FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- The Partiots have been churning yards and moving the chains but it wasn't until Ryan Tannehill threw an interception to open the door that they got on the scoreboard.
Ryan Tannehill threw his first interception in 136 passes (four games) and that gave New England the football inside the Dolphins 20 yard line.
Tom Brady threw a 9 yard pass to Wes Welker a couple of plays later.
That's not all the bad news.
Starting corner Dimitri Patterson came off the field late in the first quarter with an ankle injury. The Dolphins were already without Nolan Carroll. That thrust Bryan McCann into starting duty.

Earl,
You make comments like that @ 5:40pm and I'M an f'n idot and f'n clueless. Maybe you need to buy yourself a mirror.
NEWSFLASH Einstein:
This team hasn't done a damn thing LONG before Ireland was ever a part of this organization. But paint yourself what ever lies you need to paint to help yourself sleep at night. I hear medication works too....try it!

Do we pick any higher after losing this game?

looks like Andrew is back and talking trash, almost as much as he was last week!!!!!!!
Posted by: reg | December 30, 2012 at 05:46 PM
Craig, 7-9 against this joke schedule is much worse than 6-10 against last year's gauntlet.
Armando, I want to be clear I don't think you're afraid to write negatively about the Dolphins unlike many area writers.

I appreciate THILL is not having a great game but....
This defense is HORRIBLE today. They are running and throwing at will!!
This offensive line is not playing well today....to much pressure on THILL and no running lanes for Bush. Maybe Long is needed after all????
Posted by: jpao | December 30, 2012 at 05:47 PM
Folks this is the diffeence between a playoff Super Bowl caliber team and just plain old average team
Posted by: Clue | December 30, 2012 at 05:47 PM
Well on the bright side, at least we'll finish second in the division. Thank goodness we're not a complete train wreck like the Bills and Jets.
Aw, who am I kidding? A 7-9 record is still 7-9. Four years of falling below .500. Ross believes in consistency and now he has it. He should thank Ireland for this.

Earl,
CORRECTION: Biggest DOLPHIN fan ever!!
Try getting your facts straight. I won't listen to your crap about what's best for this team, 'cause you're just a whiner and complainer. You have no plan, other than to get rid of everybody.
Chiefs were 2-14 this year and there's a VERY good chance Pioli will be back. Try learning something about the game before you flap your gums.....EINSTEIN!
Posted by: Craig M | December 30, 2012 at 05:49 PM
Andrew, I understand your frustration but you cannot judge the fins based on this game. Tannehill is the real deal and has showed some real progress. Today the conditions are horrible and this is a tough game for a rookie QB. Ireland's priority will be finding playmakers for T-Hill next season and T-Hill has to continue to develop.
Posted by: Orlando Dolphan | December 30, 2012 at 05:49 PM
Ireland should be fired for just this one game. Best measuring stick on how far we are from even contending. NO WHERE CLOSE!!
Posted by: Earl | December 30, 2012 at 05:49 PM
I wore my #7 Henne jersey today while Henne threw 4 first half TDs: 2 to each team
Posted by: CadillacDeVille | December 30, 2012 at 05:49 PM
6-10=Bad
7-9=Not much better
Unless your a mediocre fan...that might sound better to most that expect progression!!!

ARMANDO,
WELCOME TO BOSTON....... I HOPE YOU BRING WITH YOU BACK HOME ,SOME BACK BONE AND ATTACK IRELAND,,,,,,,,,
Posted by: ALoco | December 30, 2012 at 05:49 PM
Sad but true, we have a loooooong way to go, at least Philbin recognizes it, next season does count for him, grace period is over after this game, we are being taught a lesson on this one
Posted by: MDID | December 30, 2012 at 05:49 PM
Blowout in new England mr Ross. Fire Jeff Ireland tonight please.
Posted by: Mike | December 30, 2012 at 05:49 PM
Craig M....
If the FINS get SHUT-OUT.....or the lose by more than 28.....
Ireland will need to be looked @ real hard again.....

Ninkovich owns Garner.

I can't tell if the D is overwhelmed and exhausted or overwhelmed and given up.
Posted by: 48-Go | December 30, 2012 at 05:50 PM
Also, saying we are just a few playmakers away from contending is a lot like saying congress is just a few compromises away from getting things done.
Ireland has never found one playmaker, how on earth should anyone expect him to find multiple playmakers. If you guys want to just completely ignore Ireland's draft history at WR and TE, that's your prerogative. I live in reality.
Posted by: Andrew | December 30, 2012 at 05:50 PM
Isn't it funny how long it takes for Miami's plays to develop? NE just goes "snap, bang" ... Miami goes "snap, plod, plod, plod (insert incompletion/sack/turnover here).
Posted by: zaphod | December 30, 2012 at 05:50 PM
WOW, WE DON'T EVEN KNOW THE PLAYS!!!

so much for Garner being a possible answer at RT.....dude is reverting to previous form, getting roasted......dominated--not good.

Miserable first half...will the second half be better? We'll see...
Posted by: InsureThisOnline | December 30, 2012 at 05:52 PM
can we defer the 2nd half???..just sayin!!
Posted by: superPHIN | December 30, 2012 at 05:52 PM
I can't say I'm surprised at this first half .
NE has something to play for , and it's cold .
Posted by: Ignignokt | December 30, 2012 at 05:52 PM
I have very little faith that Ireland can get the job done. Passing on TY Hilton and instead drafting Egnew is just one example of his dumb moves! We'll see what happens in the 2013 draft...
Posted by: Jules | December 30, 2012 at 05:53 PM
Orlando, playmakers should have ALWAYS been his priority. The fact he waited until year 3 to focus in on people WHO SCORE should be a clue that Ireland is not the guy.
And he can focus on that area all he wants, he just doesn't have the chops to scout TD makers.
Posted by: Andrew | December 30, 2012 at 05:53 PM
The Dolphins are going to be a 5-8 win team year after year.
Never good enough.
Never bad enough.
What a joke.
Posted by: The Fins Suck | December 30, 2012 at 05:53 PM
You're right Craig M, the dolphins did nothing from 1971-2000, they we're never competitive. IDIOT!!!
Posted by: Earl | December 30, 2012 at 05:54 PM
WOW...how bout that streak for dolphins football...shutout 31 games in 1st half...2nd only to cincy
Now thats something miami can shoot for on offense!!!

Andrew,
Hartline, Bess, Reggie Bush, and Cameron Wake are all playmakers. I agree that it is not enough but he has his QB of the future now. Bring in a top flight receiver in FA, draft a top TE, and get another Pass rusher and this is a different team. This is assuming T-hill continues to develop. The key to big success in the NFL is the QB.
Posted by: Orlando Dolphan | December 30, 2012 at 05:56 PM
Worst half of football I've ever seen this team play.
I thought they'd bring some pride to this game. Patriots have dominated in every aspect of the game today to the point where part of me wonders if it might be 30 MORE years before this team sees a super bowl. Absolutely pathetic. Somebody has to act like they have their head in the damn game.
Posted by: navydolfaninva | December 30, 2012 at 05:56 PM
How can we not have enough evidence after 4 years that Ireland is incompetent?
Do we really need another year to judge him?
Posted by: 72perfectstill | December 30, 2012 at 05:56 PM
Thanks for another losing season Ireland
Posted by: Millions | December 30, 2012 at 05:56 PM
Ireland has focused on OL positions for the last 5 years and our OL still sucks. He ignored playmakers and we have not. Ppl this was a soft schedule as we still finished 7 and 9 until he's gone we'll be stuck in mediocracy. Some if your are blind sheeps loyalists. Craig M and Dashi comes to mind
Posted by: Clue | December 30, 2012 at 05:57 PM
Again,
Dashi is The Only Ireland Fan!!
Very Disrespectful!! Talking about Ireland Has More Than 1 Fan!!
Posted by: Dashi | December 30, 2012 at 05:57 PM
All I can say is WOW...looks like 7-9 Season!
Posted by: InsureThisOnline | December 30, 2012 at 05:57 PM
Craig M says give Ireland an extension, because 7-9, 7-9, 6-10, and 7-9 is good enough. Wow, what a plan.
Posted by: Earl | December 30, 2012 at 05:58 PM
Andrew, he was handcuffed by Parcell's mentality of smash mouth football. All Parcells wanted was OL and DL in the early rounds. He actually has done a good job with the late picks of finding skilled players. Bess (undrafted FA), Hartline (4th round), Mathews (7th), and Clay (6th). I think that you will see him draft offensive playmakers early this year.
