Patriots defeat the Dolphins 23-16

The defense played well but ultimately that salt-the-gane away drive that took 7:18 off the clock was a dagger.

The offense?

Brian Harline played well. Jonathan Martin was good enough in replacing the injured Jake Long at left tackle. Nate Garner was not terrible at right tackle.

Everyone else?

They were either bad, like Ryan Tannehill was. Or they were ghosts such as Anthony Fasano and Davone Bess.

Tannehill had 113 passing yards before the desperation drive in the final two minutes when New England was playing prevent defense and merely trying not to give up anything deep. The rookie finished with 187 passing yards on 13 of 29 passing.

As I said, the defense fought hard.

Brady only threw one TD. The same New England team that was averaging 450 yards per game the last month gained 323 yards

The Dolphins are 5-7.

Defense did their job basically, offense was typically horrible against a poor defensive team. Time for a new GM who can find playmakers.

Defense did not play well, Pats treated this game like a practice, trying to improve their running game. They were in control the entire time. Free safety and corner are positions of dire need on this team.

Tannehill is one of the worst qbs in the league currently. Bottom 5 for sure.

I hate NE ... This was a terrible game

We could have drafted RUSSELL WILSON in the 3rd round and gotten a PLAYMAKING STUD at the 8th pick.

Instead we pick Tannehill and EGNEW.

HAHAHAHAHAHHA WHAT A JOKE

Before everyone blames everything entirely on the offense... (They didn't play well) Keep in mind the Dolphins basically gave up 14 points on Special Teams.

Yes defense fought hard. But I have a problem with D-line (suposedly the strength of the D) and that's no penetration on pass plays. Even on run plays, they get tied up and not beating their man.

Is this part of the 'bend don't break'? If it is, I don't like it. Attack, attack!

RUSSELL WILSON IS ANOTHER ONE THAT GOT AWAY.

MATT RYAN. RUSSELL WILSON. AARON RODGERS.

What a joke we are at drafting.

shut up troll

this offense = eneptitude and has no ability to match points with opponents...they continue to rely on a effecient defense and that doesnt win games against opponents like NE, and Hou.....its not like they dont try out there but this is what a defeciency in playmakers have produced over the years for miami....little to nothing..

and miamis FO refuses to believe that this team needs upgrades year after year becuase they believe they have gems in bess and hartline and a TE dallas retread in fasano...what has that combo gotten us since??, now yet a possiblity of another losing season, no playoffs and little hope for the future if things dont change drastically in the offseason

Ryan Tannehill has lots of room to grow. We'll have to see in the next year or 2 if he's capable of getting better. I think he's shown some good things this year. He just needs to be more consistent.

Words cant describe how bad Tannehill is. Luck RG3 Wilson and Weedon has all looked way better than Tannehill. Just look at his stats they're bad!

ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!! where are all the Tanehill supporters? in fact we didnt need to draft a QB at ALL, we have a Franchise QB seating on the bench while those idiots throws away games after games! and the "Tanne" supporters finding the same excuses over and over again! Harline was wide open all day, he should have 3 to 4 TD today.

Ryan Tannehill has no room to grow.

Hes dumb. Hes jittery. And worst of all, hes inaccurate.

Hes a bust.

the play calling was atrocious dont blame it all on tannehill

he missed some throws that could have changed the game but move on hes a rookie hes doing that a few years down the road then id be worried but ofcourse people flip out here

Room to grow. Like i said, he is a bigger version of henne. He looks hood at times but he is not a winner. Look at his record in college. That is whay you are going to get! Mediocre at best.

I'll put my money on Tannehill being a bust more so than a franchise QB.

Tannehill Sucks, Accuracy is a problem, not a playmaker, BUST BUST BUST

lets just keep having losing seasons! at least "Tanne" is playing! is there any chance that this guy may be the son of Ross? why he is playing while Moore is on the bench is a mistery.

Luck is the man. He is a true star in the making. We should have sucked for luck last year. He has brought his team back in Detroit. Can he pull the miracle off? He is amazing!

Boycott home games. Don't show up, Ross is forced to Fire Ireland!!!

Get rid of jake long and his expensive contract, sign a home run hitting wide receiver aka mike wallace in free agency and spend the entire 2013 draft class shoring up that God awful secondary!

Henne > Tannehill

It's funny how the patsies are favored by 7 and win by 7. Hmmm.

Uh, Tannehill is not even a rookie QB. He's sub-rookie, so all of you THill critics need to take a deep breath.

Can we not unite in this sentiment--NEW ENGLAND IS THE LOCUS OF EVIL IN THE MODERN WORLD?!

Andrew Luck.

Now THERE is a quarterback.

Luck has done it! That is a great team to get behind of. Worst decision last year was to win games. Luck is a once in a life time talent.

MJ you are an idiot

where is the famous quote of all the NFL Coaches:

"this QB give us a better chance to win"

this team would be like 9-3 or 8-4 with Moore.

Here is evidence on film that they need to focus on offense in the first three rounds of the draft. They need an offense that scores more points to complement their defense(eventhough it has weaknesses)

..Cocoajoe..We had 4 sacks today. Nobody has had more then 1 the last 5 games v NE..The defense can only do so much. The offense at some point has to be more efficient.

Tannehill only has 4 more games, then his pass is revoked. Some of todays offensive failures have to be directed at him. The protection was pretty good, recievers(Hartline) was open a few times where there were opportunities for big plays. There were a few times Tannehill held onto the ball way to long, and a few where he made some plays when the play broke down(I don't mind him not running, even with the effort we saw the hit he took trying to get that first down. Great effort no doubt..and hopefully in the future we have guys he has more options to throw at)

Some of the good..I thought the line play was pretty good today once J. Long went out. I don't know what the answer is as far as his future here. Personally it is hard to take much from what the line did as the Pats had their 2 starting ends out due to injury and suspension. I would say, it may be in the best long term interest of the team if indeed Long couldn't play anymore this year..We would be able to really get a guage on his value.

Tannehill needs help that of which he does not currently have. For a rookie with no #1 receiver, no seem threat tight end, and an offensive line that's falling apart, I say he's done really well. I believe in Philbin, and I like what this coaching staff has done, regardless of Ireland. Next year will be the measuring stick year.

We should have played every third stringer last year to get Luck, instead we get Tanne-Bust

Luck and Griffin are so much better than Tannehill. Sigh. We just had to win meaningless games last season.

End the Tannehill experiment NOW!

That is why I hate to hear all of these excuses for Tanne. Look at Andrew Luck, he steps right in and is leading his team to the playoffs. That team won 2 games last year, what a difference a QB can make.

you cant compare luck with tanny....luck is by far more of a complete QB at this time and looks like a gem for the colts...tannehill needs another full offseason and a better complimentary unit to help him achieve success in the NFL....

Well, "we shouldnt suck for luck" people. Andrew Luck has done it again. Just beat the Lions with 4 seconds left to play.

Again, like I said in the Live blog, in some rare cases losing is winning and winning is losing. Pride will hand you your a*ss every single time.

We couldnt even lose enough last year to even get RG3.

Philbin will get fired for sticking with Tannehill like Sparano got fired for sticking with Henne.

I'm a Tannehill fan at what point do people stop making excuses for him. The wind? The play-calling? He was on his period?

Come on!! This is where the big boys play and all we ask is for some progression. There was none of that today. All we're looking for is proof that this gut 'gets it' and I didn't see a lot of that today. Inaccurate at times and jittery at other times. Missed guys that were open and didn't do a good job reading the defence. Make all the excuses we want about not having weapons but at some point he needs to get better. Not good enough today...sorry.

All you fools blaming THILL are really pathetic.

Calling for Wilson...really? Where was he last week? Oh yeah, that's right he lost in Miami after doing nothing and watching THILL conduct 3 4th QTR comebacks to win this game.

Yes, RG3 and Luck are showing better their rookie season. But face it, the Fins were not in the running for either one.

Ireland didn't bite on any of the so called 'Big Name' free agent QB's in the offseason. And thank goodness for that. Which one of those players is creating havoc in the NFL right now? Still waiting.....

So, stop the hating on THILL. The kid is a rookie, with little QB experience in college, with few consistent weapons, playing for a poor team who kills itself each week with mental mistakes on offense, defense and special teams.

But he plays with heart, he fixes his prior mistakes (No INT's this week) and is doing all he can to win.

Why can't you compare Luck to Tanny? Because Luck is better? Most retarded thing I've ever heard.

WE SUCK AGAIN!!

Tannehill is the one who made this team with no TE, no WR, no RB, he simple doesnt know how to play QB.

@ 4:32...I don't mind him not running..Makes no sense.

I waould rather see him get rid of it down the road, then subject himself to big hits..Tannehill looks akward as a runner to me. Even though he did make some plays with his legs(not complaining) some QB's know how to limit the contact, others cannot. Eventually you are playing with fire, and even those who can get down. get smoked.

We have to quit making excuses for T-Hill. Our defense played their hearts off against a team that was averaging over 40 points in the last 5 games. Tannehill should sit down and watch game film of Andrew Luck. The Colts won 2 games last year. Thus we should have better talent Tannehill than Luck. Yet Luck seems to get it done with the players he has and T-hill looks like he is lost out there.

Any more excuses for Hennehill?

Earl Ross should of demanded to Sparano to sit all starters since the season was in the dumps. Luck and RG3 we end up with a guy who couldn't. Ring his Texas a&m team to a BCS bowl game. S,mh

Agree that our D is great but Tannehill is just so pathetic.

RT is not going to be the long term QB answer. Enough of this "He's only a rookie." Anyone notice what the other rookie QB's are doing?

You cannot teach RT to make better throws, you either have it or you don't. This is the same argument everyone used on Chad Henne "Give him time." Well we gave him a few years and he still did the SAME THINGS HE DID IN COLLEGE. Interceptions, inaccurate throws, just like RT. I like RT better, but he's still always going to be a average.

no moron, becuase tannehill only has 19 starts as where luck has much more experience in a pro style offense and has better offensive talent supported around him...that might've been the dumbest thing you've ever posted!!!!

THILL missed 2 passes to Hartline...that's correct. They were really bad passes.

But look at the incomplete passes today. Bess dropped the first one. One was under thrown to Hartline but hit him in the stomach. He threw at least 3 away under pressure to avoid a sack. That is five right there that were not his fault but help to create misleading stats.

He ran hard today to give his team a chance to win. He wasn't called for holding 4 times today. Nope that was his teammates.

He didn't rough the punter. Nope that was Wilson.

He didn't drop the punt on the 5th play of the game. Nope that was Fields.

He didn't allow Hernandez to catch a ton of first down conversions. Nope that was Burnett and Dansby.

He didn't allow the NE RB's to march up the field and kill 7 minutes in the 4th QTR. Nope that was the ENTIRE defense.

THILL lost this game today......Really??????

How in the world was Tnnehill a 1st rd pick? LMAO at Irescum!!!

Then why did we draft him at 8 superphin??? Why???

Philbin will get fired for sticking with Tannehill like Sparano got fired for sticking with Henne.

You are an idiot Ron! Go root for the WETS....please!!!

The same people that loved Henne for 4 years love Tannehill. LOL

cj,

The 4 D-Line Occupy The 5-6 Players On The Line!!

DASHI HAS SAID IT A MILLION TIMES. U GET THE D-LINE RUNNING SIDEWAYS! AND ATTACK THE HOLES AND GAPS THAT THE "LINEBACKERS" ARE SUPPOSED TO COVER.

REMEMBER ZACH MAKING PLAYS IN THE GAPS!! THESE LB'S ARE ALWAYS PICKING THE WRONG HOLE!!!

NOTICE U CAN'T PUSH OUR D-LINE BACK!! Get Them Running Sideways And U Attack the LB's!! THE REAL WEAKNESS! FINS CAN STOP ANY POWER BACK! NOW PUT A QUICK RB IN THE BACKFIELD. THE FINS ARE SCREWED! OUR LB'S ARE HORRENDOUS AGAINST THEM!

With THAT SAID THIS WAS A EVALUATION SEASON. LOSING WAS EXPECTED!!! AS LONG AS WE SEE GROWTH!! Wouldn't Mind Finishing 6-10.

Dashi LIKES THAT MATTHEWS AND MOORE! ARE SEEING TIME AT WR!

-------------------------------------------------------

Quick Question?

Have the Fins Improved The WR's Since Training Camp?

How About the Secondary?

-------------------------------------------------------

THE COACHES ARE DOING THEIR JOB!!! THIS IS YEAR 1 OF COACH PHILBIN!! Be Easy Trolls.

NOW MAYBE NEXT YEAR! DEFINITELY IN YEAR 3!! IF THE FINS ARE STILL PLAYING THE SAME AND THE FINS STILL HAVE THE SAME HOLES!! THEN YES!! FIRE PHILBIN!!

HECK THIS DOLPHIN TEAM!! TOOK A WAY BETTER PATRIOTS TEAM THAN LAST YEARS!! AND HELD THEM IN CHECK!! Losing By 7 Against the Pats is not bad.

NO 99 YARD PASSES!! NEVER KEPT IT COMPETITIVE!! AND THAT WAS ON YEAR 4 OF SPORANO! NOT YEAR 1 OF A NEW COACH! AND A NEW DEFENSE!!

Philbin is The Right Coach For The Job. On The ST Teams Coach? REALLY!!!

HAVE U CLOWNS WATCHED ANY GAME?

WE HAVE ONE OF THE BEST ST UNIT IN THE NFL!! AND THE COACH IS ONE OF THE REASONS!! DASHI IS STILL MAD THEY LET WESTOFF GO! A HOF SPECIAL TEAMS COACH!

..Craig M..You are absolutley right @ 4:35..

I think this statement can be made and it doesn't mean you think Tannehill is hopeless, or the team made the wrong call. Or you are hating on him..It is an honest opinion. If it seems harsh, to bad.It is the truth.

We had a guy that was an excuse vaccum behind center for 3 years. We don't need another one. Tannehill is going to be given the time to succeed. Hopefully there are some upgrades to help him out.(and it may not be this year..patience..it sucks) He has shown flashes, no doubt, and perhaps the tape is out, and teams know what we are doing. but he seems to be digressing, not improving.

jpao,

He came out of the gate jittery and inaccurate. That's why I had said he should be shown the bench. I didn't think he looked good early. He settled down a bit as the game went along. He didn't play well today. Don't make excuses for him. I could argue that Clay saved his bacon on one play and there were a couple of others. If we're going to give this guy credit for when the team does well he needs to take the blame for when the offence doesn't look good. That's the nature of the position. No more excuses. He's has 12 games now to get his feet wet. Enough is enough.

Luck had 4yrs of college starting experince. I like Tannehill's upside, but not at 8th overall.

After missing out on RG3 and Luck, I cant believe some in here are still saying they wouldnt root for thier team to lose. Of course not, under normal circustances.

But is the proper circumstance exists, and you dont root for your team to lose to get better, then you're not a real fan of the team either.

Dammit, Im rooting for losing the remaining 5 games. Whether you so-called unloyal loyalist love it or not. What Ive seen on the playing field thus far this year. Only tells me that if it isnt drastically upgraded there will be even more losing for years to come.

We need to be in the best draft position possible to get the highest upgrades possible. Bury your misplaced prides in that!
