4......ODIN........

11-5......... KRIS

Everyone remember who Moore had at WR to throw the ball to..... Marshall is a diva, headcase... but he is an elite WR... he made Henne look good at times... If Tannehill had Marshall or even a WR a step below his level like Mike Wallace or any of the three steelers Wr's, we would not even be hearing these crazy people make that comment....

odin, have you any idea how annoying your posts are? do you really think anybody is entertained by them? you bring on all the crap that comes your way and you perpetuate it with your juvenile responses.

IS FL STILL THINK,THAT THEY CAN DECIDE ANY ELECTION ?

I HAVE THE FEELING IRELAN WILL BE FIRED NEXT 2 WEEKS /

Odin,

Maybe you can finally explain to us your daily obsession with meth and deek? Nobody else has it. Nobody else does it. Only you. Every single day. Why?

Aloco, the new name for Kris and Odin is chitmouth.

I AM SO HAPPY TO HEAR THE CUBAN MENECE IS OUT OF JAIL AFTER A MONTH IN A CELL FOR FALLING TO PAY HIS STUDIO RENT FOR 3 YEARS .....

hey Red, maybe you dont even got the QB right? Moore is # 8, the one who won 6 games on the last 9 last year, Tanehill is the one that is playing now # 17, just in case!

BUD...................NOTICE ,HOW KRIS SHOWS UP ONLY WHEN THE DONKEYS ARE AROUND ,TO MAKE HIMSELF SOUND SMART ,AMONG DONKEYS.......

From craigs response to beerphin and WHrb's! He truly just Loves to be on the other side! With no real Opinion on what he is talking about! Except calling someone else a idiot.

No Wonder everyone else can "see" what is going on except CRAIG!

Posted by: Dashi | November 14, 2012 at 02:45 PM

Dashi, calm down. It's OK man, you guys have a difference of OPINION. Thats All! Craig has his own opinions(and he can be hard headed. Just don't tell him I said so).

But he doesn't just take the other side for arguments sake. He's a good fan and a good poster. Whether he's right, wrong or somewhere in the middle, he's just offering up opinions. Just like you and I do.

Which, coincidentally(LOL), brings me too Dansby. If you could take your two opinions of Dansby and average it out, thats about where I am on the subject. At least at the moment.

Ultimately, you guys are both good posters. Cordial disagreements and differences in opinions are what makes this place interesting too me. So I say to both of you guys: Good Job Today!

This article seems to have been written by someone with an extreme case of amnesia. Was it not a short 3 months ago when every reporter and every fan were asking out loud where the big plays will come from?

Did we not all just live through that in the off season Every day, a new article or new fan imploring Ireland (the same guy who publicly admitted we have a bunch of 3's 4's and 5's) to sign a wide receiver, or a TE, or a proven back to compliment Bush.

The questions about the offensive line, was I dreaming all of this? Now we're HAPPY that John Jerry is the starter? Why again, keeping in mind we are still watching Martin get his growing pains out of the way, is this a good thing when he still can't seem to run block or move anyone off the line on short yardage situations? The right side of our line is a question mark at best.

Sorry but didn't we all know the offense was going to struggle badly this year because of these obvious shortcomings?

But now it's Sherman's fault? I guess Sherman should be turning this team full of backups into champions with his play calling.

Crazy that these things are so easily forgotten when looking for ,,,,well apparently one person to blame.

PHINS.........IT'S SHERMAN'S FAULT , HE'S THE WHO PUSHS TO RELEASE PLAYERS AND SIGN FA ONES..........I CAN TEEL HE PUSHED TO GET MARSHALL OUT ,AND HE DIDN'T PUSH TO SIGN ANY GOOD ONES........

BTW......WHERE'S JABAR GAFFNEY ,THE GREAT ?

HE'S THE ONE WHO

"Everyone who thinks Moore is a better QB then Tannehill..... are completely out of there minds."

Lets not confuse things here. There isn't an "everyone". But there is a SOMEONE who changes his name in order to agree with his own moronic opinions.

..Red. Good post @ 5:23...

It is very difficult to guage Tannehill at this point because of the limited weapons we have at our desposal. Hartline is a good player, but not the caliber of reciever that is consistant enough to be a threat every week. Bess? he is a great reciever if you have other guys that can get open so he can operate underneath. That is who we have. Add Fasano as a third target, and that is it.

This whole scheme is dependant on being able to spread the ball around. We can't do this. It is 3 guys that get the majority of the targets, and completions. For 1 it makes it pretty easy to defend. 2 for a rookie, or any young quarterback to have to try and run an offense where you can only depend on 3 of your guys is a difficult task. 3 add that the running game has not been affective(minus the first half of the Indy game where the offense was efficient)I think that Tannehill cannot be soley to blame for the problems on offense.

I said it 2 days ago. Tannehill had his worst game of his short career. Did anyone really expect he would go the remainder of the year without a speed bump? He improved from his week one performance. Lets see what he, and the team do this week. If the running game can get on track. I see no reason why Tannehill can't either. Even with the limited weapons at his disposal.

PHINS 78......... CAN YOU WRITE WITH MORE FOUCS AND CUT DOWN ON YOUR LONG POSTS.....

I have a feeling it's gonna be hard to watch tomorrow night. The bills played pretty decent against the pats. I think they're gonna rip us a new one.

After the last 2 weeks I'm not sure if Coyle and sherman will be here next year

Posted by: BoulderPhinFan | November 14, 2012 at 03:58 PM

Yep, I was thinking the same thing. I was ALMOST going to agree. Then I read your culminating comment-ROTFLMFAO!

Only a Fvcking Tard would think OC's and DC's are hired and fired over the performance of a two week span.

Guy, just stop. I'm not talking to fakers any more. You're done with me. Stop with all of your nonsense, I'm no longer interested in entertaining you.

THAT WAS A SHORT POST AND TO THE POINT,...

Posted by: Tanehill tipped again | November 14, 2012 at 05:15 PM

Preseason stats are pretty easy to find.. but thats what coaches do incase you didnt know.. they evaluate their team and players in the preseason and name starters based off of what they saw in the preseason dumbass lol where did you learn about football?
RT is the most accurate QB in the NFL with the long ball so if you want to throw out stats theres you one.. try again..

Posted by: Tanehill tipped again | November 14, 2012 at 05:37 PM

Why do Moore fans focus on a 9 game span? He was the QB for 12-13 games last season He started 0-4 jacktard.. stop trying to use statistics to your favor and give the entire picture..

Sparano and Moore have a good relationship. What about in the offseason offering a straight swap, Moore for Tebow?

Well Moore is better than Sanchez so maybe he will go to the Jets

...Odin..Well said @ 5:39..

Since you are here..What do you know about Modulus basses? I have a friend that owes me some cash, and said he would trade me the bass in exchange. It is a 6 string. Way more then I can handle right now, especially with all the fancy gadgets in the bass..It may be worth just grabbing to have down the line..What say you?

..Sorry..5 string bass. ?????????

Take the money DD. Down the line you can get a 5 string bass if you want, otherwise it may just lay under the bed forever.

...Geronimo..The bass is worth 700 bucks more then he owes me. I'm not skilled enough to play a 5 string yet, don't really need it. I just know these are supposed to be pretty sweet instruments.

Really..........REALLY?

This guy sounds SLIGHTLY more intelligent than a SLUG-LOL. So I have my doubts that it's Monkey Bu-oy.

A cousin maybe(I'm sure there are some common genetic traits involved)?
-------------------------------------------------------

The problem with this team is: Ryan Tanehill, plain and simple,

-Yeah because we know our O-line, our secondary, our LB's and all our Skill positions on offense are Top Notch.............Right?
-------------------------------------------------------
Matt Moore is far better than him, and he is only 28, no need to draft another bust and waste another season,

-There is so much wrong in this one sentence, it's amazing. I can't believe you stuffed this much WRONG into one short sentence. Kudo's for a........um.........well....................

The ignorance in this statement leaves me(almost-lol)speechless. Moore blew chunks all camp and in the pre season as well. The draft was 7 months ago.

As far as wasting another season, um fella, this is year one of a rebuild. I'm sure though, with our great 1-7 start last year, you wanted to carry on, right? You wanted to take the team that went 6-10 - 6-10 and 7 and 9 and continue on. Business as usual.....right?
-------------------------------------------------------

there is still time though, but they dont want to expose the big mistake that they made, unless Tanehill goes down with an injury, they will stick with him, in the mean time, I'll stick with the Heat.

Take that fair weather train right on out of here Bro. You won't be missed.

On the bright side, if this fair weather fan really did leave, the collective intelligence level of this blog just took a ginormous leap FORWARD-LOL!

ValHalla!!!!

DD

You can always get them. Nobody is going to give you near that price for a used instrument. You'd be lucking to get 350 for it. Seriously, anything more and they are likely to buy new

It seems like it's going just as Las Vegas said, 7-9. If you are going to bet, don't bet against LV.

Don't buy into the instrument hype. Unless you are buying a very rare breed, you'll never get your money out of it.

Craig quit acing like a tough guy, your soft son. Talking about punching someone lights out answer this how can a kid punch someone light out? BWHAHAHAH

Matty,

Stop talking to the Morons!!

Moron- a Matt Moore Fan.

And Odin,

Would agree with the Craig M. Thang. The guy is even more hostile than The Dashi!!! And Super hard headed!!!

Notice he whines about the TE from the Seahawks! Getting $7mil!! Yet, he defends the $16 million dollar duo!! Ridiculous!!!

And U saw my Stat! 3 of the TOP 5 TACKLERS ARE ROOKIES! Dansby is #26! Burnett too low to remember! And C.Lofton! Is #4! A guy the saints signed after they knew Vilma wouldn't play!

Just saying U can get a lot more for less! Look around the league!

And Oscar,

Dashi didn't say that about Burnett! But ur right!! Burnett calls a better game! And Makes the Proper Adjustments!

Dashi Theory!

The Fins let Dansby Play MLB!! BECAUSE HE MAKES THE MOST MONEY!! CAUSE WE ALL KNOW K.BURNETT IS THE BETTER MLB!!! IT'S JUST UR LEADER!! SHOULD BE THE MLB!!! NOT A OLB!! And since dansby is supposedly our best LB!! He gets to roam the Middle! Even though! He has never played MLB!!! And We ALL CAN SEE THE MLB POSITION! IS TO MUCH FOR DANSBY!!

AGAIN, LB LAND!!!!

THE AREA BETWEEN THE LINE OF SCRIMMAGE!! AND THE FIRST DOWN MARKER!! SIDELINE TO SIDELINE!!!

WHERE DO THE FINS GET SCHOOLED?

IN LB LAND!!!

THIS SECONDARY IS BETTER THAN LAST YEAR! AND THAT'S WITHOUT VONTAE!! AND MARSHA 2.0!!!

LAST YEAR!! WE GOT BEAT DEEP A HECK OF A LOT MORE!!! OR WE ARE ALL FORGETTING!

REMEMBER THE FIRST GAME!! LAST YEAR!!

Oscar,
