Tannehill has regressed in November

September was a tough month for Ryan Tannehill and that didn't really surprise anyone because the Dolphins quarterback is a rookie and rarely does a rookie get welcomed into the NFL with a red carpet and a party.

Tannehill was 80 of 143 (55.9 completion percentage) for 1,046 yards in September. He threw two touchdown passes and six interceptions. His quarterback rating was 66.4.

Fine. We expected growing pains.

October was much, much, much better. Suddenly, Tannehill seemed to improve his accuracy. He was playing like a veteran at times. One could see steady improvement. And the stats showed the change.

Tannehill completed 40 of 60 passes (66.7 completion rate) for 426 yards in October. He threw two touchdowns and no interceptions. His rating zoomed to 98.3. I should remind you the relatively modest statistics were a product of the Dolphins having a bye and also Tannehill missed most of the Jets game with a knee injury.

It was nonetheless a good month.

But since that knee injury and since the calendar advanced to November, the Dolphins quarterback has suffered a nose dive.

Tannehill this month has completed 59 of 105 passes (56.2 completion percentage) for 648 yards. He has thrown two touchdowns this month and five interception. And his rating is a season-low 61.1.

This has nothing to do with the amount of duress Tannehill is under. He was sacked seven times in September, and six times each in October and so far in November. This isn't about the success of the running game as the Dolphins actually rushed the ball better in September than October and November.

This obviously has nothing to do with comfort level with talent around him because Tannehill hooked up plenty with Brian Hartline early on even though the receiver didn't play in the preseason. Tannehill also found Anthony Fasano plenty early on but the combination of quarterback-tight end has gone practically silent in recent weeks.

And no, this isn't about strenth of schedule, either. The last couple of weeks, for example, the Dolphins played teams with losing records whose defenses were ranked dead last in points allowed -- until they got through the game against Miami, anyway.

So what is it?

Has Tannehill hit the rookie wall early?

Is that knee injury still bothering him or affecting his delivery although last week Tannehill said he felt completely healthy?

Have defenses figured him and the Miami offense out?

Or, worse, is he simply regressing?

This week the Dolphins play Seattle to finish out their November schedule so the finish to this month doesn't seem promising. The Seahawks boast the NFL's fourth-best defense in allowing only 16.2 points per game.

Yup, November has been a nightmare for Ryan Tannehill.

How on Earth can a young Guy like Tannehill regress in his abilities, either physical or mental? The whole Team is just in a funk.

We believe there is a Mal de Fondo in the Team(conflict between Players and Coaches).

Defenses had totally figured out the Phins cannot go deep and lack the running game to male play action passing effective

We suck.

You just can't treat these modern Day Players like dirt the same as they were treated only a decade ago. Some of the Players now are much more Educated than their Coaches were. Handle with care. Or be prepared to be fired.

NFL Coaches should be highly Educated, also.

Don't you see that Internet has increased Education among its users in a logarithmic Fashion?

His accuracy is definitley suffering. He missed some pretty simple passes the last 2 weeks. He also doesn't seem to be seeing the field as well as he had been. On his final Int in the Bills game he had a wide open Reggie Bush standing along the sidelines for what would have been a 10-15 yard gain. There was still over a minute to go at that stage so there was no need to force the throw to Bess.

I haven't been excited about the play calling either. A lot of predictable formations & few misdirections, bunch formations or crossing routes. Everything straight ahead. Waaayyyy too many 3 & outs.

Defenses have figured out the Miami offense. Plain and simple. Play tight man and stack the box. RT can't do it all by himself. Our O-line has regressed significantly and our WRs can't get separation. We are pointed in the right direction, now we need to give the kid some weapons to work with. Go Fins!

Quarterback Ryan Tannehill meets the rookie wall. I've seen this theme repeated over and over by NFL pundits since the Buffalo game as the reason the Dolphins are stalling recently. Coach Joe Philbin says it's a team-wide breakdown. Certainly Philbin has the better answer considering that there is a genuine breakdown in the Dolphins game, starting with the fundamentals of blocking and tackling. Can't blame Tannehill for that.

But offensive, defensive and team-wide breakdowns can be blamed on coaches. And maybe our rookie head coach and coordinators have collectively hit their rookie wall.

The first 6 games this year gave everybody hope that the Dolphins would not meet their projected fate: that of one of the worst -if not the worst -teams in the NFL. Then the pummeling of the hated Jets lifted many to playoff aspirations.

However, the dolphins had been in decline before the Jets win. They were statistically crushed by the Bengals and Rams in their 2 wins before the Jets game, finessing wins when those two teams committed more errors than the Dolphins. But they were losing the one-on-one battles that good teams win.

ross needs to fire ireland and hire a competent GM. the rest will take care of itself. 4 years of ireland and the cupboards are bare!

Tannehill does not get the blame here, he is a rookie and his success in October did give us hope. Dropped interceptions, missed tackles, poor blocking, lack of depth and talent at skill positons, I can go on but fans who watch each game know this. We will get better as tghese issues are addressed through the draft, ect.. I do have one question why is Bush in the doghouse he needsto be involved more split out as a wr and in the screen game.

he is not regressing, he never was good, the fact that he was drafted as # 1 pick doesnt make him a good QB like most stupid fans think, he would have a make a decent backup on the NFL, start Moore to win out and see if we can fix this mess!

The WHOLE TEAM has regressed since they lost their third game by 3 points to the Colts and thoughts they had of playing in postseason. They havent been competetive in the last two games at all.One touchdown wont even win one game.

If they continue to play like this with all the free agents they have this off-season I would get more young players in the draft and discard big salaries that are not producing what they are paid.

T-Hill regresses! ( Dashi senses a Hater!)

Yet, let's make excuses for Dansby!!!!

Again, 4 Articles in Rotation!!! Talk bad about the qb!! Talk bad about the coach! Talk bad about the whole offense! Talk bad about the whole defense!!

NEVER TALK BAD ABOUT THE LINEBACKERS!!!!

ALoco,

Henmne's play yesterday only confirms why he's no longer a Dolphin. Didnt "dicktease" dolfans in the same manner his entire carrer in aqua and orange?

Didnt he have some big games in Miami only to find a way to come up just short?

We heard nothing of him until yesterday. If history proves correct. There will probably be a month of Sundays before we hear of again. That will be all of the proof we need that Chad Henne is still Chad Henne.

Same 'ole damn Chad Henne.

YG...... BEFORE I GO......

THE EX PIZZA MAN COACH PUT THE BREAKS ON HENNE LIKE OTHER GOOD PLAYERS.BY MICROMANAGEMENT .....

YOU SHOULD KNOW THAT BY NOW........

AFTER 3 YEARS W/FINS ,WE SHOULD KEPT HENNE WITH HIS NUMBERS WHICH WERE SAFE ENOUGH TO IMPROVE..............

NOW ,YOU CAN GO BACK TO TALK DRAFT AGAIN ABOUT THE FUTURE BUSTS OF OUR GARAGE MANAGER......

Dolphins fans are so impatient. Let's agree to give Jeff Ireland's philosophy of unearthing a roster of acorns a few more years. If the Dolphins are still terrible, say, in 2018, then we should have a discussion about replacing him.

The Tannehill conondrum is no one really expected him to start day one anyway. That was the primary reason I was so adamant against Ireland making him 8th overall pick. I believe he needed at least a year on the bench in the least. But because of the awful Matt Moore preseason performance he became day 1 starter by default.

Im not sure Tannehill ever becomes a perrenial top 5 elite. But, if Ireland or whomever the next gm is, surrounds him with great talent offensively and fixes the problems defensively. Tannehill could easily become a perrenial top 10 nfl qb and lead us into the playoffs for years to come.

IRELAND'S ARMY.......

MEANWHILE ,LET'S TALK DRAFT BUSTS AND SIGN FA WASHED PLAYER LIKE JABAR GAFFNEY. .

YG......... YOU TALKING ELITE................ ??????????????????????????????????????????

SAVE YOUR BREATH .

HENNEHILL?

ALoco,

If you think Chad He4nne would have been anymore than Chad Henne no matter what team or coaching staff had otten thier hands on him. Then you have delivered far more pizzas than the "pizza coach" you razz on.

ALoco, obviously you were absentee during Henne's 4yrs at Michigan. He played the exact same way at Miami as he played at Michigan. The dicktease performance Henne had yesterday is well within his norm.

YG....BEFORE I GO TO WORK...

WHAT MAKE YOU THE AUTHORITY ON HENNE AS A PLAYER ?

YOU PROVED WRONG ON ;;;

TANNEHILL
OUR GARAGE MANAGER BY SUPPORTING BOTH.......

THE CELLAR AS LONG AS WE DONKEYS FOR FANS .........

11-5..........??????????????????????????

AS LONF AS WE HAVE

I dont think Tannehill has hit a rookie wall. I believe the problem more could be he's trying to play outside of himself. I believe he's pressing to hard and not letting the game come to him.

During October, Tannehill probably played more within his present ability. He may now be trying to play at a quatum leap his present abilities just arent ready for yet. When this occurs, no matter the profession, we all press to hard and instead of getting better. We seem to just do worse.

Tannehill just needs to get back to basics, relax, and let time take time. As human beings this can become one of the most difficult things we ever have to do. Let alone your name being Ryan Tannehill.

OMG Luck threw 3 INTs 2 pick sixs and his QBR was 47.2.... Its time for him to sit and put in the back up.. Fire the GM and the HC!!!!!! Barf for Barkley is here!!!!!

ALoco,

Just go to hell, isnt that where you really work anyway? What makes you an authority on anything but operating your place of employ's dish machine?

You question everyone and anything, yet you always come here and post mangled garble on a daily basis. Yes, you can mentally challenged entertaining at times, but your mangled garble here has zero credibility.

Please further your education.

A loco,

U can think about the money!! But wanting to be the best at what u do comes natural!! At any Job!!

Dansby talk about being the best LB!! But his actions don't prove it!! He doesn't train like the best!! Or watch film like the best!!

Great MLB's!! Talk about being the best Defense!! They take ownership!! In the Whole Defense being Good!! Not just themselves!!!

Dansby can't even motivate himself!!!! How is he going to motivate the other 10 Guys on the field with him!!!

U knew Zach was ready all the time!! Ray is always ready!! Dansby not so sure he even loves the game!!!! Never less That he is prepared!!!

Ur MLB is the Brains!!! Of the Defense!! Right Now We are Stuck on Dumb and Lazy!! Dansby is suppose to set the tone for the whole defense!!!

And right now the tune is some off beat composition!! Directed by Dansby!

Henne performance yesterday reminds me of the old saying "Even a blind squirrel finds and acorn now and then."

Yeah Henne had a huge game. Good for him. He also couldn't get the job done in the clutch and his team lost. Now that brings back memories.

As for the article. The entire offense isn't producing. You can't lay it all on Tannehill, but you can't give him a complete pass either. Though since he is a rookie with under 30 starts it isn't shocking.

Hopefully with extra time to prepare and Seattle coming to the east coast the Dolphins can pull out a suprise victory.

IF you guys really want to talk about Henne then you have to look at how he was coached. I was a fan of him, his QB coach and OC ran him into the ground making him read through his progressions like a robot. He wasnt like that at Michigan. Sparano and co messed the kid up. With the being said, at some point time, like when you grow up, you have to say ok this isnt my style and it isnt helping me become a better QB. You have to decide for yourself as to what direction youre going to take.

ghostshadow69,

Henne's performance yesterday didnt prove even a blind squirrels finds an acorn now and then. It proves even a blind squirrel can be on the right path to an acorn, but bites a rock in the end.

Henne lost yesterday, remember? That means he didnt find the acorn, he bit the rock.

Hopefully with Tannehill this week they take the cuffs of him and just let him play. Sometimes you can be coached too much or think too much. He is a natural athlete and sometimes that has to take over..

Im not taking up for Henne but winning is a team effort, especially in the NFL... You cant blame the L on him if he didnt throw a pick and had 4 TD's
_______________________________________________________
On a seperate note the Fins play the seahawks this week..

mattyb,

Obviously you werent a Michigan fan. Any Michigan fan can tell you all about his "I love playing down to the level of competition" performances there.

For anyone to prop Henne up by blaming his offensive coaching here. Are clueless about his Michigan underperforming activities there. Henne's always been a disatser waiting to happen.

He was that way at Michigan, in Miami, and will be the same way in Jax. I guarantee Jax will draft another 1st rd qb before handing over the future reigns to Chad Henne.

Joe Philbin has said, "we have to put players in a position to be successful."

Is trotting Dan Carpenter out for a 50 yard field goal putting him in a position to be successful? Not with a 1-in-3 success rate for Carpenter at that distance.

Is running Reggie Bush between the tackles putting him in a position to be successful? Even Sporano finally realized that wouldn't work.

We've seen these movies. We know how they end. These coaches, all known for their innovative abilities, need to get more creative. They just can't stand back and say the players are not executing. That will get the team nowhere.

It's the receivers... No speed or explosiveness and defenses have learned not to give him an easy out by blitzing him heavily. I think after he proved able to handle it they've blitzed him less and know that our line isn't good and there aren't any real threats to contend with on the outside. So now you've got Tanny sitting back there trying to go through his progression looking for the open man amongst skill people that can't win they're battles and an o line that can't hold up long as well even with just four rushers. The blue print is in and it won't change much until he gets threats that can actually hurt a defense.

With the Seahawks big, aggressive corners,I am expecting another dud of a performance on Sunday.

The key thing that Armando has left out in his diagnosis of Tannehill's slide is the complete lack of a running game. No coincidence that his game has gone south since the OL has stopped opening holes and the RBs haven't been able to run. Fix one and the others will take of themselves. He looked like a totally different QB when we were running for 150 yards a game. Without that he looks completely ordinary.

Mattyb,

And no one blamed the loss on Henne. Just alluding he's had the same type of performances in Miami and just came up short right at the end. He just rarely ever seems to bne able to make that one play at the end that leads his team to victory.

The great qb's have it in them. The not so greats dont.

Idk, was always my opinion if Henne had better coaching he may have been better. He has the skills/abilities, he made a lot of mental mistakes and was terrible in the redzone.

I think if he had the luck to end up in SF, seeing what Harbaugh did with Alex Smith, Henne might have become a good consistent QB.

Free agency has created more dead money for teams and more money for agents. It also has done one of the things that was wanted by the NFL created parity. Now in December you have a lot more teams that have a shot at the playoffs too bad the recession hit to throw a fly in the ointment.

Am i a die hard Michigan fan? NOPE, but i did follow them as they are a great program. I did by the way watch The Applachain State University Mountaineers from the state of NC beat them at the big house lol
If you can tell me he wasnt different from Michigan to the pros as to how robotic he was then you sir are clueless and should not longer be allowed to post. Did he play down to the teams he was playing against..he did.. thats not the point of my topic.. So please read what I am saying before you post that I am clueless. My topic had to do with how he was coached and how he went from being loose in Michigan to being a robot in Miami.. Regardless if he played down to teams or not has nothing to do with being a robot on the field.. try again

billcale,

Uh take a look at the Pats offensive roster, then take a look at ours. Uh... did you notice a difference? No coaching staff, no mater how small or great, can consistently make up for lack of true overall talent.

You cant consistently place players in "a position to win" if you dont have "all of the pieces". Its just like chess, "all of the pieces" are inter-dependant on the others. Last I checked, offensively, "we're still quite a few pieces short". Capiche?

Common Sense,

Henne, better coaching would be better? How funny. Henne's a big strong kid with a big strong arm. Mentally, his brain just doesnt consistently process information well. Even great coaching cant make up for mental "GENETIC DIFFICIENCIES".

Im not saying Henne's dumb, he graducated college. Im saing his brain just doesnt consistently process information at the warp speed needed to be a very successful nfl qb.

graduated

I KNEW I'd come in here today and read posts about Henne. Hopefully, this will force some of you losers to become Jax fans. Not sure what the use is of bemoaning the past. If that's the case, why not talk about how we passed on Drew Brees in '06? Why not harp on how we let Mike Tomlin slip through our fingers? It's idiotic, and does NOTHING for the present OR the future. Our GM is Jeff Ireland. Our HC is Joe Philbin. Our QB is Ryan Tannehill. Our OC is Mike Sherman. Our DC is Kevin Croyle. None of that is changing for the foreseeable future. Try working with reality and see what you can do with that.

High FIve!

Fins Vs. Seahawks anyone?

Geeze, I knew this would become a Henne blog today after one good game that still came up shortfor Henne.

Didnt he do this same sheet in Miami? Boy do some of you guys have very shoert memories. Performances like yesterday are one the primary reasons he's no longer a dolphin. ROTFLMAO.
