Revis to the Dolphins!!!: Not

Late Wednesday afternoon, the reports about the Jets exploring the possibility of trading cornerback Darrelle Revis started to emerge. And by Wednesday evening my twitter timeline was punctuated by questions about Revis to the Dolphins.

After all, Revis has been the NFL's finest cornerback and will likely return near that perch when he recovers from his ACL knee injury.

After all, the Dolphins need help at cornerback because they traded away Vontae Davis, and Sean Smith is going to be a free agent, and Richard Marshall was a free agency bust in 2012 due to a back injury.

Sooo ....

Revis to the Dolphins, right?

No.

If the Jets are willing to trade Revis to a division rival, they are more than merely dysfunctional. They're crazy. The last time that kind of trade involving the Dolphins happened -- Wes Welker to New England -- the general manager that made the deal got fired within the year.

Teams hate trading within the division because it is frought with dangerous repercussions that nobody wants to absorb.

The Jets, by the way, are dodging the issue today. New GM John Idzik today dodged the issue of whether or not New York really is thinking of trading Revis.

"I think it’s way premature to say anything specific,” Idzik said. “I haven’t even had the chance to sit down and thoroughly vet through our roster with Rex [Ryan] and our personnel staff. So I think it would be presumptuous to say anything."

The Dolphins, meanwhile, could use someone of Revis's talent in the defensive backfield. It would be awesome. But it would be extraordinarily expensive in the form of compensation to the Jets and then compensation to the player.

Revis is out of contract after 2013. The number commonly associated with his looming contract demands is 16 -- as in million per year.

Moving on, folks.

Yeah, we're getting Peyton Manning too.

Dashi,

GREAT POST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It absolutely refutes the idea of drafting a DE with our 1st pick.

(DE)Cam Wake, 15.5 sacks. (DE's) Odrick and Vernon combine for 8.5 sacks opposite Wake.

24 SACKS FROM OUR DE POSITION. I'LL PUT THOSE NUMBERS UP AGAINST ANY DE SACK TOTALS IN THE LEAGUE. WITHOUT RESEARCH, IM PRETTY SURE THAT'S TOP5 OR VERY CLOSE.

Again, great post dashi! LOL...

Yesterday,
I think it's easier to find corners that excel in zone coverage. That's why I don't think we pick a corner with #12 pick. And that's why I also think Smith has played his last game for the phins.
We need corners that can close on the receivers quickly and cover underneath routes well.

Jones and Clemons had Pretty Good Seasons!!

But 90+ Tackles Each Means They Were Covering More Field!! Than Most Of Us Thought!!

A lot More Field!!

I think we may offer Flacco 18 mill/yr. But that probably wont be enough for him to go from a SB team to the cespool .

Armando took you to the "woodshed" son. Shut up and accept it! LOL....

---------------------------------

You need to take your own advice, Mr. "silly and drunk."

Armando schooled those canadiens, yes?

The Wes Welker mention is what caught my attention on this writing. It may be true trading players within the division maybe a mistake, but what has he won really there. Stats. Those are for losers and that's what he is and the arrogant team he plays for. The Giants twice and now the Ravens. As for Ray Lewis apology not accepted. The wife too much of a woman and you are not even a silhouette. Listen extra midget you'll never get there again and much less win one.

YG,

I CONTINUALLY MAKE MY ARGUMENT!! DANSBY!! SUCKS!!

AND THE D-LINE IS NOT THE PROBLEM!!

But Some Here Still Want To Cry For A DE!! or D-Linemen When They Are The Strength Of Our Defense!! We Have 5-6 Good D-Linemen If You Add Misi!!

We Barely Have 2 OK LB's!! And Definitely Don't Have 1 Impact LB!!

Give Zach Thomas This D-Line!!

No Other LB's!! No Misi!! No Burnett!! Just Zack And These 5 D-Linemen!! With Clemons And Jones At Safety!!

Bet We Will Stop People On 3rd Down Or After Turning The Ball Over!!

Posted by: BoulderPhinfan | January 24, 2013 at 03:29 PM

You absolutely get it man! You can easily find these type corners 3rd to mid 5th rd. We do have two 3rd rd picks and a 4th rd pick to do this.

They may not be shutdown corners, but we should be able to find a corner or two that can do what you suggested. Who knows when you'll just get plain lucky?

HENCE:

Richard Sherman

#25 Cornerback
Seattle Seattle
Height: 6-3
Weight: 195
Born: Mar 30, 1988 - Compton, California
College: Stanford
Draft: 2011 - 5th round 23rd pick by the Seattle Seahawks

5TH RD "SHUTDOWN CORNER". LOL...............

NOT ONLY IS RICHARD SHERMAN A 5TH RD PICK. HE WAS THE 23RD PICK OF THE 5TH RD. LOL.............

Look If You Don't Want To Admit!! That We Need A Better MLB!!

At Least Admit We Need A Impact OLB!!

A Great LB!! At #12 Is More Important Than The 3rd Or 4th Best DE!!

Plus!! LB's!! Cover TE's!!! And RB's If They Are Fast Enough!!

And If You WATCH Dolphin Games!! You Know The Fins Can't Cover TE's!! Even Slow Ones!!

WHOMEVER SEATTLE'S GM IS, WE NEED TO OFFER HIM "$16 MILLION A YEAR" TO COME TO MIAMI! LOL...

Wasnt Nolan Carrol a 5th round corner, how that work?

If The Sissy Runs A 4.5 At The Combine The Fins Should Still Go After Him!!

SEATTLE'S GM HAS FOUND A PRO BOWL QB(3RD RD RUSSELL WILSON 2012) AND A SHUTDOWN CORNER(2011 RICHARD SHERMAN) IN "SUCCESSIVE SEASON.

HE HAS TO EASILY CURRENTLY BE THE BEST GM IN FOOTBALL "RIGHT NOW". LOL....

HIS NAME IS JOHN SCHNEIDER......................

Dashi now that it came out that T'eo like the stiff rod, I think you may be able to grab him in the 3rd round. Too big of a story and distraction for anyone to take him in the first or 2nd round. I mean, how many places would T'eo be able to fit in? Miami is one, SF is one, NY ... other than that?? Def not Green bay or Pittsburgh, haha

No mention of Mike Wallace?

Revis? Even Ireland ain't that stupid. Is he?

Revis has been an is overrated, good player but not great, certainly not worth one number pick let alone two or 16 Million a year.Look People we could use some DB help no doubt however if we would have got just average qb play this past year we would have made the playoffs, that is the truth. Also you can't overpay for corner backs because if you don't get enough pressure it doesn't matter who your corner backs are.

Clue,

I said the Seahawks got Sherman(all pro shutdown corner) in the 5th rd. My point is that you never know when you can get "lucky". LOL....

Seahawks gm has had 2 huge hits 2yrs in a row with Sherman rd 5 and Wilson rd 3.

Armando would be a better GM then Irescum.

As far as Te'o, I would be mildly surprised if he falls further than 2nd rd. Especially since the "culprits have come out and amitted their dasterdly deeds".

I believe since this has happened, Te'o will still be in play in the mid 1st rd. He doesnt fall because of the negative publicity. He now only falls because of the negative play in the championship game.

The "confessions have "vindicated" Te'o. It now proves he was only "highly naive". But whatever team he lands on he will get a high degree heckling from high fellow teamates. Everyone will be looking to "play jokes" on him to test his "naivity". LOL...

Lets Get Lowballin!!!

Even the culprits have confessed Te'o played no part in an "elaborate hoax". He's exonerated as far as Im concerned. He's now only exposed for being one heluva gullible fish!

Thats about it, end of story. LOL...

Armando: sure, in theory the Jets giving away their best player to a division rival (Dolphins) would seem nuts BUT let's be realistic here. The Jets are rebuilding. They aint going anywhere! If they're willing to let go of their top player, then they have no plan to be serious contenders next year. Therefore, the Dolphins shouldn't be their concern.

No doubt about it, a division rival like Dolphins will have to pony up A LOT for Jets to consider it and sell it to their fans.

Uhm, you have read the report on ESPN today, right? It's been revealed that the person he spent 1000's of hours talking to was a man ... he isn't stupid ... he's gay.

2 watt's 28-0 post says it all. on point.

T-eo is Bozworth. Pancake flat on his back. Bust. Out of the league in 2 years.

I also dont understand where you guys are getting this "heshe" stuff about Te'o.

It was a guy "posing to be a woman" online. Tell me one person here that concern who's male or female even in this blog? When hiding behind a keyboard, one can tell you anything. Can you see them?

Gosh, some of the stuff some here make up its just illiterately stupid!

And as far as this Revis conversation goes, I think the more realistic discussion has to be whether the Jets would trade away Santonio Holmes $9M cap hit or let Keller walk if he gets a $7-8M offer. These two players are much more in play for Miami. Revis will be the cheapest of the three players for NY to carry next year at $6M. He's staying ...

jets are a mess, have to love it

Go to ESPN man, it isn't online stuff exposed today, it's phone calls ....1,000s of hours ... with a man.

Retardomongul In Toronto @ 4:09,

See my post at 4:11 PM. You add legitamacy to why I now call you:

RETARDOMONGUL IN TORONTO! LOL......

Mark,

The Story Is More Personally Humiliating Than What It Will Do To His Draft Stock!!

It's Not The Mattieu Story!! Te'o Was The Victim!! Not The Perp!!

And OK! Not Te'o!! Any Other LB!! Than What We Have!!

Better LB's!! At #12!! Than DE's!!

And Te'o Needs To Worry About His Speed!!

That Is What Is Going To Drop! Or Raise Te'o Right Now!!

Te'o Runs 4.4- Low 4.5!! He Is A Top 10 Pick! Hopefully #12!!

Te'o Runs 4.5- Mid 1st Rd Pick

Te'o Runs 4.6- 2nd Rd Pick

4.7 Or Slower!! Te'o Is A 3rd Or Lower!!

The Story Is Not That Serious!!

In The Spectrum Of Real Life!! Or Character Issue!! This Is A Non Issue!!

It's Not That He Knowingly Had A Fake Girlfriend!! Te'o Got Tricked! By Some Internet Troll!!

Retardomongul In Toronto,

The culprits posted a picture of a "real woman" to dupe Te'o idiot! LOL...

db, u ever visit canada.?
lol

Dashi, re: t'eo. Victim? he's no victim ... he's a homosexual. And that's uncovered ground in the NFL. Tough to measure. I wouldn't spend a top round pick on the most notable gay player in the NFL - not because I'm judging - but because of the many obstacles this guy would have to pass. If you need a LB bad enough - forget T'eo in the first and just draft Ogletree - he's an awesome coverage LB. exactly the guy you keep harping for...

Mando, thank you for doing this blog and for your insight.

You should NOT lower yourself to interacting with the garbage posters on this blog (including myself), who lack your knowledge and who joke around a lot or are stupid or drunk.

This includes Craig M, YG, ALoco, Mark in Toronto, etc.

Don't lower yourself to responding to them.

Jerry Rice is clearly gay.

jeff garcia

The following former NFL players are done:

1. Noodle Arm Manning
2. Jake Long

2watt,

I will only visit Canada when I feel the Great USA isnt screwy enough for me. LOL...

IF WE WERE THE SAME POSTER HE WOULD NOT HAVE STATED IT LIKE HE STATED IT. DONT IDIOTS EVER TIRE OF BEING IDIOTS? LOL...
Posted by: Yesterday's Gone 4Ever! | January 24, 2013 at 01:17 PM

Seems like from what the writer said you were in a football blog last night until dawn talking to one other person about something unrelated to football and we're the idiots? I hope everyone apologizes to this clown, he's not ALoco, just a very lonely sad person. Our mistake.

Retardomongul In Toronto,

Please dont let "real facts" get in your way. Seems you never do anyway. LOL...

At least when players are fighting for a fumble Teo wouldnt mind a couple of players grabbing on his balls. LOL

Get your real facts now at:

P.S. "KEEP THE CHANGE"! LOL.............

but YG, what will you eat the rest of the month? Food stamps only go so far, I hear???

retardomongulintoronto@marcia.wemakeitup.com,

BUH-BYE!...................... LOL.......

Regarding gay players, isn't it inevitable one or more will 'come out' in the not too distant future? I think it is, and would totally support them.

Look, it's not exactly a secret there are gay professional athletes. As a matter of fact, I can think of two who played for the Dolphins (Marv Fleming and Keith Sims) who didn't hide their sexual preference even if it wasn't common public knowledge. Were they ostracized and harrassed by their teammates? There's no indication of that whatsoever, and we're talking about YEARS ago.

I don't think many people under the age of 40 really care about this stuff anymore, and those that do--why? Sure as heck doesn't affect my life in any way and I think all people should live freely as they choose.

Is Te'o gay? Don't know and don't care. It has zero bearing on how I would view him as a person or player. If it bothers someone else, I think maybe THEY'RE the one with the real problem. It's time we grew up about this stuff and put hatred away.

To bad Matt Moore isn't under contract. Matt Moore for Revis Anyone?

To bad Matt Moore isn't under contract. Matt Moore for Revis Anyone?

Posted by: Pete G | January 24, 2013 at 04:55 PM

==========================================

You actually think Moore has that kind of value?? Um, no.

Please return to Earth soon.

yeah pete g im sure the jets would do that, lol

tony, I agree with you 100%. I could care less if my friends came out or if I have to work with someone who's gay. As a matter of fact the audit team we have in here right now has about three gay people in the crew.

BUT ...

the average football player is not perceived to be rational, are they? As a GM, you have to consider how this guy would fit in with his teammates. Now as I said, Miami or Sf or NY would be three of the places that would suit him best as they are three of the most forward thinking places as far as people's sexuality.

I personally look forward to the day when the first openly gay athlete in north american teams sports come through and breaks that barrier and we can finally put this silly topic to rest. however, it will be a big burden on the man who does it. in a lot of ways he will have to be Jackie Robinson who admittedly wasn't the best black baseball player but was the one with the best mental stuff to be able to break that barrier. Judging by T'eo's latest antics, I don't think he's that guy. he's running away, trying to cover up.

Too bad. I was hoping this would be the guy and break the last stupid barrier.

Black coaches, black qbs, russian hockey players, black athletes in general ... all these myths have been de-bunked. This is the last obstacle in finally breaking all myths.

mark u arent born gay, those other issues u are born that way. thats what holds people back

dusty,

You aren't born gay? Tell me more....

Interesting theory. I don't believe it for a second but whatever.

lol didnt think u would. get out your......well nevermind. not going there how bout them canes last night destroying duke and now stealing one of fsu coaches for football who recruits like a sob
