Russell Wilson great but not as much on the road

Ryan Tannehill or Russell Wilson. Which of these two rookie quarterbacks is playing better right now?

Definitely Wilson. No doubt.

By every measurable statistical standard Wilson is the better player today. The former third round draft pick has been a pleasant surprise for the Seattle Seahawks and has been, arguably, one of the top two productive rookie quarterbacks in the league this season.

But before you become depressed about the quarterback matchup Sunday, you must understand there are two Russell Wilsons -- the home Russell and the away Russell.

And the home Russell is amazing while the away Russell is still playing like a rookie.

At home Wilson has completed 69 of 111 passes for 935 yards. That means he's completing an impressive 62.2 percent of his passes. But that is not his most impressive statistic at home.

Wilson, 23 years old, has thrown 11 TDs and zero interceptions at home.

His quarterback rating is 122.0 at home.

Impressive.

On the road, Wilson has been merely mortal. He's completed 88 of 142 passes, again for a 62 percent completion mark. He's thrown for 892 yards with four touchdowns and eight interceptions. His quarterback rating is 65.8.

So that should give you hope.

The problem is Tannehill hasn't been significantly better at home than Wilson has been on the road.

Tannehill is completing 58.2 percent of his passes of home and has thrown three touchdowns and four interceptions. His rating is 70.4 at home.

Indeed, away Tannehill has been almost more dynamic, throwing for nearly twice as many yards and averaging 7.60 yards per completion compared to 5.96 yards per completion at home. His QB rating on the road is higher at 71.1.

And so the question for Sunday will be can home Ryan be better than away Russell.

If Miami could run the ball like seattle does, then Tannehill would have better stats then also.

YG,

From the last blog, I agree, the 1st round pick will be a defensive player. My money is still on a pass rusher, as I believe the Dolphins will realize that Starks will be too expensive and they will move more to a true 4-3 defence, with Odrick moving inside. There are needs at CB and WR but to me those can be achieved easily in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. I think you'll be disappointed and Dansby will be back, maybe at a reduced salary.

The team gets back on their winning ways Sunday. Just remember where you heard it first (right, Kris).

Armando,

Wilson is surrounded with beter offensive weapons than Tannehill. His defense doesnt drop ints and pic 6's. All around, Seattle has a better overall roster.

If we play soft we'll be blown out regardless of what Wilson's road record is. Almost every nfl qb is a great matchup against our porous pass d.

I would not be surprised if Wilson has a great passing day.

CraigM,

I believe you'll be disappointed with your pass rusher wish. Do you reallyu think Ireland drafted Vernon with the 3rd rd pick last year to use a #1 pick at pass rusher this year?

Now, if we were drafting further down the draft then went bpa, the pick could by default be a pass rusher. We probaly draft top 10 this year. Drafting a pass rusher top 10 is a direct indictment of Vernon. Its saying thanks, but we're quickly moving on.

Te'o's definitely top10 draft worthy. Still, if we didnt draft T'eo 1st rd, I would expect to see a corner drafted before a pass rusher there.

Plus, Craig, as Ive posted to you before, I see some very good college pass rushers. But I dont see anyone that looks like a can miss instantly dominating guy. I see T'eo as that playing mlb and we badly need an impact corner.

No more 2nd rd Sean Smiths.

Isn't this a good time for all of us to revisit Matt Flynn? Remember him? And remember the hand-wringing that the Dolphins couldn't close the deal, so he slipped to the Seahawks? Well, he's sure doing a good job up in Seattle keeping that bench warm for Russell Wilson. Good call by the Dolphins staff.

The Seahawks suck on the road...The Dolphins have to win this game. Winning teams take care of business at home against teams like Seattle. Another loss would be another reason to get rid of Ireland...

CraigM,

Dont get me wrong. I would love to have a pass rusher if he steps in right away and becomes a Aldon Smith.

Look at the pass rushers drafted 1st rd this season. None of them are dominating. There's not one among them that name has truly stood out this season.

Im afraid to risk that ahead of grabbing a defensive guy with all pro potential written all over him. I rather grab a very good corner instead.

let bush go
let dansby's big contract go
we are forced to franchise Long....one bad season does not mean we can give up yet, but no long term neither unless he is willing negotiate for under 10 mil a yr.
Starks and Smith arw tough ones......I say keep starks and let Smith go if price tag too high. Smith is not bad 2nd corner , but to pay no.1 corner money is ridiculous.
Sign Greg Jennings(best route runner in nfl) and resign Hartline who would shine against 2nd corners.
Trade for G Olsen(3rd rder for marshall)
Draft best cb/lb avail in first.
OHHHHHH, and start Lamar Miller and keep R Jones in lineup!

1st pick must be bpa of TE. WR, CB.

Hopefully we get our run game going, wear out their defense in the heat (even 70 is hot for Seattle) and then can do something in the 2nd half. Wilson's road INTs isn't really a factor because...Miami's secondary doesn't catch any passes. If we can hold them from scoring TDs (like we did Buffalo) we might have a chance.

Take care of business against teams "like Seattle"? Well, the Seahawks are a lot better than you think. Certainly better than us right now.

The 6-4 record isnt all smoke and mirrors. Guarantee Russell Wilson wouldnt be doing nearly as well with this core of recievers.

Yesterday, Seattle sucks on the road...Hello...

I wouldnt exactly call Seattle a top tier team, but theyve slowly built a very good team over there.

Montreal,

We suck at home, so everything's even. Right?

Montreal,

Im also sure the 20,000 fans that show up for the game will make Seattle feel right at home too. We may have to pipe crowd noise into the stadium. LOL...

From Last Blog

What Where the Holes? Before this Season?

QB, RT, TE, Secondary!

We Fixed 2 of the 4! With No Cap Space And Limited Picks!! AGAIN!! EGNEW WAS THE 3rd TE TAKEN! AND WAS RATED AS THE 3RD BEST TE!! AND TE WAS A BIGGER NEED THAN WR! AT THAT POINT!

AND WE ADDED 2 OTHER VALUABLE PICKS!! Vernon And Miller! Vernon Helps Solidify! The D-Line And Pass Rush! AND L.MILLER MAKES LETTING REGGIE GO! EASY!

AGAIN!!

THE HOLES ARE SIMPLE! For Next Year!

LB, WR, CB, FS, OG! TE's Are Not that Special!!

Agreed! That We are Building Thru the Draft!! NOW DOES THAT MEAN NO HIGH $$$ FREE AGENTS!!

ONLY FILL HOLES THRU THE DRAFT?

IF THAT'S THE CASE SAY NO TO WALLACE AND FINLEY!! THE FINS WILL DRAFT!! THE PLAYERS!! NOT SIGN SOMEBODY ELSE'S!(Which Dashi is OK With)

Expect Next Year! To Be the Rebuilding Year!! This is a Evaluation Season!! U Guys are going to be jumping off the Cliff!! NEXT YEAR!!

Get Rid Of The Insubordinate! And Those Who Don't Want It!! OR Don't Fit!!

The Fins Have the 5th Youngest Offense In THE NFL!! BUT THE 14th Youngest Defense!! THE DEFENSE NEEDS YOUNG TALENT!! Specially at THE LINEBACKER POSITION!!!

-------------------------------------------------------

With That Said!

What U On Craig!!

Even If U Move Odrick Inside! To His Natural Position! The FINS CAN START VERNON!! AT 22 Next Year!! Opposite Wake! Shelby can Back Up! Vernon And Wake! THE D-Line!! Doesn't Need High Picks!! Not Next Year!!

NOW WE ARE RUNNING A 4-3!!! AND WHAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT POSITION IN A 4-3?

LET ME GIVE U A HINT!!!!!!!!!

ONLY ONE OF THESE IN A 4-3!!!

U GET
2 DE's
2 DT's
2 CB's
2 Safeties
2 OLB's
1 ???
-------------------------------------------------------

NOW YG,

U Know Ireland has a Sick Fetish Of Drafting Multiples Of a Position! In Every Draft!

Maybe Next Year its LB's! 1st Pick- OLB, 2nd Pick- MLB! Or Vice Versa! Te'o First! And a D.Brooks Type OLB!! ON THE OUTSIDE!!

-------------------------------------------------------

Some of U guys Want! A PASS RUSH OLB!!

YET DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT THE FINS ARE TRYING TO RUN ON DEFENSE!!! A Hybrid Defense! Out of a 4-3 Set!!

OUR BASE DEFENSE!!! IS A 4-3 COVER 2!!! Like The Bears Run! Like The Seahawks Run! THE FAMOUS TAMPA COVER 2!! WHAT JIMMY JOHNSON RAN!!!

WHAT WAS AN INTEGRAL PART!! OF THE JJ DEFENSE!! FAST LB's!! SAME AS WHEN THE TAMPA 2!! WAS DOMINANT!!

THE D-LINE!! RUSHES!! AND STOPS THE RUN UP THE MIDDLE!

THE LB's GO SIDELINE TO SIDELINE!!

AND U HAVE 2 SAFETIES THAT COVER HALF A FIELD EACH!!

Montreal,

Seattle should feel right at home palying in front of our home crowd of 5,000 fans. We may have to pipe crowd noise into the stadium for this game.

DC,

I wouldn't count on it with this O-line.

If our supposedly good defense can't beat Wilson, who already sucks on the road, then maybe it is a bit overrated...I mean if we'd be facing Brady, fine...But Wilson? I mean, yeah, he's been a pleasant surprise for the Seahawks but a good defense playing at home should kick his butt...If not, again, one more reason to fire Ireland...It's getting pretty depressing to talk about drafts when the season is only halfway through...

Montreal,

Just like WHDP's just posted, this defense cant catch picks anyway. So Wilson throwing picks will be a non factor. We'll drop everyone of them.

Especially if thrown at Smith or Dansby.

clue, since when is Seattle a powerhouse? Yeah, record of 6-4...So what? I'm tired of finding reasons why we SHOULDN'T win a game...Like I said, if we can't win a game like this, it's time to get rid of our GM...

I'm glad none of you are players. With your can't win attitude we'd go 1-15 every season.

I read that we're going to have about $40 Million in cap space after the season but the sense I get is that we're going to be stuck with overpaying Long & Smith b/c we have no one else to play those positions. My best guess is that Long will be franchised & that we're going to give Smith an extension for more than he's worth.

I think we'd be crazy to let Hartline or Starks go but I can see that happening (I think Starks will hit the FA market) b/c of the money that will be committed to Long & Smith.

This was directed at you, "Home"

"And so the question for Sunday will be "Home" Ryan be better than away Russell."

Since your assessment of Ireland's 2012 draft picks admittingly has been more accurate than anyone elses to date, and you seem to have an uncanny knack on Miami score predictions, i am asking your opinion as well as all the other bloggers.

It's funny some of you worrying about the cap space. You have no clue how its managed and what their options are. Leave that to the finance folks and stick to guessing about players that you will be wrong about most of the time.

Yesterday, tell me about it...Smith would drop a freakin beach ball...If for some reason they re-sign this stiff, I give up...

"Take care of business against teams "like Seattle"? Well, the Seahawks are a lot better than you think. Certainly better than us right now.

YG,

Russell also has a better O-line & a much better RB. Seattle has actually done a really nice job of rebuilding.

The Fins have better WR's!!

I want to hear that out of 1 of UR Mouths! T-Hill has better Weapons than The Seahawks!!!

The Defense! Is Over Rated!! But We all Know the Problem IS In The Short Game!!

WE CAN STOP LYNCH!!!

THESE KIND OF RB'S DON'T HURT THE FINS!! THE LINE CAN TACKLE POWER BACKS!!

THE Fins Problem! Is When a RB hits the Second Level!! U CAN BREAK ONE!! AFTER U PASS THE FIRST LINE!!! OF Defense!!

They should be throwing to Reggie more. They havent thrown to him much besides the 1st game. How did he go from arguably our best player to the doghouse overnight?

Dashi, say what?? Short game?? What have you been watching? Have you seen Nolan Carroll?? Or Sean "Serena" Smith? Or Clemmons? The league has 33 teams and our secondary ranks 85th...WTF?

The Fins Even Line Up With the Seahawks WR!! They Don't Have a Real Burner! Or Quick Route Runners! The Seahawks Have Tall Wr's! Which Fit the Fins DB!

Who Wins In the Hole? Dansby Or Lynch? Not Even a Question!! Broken Arm Tackle!!

Russel does not have a better OL. He does seem to have pocket sense.

The Dolphins rank 9th in the league in run defense, ahead of teams like GB, NE, NYG and Seattle...Now guess where they rank in pass defense...Bottom 6...27th to be exact...

Montreal,

Agreed! If IT WAS LIKE LAST YEAR!! AND THE FINS ARE GETTING BOMBED!! BY 50 YARD PASSES!!

THE FINS ARE LOSING!! BECAUSE TEAMS TAKE 5 YARD SLANTS BETWEEN LB's AND CB's! AND TAKES THEM 15-30 Yard At A Time!! FOR FIRST DOWN AFTER FIRST DOWN!!

I UNDERSTAND WHEN A QB SCRAMBLES PAST A D-LINE!! BUT WHEN HE'S JUKING LB'S!! AND 200LB FitzPatrick!! ARE LAYING OUT LB'S WITH BLOCKS!! IT'S JUST INSULTING!!

EVEN SHAWNA SMITH!! WOULDN'T LET A QB!! CHECK HIM LIKE THAT!!

WILSON!! WOULD TAKE DANSBY OUT WITH A CONCUSSION!!

Montreal,

Smith and the Guys Still Allow Less Passes to be Completed On!! Than Dansby and Crew!!

Dansby and Crew Allow Over 65% OF THE PASSES THROWN AT THEM!! GET COMPLETED!!!

"Fail forward fast!!!"

The Dolphins rank 9th in the league in run defense, ahead of teams like GB, NE, NYG and Seattle...Now guess where they rank in pass defense...Bottom 6...27th to be exact...

#1 Dolphin Fan,

And mark my words--b/c of the lack of depth we have @ CB we'll be forced to overpay for Smith. Other than the nightmare game he had against Indy he's actually played better this year but he still can't catch & he doesn't force turnovers.

Henne!

Is The Starter For the Rest of the Year! For the Jags!!

Get Ur Henne Jersey!! Jag Fans!!

WHDP, from the last blog. You're right about Craig M.

He won't give Philbin a pasd but he wants everyone to give Ireland another free pass. His 6th.

He is rebuilding the shi&ty team that he helped build in the first place.

TEXT BOOK INSANITY! Some people are just oblivious.

Speaking of oblivious, look at Dashi. Claimed on the last blog that Matthews was active along with Gaffney last week.

Must not have known Gaffney didn't suit up. Funny stuff from these "bloggers".

"Russel does not have a better OL. He does seem to have pocket sense."

Our Picks,

And Kapernick probably doesn't have a better O-line or a better running game either just a better pocket sense than Tannehill right???

From the last blog.....

"-- we should now be understanding that these moves that pick up somebody else's discards after training camp rarely work to any great degree." (Mando)

This has been a pattern way too long. Winning teams do it only when players go down with an injury. And seem to do a better job of it. Case in point: NE working out Plaxico Burress.

Let's see. Who would have helped this team more, Miller or Burress? Bad personnel decisions in the draft are compounded later in the season. Why?

Dashi, as far as I'm concerned, Linebackers should be the last thing to look for in the offseason...What the Dolphins need to become a dominant defense is a real pass rusher other than Wake, a real shutdown corner and a playmaking FS that can come up with INTs once in a while...When was the last time the Dolphins had a great FS??? The last decent one was probably Brock Marion...

I think I agree that we will franchise Long and probably overpay for Smith. However, if we are looking at FA's I think we have anough cap space for a wde receiver and a CB.

Most likely Hartline, and Starks are gone. Though it appears that Ireland has had good lock with drafting or aquiring D-lineman, so maybe Starks loss would not be so detrimental. But it would still be a big loss.

I agree with looking at LB's and CB in the draft as well as a WR. If we can get Jennings (probably at $10 million a year) and maybe someone likeQuenten Jammerwho could come cheap and allow for our drafted CB to develop for a year or two.

Just my opinion.

Duh,

It makes no sense to me. Let's fire Philbin b/c the O-line can't pass protect but make sure we keep Ireland b/c he had one good draft in five years.

I am not going to Charleston, South Carolina today.

We Have Draft Picks, you might have a point...But I hope you're wrong...LOL!

Wilson will be throwing the ball ALOT with the SWISS CHEESE we have for DB's!!! Maybe they got some practice on coverage but somehow doubt it!!! Secondary has to be a priority next year then a pass rusher, then a WR!!! Tannehill would be awesome if he had some weapons to throw too!!!

Buckeye,

If you let Harltine go & you sign a high priced WR then Tannehill is still only going to have two WR's to throw the ball to next year. If your going to throw the ball 60% of the time in a WC offense you need AT LEAST 3 or 4 WR's involved in your game plan.

After the season he's having with Tannehill @ QB if Hartline is NOT re-signed then I'll be convinced that Ireland is truly a f#cking moron.

The question I am thinking about is it worth the pick and the money drafting offensive lineman in the first or second round of the draft.I would like to ask that of Joe Philbin, but on the sideline after a loss not where he will formulate a diplomatic response, because thats what Ireland, Parcells and the Dolphins have been doing. In Green Bay they were able to find o-lineman in the later rounds.

KingShula,

I'm sure Philbin was 'on board' with the decision to draft Martin in the 2nd.

King Shula--

Why don't you smash a mule in the head with a hammer and then stuff it into a wood chipper and grind its corpse up until it has the consistency of oatmeal and then eat it with your hands?

Why do we keep blaming the QB? The QB does not play defense. The OL gives our QB maybe a second and a half to get rid of the ball before they are after him. We have terrible wide receivers, and no one can get down the field. This has been going on for years, and yet it is always the QB's fault. Brady would stink on the Dolphins with our WRers. I watch on tv big plays by other teams, and I want to say I wish I could see that great play when I go to a Dolphin game. Somehow they have to get top of the line wide receivers and a CB after all these years there are still way too many holes. I don't know if it will ever get better. Please stop blaming the QB for all the ills. It is not his fault. He cannot do everything.

WHDP, I agree that hartline is the only player that can't be debated on whether he should or shouldn't come back. Guy will easily eclipse 1,000 yards. He have a limited pass offense but there's no money to give this guy a multi year deal as he enters his prime???

HUH????

DUh,

Listen Up U Queen!!

Dashi said!! With Matthews and Gaffney Being Active! One of Those Spots! Might Go To Egnew!! Now that Gaffney is Gone!!!

But Dashi Knows Ur a BLOWHARD SWORD SWALLOWER!! That Only READS!! AND REGURGITATE WHAT BENEFITS HIM!!

Let Me Guess Ur Never Wrong! Because U Come Up with a Different Name!! When U Are Wrong! Be Easy Homey!!

FOOL!!! TAKE DASHI'S NAME!! OUT UR MOUTH!! UR NOT WORTHY!! TO SAY THE DASHI'S NAME!!!

U SPINELESS COWARD!!!!! SOFTER THAN A JELLYFISH!!!

The QB CAN throw TD's on 3rd down in lieu of INT'S.
The QB CAN hit the WR's in the chest area in lieu of the GROUND at their feet.
The QB CAN get the ball passed the DL in lieu of them BATTING it down.
The QB CAN roll out of the pocket to extend a play in lieu of making the BONEHEADED plays above.

More excuses for the QB.LMAO

Mark How MAny TD's Will HArtline Have?

U take away that 1 Great Game!! And Hartline Won't Even be able to reach 900 Yards!!

FOR A #1 OPTION!! ON A TEAM WITH ONLY 1 OTHER RECEIVING OPTION!!

FLATLINE SUCKS!!! AND REAL BAD!!!

He's Part of the Problem Not the Solution!

Hartline is a #3 Option!! At Best!!

bh = #3.
db = #3.
dey ain't any 2's or 1's on the phins.

Ryan Tannehill plays like a man and that is the most important thing.
