What they said after loss and the reaction

Here is what the Dolphins said after Sunday's 27-13  loss to the San Francisco 49ers and my reaction:

Coach Joe Philbin envisioned making this game close and winning it in the fourth quarter:

"We wanted to play a game where we talked about winning 21-17. We thought it would be that type of game, a close physical football game. In a lot respects it was. But again, in the fourth quarter we had some opportunities to put some more points on the board but we didn’t. Obviously we were too generous. We gave them the ball on the nine-yard line on one possession. They took advantage of that. It was the type of game we envisioned. We told the team all week, ‘I anticipate that we’ll be in a position to win the game in the fourth quarter.’ I told them we had to play a clean game. This is a good football team, we had to execute well. We didn’t make the plays in the fourth quarter. They did. They deserve to win."

Salguero reaction: The Dolphins have scored 21 points only four times in 13 games this year. Sad, but truth is 21 points is wishful thinking by the coach.

The Dolphins tried to get an edge by putting running back Reggie Bush out wide so as to take advantage of a matchup against the linebackers. That advantage didn't last.

“I guess they saw some film and thought they could go 1-on-1 with our linebackers," 'Niners safety Dashon Goldson said. "They did a good job of adjusting, knew that was coming and put a DB on them. We got the best of that."

Salguero reaction: Bush averaged only 7.6 yards per reception. Not dynamic. The fact is Bush this year is averaging 7.8 yards per reception. Maybe it's time we accept the idea he's not quite the mismatch out there as we hoped.

Rookie Jonathan Martin got off to a bad start, giving up a sack to Aldon Smith early on when the NFL's sack leader basically blew Martin up. Smith finished with two sacks against Martin and the Dolphins lineman also had a false start.

“It was decent," Martin said. "He got me on that one bull rush pretty good. There is a reason why he is one of the best pass rushers in the league. He is a good player. It is a really talented defense, talented d-line. It is a tough defense, we didn’t make enough plays to win the game.

“It is a learning experience. I like challenges like that, going against guys that are the best in the league. It took me a little while to get into it, but after a while I felt really comfortable out there."

Salguero reaction: It's his first game and it came against arguably the best pass rusher in the NFL. Martin did ok. He didn't make us forget about Jake Long. It was, indeed, a step back from Long. It'll be interesting to see how much Martin improves over the next three games. So far, he hasn't made anyone forget Long.

Punt returner Marcus Thigpen fumbled a punt inside his own 10 yard line. The 49ers converted the turnover into a touchdown.

“I felt a couple of guys close to me, and I tried to take a peek at the last minute, then I looked back up and I lost the ball," Thigpen said.

Salguero reaction: Marcus Thigpen has been a net plus-plus for the Dolphins this year. He has a kickoff return TD and a punt return TD. Yes, he made a mistake. He also had a 56-yard kickoff return after the San Francisco score. I wish all Dolphins players answered adversity like that.

Cameron Wake had three sacks Sunday. He was more productive than NFL sack leader Aldon Smith.

“I didn’t even realize till just now," Wake said. "I would give away every sack I got for a winning record and opportunities that we are not capitalizing on. It is hard to contribute with that kind of stuff when we are stinking it up."

Salguero reaction: The Dolphins wasted Jason Taylor and Zach Thomas and Patrick Surtain and Sam Madison. They are wasting Cameron Wake's best years.

LOL,

So you say, 'Martin will be fine if he adds some strength to play the position'. How do you KNOW that? Why hasn't he done that to this point? He knew that was a shortcoming before, right? So what's he done about it to date? Funny but they never said that about Long coming out. He was a day one starter at LT and a Pro Bowler from Day One. So how's Martin going to do that? A little more time in the weight room? Little heavier weights? I'm saying how come he hasn't done it to date? I'm sure he's been told about it for a while now. So what's up with that?

Hey Gang, totally amazed at the comments. Do you really know anything about football? Let's get this going. 1) Jake Long has lost it-Besides the injury, and getting married, he is not the same player or has the same focus coming out of college. He is a power LT, and we have changed offensive schemes this year. We are no longer a power attack, but a zone blocking attack, and Jake Long does not have the feet for this. Read his draft bio, and coming out his feet where the major concern 2) Jonathan Martin has played in a zone blocking scheme in college, and was drafted last year to play LT. Ireland knew Long was declining, and it made no sense when they drafted Martin to play RT, he is not a Right Tackle, but a LT. So Kudos to Ireland to get a good LT. 3) Tannenhill is our QB of the future. The offensive line was giving him time to throw the ball, the problem is our WR's & TE were not getting open. No separation at all. Tanny had to over throw his WR's & TE's because they were covered or get sacked. I will not address Free Agents and the Draft in another post.

DC,

Craig Could Only Talk About The Score!!

Because He Didn't Watch The Game!! And Yes Craig!! TO MAKE A REAL ANALYSIS OF THE GAME!! YOU NEED TO WATCH THE WHOLE THING NOT HIGHLIGHTS!!

CRAIG DON'T TALK TO ME!!

YOU HAVE REPEATEDLY SHOWN HOW IGNORANT AND HARD HEADED U ARE!!

DASHI RATHER TALK TO THE BLOG SOCIOPATH!! THAN U!! AT LEAST HE WATCHES THE WHOLE GAME!!

AGAIN!!

MARTIN DID REAL WELL YESTERDAY!! EXCEPT FOR 1 or 2 Plays!! And DASHI IS THE BIGGEST JAKE SUPPORTER!! ON THIS BLOG!!

And DC said The Game was Going To be Close!! 17-14!!

And What Is Wrong With Wanting Your Team To Win!!

Dashi Thinks Before Every Game!! We Have A Chance To WIN!! AND WE ALL KNOW THE FINS AREN'T GOING 16-0!! Real Fans!! Always Want Their Team To Win!!

LOL @ LOL,

Dude has about 30 words in his post, over half of which are insults. Shows you his football intellect.

MENTAL MIDGET.....

Dashi,

Thanks for coming out bud. Back to the fridge for another beer with ya!!

For your information, I've watched the playback. I watched more than half the game yesterday too. But thanks for keeping me straight.

I agree with the poster that says Tannehill has lost his poise. He hasn't been the same since the Colts game. I'll give him another year before I call him a bust.

Am I the only one who is convinced that Dashi and ALoco are the same guy. Same drivel!!....

Here come the impersonators. I'm out guys...

Naples & Dashi. Well said by both of you! Martin DID play well yesterday & Long HAS been on the decline.

Period. Stevie Wonder sees this.

If Craig M doesn't, let him live blindly in ignorance.

Enough trying to talk common sense reality with that blob. He lives in a bubble!

THese games dont need to be examined and analyzed to see what the problem is. The dolphins only have 1 playmaker on the team and thats cam wake. They dont intercept the ball, they dont force fumbles, they dont recover fumbles, they dont break tackles and have long runs after the catch, they dont catch the ball in traffic, they dont catch the ball down field. The team is made up of solid guys that compete. No Playmakers! RT always has to drive the ball 80 yards to get a score. O and the oline is horrendous.

Need to trade C Wake for a 1st Round Draft Pick. By the time we are consistent Wake will be passed his prime.

Craig M, be gone & stay gone.

You proved your worth today which is ZILCH!

Thought you were done talking to me.....D*CKHEAD!!

Another comment you can't stick to....

Free Agency-1) Let Jake Long go, or signed him to a cap friendly contract. 2) Resigned Randy Starks-one of the best players on the Dolphins defense. 3) Resigned Anthony Fasano-Did you see his catch in the end zone, enough said, a good number 2 TE, still need another TE to stretch the seam. 4) Let Reggie Bush go-why we have a stable of good RBs. In this league it is now a passing league, not a RB league-don't waste the money there, Let Chris Clemons go-he is not a playmaker at all and that is what we need at FS, Let Brian Hartline go-great hands, but no separation-keep him as a number 4WR if he is willing to accept that contract. Let Sean Smith go. Did anyone watch the game yesterday, he has no skills at all. He can't catch, and he can not cover at all. Our front 7 on defensive is special, or back 4 is killing us, besides Jones who is our best DB by far, everyone else in the secondary is garbage.

DC and THE BLOG,

How Can Somebody!! Who Admitted To Not Watching The Game!! Say The Play calling was Bad??

When Anybody Who SAW THE GAME!! SPECIALLY THE 4TH QTR!!!

SAW THAT WE HAVE SLOW WR'S!! AND WR'S WITH NO HANDS!! AND FASANO!! IS SO SLOW! THAT HE CAN'T EVEN REACH HIS SPOT!! ON A 4TH DOWN PLAY!!

I EXPECT Egnew To See The Field!! From Here On Out!! Plus, We Need Speed at WR!!

Oh and Martin Playing Well! Gives me Hope That Fins Can Find Someone After The First Round!! To Play RT!! Or OG!! Heck, Even N.Gardner Played Real Well!!

Martin and Gardner are Serviceable as OT's!! We Need OG's!! And IF Jerry Can Come in Next Year 30-40lbs Faster(Lighter)! We Only really Need To Find a LG!!

Miami Dolphins Free Agents Targets-#1-Free Safety-Jairus Byrd – BUF.
#2-Tight End-Jared Cook – TEN, or Tight End-Martellus Bennett – NYG.

Get everything else out of the draft.

LOL,

Only One Douche!! On This Blog!

Dashi!!

Just saying! You Guys! Have Called Dashi Douchi! SO MUCH!

That Even Dashi Thought U were Referring To me! Had To read The Comments Before Where U got Insulted On By The Blind Idiot!!

CraigM,

I dont think J-Mart did anything to make people say he looked like a 1st overral pick at LT yesterday. Most are just saying as a 2nd rd "true LT" the kid really held his own.

My greatest fear coming into this game was J-Mart getting completely handed his a*ss by Aldon Smith. Yes, that did happen for "ONE PLAY" and one play only. After that, the kid began to settle down and hold his own against "THE LEADING SACKMASTER" in the nfl this season.

For this I would grade the kid out with a B-grade for the day against this season's "TOP" nfl pass rusher.

CraigM, still Im 100% with you that we shouldnt let Long walk "scott free".

Shula, you make no sense. The Dolphins dont have a WR that could start on any of those teams.

I have a great fear we will beat the Jaguars Sunday too. Henne has never had the balls to place a dagger into anyone, good or bad.

Chad Henne will find a way to lose this game against us simply because Henne never wins games he needs to win most. There's 99% chance the only way Henne haunts us in this game is by losing to us, further decreasing our 2013 draft position.

Only Chad Henne could haunt us by allowing us to actually "WIN" a game. LOL...

Lets take a look in see what they have in Pat Devlin. He has beem here for 3 years now. With the playoffs now in the shitter. It is time for a real time look to see if they can perform in a real time game.Same goes for L.Miller, Agnew, and the rest the acorns. You might have another Davon Bess in the group.

Not to beat a dead horse or anything but about Jake Long. There was someone on here around draft time that got slammed when he mentioned trading Long for picks while his value was hot. At this point he has no value and if the Dolphins keep him, "for that 1 less sack than Martin" it will cost WAY TOO MUCH!!!

When next year rolls around it will be 1 of 2 things. Long will either cost a whole lot of money or be outta of here for free agency. How is Will Yeatman doing? Anyone know?

BTW - yes it was me that mentioned we should trade him. No chance for getting anything for him now.

On another note, I am already looking forward to the draft yet still worry what Ireland will do. His history of drafting WR's is not good and that is IMO our biggest need. So I will put this out there. Just in case Ireland is reading this. ;)

Top WR's - we need at least 3 off this list. The top 3 would do just fine.

Cordarrelle Patterson
Da'Rick Rogers
Tavon Austin
Justin Hunter
Robert Woods
Keenan Allen
Markus Wheaton
Terrance Williams
DeAndre Hopkins
Cobi Hamilton
Jordan Matthews
Aaron Dobson

And 1 of these TE's.
Tyler Eifert
Zach Ertz

nickybarton,

You maybe onto something son, but, I wouldnt ltrade Wake for anything less than a 1st and 2nd rd pick. Great pass rushers, imo, are the greatest premium behind great qb.

If you have a great pass rusher, they're worth more than a single 1st rd pick. With "GREAT" being the keyword here.

And IDIOT!!

JUST BECAUSE YOU ARE A DRUNK!! DOESN'T MEAN DASHI IS!!

ALCOHOL IS ONE OF THE MOST DANGEROUS DRUGS IN THE WORLD!!

AND WITH HOW MUCH DASHI LOVES HIS BRAIN!! DON'T WORRY ABOUT ME DRINKING!

AGAIN CRAIG!!

STOP BEING A IGNORAMUS!! YOUR RADICAL AND EXTREMELY EGREGIOUS INSULTS!! MAKE NO SENSE!!

AT LEAST WHEN THE SOCIOPATHIC DOCTOR TALKS FOOTBALL!! HE IS JUST ACCENTUATING THE NEGATIVES!! AND HIS PERSONAL INSULTS MAKE SENSE!!

U CANUCK F U C K!!

Pat Devlin will get plenty reps to see what he has in next year's preseason and camp. Odds are Matt Moore will not be back next year(FA), so Devlin will have plenty opportinities to showcase what he's all about next season.

Yeah whatever Dashi/ALoco....

From the guy who said he was leaving LMAO LMAO LMAO

Can't you commit to ANY of the ridiculous lies you tell?

CHRIST YOUR PATHETIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Texas_Dolfan,

I love your wr list, I just cant see how anyone could have a wr list that long and exclude Stedman Bailey.

Stedman Bailey leads the ncaa with 21 recieving tds. Its unconsciencenable to me to make such a long list excluding him. He's easily 1 of the 10 best wr's in the nation.

Just notice I had $Ever! instead of 4Ever! in my screen name. LOL...

Craig, I exaggerated my prediction last week to hype myself up (and the fanbase). Everyone else was down on the team, I wanted to be contrarian. I knew it was a tough call. I knew it would be a hard-fought game. That said, I'm happy with the effort. Didn't see a flat team out there. Saw a lot of fire in our players. They just didn't have enough. We're not good enough yet to beat the best in the league.

The offense...I'm speechless! Tannehill...I just don't see fire in his gut. He may have all the talent in the world and all the physical attributes required of a QB but if he doesn't have "fire in his gut", forget about it! Is Sherman calling these plays? What is Tannehill doing throwing away a ball on 4th down? It's a mess!

Hey dipshyte.....you're back! Thought you were done talking to me. Geez, you're a bit obsessed with me, don't you think?

Get some help.....and change your name (again).

True YG but I personally like Tavon Austin better and want him on the Fins so I want Ireland to stay focused and not get confused. I guess I should have just listed the 3 I want. haha

Well, I guess Im out. No one really wants to talk football right now. Just catfighting.

Dashi/YG,

I see enough there to still be hopeful next year. Our problems can't be solved without another round of FA and the Draft. That and the development of Tannehill will determine what we are next year, and in the future. But I agree with Mark. If Ireland doesn't get some talent (on offense) next year, there could be another 3-5 year rebuild that would just continue our mediocrity.

He never leaves. His ego big headededness won't allow him to.

He can't leave knowing people are on his tail over how dumb he gets. It's typical behavior from him.

‘I anticipate that we’ll be in a position to win the game in the fourth quarter.’ Philbin

We've been playing like this for years! Keep it close in the fourth quarter to have a chance---B.S. I guess that was the Giants and Seahawks philosophy yesterday. Hmmmm, must be the Patriots philosophy also. Keep it close to have a chance in the fourth quarter. Johnson said it, wanny said it , Sporano said it!!! Seems like that philosophy really works. Mando , why don't you interview Philbin and ask him about this great NFL philosophy? As for Tannehill, Philbin needs to have some respect for the fans and the franchise and bench this idiot. He reads the field just like Henne. Strong arm , but can't see open players.

YG from Yesterday,

Dashi Is Turning Over A New Leaf! I Will Only(Even Though I shouldn't) Answer Back To Him and Her!! After Every 10 Insults!! And I Am Going To TRY To Be Less Aggressive Towards Other People!!

Just Remember Dashi Is Not Jesus!

DC @10:47am,

Agree with your post. Where we'll disagree is the fact that we were close to winning. We WEREN'T. In the NFL that's not close. Take a look around the league. Lots of last SECOND scores, last minute scores, OT games. THAT'S close. It was like the Lions against the Packers last night. I don't believe there was any doubt the Packers would win. Same with the last two weeks against the Pats and Niners. I don't believe the final result was ever in doubt.

NFL Draft- Let's talk draft. Our trades with the Colts & Bears do not seem to be working out because both teams are winning and they now will not be high draft picks in the 2nd or 3rd round, but hey I will take them anyway.

Another problem I see is what do we need the most-WRs & CBs-the problem now is both these positions are the weakness of this year's draft-The Dolphins bad Luck again. There are no A.C-Green or Julio Jones coming out. Here are the guys I like-Terrance Williams, WR, Baylor- DeAndre Hopkins*, WR, Clemson.-Jordan Matthews*, WR, Vanderbilt.-Ryan Swope, WR, Texas A&M. We should be able to get these guys in the first three rounds, so pick two of them.

Now to the CornerBacks- Bradley Roby**, CB, Ohio State- Xavier Rhodes*, CB, Florida State-Desmond Trufant, CB, Washington -Travis Howard, CB, Ohio State-Darius Slay, CB, Mississippi State. We need two of them and I would say round 2-4 we should be able to get them.

This is the year, we need to get playmakers in the draft. We have the picks available and we should draft 2 WRs & 2 CBs in rounds 1-4. We have 6 picks in the first 4 rounds, and would love to throw in a pass catching Tight End on top of that.

Craig "I never leave even when I say I do" M,

I am not talking to you MORON, I'm MOCKING YOU.

Get a dictionary & learn the difference!

YOU'RE THE ONE WHO WAS LEAVING YET, HERE YOU ARE! WHY CAN'T YOU EVER SAY WHAT YOU DO & DO WHAT YOU SAY!!

Man of your word? LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

Texas,

I like your WR list too. Only thing I'd disagree with is this idea that we'll be adding three guys from that list. One for sure, two maybe. I believe the team will try and resign Hartline, add a relatively cheap solution in FA like Jennings and draft a kid. I still think you need to see more from Moore and Matthews before drafting more WRs.

Texas_Dolfan,

I would like to find a way to get 2 really good wr's out of this draft. One of the top ones on your list and still grab Stedman Bailey.

I dont really get it because he has 21 tds and has been a wr force his entire starting college career. But I've seen him rated as a 3rd rd slot wr.

Still I would love it if he were still around(if experts preditions are correct) 3rd rd and immediately snatch him up.

Because 21 tds to me, suggest this kid really has a nose for the endzone.

Naples,

The Bears were 7-1 at one point and are now 8-5. They have the Packers this week and I expect they'll likely lose again. I don't believe their pick will be all that low. Be surprised if they finish with 10 wins.

I believe the team will try and resign Hartline, add a relatively cheap solution in FA like Jennings and draft a kid. I still think you need to see more from Moore and Matthews before drafting more WRs.

Posted by: Craig M | December 10, 2012 at 10:53 AM

So, Greg Jennings will be relatively cheap? What planet are you living on?

Sorry, I don't think the majority of people with eyes need to see more of Marlon Moore dropping deep passes or coming in exclusively on running plays.

The guy is garbage & only on the team for ST's.

In the macro sense Craig, the team over-exceeded your expectations. 5-11, best (realistically) case scenario they end 7-9. Just like '09-10. Right back at the beginning, I know, it's frustrating.

But I feel it's different because of the HC. I'm hoping his direction helps Ireland find the players we need. And that he can develop Tannehill into a player that can win games like yesterday. I didn't have that hope with Sparano and Henne. We'll see...

finfan23,

I didn't say 'cheap'. I said 'relatively' cheap. READ SON!! As in 'he'll be cheaper as compared to Mike Wallace and Bowe'.

Reading comprehension....it's a wonderful thing!

CraigM,

Texas_Dolfan wr list shows exactly why I dont want to draft a pass rusher 1st rd. Even if we cant get T'eo. Our defense is good enough to win games. Our offense cant find the endzone.

At least 3 wr's on Texas' list should go 1st rd. That's why if we cant get T'eo, we should trade down, to pickup an extra 2013 2nd and 2014 1st rd pick. Then still be able to get one of the top 3 wr's in this draft.

Then having "3 2ND RD" picks, we can easily add a 2nd wr and draft a pass rusher if you wish. Then the inabitlity for our offense to get into the endzone would be fully addressed. Maybe we add another TE too.

Guys U see What Dashi Is Talking About Ignorant Insults From Craig Moron!!

Everyone Here Knows!! Dashi and A loco!! Hate Each Other!! (Unless U are Trying To say Something else Craig?)

So Let's make Ignorant Statements About The Dashi!!

GIVE IT A BREAK FOOL!!! U Sissified Maple Leaf!!

YG, Dashi is Trying To Keep His Cool! But The Idiot Keeps Wanting Dashi To HUMILIATE HIM!! Also, Noticed The Change($) Yesterday. Just Didn't Want To Say Anything! Because Then The Troll Would have gone on A Rant!! That U Are Flipping Names! Even Though He Does It 24/7! Not saying That U do!! LOL!

In 5 years Ireland can't find any depth at lb or cb? Trusnik is the best choice we have when a starter goes down? Kaepernick made him look stupid on that td run. You just know Ireland will once again let the team & fanbase down with more questionable talent evaluations.

How is Greg Jennings going to be even close to "relatively cheap"?

Reading comprehension? Jennings & any kind of cheap is an absolute improbability. he's gonna command $6mil + per year.

How is that REALTIVELY CHEAP? Talk about reading comprehension! I asked Santa to send you a dictionary for xmas. You need it!

It's time Joe and Sherman are fired. 17 points a game ain't gonna cut it.

YG,

I'm not opposed to that idea. No question the offence needs help. It screams that out every game!

Only problem is that Cam Wake is a one man show. This guy gets hurt next year and kiss the season goodbye. You've got to have more of a pass rush than what we have. There will also be games where Wake is shutdown. There are good WRs in the second to be had (it's actually a deep draft for receivers) and I believe we can add someone in FA, at a reasonable price.

CraigM,

As for seeing more from Moore and Matthews, that's type of strategy has never worked very well for this team. If clearly you see better talent available, it's best to go get it.

Neither of these two guys are high draft picks. So there's better chance they'll always intermiddently flash at you, but, hardly ever wear a continous shine.

Neither are worthy of foregoing better available talent to wait on thier development.

Long has been getting manhandled like that week after week for 2 years, and obviously it's not the league's best rusher every week either.

Craig the wrong fan in Canada is wrong, as usual.

DC is right.

Dashi,

Calling you aloco or any other bame is Craig's Textbook play!

When he is confronted with how dumb he is, he ALWAYS accuse someone of being an alias, a Jet Fan etc...

That's what sissy's do. Name call, tattle tale, come up with any lame explanation to deflect from the main issue.

Main issue is, that clown is a dolt.

Naples list is horrible. Tuner from Tennessee and receiver from Cal are better.

finfan23 (who's name has just magically appeared on here....cough! cough!!),

How do you KNOW what the market is for Jennings? Have you polled the GMs in the league? The guy's 29 years old and has been injuted a lot of the last couple of years. Yes, I would do a two or three year contract with Jennings at $5mil a year, which REALTIVE to the money that Bowe, Wallace and even a guy like Welker are likely to get is CHEAP.

Care to respond to that one, smartass????.....

Fin fan,

U and The rest Of US!! Don't Need To See Marlon Moore Dropping Passes!!

BUT CRAIG DOES!! HE DOESN'T WATCH THE GAME!!

YET!! KEEP TALKING MORON!!

NO WONDER CRAIG DOESN'T THINK DANSBY IS THE MAIN PROBLEM WITH OUR DEFENSE!! HE DOESN'T WATCH THE GAME!!

AGAIN!! The way Martin And N.Gardner Look Yesterday Gives Me Hope!!! We Don't have to draft a OT Early!!

We NEED LB'S! FS!!!!!!! AND CB'S!!! WAY MORE THAN WE NEED ANOTHER D-LINEMEN!!

And On Offense!! We Need WR's, TE's, and a LG!! way More Than anything Else!!
