A couple of things went right against New England

I admit it. Sometimes after a loss it's hard for me to focus on what went right. I'm a results oriented person. The NFL is a results oriented league. If the Miami Dolphins lose, I want to know why and I want to expose those reasons.

But sometimes guys play well even in a loss.

So allow me a couple of moments to pick out a guy on offense and a guy on defense to write about here because both played well against the Patriots.

Defensively, Reshad Jones was outstanding.

He had the interception and the return for a touchdown that was nullified by a penalty. He also had 10 tackles, including a sack, had a quarterback hurry, and a pass defensed. And it was not necessarily a surprise.

Jones has been coming on strong for a few weeks now. Sunday marked the second time in three games he's had double-figure tackles. The guy is playing well and is fast emerging as a fine safety.

"I think I’ve mentioned this throughout the season, I’m seeing a young player that’s becoming one of the better players at his position in the league right now," defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle said. "I think he is making plays in the pass game. The interception he made was exceptional. The run back was terrific. He had the sack. He had, I think, 10 or 11 tackles in the game, but he’s consistently starting to put one game after another together and he’s got a very high ceiling.

"I think he’s going to be a very, very good player for us."

Yeah, Jones was solid when Tony Sparano put him in the starting lineup last year. He's maturing. And Sunday was part of that process, perhaps the best part so far.

I also want to highlight the game Brian Hartline had.

To look  at his statistics, Hartline was merely good. He had five catches for 84 yards (16.8 yard per catch average). But if you watched the game you understand Hartline was the best receiver on the field for either team.

He was open by five yards on a deep shot down the middle of the field in the first half. The pass did not connect because quarterback Ryan Tannehill overthrew the pass.

He was open, again by a couple of yards, on another deep pass in the second half. Hartline read the defense and turned what was supposed to be a hook route into a deep attempt to blow the top off the defense.

And the play was there. But the pass from Tannehill was underthrown this time and so, again, no completion.

One thing I know: The Dolphins had better be wary of the New England Patriots trying to poach Hartline in free agency. I know it is a possibility because I know Bill Belichick likes Hartline and, more importantly, respects Hartline.

Perhaps that's the reason the Patriots put their best cover corner, Aqib Talib, on Hartline the entire game. And throughout the game, Hartline was open anyway. I expect that will get Belichick's attention. That's right, the same guy that had his sights on Wes Welker might be going back to the well in the offseason if Miami isn't careful.

Anyway, Hartline's statistics don't suggest it. But he also had a very good day against New England.

"The only difference between Tebow and RGIII is RGIII's team has supported him and let him run an offense that takes advantage of his skill set."

RG3 is also faster & is a more accurate passer but they're both option QB's. RG3 is a great athlete but why is it that no one except Steve Youngs notices how effective Shanahan's scheme is & how well they run the ball??? If RG3 continues to operate in the offense he is running he will be on IR before the season is over.

WHDP,

Watch both these videos of Stedman Bailey, then tell me if you wouldnt trade in Bess for him:

2010-2011 Freshman/Sophmore:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aOnISzeG2Ao

2012 Junior: 21 TDS

http://www.smokingmusket.com/2012/11/27/3699830/dougity-dog-video-stedman-biletnikoff-bailey-2012-biletnikoff-finalist

After watching these videos, I would even consider taking him 1st rd, 2nd rd max. LOL..

Are you kidding me? RG3 is the most accurate passer, short or long, I've ever seen just throwing with his wrist. Besides, he's probably a 4.2 or 4.3 runner. Outtasite.

After watching the Stedman Bailey highlights, I dont really understand why scouts are projecting him an nfl slot wr.

YG,

U ARE SAYING HARTLINE WILL GET WALLACE MONEY!

$7- $9 Million Is What The TOP 5 WR'S MAKE! REMEMBER THE FRANCHISE TAG FOR A WR IS about $9 Million!

A Little Steep For A GUY WITH ONLY 1 TD!

HArtline is Worth about $4 Million a Year. TOPS! Jordy Nelson Money!

-------------------------------------------------------

Mark,

Reggie had 1086 yds and 6 TD's! NOT SPECTACULAR NUMBERS! AVERAGE IF U ASK ME!

U are talking about the LAST 4 Games of the Season! ON DABOLL'S FIRST YEAR COACHING THE OFFENSE! Maybe the O-Line finally Got In Sync! WASN'T JERRY STARTING AT RT THE LAST 4 GAMES? Just Saying.

What Did P.Hillis Do For The Browns the Year Before?

REGGIE DANCING!! IS ON REGGIE!! REGGIE WAS HAVING A MONSTER SEASON THIS YEAR TIL HE GOT HIT DURING THAT JETS GAME! Then We Got the Old Reggie! MR. DWTS!

AND IF REGGIE GAINS 300 More YARDS AND 1 MORE TD! IN 4 MORE GAMES!! HE TIES LAST SEASONS NUMBER! NOT THAT HARD TO DO!

YG,

Anyone who would trade an established & durable WR like Bess for an unproven college kid is an idiot.

Oscar,

Last season I was saying that even though RG3 was still in college, he could throw the deepball like the nfl elite qbs. Exactly why I was clamoring Ireland should have traded whatever it took to make him a Miami Dolphin in the 2012 draft.

But as usual, many here were crying against that, but now secretly cry to themselves YG was right. LOL...

I'm hearing that Cam Wake, Reggie Bush, and Incognito are all pissed about being benched. Philbin has lost the locker room and Im expecting it to start to show this Sunday. 49er's 37 Miami 10.

Best post ever

Outtasite, my man, outtasite.

For all those Matt Moore lovers:

Last year ....

Total Defense rank - 15 last year , this year, 20
Pass defense 25 last year, this year 27
rush defense 3 last year, this year 8
rush offense 11th last year, 17th this year

So you see the team regressed in almost every single area, Tannehill is doing this with a lot less support in ALL areas than Moore got last year.

Also keep in mind Moore averaged 192 yards per game with Marshall, this year Tannehill averages 213.

have I mentioned that Moore failed in every single opportunity against teams with winning records whereas Tannehill with a worse team has caps against two playoff caliber teams???

So go one with this delusion that somehow Moore would have us in a better position. However, there is nothing out there that would support that opinion.

U ARE SAYING HARTLINE WILL GET WALLACE MONEY!

$7- $9 Million Is What The TOP 5 WR'S MAKE! REMEMBER THE FRANCHISE TAG FOR A WR IS about $9 Million!

Dashi,

It's not about how much a player is WORTH it's about how much they can negotiate. I believe Hartline will get about $6 Million a year in FA. The Dolphins offered him an extension for $3.5 Million per year & Hartline was PISSED!!!

Exactly one thing distinguishes the career trajectories of Tim Tebow and RGIII: the latter has the support of his team and is allowed to run an offense that takes advantage of his skill set.

Exact same QB, including throwing ability.

We do not care about the Future(or the Past) and only the Present.

Vincent Jackson got paid over $10 Million a year & Wallace was asking the Steelers for a similar deal. Not sure if someone will pay that considering Wallace is not having a GREAT season. Greg Jennings will probably cost between $8-9 Million.

dolfinman, and Tannehill doesn't deserve any praise for hartline's season. I never heard anyone other than Omar Kelly say hartline may take a step further this year. Now all of a sudden Tannehill is holding hartline back? Then what did Henne and Moore do to him when he was getting 400 yards a season???? Castrating him????

The only difference between Tebow and RGIII is RGIII's team has supported him and let him run an offense that takes advantage of his skill set.

GOOD THING U SWITCH NAMES EVERY 30 MINUTES! THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST ASININE STATEMENTS EVER!!

AND U MAKE A LOT OF THEM!

Have U Seen RG3? EVER? Don't Ever Insult that Man Like That!

Tebow Ran a EASY OFFENSE IN COLLEGE! LOOK AT WHAT MYERS IS DOING AT OSU! THE OSU QB LOOKS BETTER THAN TEBOW! SAME OFFENSE!

TEBOW WAS BASICALLY K.DORSEY! FOR THAT SYSTEM!

DORSEY USE TO LOOK LIKE BRADY IN COLLEGE! WHAT HAPPENED IN THE NFL?

Talking Tebow is Like Talking! Matt Barkley!

ANYONE WHO THINKS BARKLEY IS NOT A PRODUCT OF THE SYSTEM!! DOESN'T UNDERSTAND THE GAME!!

WITH HOW MANY NFL PLAYERS DID TEBOW PLAYED WITH IN COLLEGE?

Again, Just Like Dorsey!

Mark: except the Jets game in which Moore played.

You have no credibility citing those stats. The entire point is the QB *affects* those other stats, such as rushing success. Due to fear of the pass. I thought you were one of the guys who pointed that kind of think out from time to time?

Good QBs make others around them better, the entire team, even the defense.

An example of a winning QB who rarely loses is Tim Tebow.

WHDP,

I never said trade Bess.

For one, you havent even watched the videos I posted. Two, I said draft the kid. If he indeed is a slot wr, which after watching him I think he has #1 wr potential, if he's a slot this guy would beat Bess out man.

If he doesnt then Bess is still the slot wr. But this kid looks special. 21 tds on the top collegiate level is special. That's "Randy Moss calibre" production, though he doesnt have the speed and height of Moss.

Watching him, he's has great body control and adjusts to the ball in the air almost effortlessly. His body control reminds me of Paul Warfield.

And Im not calling him Randy Moss or Paul Warfield. Just that his collegiate production and body control reminds me of these 2 great wr's.

That must be Home saying Tebow throws as well as RG3, put your dikk back in your pants and stop jerkking it. TEBOW SUCKS!!!

Yg is on that crack boy!

did you see that rocking stadium for RG3 monday night? wow, it's amazing what ONE player can do for it's fans, the city, and the owners pocketbook! now look at miami, there was a brief time this season that i actually thought philbin pulled it off, it looked like the attitude and culture of this befuddled ball club was turning around but low and behold, here we are again. everyone knows miami is in need of many pieces but this has got to stop, the players we have must play better, their attitudes must change, when they sign their contracts they agree to play to the best of their ability. this game is about attitude and mental toughness and i hope when the offseason rolls around philbin makes THIS quality a prerequizit for any player considering to play for this club. attitude and mental toughness...not QB's who roll out of the pocket from percieved pressure, not tightends who are afraid to lower their shoulder, if this was considered our playoff game(which many players believed) then i don't know what to think about this team, a playoff game requires the hardest hitting best effort a player can give and yet it looked like we were pacing ourselves, i don't get it..

Tannehill wasn't even supposed to be playing this year.....we're seeing some of the reasons why--but we're also seeing some good things, some flashes, some progress.

hehheh, People here trying to stir the pot(might it be Armando?). Washington could do it, YG. They had a lot of picks, I believe, as they were one of the worse Teams in the NFL. Neither were we that bad and consequently we didn't have a lot of picks.

Yeah, Matt Moore made Reggie Bush rush for 200 yards agains the Bills and also made Miami secondary better last year. Also made Miami rush defense better, and threw for fewer yards than Tannehill per game. My lord ...

YG,

BESS IS THE BEST WR ON THE TEAM!! THE BEST HANDS ON THE TEAM!

BESS WAS THE #2 In Reception When MARSHA WAS HERE!! NOT HARTLINE!

BESS IS THE FINS SHORT PASSING GAME!!

WHAT BESS NEEDS ARE OTHER WR's THAT CAN HELP OPEN THE SHORT STUFF FOR HIM!

TO ME BESS IS BETTER THAN WELKER! I BELIEVE BRADY WOULD PREFER BESS OVER HARTLINE!!

PLUS FOR A WR BESS IS A WARRIOR!

Dashi/WHDP,

$7-$9 million isnt upper echelon wr pay. Brandon Marshall signed a 5yr $50 million contract with us 3yrs ago. You have to believe the price has risen slightly higher by now.

I said $7-$9 million range. Offer Hartline only $6 million a year and its almost guaranteed he wont be a dolphin next year. Another team will swoop in and offer more.

You draft WR in the first and second rd it's that simple. No more free agents from other teams resign Harty and build through the draft.

If u really want a slot badly you go get Tavon Austin From wvu he's the best playmaker in the draft

What's with the fools continuing to insist that Miami "missed out on" Luck and Griffin?--hey dopes, they apparently didn't want to trade the 42 1st rd picks it would've taken to move up from the 8th slot--Colts weren't trading that pick regardless and Skins pick was higher and more valuable than ours--by that definition, everybody missed out on them, and plenty of teams could use them. Not getting the "missed out" part.

dashi,
you are comparing a reciever who LEADS the league in recieving frequently and if he is not the top guy this year will be in the top 5 EASILY to bess, kinda like comparing tannehill to aron rodgers. are you feeling o.k.?

WHDP,

Agreed. It's A Negotiation.

But Anything Over $6 Million is Outrageous For Hartline! I could See It Going Up To around $5-$6 Million.

But Then Again. (YG, HArtline is Not Even In the Same League as MArsha, BM had 3 Straight 100 Catch Seasons)

Manningham got 2yrs/$7.5

Garcon Got 5yr/ $42.5

D. Jackson 5yr/$48.5

V. Jackson 5yr/ $55.5

With them Numbers. HARTLINE DESERVES ABOUT 5yrs/ $30 Million. What U Said WHDP's!

dashi,

Does Bess even have 10 tds for his entire Dolphins wr career? Im sure he has, but you would hardly notice it.

I dont get dolfans sometimes. We get fixiated in nostalgia with players that hardly wont help us win championships. Name one team thats won a sb championship with a Bess type wr?

If there's even one, I guarrantee he was getting the ball into the endzone far with far more regularity. Have you guys forgotten scoring points wins games?

Bess is a great 3rd down wr at best. Had Bess been a 1st or 2nd rd drafted wr, dolfans would have been clamoring to replace him long ago. Bess is a walk-on, there isnt anything that damn special about him.

Craig,

Yes, I mis-read your post yesterday. Didn't know you were responding to people saying cut Long this year. That's ASININE!!! Also it's quite impossible, since we'd have to pay him regardless.

But I wanted to repost this, just because I found it hysterical (it's also asinine, and wrong, but I'm getting a kick out of the retards on this site):

Can someone explain to me how Henne has more TD passes then Tannehill and he's only played in 3 GAMES??

Posted by: Monte | December 04, 2012 at 11:54 AM

LOL! In time, Tannehill will be proven to be a better QB than Henne and everyone's boyfriend Matt Moore. By the way, if you think your savior at QB is Matt Moore, go shoot yourself because you're the most pathetic life form to exist in this Universe.

To tell you guys the truth, Im about over Davon Bess. The guy hardly ever gets YACS about as rarely as he scores tds. He's never put back to back great games together(see the last 2 games).

Plus, he has to be the most boring punt returner in the history of punt returning. If I saw opportunity to upgrade our wr corps over Bess alone, I would do it without a moment's hesitations.

Bess and hartline both might hit a 1000 yards , for the first time in both their careers, with mostly tanne at the helm and guys want to draft a qb already? What? When is the last time we had two thousand yard wrs in a season? The80's?This O is extremly limited and dude has to make perfect throws every throw. Behind a line whose pass protections breakdown more often than a delorian. Even if miami moved up and got rg3 would be just as successful? No he would be sitting next to pat white playing with blocks and learning to read again.

The more WRs and TEs we have, the better. IMO

Circle Jerk Club (DC and Craig): not one person has written that Long should be "cut." Not one. Keep circle jerking.

DC, I know you sometimes try to get reactions, but you are really going out on a limb to say, right now, that Tanne will be better than Henne. That is definitely not certain at this point. Same size and arm. Henne has thrown about 60 NFL TDs and was a 4-year starter at Michigan. Henne put up 450 against NE last year.

Tanne might be better one day. Probably 50/50 chance.

I am fashionable, erudite, composed, verbose, and cultured.

You are none of those things. Ignorant slobs.

budtki@verizon.net,

U Are Right. Dashi did Take it to the Extreme. Sometimes U have to In here.

But Bess is BETTER THAN HARTLINE.

And Welker Just Catches Alot of Passes. But He is Not Dynamic.

If Welker is #1 In 3rd Down Reception the Last Couple Years! Bess is #2!

But that Little OPTION ROUTE WELKER RUNS!! SUITS BESS SKILL SET BETTER!

AND TO MAKE THE COMPARISON MORE STRIKING!

BESS AND WELKER RETURN PUNTS!!

HARTLINE ONLY PLAYS WR!

I actually agree with Mark on two things:

1. We have regressed in every area this year.
2. Joe should be fired immediately. Bring in Chad Pennington to be the head ball coach.

BTW, just because Tanne played WR a few years does not mean he's very fast or mobile. If you watch the games, you see he's quite slow. Even for a big white guy, he's about middle-of-the-pack to below average speed.

The idiots calling for Tanne to play WR are pure idiots.

Time for an intervention methinks

Dashi, since ur skipping school again, why don't you look up the YAC stats?

Welker is leading the lead in YAC by a factor of 2. He has 460 yards after catch. No other receiver has more than 220.

No Team can have pro-Bowlers in everyone of their postions. It's a wonderful idea but just not realistic. We have 2 this year for sure, Soliai and Mike Pouncey. We should get 2 more of those.

I might be wrong, but I can't see Ireland paying for Jenning or Wallace. There are so many FAs to deal with. I think Ireland will look to the draft for WRs.

One thing separates the performance of Tim Tebow and RGIII: the support of his coach.

Truth Teller, that's what I'm predicting. You're right, it is going out on a limb. But I base it on what I've seen through one year. Tannehill has less college experience, less time on the bench (none) than Henne, yet is pretty much equaling Henne now (in wins). Needs 2 more and will equal Henne's best year. With more talent and experience, he will surpass him. Why? Because Tannehill has intangibles Henne did not. He's comfortable (not stiff). He's a leader others respect (Henne had to learn that role and never perfected it). He's more athletic than Henne. He's smarter than Henne. All these traits will prove helpful to Tannehill's progression. He might not be elite or a franchise QB, but I'm saying he'll be better than Henne.

YG,

Does HARTLINE HAVE 10 TDS? FOR HIS CAREER?

AND U WANT TO GIVE HIM $9 MILLION A YEAR!

That IS BESS JOB!!

TO MAKE A BUNCH OF CATCHES AND GO UNNOTICED! MOVE THE CHAINS!

HOW MANY 80+ CATCH SEASONS DOES HARTLINE HAVE?

HOW ABOUT 50+?

THIS IS THE FIRST TIME IN HARTLINE'S CAREER OVER 50+ CATCHES!

THAT IS NOT A LOT TO WORK WITH! SPECIALLY TO HAND OUT A $50 MILLION DOLLAR CONTRACT TO HARTLINE!

Wake IMO should be a perennial pro bowler

Solai, Dansby, Wake, Moore, and Pouncey are the only good players on the team. The rest are all expendable.

Nobody with an I.Q. above "tapioca pudding" (let alone any actual NFL type) would ever select Henne over Tannehill as the guy to build with and move forward.

But plenty of you guys are firmly encamped in that sub-tapioca category

Reshad Jones is a top 5 safety in the NFL and should be going to the pro bowl and maybe an ALL PRO.

I think it's pretty clear Joe should be fired. Not really much room for debate on that.

Forgot about him, B33. He's having a wonderful year, Cam Wake is, and will probably make the Pro-Bowl, again.

I would trade TanneBust in a heartbeat if we can before he becomes as worthless as Henne was.

Yes, could be that Reshad might also be selected for the Pro-Bowl.

DAsahi, You lose all credability when you state Bess in better than Hartline. In now way Davonne Turtle Bess is better than Hartline look at TDs, look at YAC, Hartline is better ya punk!

Lmao. Tebow? Timmy is outta the league. He is useless.

I dont know if that was meant to be funny but it was Pure genius

DC, be fair. Now you're giving one of Moore's wins to Tanne. Tanne has only 4 wins.
