Pro Bowl announced today: Dolphins candidates

The Pro Bowl rosters for the AFC and NFC will be announced at 7 p.m. The Dolphins are bound to get some love from voters despite their 7-8 record.

So which players are viable Pro Bowl candidates?

Cameron Wake is a practical shoe-in. The defensive end is fourth in the NFL and third in the AFC (behind J.J. Watt and Von Miller) with 15 sacks this season.

Wake is the most explosive 4-3 defensive end in football right now. So he is going to get his props, I am assuming.

The field beyond Wake looks a little thin.

Punter Brandon Field leads the AFC with a 50.3 average per punt. His net average of 41.1 is fifth in the AFC so he has worthy and strong challengers in front of him.

Running back Reggie Bush?

I doubt it. He has 960 yards and that's good, but that's only ninth-best in the  AFC. And it's not as if Bush has any statistic, such as 20-yard runs or touchdowns, where he is atop the pack. Nope, don't see Bush getting the nod.

Wide receiver Brian Hartline is 15th in the NFL and sixth in the AFC with 1,014 yards. He has an outside, outside chance because his 14.7 yards per catch is second among AFC leaders, behind only Demaryius Thomas of Denver, who has a 15.0 average.

Mike Pouncey will get some votes but it'll be interesting because his brother Markice Pouncey siphons off a good number.

Reshad Jones will get some votes but I'm afraid his excellent game Sunday -- two fumble recoveries and an interception -- came days too late because players and coaches around the league concluded their voting on Thursday and Friday.

Middle linebacker Karlos Dansby leads the Dolphins with 121 tackles, but that's only 13th best in the NFL and sixth best in the AFC. Plus Dansby doesn't have too many highlight-type plays. The fact Ray Lewis missed most of the season will help Dansby.

So what does this all tell you?

Well, when Miami's top playmakers aren't even in the conversation of top playmakers around the league or conference it says Miami needs more and better playmakers.

Not a surprise to anyone.

Ok Dusty and YG4E,
I wasnt saying Bush wasnt a big part of the offense or that we should let him go. AJ made the point of Bush being a one man offense. Youre right Dusty i did leave off his receiving yards by mistake but again I wasnt trying to discredit the man for not being a vital part of the offense just not the entire. I started out that I liked Bush.

Its a shame we didnt get Russel Wilson. He;s a scoring machine.

I want Bush back next year as the offense finally started using him in the passing game split out and mismatching him on LB's. Bush has been a big part of the offense and was finally being used as he should have been.

dashi,

Its one thing, for in your opinion, to say Tannehill's team mvp.

But its completely crazy for you to say evryone else must admit it. Youre trying to force evryone else to admit an event(Tannehill team mvp) that hasnt even happened yet.

In certain circle thats called a conspiracy to form a lie. LOL...

SHula 73,

No way we could get Russell Wilson. Our gm is like dustybottoms and will pass on all non nfl prototypes, regardless of position.

Yes YG!!

Listed!!

RG3 has at Least 1-1 1/2 Inches Of Braids Standing Up!

Give Him A Buzz Cut!! And He Is Barely 6'1".

And Not To Be A D I C K!!

If RG3 Is Taller Than AP & Reggie!! He Definitely Doesn't Look Bigger!! AP Is Listed at 6'1" 218lbs!

And T-Hill Was Listed at 6'4 7/8"

So If They Can Round up For RG3!! Dashi Can Round Up!! For T-Hill!!

shula 73, correection, not dustybottoms, dashi. Dashi hates non prototypes.

But Ask A DB Or A LB!! WHO THEY RATHER HIT?!! 6'5" 230 or 6'1" 200!!

Same thing With Your Boy Wilson!! Wait Til They Light Him Up!!!

Dashi,

Excellent point. I've said all along that I believe Luck & Tannehill will have the better NFL careers than RG3 & Wilson b/c they have more size to take the bigger hits. You can't win games on IR. RG3 will have the same challenges that Vick had in trying to stay healthy if he continues to play as recklessly as he has.

dashi,

Ok, I gues I now get it.

If RG3 unbraided the fro, they would list him at 6'6. What a pleasure it is to enter into your world of hypothesis and conjecture.

This so much fun who the hell needs reality.

WHDP,

RG3 has more bulk than Tannehill. T'hill's extra weight may be in heiht only. With RG3's body type, if he were 6'5 youre probably looking at 235-240lbs.

Tannehill is tyaller, but RG3 looks bigger. Tannehill looks more likely top snap in half after a big hit.

"I want Bush back next year as the offense finally started using him in the passing game split out and mismatching him on LB's. Bush has been a big part of the offense and was finally being used as he should have been."

MatttyB,

It also had to do with Bush getting healthy. He was not the same player for awhile after he got banged up earlier in the year.

I don't think anyone would disagree that a healthy Reggie is a very good football player.

YG,

Dashi Is Talking To The Moore Fans!!

If They Want To Prop Up!! Some Needless MVP!!!

They Better Admit IT!! When T-Hill Wins It!!

T-Hill Is Going To Win Team MVP!!

You Heard It Here First!!

Not A Dashi Theory!! But Dashi Speaking The Truth!!

A ROOKIE QB!! WHO THE OWNER THINKS IS THE BEST SINCE MARINO!! ROSS WILL GIVE TEAM MVP!! TO T-Hill!!

Or Who Do You Think Has Final Say!! In TEAM MVP VOTING!! The Boss!!

LAst Year Moore Won!! So They(Everybody) Can Laugh at Spo and Henne!! One LAst Time!! Moore Was Just The Jester Of The Ball!!

This Year!! The MVP Will Be Given To The Future Of This Team!! T-Hill!!

dashi,

Moore can walk next year for all I care. He's never been and never will be anything special. Some here are happy with having a mediocre starter for the next 7-8 years. T'hill has far "MORE" promise.

The dolpins qb position doesnt need just "MOORE" of the same for the next 7-8 season. Exactly what you get with Matt "MOORE". "MOORE" BS!

We need "MORE" at qb, not "MOORE". LOL...

True that his knee hindered him there for awhile. I think that if we resign Bush its telling on two things. One that Bush sees this team to be a contender within the time restraints of his new contract. 2 that we resigned him for a decent deal that didnt blow the bank but also was good for him.
The first of the two is the most important to me because it will effect the 2nd. Why take less to be on a stagnant team when you could go to a contender and make the same or more.
One thing that works in favor of Miami not having to pay as much IMO is the lack of state income tax which I would think, helps in contract negoiations.

mattyb,

Truth be told, no one short of a complete idiot gm is going to offer Bush a premium contract. Intermediate contract is the greater possibilty. He can get that here.

Also, Bush wants to play rb, his greatest chance to do that is in Miami. Other teams would probably use him a lot closer to the way Payton used him.

Remember, he left the Saints to come to a 6-10 team to play what he feels he really is. If it was about contender, no way he comes to Miami in the first place.

YG,

Your The One Making Fun Of The Situation!!

Stop Acting! Dashi Is Just Stating Facts!

Height Is Easily Manipulated In Sports!! And Having Braids Or Dreads Add To A Persons Height!! It wasn't Like RG3 Was 6'2" Almost 6'3"!! He Barely was Listed 6'2"!!

And From Your Analysis!! RG3 At 6'5" Would Look Like Cam Newton!!

And RG3 Is Slim!!

Rg3 Looks Like 10lbs Heavier Than Hartline At Most!!

Even Guys His Height!!

QB's That Are 6'2"!!

romo 230lbs
rodger 225
dalton 220
fitz 225
RG3 217
Sanchez 225
Ponder 228

Most These Guys Are Fat!!

RG3 Is Muscle!!

Meaning For His Height And Weight He Should Look More Ripped!!

AP 6'1 217
M.Lynch 5'11 216
CJ 5'11" 191
Forte 6'2 217
Bush 6'0 203

RG3 Has A More C.Johnson Type Body!! Than A AP OR FORTE TYPE!!

Don't Go off What Players Are Listed!! Some Are Made To Look Bigger Depending On The Position They Play!!

It Happens In All Sports!!

YG,

Tannehill is 6'4" & listed at 222 & Griffin is 6'2" & listed at 217. Tannehill still has room to add muscle & bulk to his frame

BTW--Both players are extremely tough but Tannehill took some vicious hits this seasons & he didn't even look fazed or rattled by any of them.

Dashi, Tebow and Wilson are "popular" because of their stories not because they are good or the best. Lewis, Polomalu and Long are popular because they 'were' good, thus people assume they will always be good. Did you hear that Jeff Saturday was leading the pro bowl center ballot. He was just benches! Respect for a guy that is no longer starting due to poor performance? Sure respect his career, it was a great career, but if the pro bowl is (and all-star games) were created to see the best play the best.

If it was always meant to be a popularity contest for the fans they should call it something else.

YG4E,
Remember he was traded and not given a choice. He came here because we gave the Saints a 6th round pick and safety Jonathan Amaya. If im not mistaken Bush has also stated he will test the FA waters. Also, I didnt state anything about getting a premium contract. Agreed the GM would be a complete idiot.

rue that his knee hindered him there for awhile. I think that if we resign Bush its telling on two things. One that Bush sees this team to be a contender within the time restraints of his new contract. 2 that we resigned him for a decent deal that didnt blow the bank but also was good for him.

MattyB,

How much is a 28 year old RB realistically expecting to make??? I believe that what we've paid him over the last two years has been very fair.

BTW--If it's about going to a winning team all of the playoff teams outside the Packers & the Colts have RB's. Maybe the Colts make a run at Bush but the Packers don't pay big money for FA's.

YG4E,

MattyB,

Not true. Bush was about to be a FA & we worked out a trade with the Saints & a two year deal with him before he hit FA.

I agree that what he has been making is fair, I really dont know what youre trying to point out to me. I guess when I say blow the bank in my head over pay for what he is worth at his age and skill level.
And if it is about him going to a winning team then someone will give him enough to make him happy at the chance of winning a superbowl.

So again at the end of the day he was traded and then we worked out a deal with him. Unless he has a no trade contract clause then hes not given a choice. He chose to redo his deal yes but wasnt given the choice to come here.

Since Jeff Ireland never went to college he has no understanding of economics and/or finance; therefore he has no understanding of scarcity.

Example: Let's say a contender like Indy or Denver is willing to offer Bush $5mil and Bush knows he will probably go to the postseason. The only way we can sign him is to offer $6mil therefore the only way Ireland helps this team is to offer the $6mil. In this scenario if Ireland offers $4mil and Bush goes elsewhere than we are not better off. Ireland didn't 'save' $1mil. He didn't save anything because we still need to replace Bush and Bush is no longer available.

If Long makes the Pro-Bowl it will only show how that fan voting=a popularity contest. Polamalu has been a shell of himself for a couple of years now. When a player misses significant playing time for injury, in most cases he didn't have a Pro-Bowl season.

Wake & Pouncey have had Pro-Bowl/All Pro seasons & next up would be Reshad Jones who might need to produce like this for another season before he receives the votes.

D20,

I'm Saying That Is How You MAke it Sound Like. Some Popularity Contest.

Now How You Stated @1:07!!

Dashi Agrees. Except That Dashi Feels It Is Ok To Show Guys That Have Been Consistently Great!! Respect!!

It Happens In Every Sport!!

Do You Think D-Wade Should Make The All-Star Team This Year?

Jeter in Baseball!!

But Out Of Respect!! Unless Someone Truly Separates Themselves!! From Greatness!! The Veteran Legend!! Should Get The Nod!!

It's Creating A Standard!!

=======================================================

Agree With WHDPs!!

reggie is 28!! 2 Years From Hitting The Great RB WALL!!

He Can't Ask For Nothing Crazy!!

And The Coaches Love The 21 Year Old L.Miller!!

Bush is (or should be) glad he came here. If it weren't for us he'd forever be known as a bust and strictly a role tailback. We proved to the league he's an every down back. We gave him his next big pay day.

Could another team have done it? Certainly, but no other team was interested. In retrospect a 6th round pick and backup safety for a player of his caliber? Shows how far his stock has rose in 2 years

The Titans crush the Phins,
Green Bay crushes the Titans,
What would Green Bay do to the Phins.?

dusty,

I see you're posting some of the same BS predictions on here. First it was 'Henne will never start a game in this league again' Then it was 'Sparano won't be back next year as HC (of course he was)'. Then it was 'Bill Cowher will be the next HC in Miami'. Then it was 'Jeff Ireland won't be back next year as GM' (of course he was again) and now I read you saying 'Jeff Ireland will be fired one week from today'.

Do you ever worry about your credibility on here? Do you ever get any of these predictions right? Just wondering....

Do You Think D-Wade Should Make The All-Star Team This Year?
Jeter in Baseball!!

Nope I don't think either should, which is why a name (and reputation) are more important than statistics and ability

Cadillac,
Jeff Ireland (born in Abilene, Texas) is the general manager for the Miami Dolphins in the National Football League. He has previously served as an executive for the Dallas Cowboys, a scout for the Kansas City Chiefs and an assistant coach for the North Texas Mean Green. He played college football for the Baylor Bears. As a child he was a ball boy for the Chicago Bears.

From Wikipedia

lol

Homers lol

The Fins beat the Seahawks then the Seahawks destroyed the 49er's, what do you think the Fins would do to the 49er's?

DeVille,

I don't know if paying a 28 year old RB $5 or $6 Million based on his production the last two years is a good business decision.

If Ireland didn't miss on Thomas we're not even having this discussion. I believe Miller will have a better NFL career than Thomas but I agree with you that we still need to find another RB.

Agree With WHDPs!!

Dashi,

And what playoff team other than the Colts would pay him $5 Million a year??? I just don't see it happening.

IMO--Only a struggling team like the Raiders that wants/needs 'star power' would make an offer like that.

After reading Irelands Bio I had no idea how much he has been around football growing up..
Ireland is the stepson of College Football Hall of Famer E. J. Holub, who played center and linebacker for the Kansas City Chiefs and Dallas Texans. Ireland is also the grandson of Jim Parmer, who played for the Philadelphia Eagles and was a personnel executive for the Chicago Bears

Also was a kicker for Baylor when they were ranked #8 in the nation..

Hey Cadillac I think you forgot Moore only played a half season and did you count his win this year!

The Fins beat the Seahawks then the Seahawks destroyed the 49er's, what do you think the Fins would do to the 49er's?

MattyB,

We played them already & lost remember??? BTW--The Seahawks are a COMPLETELY different team at home than on the road. They'd gash us in their stadium.

WHDP,
what if he is willing to take less to be on a playoff contender? I havent heard anywhere that he is demanding 5-6 million a year just that he will test the FA waters..

WHDP,

I believe "pure rb-wise" Miller will have a better career than even Bush. Miller does far less dancing. Bush a lot of times gives 2-3yd runs looking for the "homerun".

They often lead to "no-gain" or "1- 3yd losses".

WHDP,
I remember man, i was messing with Homers post..

After reading Irelands Bio I had no idea how much he has been around football growing up..

MattyB,

Yep. Great pedigree but mixed results at best so far in FA & the draft.

WHDP,

Matty B,

Like who??? I can't name a team other than the Colts or Packers that need help at RB...

But what I do absolutely love about Bush, is there isnt a more exciting openfield rb in the entire nfl. In the openfield Bush can make heven accomplished nfl tacklers look peewee leaguish. LOL....

WHDP,
Yeah it also stated that while he was a kicker he was known for making the big kicks but missing the closer ones...
In some peoples opinions that seems to be like his career as a GM or opposite depending on how you want to look at it..

"what if he is willing to take less to be on a playoff contender? I havent heard anywhere that he is demanding 5-6 million a year just that he will test the FA waters.."

MattyB,

He's also said hthat e wants to stay in Miami. He's saying he will test the FA waters b/c we haven't made him an offer...Yet.

WHDP,
Realy whomever, adding more horses to the stable doesnt hurt anyone. Its a two back system now so anyone would or should be open to the idea of adding more talent to an already talented team. Take New England for example, you think that they wouldnt take him for the right price to create even more mismatches on LB's?

IMO, it wont neccessarilybe a team rb needy who will be hotly after Bush's services. It could more be a team with an accomplished rb corps or rb, thats looking to add an entirely dimension or threat to thier offense

This could perhaps even include the Pats. I dont think thier many teams looking to make Bush thier top or only threat.

I guess this is one thing that I dont understand about Ireland, why do we not negoiate contracts in season? This is my lack of knowledge here, in the back of my mind I always remember other teams negoiating during a players final year.

Only a fool wouldnt test the waters to find what his true value may be. Or if there's an idiot out there willing to grossly overpay him. Thats only human nature.

Thats what im saying YG4E

Yeah it also stated that while he was a kicker he was known for making the big kicks but missing the closer ones...

MattyB,

The book has been completed on Ireland just yet. He can definitely redeem himself with this FA & draft. If Tannehill improves & this offense can score points next year the 'Firelands' will go the way of the American buffalo.

Craig M......

You asked me a question a few days back about WHY I give PHILBIN a pass (as I plan to for the next 4 years...year one has passed)......

and WITHOUT a LONG DRAWN out answer....read the article again.....

NO PRO-BOWLERS=NO TALENT........

Its AMAZING what a job Philbin has done...considering what he was given...the proof is in the pro-bowl votes......

aaahh. fatcells to the jets,
let that fat pos destroy them even more and knock them back to the stone age.
lmao

http://network.yardbarker.com/nfl/article_external/new_dolphins_logo_for_2013_leaked/12503791

Pro-bowl? Simply a stand up beauty contest which, If I were playing, something Id rather not do. The game is now a joke, most of the players give the game a mild performance at best, and why risk injury to a million dollar a yr job ???

I agree WHDP, this is Irelands most important and telling year as a GM. He has done a good job accumilating picks for the draft and high picks at that. He also, will have a good amount of money to spend as well unlike last year. I think he is finally out of the restraints that the Parcells era had him operating out of.

WHDP,

MattyB,

I think NE is pretty set at RB. They already have Ridley, Vereen, & Woodhead. All cheaper options. They're ranked 8th in the NFL this year in rushing yards & we're ranked 13th.

Dashi,

Agree with you on T-Hill as team MVP.
