Michael Egnew is in uniform and active for the first time this season. It's a party at Sun Life!
Dimitri Patterson, signed last week off waivers from Cleveland, is starting. I'm telling you, it's a party and you don't believe me.
The reason Patterson is starting is Nolan Carroll (knee) is inactive and the team is not going with Bryan McCann, who has played longer and been with the Dolphins longer. Interesting.
Jason Trusnik makes his second start in place of Koa Misi. Marlon Moore start at WR for the injured Davone Bess.
Here are the inactives:
Pat Devlin, Bess, Carroll, Misi, Patrick Brown, Kyle Miller, Keeston Randall.
We've got a live blog going in the comments section today. I'll join you around kickoff.

I thought the comments from coaches were generally favorable for McCann last week. What happened? Is Patterson THAT good?
Would be nice to see Egnew on the field as well as in his Dolphin dress uniform. Might be lots to talk about after this game!!

Having built up Egnew, here we find out why the coaches have been holding him back.

Egnew active? Maybe today is doomsday, and not last Friday. Still alive people, and its Week 16! GO FINS, and Merry Christmas to all Dolfans everywhere.

Seems like there is some hope for Egnew yet.

CraigM,
You think everyone that doesnt agree with you is against you. Thats not the case. I dont care if Ireland drafts a pass rusher 1st rd. I merely state in my opinion he wnt.
I base "my opinion" on him drafting a pass rusher 3rd rd last year(Vernon). Because of this I state that "I believe" its "highly unlikely" he'll spend a 1st rd pick on the position this year.
Especially considering "pass rush" isnt a #1 need. Arent we like well inside the top 15 fl teams in "SACKS" this year? What about that suggests to you that's urgent enough to draft a pass rusher 1st rd?
I never said I didnt want a pass rusher 1st rd. I said I believe based on evidence(where we rank in sacks, Vernon drafted 3rd rd), its highly unlikekly to happen. I never said I didnt want it, nor it's an impossibility, just "HIGHLY UNLIKELY".
Cant we please not discuss this again, unless you would like to make a "friendly wager"?
Posted by: Yesterday's Gone 4Ever! | December 23, 2012 at 12:06 PM
CraigM,
Remember, I posted to you a couple pass rushers slated to go around 3rd rd? They were guys with better sack numbers than the supposed 1st rd'ers.
Hell, the guy Seattle took 1st rd last year was rated 3rd rd by Walter Campbell. Walter Campbell isnt always right in thier player evaluations. Ask Seattle.

..I apoligize if this gets asked every week. But is there any links to regular season games available today? Freekin ice chunk took out my satellite dish at la cantina, and I have stupid dish network at home..In short no Phins for me today.
Posted by: DarrylDunphy | December 23, 2012 at 12:18 PM
Hi Armando...I think the reason to play today Patterson instead of McCann is the money to be pay -Patterson is almost $150.000 plus
Posted by: Tony in Miami | December 23, 2012 at 12:18 PM
It is very unpleasant to face C J Spiller again.

So much for the signing R.J. Stanford...

This is supposed to be the year of the WR in the draft , that's where I hope they will be looking. I think Egnew had a mental meltdown because he couldn't get the blocking assignments and a casualty of Hard Knocks. That's why he started dropping passes. In college when he had QB during his junior yr he was a serious deep threat.
Posted by: morphin | December 23, 2012 at 12:34 PM
Agnew baby! See what we have in patterson. Already know with McCann.
Vontae davis trade looks great after seeing his stats this year. Albeit we drafted him in round one.

Egnew active? It's a Christmas miracle !

Coffman & Rucker were two other TE's from Missouri who looked like pros in college but struggled in the NFL. Coincidence???

Some of these quotes are hysterical.
### As usual, Nick Buoniconti was the most candid and critical among ’72 Dolphins gathered last weekend. “It’s tough to be this patient,” he said of being a Dolphins fan. “It’s time to stop talking and deliver. Face it: There’s a lack of talent. You know the old story: You can’t make chicken salad out of chicken [bleep].”
Like the other ’72 alums, Buoniconti says of Tannehill: “The kid is going to be good… .[But] obviously they don’t have any playmakers, no explosiveness offensively. Is Michael Egnew that bad? He must be terrible if they don’t play him. When they have opportunities, they’re dropping the ball or doing stupid things on special teams.”

They shoud start fast Today. Look at all the injuries last week for staring out flat.
Posted by: oscar canosa | December 23, 2012 at 12:50 PM
YG,
I don't think cause someone is disagrees with me they are against me. Where have I EVER said that? We happen to diagree on this issue, as we have other issues. Contrary what you and others have tried to say, I'm not here so that people can agree with me.
What I'm saying is, based on the argument you're giving, there is ZERO evidence that the Dolphins won't draft a pass rusher first round. You're making a weak argumet.
Sure we can have a friendly wager on this one. Who do you say they are picking first round?
Posted by: Craig M | December 23, 2012 at 12:51 PM
Ha!!! Couldn't agree more.
And don’t ask Bob Kuechenberg about the wisdom of paying Jake Long a salary similar to $11 million again. “Get serious!” Kooch said. “If someone wants to pay for a guy that’s had a terrible year, well…”
Posted by: We Have Draft Picks | December 23, 2012 at 12:51 PM
Careful YG. Craig will NEVER pay.
Posted by: H | December 23, 2012 at 12:53 PM
One other thing YG,
Doesn't look like it's just me that wants and thinks the Dolphins will draft pass rush first round. To me that's where the VALUE is. Taking a guy like Hunter in the first isn't a value pick to me. There are LOTS of good WRs to be had in the second round.
And before anyone twists what I'm saying, I'm saying pass rush in the first, WR and TE in the second and something like safety and CB in the third. It could be another WR, it could be a G, it could be a T. That to me would be a good draft.
SACKS is not the true measure of this defence. Consistent pressure on the QB is. That's how you beat Brady most games (SF game being the exception). This team NEEDS more turnovers and that comes from making the QB through when he's not ready.

Craig,
I don't think it matters what position they draft in the first round as much as it matters if they nail the pick. If the best player available is a pass rusher than take him.
Since I don't think Starks or Dansby will be on back next year--a pass rusher, a WR, a CB, ILB, a DT, & a ILB are all positions of need.

Posted by: fbd2707748 | December 23, 2012 at 01:07 PM
Armando,
The pipe dream of making the playoffs seems possible except for two hurdles.
1)One they control is somehow beating the Pats at home. Possible if the Pats sit most of their players to avoid injury.
2)The second hurdle will require one BIG puff when Steelers play the Browns next week.
Browns haven't won both games in one season since 1988.
