Through 12 gamess Moore was better than Tannehill

Remember when Joe Philbin, faced with a rebuilding year, staunchly refused to admit the Dolphins were rebuilding?

We all expected it to be a rebuilding season and knew for certain it was coming when rookie Ryan Tannehill won the starting job in the preseason. Let's face it, many rookies need time to acclimate and grow into the quarterback position in the NFL.

(Well, maybe not Andrew Luck, Robert Griffin III, and Russell Wilson but you get the idea).

The point is Tannehill has so far proven one thing this year and it is not that he's a future franchise quarterback. He's proven what everyone said before the draft was right. He's raw, he's inexperienced, he's a project.

The proof of this is not so much how Tannehill compares to the other rookie quarterbacks within his own draft class. It is how he compares with the veteran who played with basically the same cast of talent in Miami last year.

The proof is how Tannehill compares to what Matt Moore did with the practically same offensive group last year. And this is the perfect time for that comparison because Tannehill has started 12 games for the Dolphins. And Moore started 12 games for the Dolphins in 2011.

Tannehill has completed 210 of 363 passes (57.9 completion percentage) for 2,559 yards. He has thrown seven TDs and 12 INTs. His quarterback rating is 72.3. The Dolphins are 5-7.

Moore in the same number of 2011 games completed 193 of 321 passes (60.1 percent) for 2,330 yards. He threw 16 TDs and 8 INTs. His quarterback rating was 88.7. The Dolphins were 6-6.

The comparison is valid now because obviously the number of games between both players is equal. But the point is not necessarily that Moore was better.

The point is the Dolphins this year have taken a step backward in quarterback performance. Moore delivered better QB play than Tannehill but still was not deemed good enough because Miami drafted a quarterback in the first round and signed another accomplished veteran in David Garrard.

But now the Dolphins are accepting worse quarterback play with the expectation that today's pain will lead to tomorrow's gain. No one is saying that Tannehill should be benched -- even Philbin this week admitted he's not considered it at all this season.

And no is is suggesting the Dolphins will need to look for another (better) quarterback in the draft next year -- no one is saying it yet, anyway.

Why?

Because this is a rebuilding year. Tannehill is getting something of a pass this year.

Even if Philbin didn't want to admit it early on.

WHAT MAKES ANY ONE TRUST ANY ONE LIKE SHERMAN ????

Haha, Steve. Hartline isn't bad, but I don't think anyone is saying he is a #1 WR. Solid #2 with GREAT hands. He struggles at getting seperation, even when Marshall was here getting doubled.

Dashi, I agree with you, turnovers are a sure way to find yourself on the bench.

WHDP, I think that's exactly what will happen. I think the biggest winner from Long being allowed to walk (or signing a deal more in line with his current abilities) will be Hartline. They'll be flush with $$. And like you said, give Hartline a real weapon on the other side (like a Wallace) and now he's doubly as dangerous. And then Bess becomes TRIPLY as dangerous. And if Clay can get his act together, he'd be covered by the NT (kidding). But you get my point. That's what NE does, too many good targets to cover them all, and the QB just needs to find the mismatch.

WHY DASHI ALWAYS PAT HIMSELF ON THE BACK ?

NO SHAME
NO INTEGRITY
NO DIGNITY
SELF CENTERED .............

DASHI MUST BE FROM FLORIDA .......

HOW MANY TD HAVE MR (( HARTLINE )) CAUGHT IN THE LAST 4 SEASON ?

ANSWER............2............

FASANO........NONE.......

Lol finally, that home character was out of control. Good riddance.

On the Tannehill thing, we're not stupid allthough for some reason the organization insists on treating us thay way. Most of us knew it was a work in process. But putting a very inexperienced qb into a situation like this was stupid. Like him or not Marshalls abscence only magnifies the flaws everywhere else on the offensive side of the ball. And expecting this rookie qb to make those problems disappear was extremely short sighted. I thought he should sit a year and had many reasons a lot of which are proving to be true.

The argument against was he would get his growing pains out of the way. Lets hope thats the case.

Armando,

It's easy to just look at the numbers from one season to the next, but it's not a complete picture...they played on two different teams, with different talent levels - i.e. Marshal - which has been already pointed out. They have also played against different teams this year, with the same changes from year to year in talent level - what makes one team good one year does not necessarily correlate to that same exact personal/scheme the next year achieve the same level of success.

Ryan Tannehill has had the unequalled opportunity that the other rookie QB's did not benefit from this year...he's playing almost the same playbook that he used last year. That should mean something in his progression and success. However, his inability to be consistent from game to game does not indicate that. He needs a lot of work this off season - and so does the coaching staff. I don't just blame him.

As far as Mr. Moore is concerned. Keep him on the bench. He's a nice back up. There's no room in Miami for a QB controversy. Especially when it's between two QB that are both under .500 for their NFL careers.

The one caveat for Tannehill is that you don't want him to be shell shocked and running scared when the rest of the team gets better...the NFL is littered with guys who couldn't cut it and are now backups because they couldn't handle the pressure of growing with the team. Tannehill's the guy right now...

He needs to stay healthy and work hard this off season with his coaches, WR's and backs...

WHDP:
I thought Tannehill was a big reach at #8 -accepted it but never imagined the coaching staff would start him over Moore. Of course I never thought they would jettison Marshall, Davis and Ochocinco, either. I just watch the games now wondering what could have been -and worrying about what it will be like next year.

We have no idea what the record would have been with Moore as QB but we sure know what it is with Tannehill. You can't argue over the facts.

If we're going to run the WC like they do in GB then we're going to need to find another TWO WR's (on top of Hartline) & a play making TE.

I'm glad they're finally taking a look at Matthews b/c regardless of whether we sign a Jennings or a Wallace we're still going to need other guys.

Bill,

I thought he was a reach as well & definitely didn't think he would be the starter this year.

There's no doubt about it--once Tannehill was named starter it was a lost season. All I can say is that I hope the kid gets better & I hope we give him some help.

Moore will not take you to a Super Bowl.

Need to be top tier, so you need to find the ceiling for t-hill.

Damn rights he gets a pass. Shown more than enough for me.

no td's = sux

Salguero is not still here hanging on your every word, guys.

Everyone gets caught up in the QB rating as a total. From the beginning of the year I wanted Tannehill to have 8 games with a rating over 80. That should be the judgement. As a rookie with this team if produces a rating over 80 in a given game they should a great opportunity to win those games. Tannehill has had two crap games HOU and TEN in which he was really bad but how many rookies dont have bad games 15% of the time. Half of his picks were in those two games but he has kept MIA in every game with the exception of those two. He is not winning games which I think we would all like to see win at crunch time but he has kept us in games. If it was not for Luck R-GIII and Wilson, We would all be very happy with T-Hill. I dont know if he is the answerbut please dont campare him to Moore. Moore might get any team 8-10 wins a year on good years but the is not a Super Bowl QB

Get Dashi's Name Out UR MOUTH!! Talk FOOTBALL!

Mark, I'll prolly always remember that name cuz the first time I had heard of him was when he fell backwards off the bleachers. I then asked who it was cuz it was so funny n my teammate was like "that's David bond he's a retard don't laugh". Always felt that it was a shame he'd never truly get to enjoy his name. Like if he was trying to Mack at a bar n broke the ice w Bond, David Bond...

Folks the long and the short of it is RT is not that good. i keep repeating myself, he does not anticipate the receivers breaks, he deos not step up in the pocket to buy more time and he continues to make poor decisions on his receiver of choice. additionally, knowing the system from last year you would expect he develops and progressively makes better decisions, which he is not doing. he is actually regressing and if you can not see that we are going no where for a long time.

he may be smart and athletic but that does not translate to good qb play. good qbs inspire and elivate the surrounding players. i am tired of hearing you guys say he needs better surrounding players. Marshall was not that good for the dolphins so stop with that argument. i would have preferred Moore starting. he is a gamer and could do no worse than RT.

the staff and front office are going to stick with him because they chose him.

i like philbin and i think he is a better evaluator then JI. if sherman doesn't develop this guy and they change OC we are in deep sh&* because RT will fail in a new system and we will be right back to where we started from.

i keep saying this, but i hope i am wrong. i just don't see it. RT was a rach at 8. a good football guy would have picked R. wilson. sorry JI you should go as well.

bring in Piloli and son we can do no worse.

one last point to Ross. Please bring the STADIUM spectators stands closer to the field. Ever since we left the Orange Bowl we have been sh*%, no home field advantage. get the fans up close and maybe the enthusiasm will inspire our team.

I don't think it's fair to compare the body of work between Moore 2011 and Tannehill 2012. For starters Moore had been in the NFL for 5 years already and had every shot in the world to be the man in Carolina. They say year 4 is when most QB's take the biggest leap and Moore in 7 starts only won a single game with at the time arguably the best RB tandem in Football with DeAngelo and Stewart behind a solid OL and still 29 yr. old S.Smith.

I remember when we signed him I felt almost cheated given the state of the Panthers under him and went back to research his #'s and they weren't terrible but one thing jumped out at you and that was the 5.2 yard average per attempt which also explained the move of bringing him on to me given he was in a ball control oriented attack. He was more game here in Miami and took his shots be if your going to be fair about it his deep ball seemed to stay in the air for a loooong time and it wasn't the most accurate in the world either.

Remember back to the Giants game last yr. guys he had Devone Bess running by himself in a blown coverage about 40 yards downfield alone and horribly under threw the pass (please don't start with the winds at the Meadowlands because in that game Eli hit Cruz on a similar play going to the same endzone) if he hits that pass it would have given us another 7 in the 2nd half which could have won the game. From an athletic stand point Tannehill is the better player and I prefer seeing him in there now as opposed to sitting behind what is essentially a career back up.

THE GREATEST POST EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Folks, you'll notice today and going forward that Home is not on the blog anymore. He has been banned. I tell you this as a warning that this is and will continue to be a football blog. We will limit impersonators and trolls and people that leave lewd or disgusting remarks. And if it gets out of hand, those who insist on doing that stuff will be banned.

Have a great day!

another point for you defenders of RT. as much as Sparano was a nice guy he was crap as a head coach. look at the sh*& the Jets have put on the field. Why Ryan picked him as an OC is a question in itself.

Matt M. played better under that crap coaching staff than RT has played in a better coaching staff and better offensive line............please wake up people.

WHDP: -All I can say is that I hope the kid gets better & I hope we give him some help.

I am with you, but...

Neither Sherman nor Philbin have experience developing good QBs. Sherman was fired from Green Bay because, among other reasons, they wanted to get and develop a new QB for the future. They felt Mike McCarthy could do that better. It was McCarthy, not Sherman or Philbin that brought Aaron Rodgers along.

Now to football:

The greatest and most egregious happening the entire preseason was Matt Moore's totally enept and down right stinky performance. It isnt Tannehill's fault he was named opening day starter. It totally and consequently 100% Matt Moore's fault.

Still, at least Matt Moore had something that at least resembled a recieving corps when Brandon Marshall's added back into the equation. IMO, how can compare with 100% accuracy Moore and Tannehill when a pro bowl wr is taken from the equation?

Sure you can compare 12 games to 12 games. But in one of those 12 game comparisons you have Brandon Marshall, a pro bowl wr entered into the oh so vital equation. In the other 12 games you dont.

So what really gives here?

Again A loco!

SMALL PEOPLE TALK ABOUT OTHER PEOPLE!!

Dashi starts Posting and AUTOMATICALLY THE TROLLING STARTS!

MANDO!! I'm Trying to Keep Cool! But The Loca is Starting!!

U Got Rid Of Snooki!! But JWOWW is Still HERE!!

It was 2 Trolls Not 1! Even Though Home Is Truths Daddy! A loco is Still Here! We have a Fatherless Troll Running Around!!

Mando, you know darn well that Tanne is 4-7. One of the wins this year is Moore's.

Moore is 7-3 in his last 10 games with QB rating of 93.

Armando,

thank you very much! finally someone go ahead and show this stats, this team is a playoff team with Moore easily, this rebuild thing is another big mistake, they should have keep everything the way it was, they even should have keep Bowles as the HC, Philbin is another failure, and RT will be a 3rd string by 2014. When everything was looking great, they destroyed again, and please, stop the Marshall thing, Marshall was here for Henne, and didnt did that much neither, besides, look at Armando comparision beetwen Marshall and Hartline!

Gamess. In the headline...

As far as Hartline is concerned, I agree with Armando, I think it's a very real possibility that he's playing in New Engladn next year in the Welker role. Cheaper ad younger and fits what they want him to do.

If you're Brian Hartline, do you want to play for a team that's won 9 of the last ten division titles and have Brady throwing to him or do you want to stay in Miami and continue to rebuild with Philbin and Tannehill. If I'm Hartline, it's an easy decision.

For all the guys saying 'get rid of Long and Dansby', be prepared to have another hole to fill via FA and the draft. Armando was the first one I heard bring this up and I think he's dead right on this one.

A loco,

Do U know! The Definition Of Integrity?

Of Course NOT!! U post Under Different Names! And Never Admit When U are Wrong!!

Dashi is a Pillar Of INTEGRITY!!

And MORON!! TO HAVE NO SHAME!! IS TO HAVE NO DIGNITY!! Same Difference!

AGAIN DO U THINK BEFORE U TYPE??

DOUBT IT!!

He is horrible period. Go ahead and give him another year and we will see the same exact thing next season. Horrible first round pick.

The best comments here have been made by Homer and Mando himself.

Moore is a better QB. Period.

Tannehill will be lucky to still be in the league in 5 years.

DASHI;;;;;;;

I AM WRITING HOW I FEEL WHEN I READ YOUR POSTS ,I AM FREE TO POST HOW I SEE FIT ..........

I STILL THINK YOU R A SELF CENTERED PERSON WITH NO DIGNITY ,,,,,,,,,

THIS MY VIEW,AS I SAID BEFORE,ARMANDO NEVER WRITES ANY THING BAD ABOUT OUR GARAGE MANAGER B/C HE LEAKS INFO TO HIM ...............

THIS IS NOT TALK ABOUT OTHER PEOPLE ,,THIS IS TALK OF OTHER PEOPLE ,,,,,,,,,,,

A pro bowl wr was taken from what was supposed to be a qb that rode the pine behind Matt Moore for at least a full season. Matt Moore stunk up the joint during preseason forcing the coaching staff to go with the raw inexperience rookie.

This kid's ride was going to be rocky enough even with a pro bowl wr(Marshall). True, Marshall could have been a possible headache, but would have made one helluva security blanket for this kid.

You guys really think this comparison is 100% accurate when you take a pro bowl wr out of the equation? If Marshall were still here and Moore still had better 12gm numbers, then game on.

This is like trying to compare what Moore's numbers would have been had he not had Brandon Marshall. Like it or not, Brandon Marshall was a huge part of Matt Moore's 2011 success.

Mando, when are you going to ban Dashi and Aloco, who are about 800 times worse than Home????

************************
BAN DASHI AND ALOCO
*************************

I don't know what the right decision is as far as when Tannehill should have seen the field. I'm kind of on the fence with that whole argument. But I will say, this coaching staff has made some curious decisions and this may be another one. We've seen the playing of Naanee and Gaffney, when maybe we would have been better off seeing the kids play. We've seen the benching of Bush and Thomas at different times. We've seen Egnew and Miller not dressed a lot and in Miller's case not sued when maybe he should be and we've seen the curious decision to have Cam Wake on the sidelines at key points on Sunday. All in all, not exactly a coaching staff that makes you think they get it right as often as they should.

DASHI ,,,,,,,

ASK ARMANDO IF I POST UNDER ANY OTHER NAME DONKEY ,,,,,,,,,,,

AND WHEN ARMANDO SAY NO,I WOULD LIKE YOU TO ADMIT,YOU R A BROWN DONKEY.

Craig, Hartline would "at least" replace Welker.

A healthy Hartline with Brady throwing to him would go something like 80 catches for 1400 yards.

More YPC than Welker. (This analysis presumes that Brady remains as good as he is now at age 36-37.)

Yg,

Great post!

The MORONS!! FORGET HOW BAD MOORE WAS!! IN THE PRESEASON!!

HE LOOKED WORST THAN DEVLIN!!

It WAS MOORE'S JOB TO LOSE FROM THE BEGINNING!!

He Got Beat Out For the #1 After Training Camp! By Garrard! And Then He Got Beat out by T-Hill in PreSeason!!

Moore lost the Job Twice!! Yet Moore Should be the Starter!!

Really!!

FIRE JOE,

ARMANDO WILL NEVER BAN ME B/C I NEVER POST UNDER ANY OTHER NAME BUT MINE...............I ONLY POST WHAT I BELIEVE ......

Craig's analysis of the coaching is spot on.

It's pretty clear at this point that Joe needs to go.

Sherman too, of course.

The coaching staff is single handedly responsible for 3 losses. We should be 8-4.

DASHI,

YOU THE BROWN POLICE DONKEY OF THIS BLOG.........

In my post Im not trying to be the defender of Tannehill. I just like to all of the facts introduced and then game on.

You cant have one runners shoe laces tied together and the other runner's lace are free. Then call it a fair race. That's exactly what youre doing when one qb had the pro bowl wr and the onther one didnt.

Whatever happened to Marlo Thomas? Haven't heard anything about her in years. Hope she's in good health.

Dashi, the preseason is practice. Are we talkin' 'bout practice?!? Practice?? Come on! We talking about practice now???

Winners like Iverson, Tebow, Moore, and Goldberg save it "for the ring."

Shula was god. the only problem he had was being loyal to olvedotti (sp?).

all out ther do not disrespect Shula! had he and Marino had a defense we would be talking multiple SBs.

leave the man alone. he is an icon.

Craig M.

Really that's the point isn't it! The coaching staff has failed this team in many ways. Yes these guys are paid handsomely to be productive on the field...and many times they are not, but when you sit players because you are trying to prove that you are the boss - that's a concern.

As much work as the individuals on this team have to do in the off season to be competitive next year, the coaching staff needs to stop acting like a bunch of rookies too.

Mistakes happen throughout a season, the Dolphins need to minimize these mistakes and turn it around...

You guys who hate Tannehill and Philbin need to take your argument straight to Don Shula since he clearly COMPLETELY disagrees with you about both of them.

But by all means keep trying (desperately) to sound as if you have 'expertise' on these matters.

Craig,

Agreed. Getting Rid Of Long is Creating a Hole! We will see that the Next 4 Games!

Getting rid of Dansby NOT THAT HARD! U Know Dashi Loves To Expose Dansby!! But Dansby has Put his Foot in his Own Mouth!! Enough Times Over the Past 2 Weeks! So Dashi doesn't have to expose his inability to do HIS JOB!! Heck Dansby Doesn't Even Knows Who Lines Up in Front Of Him!!

And A loco,

Dashi doesn't have to ask Mando!! Fool! U REGURGITATE THE SAME S H I T!! WITH a different Name!

And Let me Guess U Think! I'm Black Because of the Race Issue!! Ignorant and Racist!! We all Know who the Real N I G G E R in here is!!

Again, Dashi doesn't like Getting Personal!! But The Situation I was In Wasn't Cause of Me! I'm Going To Leave it at That!!

Oh, and Loca!! U Still TALKING DASHI!! NOT FOOTBALL!!

dashi,

Thx. Thats coming from a guy(Me) who was 100% against the 8th overrall drafting of Tannehill. My greatest argument at that time was had Barkley and Jones comeout. It was possible Tannehill drops to a 2nd rd qb.

Tannehill had only 18 college starts. To make matters worse, Ireland strips him of a pro bowl wr(Marshall). For all of this I lay the blame squarely at the feet of Jeff Ireland(making T'hill 8th overrall, stripping him of a pro bowl wr, and no adequate replacement)and Matt Moore(virtually handing Tannehill the starting job cxoming out the gates).

Can we blame Matt Moore for "INTENTIONALLY" sucking during the preseason after knowing Brandon Marshall, his pro bowl wr was gone?

DASHI........ YOU SAID I POST UNDER MANY NAMES DONKEY............I ASK ARMANDO TO SAY IF IT'S TRUE AND IF IT'S NOT YOU OWE ME AN APOLOGY AND AN ADAMISON YOU R A BROWN DONKEY........DEAL ......

fire joe = Home

Home,

Preseason is not Practice!! It is a Scrimmage!!

And If U can't Preform in a Scrimmage! U won't in a REAL GAME!!!

Moore was HORRENDOUS IN PRACTICE!! Yet Philbin Made Him The Starter!!

MOORE LOST THE JOB TWICE!! PLAIN AND SIMPLE!!

I REMEMBER YG4EVER JUMPING UP AND DOWN WHEN OUR GHARAGE MANAGER DRAFTED OUR NO 8 PICK AND NOW HE SAYS HE WAS AGAINST IT.........

THAT'S CLASSIC ,NO SHAME ANSD NO DIGNITY ,,,,,,,,,,,,,

THIS COACHING STAFF FAILED THIS TEAM IN THE PRESEASON WHEN IT TOTALLY MISJUDGED THE TEAM. THE DOLPHINS AT THE END OF 2011 WERE PLAYING GOOD FOOTBALL AND THE LACK OF MORE SCORING COST THEM 4-5 EXTRA VICTORIES. CHAD HENNE WAS GARBAGE AND WAS GIVEN TO MUCH ROOM TO FAIL WHEN HE WAS ALREADY A FAILURE. TANNEHILL SHOULD HAVE 3 EXTRA VICTORIES.(JETS,ARIZONA,COLTS) THE COACHING STAFF FAILED TO PROVIDE THIS QB WITH WEAPONS. TRADING MARSHALL HURT FASANO AND BUSH MORE THAN ANYTHING THIS IS WHY WE MUST RESIGN HARTLINE(FRANCHISE) AND THEN SIGN A DEEP THREAT RECEIVER TO OPEN THINGS UP(MIKE WALLACE). PITTSBURGH WILL NOT RESIGN HIM AND THE JETS,PATRIOTS,AND BILLS WILL BE AFTER HIM. HE FITS US PERFECTLY AND ALL PLAYERS WILL LOVE TO PLAY IN SOUTH BEACH IF WE HAVE A CHANCE TO WIN. WE DO AND WE HAVE THE QB. GET THE MAN SOME WEAPONS. STOP GETTING POSSESION RECEIVERS. TY HILTON WAS IN OUR BACK YARD AND WE FAILED TO EVEN CONSIDER HIM. HE IS VERY FAST AND IS AN UP AND COMING PLAYMAKER. IRELAND HAS A PROBLEM WITH GOOD BLACK WR! THE SAME AS PARCELL ALWAYS HAD(GLENN,JOHNSON,TO,MARSHALL,AND CHAD JOHNSON) NOTICE THE TREND! NOT TO MENTION THAT THE DALLAS WR WAS REJECTED BECAUSE HIS MOM WAS A OR IS A? WHO CARES WE WANT TO WIN. SO TO FIX OUR PROBLEMS TO GET THIS FRANCHISED TURNED AROUND WE NEED TO SCORE POINTS AND DEFEND THE PASS. EITHER IRELAND GET IT RIGHT OR WE WILL SUFFER THE NEXT 5 YEARS.

Terry, do you think typing in ALL CAPS makes your post look more important or readable?

It makes you look like an idiot.

One of the areas the team and coaching staff have to get better at this off season is making adjustments on the fly. During games this year, and over the past few years, the Dolphins don't seem to know how to make adjustments in games.

Whatever the playing calling they came up with against a certain scheme during the week leading up to the game is what they are stuck with throughout the game. They don't make the necessary adjustments...this approach becomes easy to defend - or on the other side of the ball, play offense against. It's cost this team wins for years.

They need to get better changing it up this off season, understand the entire playbook, and figure out when the other team makes adjustments that there are times when you do too...

Aloca,

U still talking Dashi!!

I Guess the JWOWW REMARK SEEMS FITTING!!

U have been Going on a Tirade!! SINCE!!

And Fool!! Ur CORNY DONKEY REMARK! IS NOT FUNNY!! NO ONE IS LAUGHING!! DID U READ WHAT MANDO SAID AT THE BEGINNING OF THIS BLOG!!

U ARE PERSONIFYING WHAT HE SAID!! MAGGOT!!

The same cast of players???? My ass are you kidding me? You are such a joke it's not even funny. How is a broken O line, a less than 1000 yard runner in reggie bush, a missing Marshall, and a different coaching staff the same?? You idiot. You don't deserve your job.
