Russell Wilson great but not as much on the road

Ryan Tannehill or Russell Wilson. Which of these two rookie quarterbacks is playing better right now?

Definitely Wilson. No doubt.

By every measurable statistical standard Wilson is the better player today. The former third round draft pick has been a pleasant surprise for the Seattle Seahawks and has been, arguably, one of the top two productive rookie quarterbacks in the league this season.

But before you become depressed about the quarterback matchup Sunday, you must understand there are two Russell Wilsons -- the home Russell and the away Russell.

And the home Russell is amazing while the away Russell is still playing like a rookie.

At home Wilson has completed 69 of 111 passes for 935 yards. That means he's completing an impressive 62.2 percent of his passes. But that is not his most impressive statistic at home.

Wilson, 23 years old, has thrown 11 TDs and zero interceptions at home.

His quarterback rating is 122.0 at home.

Impressive.

On the road, Wilson has been merely mortal. He's completed 88 of 142 passes, again for a 62 percent completion mark. He's thrown for 892 yards with four touchdowns and eight interceptions. His quarterback rating is 65.8.

So that should give you hope.

The problem is Tannehill hasn't been significantly better at home than Wilson has been on the road.

Tannehill is completing 58.2 percent of his passes of home and has thrown three touchdowns and four interceptions. His rating is 70.4 at home.

Indeed, away Tannehill has been almost more dynamic, throwing for nearly twice as many yards and averaging 7.60 yards per completion compared to 5.96 yards per completion at home. His QB rating on the road is higher at 71.1.

And so the question for Sunday will be can home Ryan be better than away Russell.

I have no problem with Tanne at QB.
I had no problem with Henne either.
I only have a problem with the QB when everyone calls him NoodleArm and the coaches have to resort to BACKDOOR football to cover for his weakness.
Winning is not the most important thing!
Self-respect and masculinity are more important.

The same people that loved Henne for 4 years now love Hennehill. Figures.

I've loved Henne for 9 years going back to his first start at Michigan.
When he came off the bench last week to throw 4 TDs (no drops)I was very proud and happy. That was manly!

OK.

Ireland does not know talent like he thinks he does, 1 decent draft in 5 years is NOT GOOD!!! Philbin & Coyle need to be in charge of what they need & Ireland just need to be canned!!!

WHRBs,

Can you please show me where I said Philbin should be fired? Again with the readoing comprehension bud. Am I going too fast for you?

YG (from earlier), you can never have enough pass rushers. To date, there's no certainty that Vernon can be a starter. There's also no certainty you're going to get that shut down corner in the first round. To me this a plan that will fail. I've seen all the Jason Allen's and the kid from NYJ that I need to see. Vernon is good for depth but let's add to it but bringing in another OLB/DE. Aldon Smith would have been great and I remember a few of us saying this guy would have been great on this team. Unfortunately he was gone before we had a shot at him.

WHDP,

I' like to keep Hartline as well. I think it would be better leverage if we aquired someone like Jennings though. But I see your point. Jennings, Hartline, Bess and a wide receiver like Allen in the 1st or Patterson in the 2nd sounds pretty good to me. Though Hartline might want #1 money and I doubt we pay him that. Again just my opinion.

Tannehill would've been a 3rd rder if Barkley and Landry didnt stay in school.

KillerFin,

So now Philbin and Coyle are going to be doing our drafting for us? Great! How's that going to work out for us? Not only is Philbin expected to work 16-18 hours a day, he's expected to find time to travel the country to evaluate talent too. Is this guy Superman?

Where's the track record to say Philbin would do a better job of evaluation talent?

YG says he leaves then comes back 15min later...can't stay away? no life? lol

Gabbert put on IR today so Henne will start against us here in 3 weeks.

Craig, anyone is better then Irescum.

"WHDP, I agree that hartline is the only player that can't be debated on whether he should or shouldn't come back. Guy will easily eclipse 1,000 yards. He have a limited pass offense but there's no money to give this guy a multi year deal as he enters his prime???

HUH????"

Mark,

I'd be pissed but not shocked if he wasn't re-signed. I just don't think Ireland knows what the hell he's doing. The guy has ONE good draft & Craig wants to throw this guy a parade.

BTW--I specifically recall a LOT of fans saying that about previous drafts in Miami so let's give it a couple of years before we can tell how good it was or not.

Too many Odricks, Vontaes, Merlings, & Pat Whites for my liking...And people STILL want to give him another year???

The interesting part is both Tannehill and Wilson were not expected to start right away. Tannehill entered training camp as the No. 3 quarterback behind veterans Matt Moore and David Garrard. But Garrard’s injury allowed more opportunity for Tannehill to compete with Moore. The rookie’s natural ability shined through to make Tannehill the Week 1 starter.

2 watt,

Craig M say he's leaving but doesnt. He lurks.

Ireland's biggest nightmare:
Henne outplays Tanne in front of Stephen Ross and a booing, mostly empty stadium.
Remember The Ross School of Business at the Univ of Mich is named after Stephen Ross.

The fear is this offseason we go out and give this year's version of Laurent Robinson a big dollar contract and he goes out and contributes 24 ctaches for 252 yards. No thanks. Get the kid in the draft and let him develop along with Tannehill. No big dollar contracts on WRs via FA please.

...Simply put. Wilson has a running game. We have lost ours and in no coincidence. Tannehill has struggled.

This isn't rocket science. If we can't run the ball Tannehill is going to continue to struggle.

Craig,
Before money is offered to FAs they have to come visit and meet with Jeff.
That being the case I don't think you need to fear any big money FAs signing here.

Can anyone talk with much conviction about Florida State DE Bjoern Werner? The next big thing or a potential bust?

Craig M,

Why wouldn;t you want to do both. Draft a stud receiver andget someone like Jennings. I mean, that certainly wouldn;t hurt T-Hill's development. Plus Jennings is familiar with Philbin and appears to be a decent character guy.

The 'Free' in Free Agency means 'Free' to go somewhere other than here.

Let's face it, pro sports, especially the NFL and NBA is nothing more than society pandering to dumb nigggers to give the rest the illusion they can be successful too. We let a few athletes make big bucks, let a few rise in politics, and it distracts them from the reality that they are an inferior species.

When I was a kid they were all speaking ebonics, and they are still speaking it and so are their children. Zero progression made. That proves it.

You could surround Tannehill with an all star team and he'd struggle.

WHRBs,

Can you please show me where I said Philbin should be fired? Again with the readoing comprehension bud. Am I going too fast for you?

Criag,

It's called sarcasm. I actually thought it was pretty damn funny that you said that Philbin shouldn't get a two year pass as HC but you're okay with Ireland getting a five year pass as GM. Does that actually make sense to you???

I sincerely hope that Ireland is paying you for all of your efforts to defend his personnel decisions in b/c if he's not I really don't get it...

Once again whenever we have more departing FAs than draft picks we are going to decline in talent and that is not something we can afford to do.

BuckeyeFinFan,

I like Jennings and I'd be interested. I just don't want big money spent on the WR position. I think there are other ways to get it done. This team hasn't drafted a WR even in the 3rd round since Patrick Turner. It's time to draft WR in one of the first two rounds.

DD,
When there is no running game the QB must act like a man and throw the ball down the field.

...Simply put. Wilson has a running game. We have lost ours and in no coincidence. Tannehill has struggled.

This isn't rocket science. If we can't run the ball Tannehill is going to continue to struggle.

Daryl,

Finally...The voice of reason!!! Thank you.

Have a great Thanksgiving tomorrow man.

..CadillacDeVille...I'm sure if we could throw the ball down the field we would.. We can't even complete routine 5-10 yard throws on a consistant basis. We can't protect well enough right now, the recievers, the wind, Sparano, Henning, Locusts, OBAMA!!!!!!

You get the point.

WHRBs,

'A five year pass' for Ireland'. Are we back to that argument again? I'm sure Bill Parcells was just along for the ride, right? I'm looking at Ireland's last two years and when I look at what he did last year and this year in the draft, along with adding guys like Moore and Bush, then I'm OK with his last couple of years. I guess we wouldn't be giving him credit for guys like Jones (who you said is playing like a Pro Bowler), Wake, Incognito, Fields or Carpenter either then, right?

We MUST understand?

Jennings is coming off injury, and due to that had a bad year this year. He's getting up in age (will be 30 next year). Definitely not worth a big contract. I do like adding a CAPABLE vet, but I would have rather gone for a guy like Reggie Wayne. Jennings will know the offense somewhat, but too many risks there (especially with the luck this team has). Vincent Jackson is also working out well in Tampa (though I don't think it was a right fit to get rid of a problem and bring in a potential problem). But in terms of talent, that's what we need (sure-handed, capable WRs with experience and guaranteed can get open).

Heck of a good draft in 2012. Solid picks for QB, RT, DE, RB at a minimum. Some of you want to write the whole draft off on Egnew and ignore the rest.

Did Craig M really mention Carpenter? LMFAO!

..We Have Draft Picks..Back at you..Have a great and safe Thanksgiving.

Some are now saying our Pouncey is better than his brother. Let's not mention anything good about Ireland though.

lol,

He was an undrafted FA. He's been a solid guy for this team for a few years. He's had a bit of a bad year but none of those were chip shots. Take a look around the league. Guys are missing kicks EVERY single week, most recently Crosby from GB.

serge,is that u?
lol

eyot, phinz pouncey was ranked 3rd.

Eyot,

That's my point EXACTLY. Completely biased opinions on Ireland, focussing on all the things he's done wrong. Let's not even mention that he did well to get a second for a lazy, inconistent, unreliable CB in Davis, who having a BIG year btw.....LOL.

Dulphins are going to get bit#h slapped on sunday! Suck boy hennehill will have a 4 int. Performance!

Russell Wilson great but not as much on the road

-Armando Salguero-

Don't quit your day job Fella. I don't expect any NFL teams to be beating down your door anytime soon.

Marino was Great as a Rookie. Not just numbers, but all the intangibles as well.

Russell Wilson GREAT?

ROTFLMAO - Ah, yeah, OK Bud.............LOL.
-------------------------------------------------------

Just for the record, Wilson doesn't even have a "Deep Ball". None whatsoever. He just lobs it up there and lets his receivers do the rest. Terrible, TERRIBLE deep ball.

Most DC's have figured this out and I hope Coyle has as well. I don't know about our DB's though. With Wilson all you have to do is get your head around and locate the ball. Something our secondary seems incapable of.

Russell Wilson Great?

Bhwaaaaaaaa Haaaaaaaaaaaa Haaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!

marino never had a run game.
lol

Craig,

Last year's draft has produced ONE starter & what's so great about signing Reggie Bush or Incognito??? Bush played well last year but this year he's been a disappointment. I don't consider a player signing a a success when the HC benches him for fumbling. As for Incognito he has not played well this year. You probably didn't notice that either b/c according to you Jake Long is still an elite LT.

Marino didnt have a SB ring either..

If Turner was a hit and UDFA Bess was a bust, nobody would bash Ireland on that. But Bess was the hit and Turner the bust, so you all focus on Turner.

What is the difference where you get them?

YG,

There's enough there enough there with pass rushing DE's in the draft in guys like Damontre Moore, Mingo and Montgomery from LSU and Dion Jordan from Oregon to be intrigued. I don't know these guys well enough to be able to talk intelligently about them, and I realize none of them ar slamdunks but they are certainly worth exploring.

Getting a #2 for Vontae was a fine move. He could have settled for a #3 and some other GM's would have, but he held his cards and held out for a better offer.

Did Craig M really mention Carpenter? LMFAO!

LOL,

Ha!!! Yes he did. When someone has to defend a GM by using a Kicker & a Punter as two of his best personnel moves then you understand why this will be our 4th consecutive losing season.

I say Ireland is doing a phenomenal job so let's keep Ireland for another 5 years!!!

Miami actually doesn't have a huge amount to spend in free agency next year despite the (false) belief otherwise.

The vast majority of that cap space will be consumed by signing their own players and draft choices.

Either way, may of you are typical fans in believing that FA is some kind of cure-all panacea. You could not be more wrong.

The best franchises such as the Steelers, Giants and Patriots typically have the most boring and inactive offseasons and of course NEVER listen to stupid fan pleas to sign this guy or that.

Ross is probably dumb enough to respond to the idiot fans, however, and pursue some overpaid, overhyped "name" to appease the fools.

And will use it to draft another acorn that doesn't work out in the end.

u spent a 1 on vd.
u spent 2 2's 4 bm and gotz back 2 3's.?
uh. dat b backwards.
lol

Martin looked bad in preseason. His name was called a lot for the wrong reasons. Once the season started his name is rarely called, which is a good thing for a rookie playing a new position. Give him another year and he will be a solid RT for years to come.

"If Turner was a hit and UDFA Bess was a bust, nobody would bash Ireland on that. But Bess was the hit and Turner the bust, so you all focus on Turner.

What is the difference where you get them?"

Eyot,

It doesn't matter where you find them. Bess & Hartline have been playing great this year. The problem is that there's not another WR involved in the offense. Hopefully that guy can be Matthews but you can't expect to beat teams with only two guys who can consistently catch the football.

WHRBs,

Yeah I woouldn't expect you to be balanced and mention that Bush had his first 1,000 yard rushing season last year but rather to focus on the one game he was benched for this year. You're right for a 5th round pick, it was a TERRIBLE trade. Should have been fired for it, gotcha.

Incognito, starter ever since he's been here. Solidified the OL. Yep, another terrible pick up. Gotcha....

he will b moved to lt next season.

Many of you are nothing but a bunch of Negative Nancy's.

You are too happy to jump on the negative side of all things Ireland.

What is it? Jealousy? You could do better? You don't like his personality? He asked Dez a non-policitically correct question?

Or, could it be you are just a bunch of sissies?

WHRBs,

Not quite sure what happened to you man but you've become impossible to talk to. In your mind the last five years all Ireland's fault and it's become impossible to even have a conversation with you. So rather than doing this dance every day, I'll stop talking to you. That OK, with you?

Now we have the luxury to pick a WR high. I posted earlier I think the first pick needs to be bpa of WR, TE, CB. Maybe the first two picks,
