THE key to the game on Sunday 'no question'

In this matchup between the Patriots and Dolphins there are two numbers that stand out that speak to the relative position -- the strengths and weaknesses, if you will -- each team is enjoying and suffering.

Turnover margin.

The Patriots are an astonishing plus-24 so far this season. That's the best in the NFL.

The Dolphins are at minus-10, which means they have turned the ball over 10 more times than they've collected turnovers. That ranks Miami tied for 27th in the NFL.

"I wish we were better, no question about it," coach Joe Philbin said.

Philbin definitely wishes the statistic is better on Sunday when the teams meets. If the Patriots play as they have and don't make mistakes while the Dolphins play to their turnover stat and give up one or two, that's a bad day for Miami. It makes the likelihood of winning much less probable.

"We’re playing a team that’s plus 24 and we’re minus 10," Philbin said. "That pattern is not good; that can’t continue on Sunday and be a good thing for us. So we have to do a great job of ball security and find a way to take the ball away from them. That’s going to be a key to the ball game, no question about it."

The Dolphins number is not good but it is much more attention-grabbing when compared to New England's plus-24. The next closest teams to the Pats are Chicago and the Giants and they are at plus-13.

Tom Brady, for example, has thrown 421 passes and has only three interceptions.

"It’s something we talk about a lot," Brady said. "There’s nothing more important than possession of the football. Our defense has done an incredible job taking it away. The offense has done a great job of keeping the ball away from the defense. It’s a point of emphasis every day in practice. It’s a point of emphasis going into every game, like most teams.

"It’s probably the one stat that correlates to winning and losing more than any other. It’s good that we’re in the plus-20s, but what we’re trying to do is get the edge in this game. Nothing that we’ve done this year means anything going into this game. We have to go out and try to put together a good performance this game. Hopefully we’re ahead in the turnover margin in this game as well."

Brady's care for the ball on Sunday must be matched by Tannehill who so far has have four times as many interceptions (12) in nearly 100 fewer throws.

“That’s impressive," Tannehill said of Brady's interception number. "When you’re able to take care of the ball like that, throw accurately and throw for that kind of yards and the amount of touchdowns he has, to go along with that, it’s impressive. I think he’s continued to get better and progress throughout his career and hopefully I can learn from that."

Why do the Patriots have such a good turnover margin? More importantly, why don't the Dolphins?

I blame part of it on the Miami defense. They don't catch interceptions. I can think of five interceptions they've dropped this year. That would cut their number in half. And Miami's running backs have lost five fumbles compared to only one by the Patriots.

"I believe they are the best in the football at protecting the ball offensively, so that’s a real credit to the players and staff," Philbin said. "Number two is they’re second in football, one behind Chicago I believe, at taking the football away. They catch the interceptions; they knock the ball loose on fumbles and come up with the ball. They do a great job. It’s impressive."

Better not be on Sunday if the Dolphins hope to win.

That assumes that all Dolphin fans attend the game.
If half of the Phins fans sell thier tix then it could be like 45,000 pats fans to 25,000 fin fans.

Cmon Armando you know darn well THE KEY TO WIN THE GAME IS

Great blog of dullards.

25,000 empty seats is still considered sold out under the new rules. There's tons of tickets left for sale and there will be plenty of empty seats at game time.

You can call up the Dolphin ticket office and get seats in any section you want. Theres also discounted tickets for sale on Craigs list.

The game's only close Sunday if Jeff Ireland calls Roger Goodell and forfeits the game. Then the final score would be Pats 0 Fins 0. Pats win!

"I'm so tired of hearing how great the patriots organization is. Bill belicheat is under .500 without tom brady. If they didn't have brady mr. Belicheat probably would've been fired years ago just like in cleveland."

No organization is as good without their franchise QB.
How are the Steelers doing without Ben? How were the Colts last year?

Marino kept Shula looking good for years, even when Shula was standing by idiots like Tom Olivadotti. Please.

pats have been beaten twice by teams that are record wise as bad as we are. No gronk for brady and they struggle with out him, yeah i said it, and its true. with clay emerging he might just go 10 for 200 sun. tannehill plays well we have a shot at beating the pats.

Secretary: Boss, Mr Goodell's on the line 1 for you.

Ireland: Who?

Secretary: The commish, Roger Goodell

Ireland: Ok, I'll take it. (Ireland grumbles &@#^!)

Roger Goodell: Hey dipsh*t, I have some great news for you.

Ireland: WTF now dick screw?

Roger Goodell: Got Bill Bellichik on 3way hold. He agrees to let you forfeit Sunday's game.

Ireland: Hell yes I'll forfeit the game. It will be the best move Ive made since taking over in Miami.

Roger Goodell: Good man Jeffy. Sunday's game would have single handedly destroyed the myth that we now have parity in the league. After all, this is the nfl, not the nba. In your case mlb, because I doubt your offense even scores 3pts.

Didnt the Pats score 50pts on us twice last season? Enuff said.

Roger Goodell should initiate an emergency mercy rule for the Pats/Dolphins game. That way if we trail by 50pts at any point of the game. The game automatically ends.

Pats 50 Dolphins 0. Game's called midway thru the 2nd qtr. Thank you mercy rule.

Manti T'eo reminds me of a very young Nick Bouniconti. If Jeff Ireland wants to upgrade the image of the franchise and begin to bring fans back into the home stadium. Then Manti T'eo should be his 1st pick April of 2013.

I can see a tough day for NE. Our team will be far more motivated. We need some kind of early break and from there it will be anyone's game.

Cant see the Pats too motivated for this game. Doubt we'll see a huge effort from them. Fins 24 Pats 17.

I love my dolphins since 1971. But with this secondary and a rookie QB against Tom and Belichick, I don't think so, Pats 40 PHINS 20

TOM BRADY............56
DOLPHINS............... 3

Aloco, are you still in love with odinstink?

shouldn't you be in bible study? did you know the bible is against masturbation?

how do you think a bald eagle would look like with a wig?

Also is against fornication, so dude you need to breakup with your boy friend!
But God will forgive you if you do! I rebuke you Satan!! The power of God impels you
Come out Satan NOWWWW! The power if God impel. Jesuschirst is the lord

get a life dude. seriously. let loose, bang some beaver. forget the stupid book. there were tens of thousands of years of civilization before that nonsense religion and people lived just fine. it ain't 2012 dufus, its like 199,182

2) Montana

I think it's past time we do a Bert Jones on Tom Brady, anyone old enough to remember what happened to him will know what I'm talking about. This guy's run will come to an end on Sunday!

I would like to see good runs by Us on Sunday.

You're talking about QBs that had great Teams around them, ALoco. IMO, John Elways was the best QB I've ever seen on overall physical, emotional and mental ability. Until this year. Now we have to be taking into account these kids that just came into the League, RG3, Luck, etc.

Hard to fool Vince Wilfork. If we're going to run, probably it will be somewher else than the middle.

The talent is pretty evenly distributed around the League these Days. No reason why a Team cannot beat another Team on any given day outside of the Coaching.

How do you stop the NE blizkrieg? Look up NY Giants.

Blitzkrieg. (I have to get rid of this Laptop(too many crackers have gone into it)).

eh, hem

Then compare him to Tim Tebow - LOL.

Tannehill sure isn't Tom Brady, but compared to Tim Tebow, Tannehill is a Hall Of Famer.

Man Tebow sucks dong. He claims to be a Christian and then robs the Jets like he does.

Out of all the QB's in the NFL, Tebow is the one guy that should be paying his TEAM to........(I would say play, but we all know better than that-lol).........Tebow should be PAYING the jets for letting him have such a good seat.

Do you know how much season tickets cost?

Say what you want about Ireland, at least he wasn't retarded enough to even consider Tebow-lol.

If Home says the Pats are going to WIN, bet HEAVY on the Phins. This idiot gets every prediction he makes, WRONG-lol. Except of course(the ones he makes AFTER the FACT-ROTFLMAO). Don't tell him I said it, he thinks we all forgot all his GREAT predictions.

The funniest part, this Paint Can Sniffer thinks he's made some startling revelation in regards to the Patriots. He thinks he has a NEWSFLASH, he scooped everyone by telleing all of us that Brady is great and so is Bellicheat.

(OK, actually, if you subtract the years they were busted for CHEATING, they were/are very good. Great teams and Great Coaches don't stoop to cheating. But don't try and explain that to a guy that thinks Tim Tebow is GREAT - LOL.)

What a living, breathing BUFFOON. Tebow? ROTFLMAO.

ThanX for the kind words Mark
Fact is Home knows the local team better than anyone on any blog
and was right about EVERY SINGLE DRAFT PICK this year made by Jeff Ireland as well as Tannehill only bringing this team a losing record of 6-10
6- Do It Again
The truth hurts
If u enjoy great NFL football
follow the New England Patriots w pride
enjoy the follies and laughs of Jeff Ireland's Miami Dolphins

Troll post of 12:03,
10:22 post of Home the blogger states his thoughts on Ireland and all his preseason assessments of current Miami draft picks of 2012.
Apparently you have an agenda against a blogger here with good insight on this team and their players.
Your post is foolish and cowardly.

Sheesh Ian.

By the way, do you think Home is the Monkey Troll?

(I bet Ian knows the truth wink, wink)

A Power Ranking for Posters here?

ROTFLMAO, Home would rank right down at the bottom. It would be a toss up between him and ALoco.

Home has sniffed one too many chem trails in his day.

Home would be the Tim Tebow of posters on this blog. In other words, when it comes to knowledgeable posters, Home is riding the pine-lol.

The funniest part, he doesn't think we remember how he whiffed on all his predictions and then started making them AFTER THE FACT. LMAO.

This delusional idiot(Home/milk and cookies/Honeycomb)isn't even trolling the fans here.

He actually thinks he's getting payback with Ireland and the Dolphins organizations with these posts(For crying out loud)-lol.

Check the CONTEXT of his posts and then consider that Home is still LIVID over Ireland being too smart to bring in Tebow.

All this because Home thinks Tebow is the 2nd best QB in the NFL-lol. You get em Home-lol. You run Ireland into the ground. I think you're really embarrassing him(OMG-LOL). He's about to crack, he's been reading your posts and is about to resign anyday now(I'm laughing so hard I can't breath).

The Patriot wide receivers are professional and well chosen to compliment Tom Brady and the dbs on Miami are bottom of the barrel.
No competition and an easy win for the Patriots.

Posted by: Honeycomb | November 29, 2012 at 03:57 PM

(BTW Home, I heard Tebow has received a very lucrative contract offer from Walmart. NO not for an endorsement you dummy, they have a shortage of greeters up there in the north east-ROTFLMAO).

That shows you just how big a fool, Oscar is a fool, really is! Dumber than the Canada twins!

Posted by: LOL | November 29, 2012 at 04:07 PM

LOL still believes he has people fooled on this blog. What a twit, Duh, we can't see that he's constantly attcking those that have exposed him/the Blog Hit Troll.

Now for a REAL-LOL, he thinks the posters here are all dumber than he is. Thats why he still thinks that everybody can't see right through his tired and borish routine-LOL.

He almost beat ALoco in a battle of wits once and Ever since, he's thought himself an Einstein.

Common Sense you dont have too much of that do you? Egnew sucks dude cant suit up for one game his rookie season Im expected to believe he will flourish after this season??? Ok name one player who didnt suit up his entire first season and after that became a decent player??? I'll wait....

Posted by: Clue | November 29, 2012 at 04:54 PM

I could give you a ZILLION. But just to make you look as STUPID as you Trolls really are.

Jared Odrick - Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh.

LMAO @ Clues little peanut.

Espresso and the Miami Herald sports section also a great way to wake up.

You are right Milk, caffeine is a great way to wake up I drink my coffee so strong it is often compared to espresso.Vontae's Granny was right too about the real key to Sundays game.Pressure.You absolutely must put pressure on Brady and get his uniform dirty. If you allow him the time to stand in the pocket and let his receivers run their routes you are dead meat.Sack him a few times stay in face, chase him out of the pocket and make him take chances. The Patriots do not have a great defense. The positive turnover ratio is largely due to teams having to pass to keep up with the Pats scoring machine.

"No organization is as good without their franchise QB.How are the Steelers doing without Ben? How were the Colts last year?Marino kept Shula looking good for years, even when Shula was standing by idiots like Tom Olivadotti. Please."
How did Miami do without their franchise QB back in 1972?.....Shula fielded a Super Bowl team with David effin Woodley for a QB.Dont tell me about ANYBODY making Shula look good.

Fins Win says:

Craig M...you are a MORON. But thanks for stopping by. Dont let the door hit you on the way out. And dont go away mad just go away.
I'm not sure MORON does justice to the delusional opinions of Craig M.

1966finfan @ 7:19 am,

We continued to win w/o Griese in 1972 simply because we had the nfl's #1 ranked defense, broke the single season rushing mark that had stood for 30 years prior, and we had probably the best backup qb of all in Earl Morral. You forget Morrall backed up the legendary Johnny Unitas.

Then again, with David Woodley, we had Woodstrock(Strock could also be rated as one of the top 5 backup qb's of alltime), a #1 rated defense, and a strike shortened season to operate out of.

Coincendentally, Shula appeared in and won as many sb's with David Woodley as he did with the legendary Dan Marino. Can you please explain that one for us too?

Whatever. But the only undefeated Team in the History of the NFL has been Us.

Being the only undefeated-untied sb championship team in nfl history was only fine in 1972. However, in today's fast paced high tech society, it all about what have they done for us lately?

I still have photos of myself in the spring of my youth too. But it doesnt mean Im still 16yrs old. Looking back at those fine things of the past, does absolutely nothing to change the present.

The 72 Dolphins earned and recieved thier reward for outstanding accomplishment in 1972. No one's crowning them champs in 2013 for those already rewarded accomplishments 40yrs ago.

What I'm interested to see this December is how Philbin prepares his team to compete. The best teams play their best football at the end of the year. Sparano had a mixed bag, great '08, ok last year (though he was gone for much of that) but HORRIBLE in '09-'10. Hopefully Philbin has a better record in December. Though this year will be tough. Pats twice and @ 49ers, very losable games. Then again, we need to win the very winnable ones (Jags/Bills). If we won those, and won 1 of those 3 tough games, I'll consider this a very positive Season!

Tyrann "Honey Badger" Matthieu is declaring for the 2013 nfl draft. Because of his checkered drug past, Mel Kiper projects him a 4th rd pick.

IMO, somebody will roll the dice and select him far earlier than that. The "honey badger" would probably be a nfl draft day top 5 pick had he not had the drig related problems which forced him to be kicked off of LSU's football team.

As badly as we need cb help, and having two 2nd rd picks, If I were Jeff Ireland I would roll the dice and take him with one of those picks if he's still there. The guy's an impact player regardless of his past.

IMHO, this roster is what it is. A few good players, but, mostly "inconsistent players". You cant squeeze water from rocks. Even if you do, it will not happen anything close to consistently.

All that I expect from Philbin is to get as much from this ebb and flow roster as he can. Then have Jeff Ireland step up like he never has before in adding real impact talent to this roster in the offseason.

Ireland usually adds depth players he thinks are starters. Then the players he thinks he's adding for depth soon become former Dolphins. That also includes some of his top picks that have come thru Miami.

YG, I agree COMPLETELY! Thought the same thing when I heard he was coming out. Yeah, he could be a problem, but the kid has SKILLS. Ireland is real good at making contracts conditional, so he could do that with this guy so if he messes up, we don't owe him a thing. This is the type of talent we need on the team.

I believe Manti T'eo and Tyrann Matthieu could instantly make us a playoff calibre defense. Also, either adding a pass rusher or having Vernon step up big time next year, would take this defense to championship calibre.

That's my humble take on things.

WhoTH is that honey badger?

Especially with the new rookie cba, taking Matthieu 2nd rd, if available, would be little risk at all. Not only is he a dynamic corner, he's dynamic in the return game too.

He would instantly become our #1 corner and Smith would be where he's most natural. At #2 corner.

I only watch the College Championship Bowl Game and I would love to see Alabama vs ND(my $ would be on Alabama).

Plus, the honey badger is easily top 5 instant impact talent. If you could get him with a 2nd rd pick, regardless of his past, it's a gyro-dynamic steal!

Nah, we don't need corners, we need safeties most.

My First 3 Picks, If In Position To Do So, Would be:

1. Manti T'eo
2a Tyrann "Honey Badger" Matthieu
2b A Wide Reciever

Why they call him "honey badger"?

We dont need "safeties", we need a "safety". Singular, not plural. Reshad Jones is borderline pro bowl. Chris Clemmons is just "south of the borderline.

True, YG.
