Dolphins do Trusnik extension, in great 2013 cap situation

It's not about this year anymore, as you know. It's about next year, and particularly next offseason for the Dolphins. And the team has been preparing for that mega-offseason in which it will have five picks in the first 100 picks of the NFL draft and approximately $46,840,000 million in salary cap space, assuming certain things happen.

First of all, the club has done only one contract extension this season. Jason Trusnik last month quietly signed a two-year extension on his original two year deal signed in 2011. That means Trusnik is signed through 2014 now. The extension is worth $2.17 million. It included a $600,000 bonus with base salaries of $715,000 in 2013 and $855,000 in 2014. Trusnik is making $700,000 this season.

It is the only contract extension the Dolphins did during this season. And it adds Trusnik to the list of players under contract to the team in 2013. Those players represent $75,060,751 in salary cap space already taken up for 2013.

Now, the salary cap has been estimated by various sources, including NFL.com, to come in at approximately $121 million for 2013.

So how much cap space will the Dolphins have?

Well, you have to add approximately $1.6 million in dead money to the Dolphins total to bring it to $76,660,751. That tells you the Dolphins will have $44,340,000 for next year.

But there are other machinations.

The club will sign perhaps 7-9 players to future contracts within days after the season. That will take up approximately $2.5-$3.3 million of space. So we're down to around $41,840,000 of available cap space for 2013. The team also has approximately $5 in unused cap space from this year. It can elect to carry over that cap space and use it next year (as most teams do) or not.

If the Dolphins carry over their space -- and I stress that most teams do -- they'd be at approximately $46,840,000 in available salary cap space for next season -- give or take $1 million. Use that as the working figure for available cap space in 2013 as the Dolphins enter free agency.

Free agency, you must remember, will include the 15 or so players Miami has unsigned.

..YG. You know to a fault I am an FCS junkie because of the Griz. I was at the SHSU-MSU game a couple of weeks ago. SHSU beat Montana last year in the semi-finals, he went off. We couldn't stop him. Been a huge fan ever since.

DD,

If Timmy and John end up on nfl teams in 2013, I'll be joining you.

: Yesterday's Gone 4Ever! | December 29, 2012 at 04:52 PM

Common man, I wasn't questioning you just wondering and of course I am aware of planes, trains and automobiles. I've told you plenty I got to travel for a living I just wondered given my only time really in the midwest was visiting my sister Yrs. ago when she went to Indiana U. My work keeps me on the Coast near the Ocean moving Cargo via Maritime.

..Alright fellas. Have a great Weekend,, and a safe and Happy New Years. This is the most hectic, and busy 3 days of the winter for the bar .Set a record for sales yesterday...Anyway, see you guys in 2013!!!

DD,

Also, I think it was 2010, Tulsa played a bowl game. John Flanders(db) won mvp of that game. He had a pick 6, and I forget what else, but he turned it out that game.

I called his father after that game and he said that his cell had been ringing off of the hook with friends and family calling him about John that game.

Darryl/YG,

I just checked ESPN Bio. T.Flanders and they got him at 4.58/40 it probably comes down to his Combine if he goes given the video shows a kid that is clearly a superior athlete in that Conf.

fin4life,

Its cool, I was just thinking, "Why would I have to lie about knowing someone who isnt even famous?"

Timmy and John arent even famous yet for that matter. Its jst feels a little wierd when you start hearing names on the national stage of people that you actually really know. LOL...

fin4life,

Just like I told DD, Timmy's father told me he was once handtimed running a 4.43. But hand times are always reconized as unofficial.

Timmy will probaly get a combine invite. Then we'll see what the computer says. He runs a 4.5 or lower and his stock probably shoots to where he actually gets drafted.

Probably Shanahan will end up with him. He's always been great finding late rd rb's.

Also, Tim Flanders had over 300yds rushing in a bowl game last year. If it wasnt 300, it was damn close to it.

We have had no success with players from Montana. Why continue dipping into an empty well.

Sean Smith isn't going anywhere. New article on PFT.

YG,

You don't think Theo Riddick is a player in the lower rds. especially with Bush probably walking?

By the way Bro in all honesty I've been posting back and forth with you for a few Yrs. now and know you to be heard headed about your opinion but never a liar, or then again did I just describe myself, LOL!

fin4life,

I never heard of Riddick. I havent really been studying any of the rb in this draft. Reason being I really didnt see us drafting until again Thomas is injury proned.

I also dont really study up on players past the 3rd rd. LOL...

But, once we draft them, I'll look them up.

Seems like everyone on WV's defense will be watching nfl games on Sundays just like the rest of us.

Hey, on the rare occassions that D Thomas is healthy, he stinks really bad.

YG,

Riddick is the RB at Notre Dame so you'll see him soon enough on Jan-7. I am not sure on the 40 time but the Irish line him up in the one back formation through the Tackles and he hits the hole fast! They also play him alot in the slot which is important because in our O the RB has to catch. He may go somewhere between the 3rd or 4th and we need another back given I think Philbin isn't a fan of Bush and feels he can replace the production for a cheaper price.

Catch you later!

do we take a salary cap hit if we fire ireland?? or do we get someone that could actually sign free agents that will stick??

That cheap SOB Ross is cutting the payroll to the league minimum so he can pocket all the tv money.

The team also has approximately $5 in unused cap space from this year. It can elect to carry over that cap space and use it next year (as most teams do) or not.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Wow Mando,

A whole $5 bucks!

You know who appear in danger? Incognito and Richard Marshall as they have not played to what they are being paid.

cut carpenter and marshall. huge waste of money there

Whenver YG feels he's going to be wrong, he immediately Flips. Now is not Te'o(he knows Te'o will never reach us) but Theo. Crazy fukkker. One of these days they will nab him.

We know Incognito is a media favorite but there should not be any favoritism here.

Oscar,

Can you explain to Dashi why Dansby Is A Fan Favorite To Some.

I understand Incognito!! He Fits The Profile!! Fat, Fun, and Always Down To Scrap!! What a O-Linemen Should look and act like!!

Now Dansby different Story!! The Guy Is A Prick!!

I Know Dansby Is Self-Centered and Thinks He Is Holier Than Thou!! And That Fits Perfect With Dashi and His Ideals!! The Problem is Dansby Doesn't Live Up to What He Speaks!! Plus, Dansby Is a Prick To The General Public!!

Dansby Is The Kind Of Guy A Little Kid Asks For His Autograph!! And Dansby Tells The Kid It will Cost You $20 for The Initials, $100 for The Full Signature!! And He Doesn't Even Sign!! He Has A Stamper!! Dansby is that dude!!

Never mind the Fins are Spending $13+ Million a Year For Mediocre LB Play!!

Dashi's 3 Cuts For The Fins

Dansby $13.5 Million
Marsha2 $4.5 Million
Incognito $5.5 Million

$23.5 Million in Cap Savings!! Costing The Fins About $3.5 In Cap Penalties!!

Extra $20 Million On Top The Already $46.5 Mil Reported!! Total $66.5 Million In Cap!!With These 3 Cuts!!

Do Your Job Ireland!! Cut the DEAD WEIGHT!!

Certainly looks like a Prick, Dansby does, Dashi. But that's exactly my point. The guy is on his way to have upwards of 120 tackles and is a good pass defender. I If you are fair, Incognito has not performed to the tune of > 5 million.

Take Dansby away and then you will see his value.

Some of you are expecting us to have pro bowlers at every position. That will never happen. Take a look at how many pro bowlers the avg SB team has.

I don't want the Dolphins to go crazy in FA this year either - it never works. But they do need to sign at least one or two WRs and ANY secondary players that are available that they feel can help.

In my view, there will be a completely new L and R sides of the OL around Pouncey. They'll probably Draft one of those 2 Tackles from TA&M and Guards from Alabama.

I thought Dansby earned 8 million+, Dashi.

If something is worth it, I will pay for it. I regularly pay $12.00 a lb for NY strip steak at Publix. However, I will not pay $300.00 a go for one of these jineteras around here.

carp and marshall have to go

His cap Value is $8.5

His Salary is $13.6 or Something Close To It!! (Dashi will Post The Link when I get On The Computer.)

Yes, Take Dansby Away And You Will See His REAL VALUE!!

Dansby Is Mediocre!!

120 Tackles Is Average For a 4-3 MLB!! And Dansby Let's To Many Passes Get Completed!!

Are You Telling Me That If Burnett Was The MLB!! He Would Do A lot Worst Than Dansby? Doubt it!!

Burnett can do The Same Or Better For a 1/4 of What Dansby Makes!! Or A 1/3 if You Want To Get Specific!!

Dashi Agrees!! Incognito and Jerry Have To GO!! Even Before Realizing Cogs Cap Number!! We Need Guards!! Athletic Ones!! Guys That Can Pull and Get To The Second Level!! You are Not Going To Get A Debate Out Of Dashi!!

Look at My Latest Offseason Prediction!! For The Past Month Dashi Has Been Saying our 3rd and 4th Round Picks Should be OG's!! This O-Line Coach Can Coach Them UP!! Look At What He Did at Texas A&M!!

Texas A&M is Playing With Guys Sherman And His Coaching Staff Developed!! The T A&M Coach is Living Off Of The Players Sherm & Co. Developed!! A la Larry Coker!! The UM fans Know What Dashi is Talking About!!

A&M has 2 OT's Rated In The First Round!! Who do U think recruited and Developed These Guys? The New A&M Coach!! Or Sherm & Staff?

Here is a Hint!! The Same Guy Who Developed Von Miller!! And That DE that is Rated Top 5 this year!!

Strip Steak!!

Talking My Language Oscar!!

Dashi Tries To Buy at Least Once Every Few Weeks For The Family!! Fine Dinning!! Just A Little Expensive Buying at Least 6 Strips! But I Think How Much It Would Cost At A Restaurant, 6 Steaks!

Just Cooked Some The Other Day!! Thursday!

Anytime I cook It!! They Think It Was My Grilling!! Can't Take All The Credit!! The Steak Does Most The Work!! Makes anybody look like a Chef!!

What's up losers?

Just Double Checked My Cap Page.

Agreed. Dansby Will Only Cost $8.6 Next Year! Guess he didn't Meet Contract Bonuses!!

MY BAD!!

CUTTING

Carpenter
Incognito
Marshall

Will cost about $3.5 Mil in Dead Money!! But the Cap Saving Would Be $13 Million!

Cutting Dansby Will Cost About Half His Salary!! Not Worth it For 2013!! Just move him Outside!! Dansby is Still Mediocre!! Just Putting My GM hat On!!

BUT FOR 2014!!

Dansby Will Make $11.6 and Burnett will Make $7 Million!! Cutting Them Will Cost About $3.4 Million! But the Fins Will Save Close To $15 Million!! Expect them Gone That Offseason!!

Fixing The Offense Is #1 Priority This Offseason!! The 2014 Offseason Is When We Should Think All Defense!!

Right Now Top Priorities!!

2 WR
2 OG's
1 TE

Top 5 Needs!

On Defense #1 Priority

FS

We Can Live With The Mediocre LB Play For 1 More Season!! And The CB's Are Serviceable!! A Ball Hawk FS Will take This Defense Into That Top 5 Category!! Plus Help With The T/O Problem We Have!!

Dashi,
I own charcoal grill, gas grill, electric grill and a charcoal smoker.

About 2 months ago I started experimenting with McCormick Montreal Steak Seasoning and using the broiler in my over instead of the grills: Wonderful Results! 1 teaspoon/lb for the seasoning and start off with 5 minutes per side until you find your desired doneness.

Dashi,
If it is just you and I here then just come on over.

Ha Ha stupid Phins fans you are so stupid.
For 5 years you say, "Let's just sign this free agent and that free agent".
Ha Ha stupid.
Good free agents don't sign here.
Acorns sign here.
This place one big acorn painting.
Acorn belong on end of wang not on top of depth chart.
Stupid.
Ha Ha

oscar canosa,
Come out come out wherever you are.

I wonder how they do those bifes 3 " strip steaks at Grazianos. I've never even come close to those.

Hooray oscar is here!
Hey buddy.

No way we get to Dimitri Moore unless Ireland trades up. We already have a speed rusher, we need a Beast at the other End.

It took us a whole year to get to this point.
I would like to say thank you to all of the players for entertaining us for another 4 months.
Everyone of you has been used by every human being that has spoken to you since you were 10 years old.

DEVILLE is Phuc Yu is TheSMF is PriceMaster

DASHI....ALL TOGETHER ...................THREE UGLY MEN ,...........

To be sure Kris is here reading along while his wife watches tv, ignores him, and goes to bed without giving him a bj.

Ugly I might be, but not Loco, ni Loca.

I don't care if I'm ugly.
Both of my children are in college.
I got a Chad Henne jersey for Christmas from my daughter.
I probably won't live out next year.
But I'm alive tonight!

Here, you stay with Cadillac. He's not funny at all. GN.

oscar,
Can you find out if Dr. Canosa accepts Blue Cross/Blue Shield.
I'm considering taking FMLA for a couple of months while trying to get stablized on meds that will allow me to perform like I used to.
I need to remove the suicidal feelings but not blunt the enthusiasm that a commission-only high finance salesman needs

I may not be funny right this second but I am a funny Mofo

Tomorrow is the one year anniversary of the end of last season.
Tanne has brought us to 7 wins this season.
2009 Henne 7 wins
2010 Henne 7 wins
2011 Moore 6 wins
2012 Tanne 7 wins

We NEED to win tomorrow to close the book on Henne. Otherwise we will spend all off-season listening to the fact that Tanne did nothoing more than Henne did, with better players than Henne had (replace Martin with Columbus and Bush with Ronnie/Ricky) and see how much Tanne improves.
