Late Wednesday afternoon, the reports about the Jets exploring the possibility of trading cornerback Darrelle Revis started to emerge. And by Wednesday evening my twitter timeline was punctuated by questions about Revis to the Dolphins.
After all, Revis has been the NFL's finest cornerback and will likely return near that perch when he recovers from his ACL knee injury.
After all, the Dolphins need help at cornerback because they traded away Vontae Davis, and Sean Smith is going to be a free agent, and Richard Marshall was a free agency bust in 2012 due to a back injury.
Sooo ....
Revis to the Dolphins, right?
No.
If the Jets are willing to trade Revis to a division rival, they are more than merely dysfunctional. They're crazy. The last time that kind of trade involving the Dolphins happened -- Wes Welker to New England -- the general manager that made the deal got fired within the year.
Teams hate trading within the division because it is frought with dangerous repercussions that nobody wants to absorb.
The Jets, by the way, are dodging the issue today. New GM John Idzik today dodged the issue of whether or not New York really is thinking of trading Revis.
"I think it’s way premature to say anything specific,” Idzik said. “I haven’t even had the chance to sit down and thoroughly vet through our roster with Rex [Ryan] and our personnel staff. So I think it would be presumptuous to say anything."
The Dolphins, meanwhile, could use someone of Revis's talent in the defensive backfield. It would be awesome. But it would be extraordinarily expensive in the form of compensation to the Jets and then compensation to the player.
Revis is out of contract after 2013. The number commonly associated with his looming contract demands is 16 -- as in million per year.
Moving on, folks.

Armando
Welkers situation and trade to NE absolutly has no barring on what would happen if revis was traded in division. Nobody(EVEN YOU) and I mean nobody here in their right mind when welker was traded to NE had any true knowledge of how impactful welker would have in NE's offense.(thanks in large part of having one of the best QBS in the league today)
Its not like welker was blowing the walls down in miami with all his playmaking talent when he was here but knowing what type of player revis is and how he is considered one of the best CB's in the league to let him walk to a division rival is just Insane and would then tell you more about how NEW YORK has truly fallen apart as an organization.
It makes no sense unless a colossal deal was offered and miami is not one Great CB away from competing for a title or rather a playoff spot next year.

It's a weak draft. The only wise thing to do would be to trade some of our extra picks for higher picks next year.
Ireland doesn't have until next year though, so unfortunately he will have to waste them on sub par players. It's not his fault the draft is weak, but he will be blamed for having a weak draft.

After a solid-if-unspectacular rookie season, "Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland stated that Ryan Tannehill still has a "long way to go."
Ireland has "a long way to go" himself when it comes to evaluating offensive skill-position players. It's been a glaring weakness throughout his Dolphins GM stint and held back Tannehill in 2012. "Accuracy, ball placement, getting the ball out faster and tempo," were the areas to which Ireland pointed when discussing where Tannehill must improve as a sophomore NFLer."
This is hilarious. Our GM has been nothing but incompetent & here he has the nerve to criticize Tannehill??? Is he serious??? He's the f#cking moron that can't find WR's, TE's, & RB's How about getting the kid someone to throw the ball to or finding a starting RB that costs less than $4.5 Million & doesn't disappear for two months during the season.
And then he goes on to praise Egnew??? "...I have a high regard for him. He's gonna have a good season, I feel real confident about it." No he's not. He's not even going to make the team. This is the same sh#t he said about Gates. Ooops...Did it again.
WTF is wrong with this guy??? I'm confident that Ross will regret not firing Ireland last year after he f#cks up another FA & draft.

We Need Playmakers,
I think you're taking Ireland's comments all wrong. He's simply saying Tannehill needs to improve. If your read between the lines of his comments the other day he is also saying HE needs to improve too.
I realize you're not an Ireland fan but you're over-reacting a bit, no? What SHOULD he be saying about Tannehill?

Playmakers,
Haven't you heard?
Philbin and Sherman obviously had to sign off on the Egnew pick...
Couldn't be on Ireland.
Wait, I seem to recall Sherman, on Hard Knocks, telling Egnew he would cut him -
“Terrible, terrible,” offensive coordinator Mike Sherman was shown scolding Egnew in front of seemingly the entire offense. “I would cut you today if I was the general manager. I would cut you.”
That didn't just come across as a shot at Egnew, but a nice dig at the GM.

Revis just purchased a home in Miami...and would be willing to take less to play here on a incentive loaded contract..he agent is actively negotiating his release from the Jets. The Jets save $$ and Revis gets his wish to play in Miami. This will happen.

When Armando's radio gig ended, I was positive in discerning a certain amount of **SOMETHING**..........shall we say.......Lacking?
Well, I'd like to take this opportunity to say:
**No Longer**
===============================
In my humble opinion, Armando is "On Point". He's been cranking them out like THE "Days Of Old". Not just volume-wise either.
These recent entries have been excellent reading, excellently insightful and most noteworthy/newsworthy!
In summation, This is "MY" Armando cranking em out with an apparent renewed sense of urgency and ehthusiasm! It's unmistakable that he's been **MONEY** on these recent Posts and Articles!
=====================================
(That wasn't a very good summation) What I should have said was this:
**WELCOME BACK** Armando.
I don't know where you've been or what's been "Going On". But I do know:
**It's Good to have you BACK**
Valhalla!!!!

THE MORE I WATCH THE WR CLASS THIS YEAR THE MORE I LIKE THEM.
I WILL GO ALL ROOKIES AND BITE ANOTHER YEAR.
MY FIRST 3 PICKS
ALLEN (CAL)
HUNTER(TEN)OR PATTERSON(TEN)PERFER HUNTER
AUSTIN (WVA)
WE GET ALL THREE AND PAY LESS THAN 1 WALLACE.
STAY AT 12 FOR ALLEN..
PEOPLE TALK VALUE WHICH I THINK IS STUPID. EVEN IF SOME SAY HE IS AT BEST A 24th PICK I WILL GET HIM AT 12.
TRY TO TRADE THE LATER 2 AND 3 TO MOVE UP TO 24 TO GET HUNTER. EVEN NEXT YEAR's 4.
STAY WITH THAT EARLY 2 AND GET AUSTIN.
OH AND PICK UP FINLEY
NOW INSTEAD OF TRYING TO DEVELOPE MOORE AND THOSE GUYS BYE.
WE WON't HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THEM GETTING OLD.
WE HAVE A KICK AND PUNT RETURNER.
WE STILL HAVE BESS THEY CAN LOOK AT AS THE VET.
ALLEN BESS FINLEY HUNTER
AUSTIN AS THE 4th AND SPECIAL TEAMS

I read yesterday the Phins recently gave Long what he considered a low ball offer for an extension. Jake, come on man get real...you haven't even finished the season the last 2 years and your play has been with a doubt declining. Ask yourself this Jake..what is the going rate for an injury prone player on the decline?
Posted by: dadsmithwest | January 25, 2013 at 07:26 AM
Really J.C ? WR's the first 3 picks???I can seee 1 pick on a wr in the first 3 rd's but there are too many other holes to try to plug in the early rounds. We have failed to get a db in FA,all FA busts, need to get some young blood there.LB or end is a prob too, need more pressure on QB or someome quick enough to set the edge and make them turn into the teeth of the D.OL later, maybe ireland can prove himself and FIND a PLAYER there.I think he needs to start finding GEMS in the later rd's to ever start to begin a legacy of his own.
Posted by: P.a yuengs-n-wings | January 25, 2013 at 07:27 AM
I would not draft 3 WR's but the Phins could use 3 WR's. Or 2 if they resign Hartline. I wouldn't mind a Wallace, Hartline and Best WR available at 12. I like Swope but not at 12 for sure. It would be great if Ireland could find a way to get that guy later in the draft.
Posted by: dadsmithwest | January 25, 2013 at 07:52 AM

Armando, if you want to know how "confused" he is, ask him about if we should win and make the playoffs or if we should lose and that would be the best thing for the team...LOL!!! Kris could tell you a few things about that one...Another classic...
Posted by: #1 Dolphin Fan in Montreal | January 25, 2013 at 08:40 AM
Revis talk for Dolphins is overblown but corners will undoubtedly be targeted by the team in FA and the draft. Towards the end of the season, the play of corners Dimitri Patterson and Brian McCann sparked positive comments from the coaches.
McCann is an RFA and should be resigned. Patterson's contract at $4.6M, if the Dolphins elect to keep him, will probably be reworked. The team has another $5.8M due Richard Marshall. Both Patterson and Marshall are recovering from injuries. Nolan Carroll, Julian Posey and De’Andre Presley won't be missed. But what about Sean Smith?
Recently, Jeff Ireland stated his preference for "big corners." Will he ignore the facts... that Smith has hands of stone; doesn't recover fumbles; makes fewer tackles than other corners; doesn't react well to the ball in the air; covers poorly in zone; and resign him anyway? At big money? 2012 was not Smith's best year but keeping him at more than 2% of the Dolphins cap could be a costly mistake.
Posted by: billcale | January 25, 2013 at 08:43 AM
I WOULD RATHER TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM THEN TO KEEP PATCHING IT UP.
SF WAS REALLY BAD UP FRONT. WHAT DID THEY DO?
ONE YEAR FIRST PIC LT STANLEY.
NEXT YEAR FIRST ROUND GUARD AND CENTER.
PLUG IN HOLES AFTER THAT BUT FOUNDATION SET.
N.E NEEDED TIGHT ENDS SAME YEAR 2 WERE PICKED UP NOW THEY DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THAT FOR AWHILE.
WE JUMP AROUND.
DRAFT LONG THEN EVERY BODY ELSE ON THE LINE WAS WASHED UP.
SO NOW LONG IS GOING WE HAVE 2 YOUNG GUYS A BUNCH OF NOBODIES.
WE HAD TWO CORNERS BUT THIS IDIOT TRADED ONE FOR A LATE 2nd.
WE HAD A TOP NOTCH WIDEOUT BUT THIS SAME IDIOT TRADED HIM FOR A 3rd.
WE COULD HAVE KEPT HIM AND ADDED SOME TOP 2nd TIER WRs
YES I WILL PICK THE 3 BEST WRs AND DON't HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT IT AGAIN.
AGIN WE DO NEED ALOT BUT THAT's THE MOST IMPORANT POSITION ON THE FIELD AND WE DON't HAVE A GOOD ONE REGARDLESS OF WHAT YOU THINK.
PASS, RUSHERS, CBs, O-LINE, TEs ALL TRUE WE DO NEED THEM
HOWEVER THOSE GUYS OUT THERE THAT CAN WIN A ONE ON ONE BATTLE TO GET OPEN THAT's WHAT THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS TO HAVE ON A TEAM.
THE BEST QB IS NOTHING WITHOUT A WIDEOUT THAT CAN't GET OPEN.
BUT THE WORSE QB WILL BE GREAT IF HE HAS A WIDEOUT THAT GETS OPEN EVERY PLAY.
Posted by: JUSTIN CREDIBLE | January 25, 2013 at 08:45 AM
Anyway, I`m sure he'll respond some bs to this, he always does...You won't get a reply from me because I have a life, unlike you who spends an entire day (and night) on a football blog...So have fun pretending you know it all and telling everyone your usual bs...The smart ones know you're a complete idiot...LOL!!
Posted by: #1 Dolphin Fan in Montreal | January 25, 2013 at 08:46 AM
Most WR's are open at some point,it's if the QB can see it and get the ball where it needs to be.Not sure just yet if we have THE guy.
