Complete list of restricted free agents according to NFLPA

A few years ago the New England Patriots identified a restricted free agent they truly liked -- thanks to a recommendation from a friend of Bill Belichick named Nick Saban -- and they went after the player.

No, they didn't end up signing Wes Welker as a restricted free agent. But they did work out a trade for him with the Miami Dolphins.

That was 2007. Restricted free agency has seen precious few players changing teams since then despite the success Welker has had with New England. The fact is as draft picks have become more valuable (based on the fact rookies now make less) fewer teams are willing to give draft pick compensation for players that will also come with new contracts.

Nonetheless, the NFL Players Association collects the list of players that do not have four years in the league but are out of contract as restricted free agents.

The very next time I read a blog, Hopefully it doesn't disappoint me as much as this particular one. After all, Yes, it was my choice to read through, however I truly thought you would probably have something interesting to talk about. All I hear is a bunch of whining about something you could fix if you weren't too busy seeking attention.

Good morning, all. I know the rottin stinkin Jets are in salary cap hell right now, which would make it easy to sign Keller or another FA that we may have our eye on. But does anyone know The Bill's cap situation? I've looked it up on a few sites, and it varies by a large margin. Jarius Byrd in our secondary would be a major improvement.

All I know is that if they don't stop Flacco and he can deliver with that huge arm and extreme accuracy he has, SF is going to lose.

Irescum has never drafted a good playmaker in his life. What makes anyone think he can now?

The Dolphins are very good at one thing at least...getting the very least out of future Hall of Famers. Cris Carter, Bill Parcells. Wish we could get HOFers at the beginning of their careers (instead of the end).

Philbin says that Devlin is his kind of QB. Less arm than Flacco but smarter and more accurate. Ufff!

Our franchise QB will depend on THill if he can change his ways(lackadaisical, high-strung). If he can't do it, Devlin will be our QB.

Devlin? LMFAO!! Oscar

Great Post. Bill.

Avg 2012 Cap hit-10 best paid TE = $6.6M (10th=$5.2M)
Avg 2012 Cap hit-10 best paid OG = $6.7M (10th=$4.0M)
Avg 2012 Cap hit-10 best paid OT = $9.4M (10th=$6.4M)
Avg 2012 Cap hit-10 best paid WR = $10.2M (10th=$8.2M)
Avg 2012 Cap hit-10 best paid CB = $10.0M (10th=$8.3M)
Avg 2012 Cap hit-10 best paid LB = $10.0M (10th=$7.4M)
Avg 2012 Cap hit-10 best paid S = $7.8M (10th=$5.0M)
Avg 2012 Cap hit-10 best paid DT = $8.8M (10th=$6.7M)
Avg 2012 Cap hit-10 best paid RB = $8.3M (10th=$6.0M)

Sort Of Sets The Market. See How You Left Out The QB. Good Since We Don't Need To Look At Qb! For The Next 3-4 Years!

TE To Much. $6-5 Mil For A TE! Crazy Talk! I Will Not Give D.Keller $5 Mil! Or J.Finley!I Wouldn't Even Give Fasano $3.5M!

OG & OT! Are At A Good Price. Jake And Levitre Are In The $10-$7M! Dollar Range! But We Can get A Good Veteran OG! For $4-5M. Resign Jake! And Sign A Top 10 OG For $4M!

The Wr And CB Market Is To Expensive For The Talent! That Is On The Market! No WR or CB! Should Get $8-9M! A Year! Even Wallace!

The LB Market Is Also To Expensive For The Talent That Is There! For That Keep Dansby For 1 More Year! But Agreed! With Odin! Kuechly Would've Done Damage In A Fin Uniform!! A MLB IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PLAYER ON DEFENSE!! LOOK AT THE SUPERBOWL FOR PROOF!! Now, This Is Where Dashi Would Go On A Mini Te'o Rant! For The #12 Position! Specially Over A WR! Or A O-Line! But After The Debacle! That Fathag Better Run A 4.5! If He Wants To Be A Dolphin! Now A.Ogletree? If He Runs A 4.4 or An Alleged 4.38! He Should Be The Fins First Round Pick! Will Fix The Huge Problem That The Fins Have Nobody To Cover TE's! Or Run Sideline To Sideline!!

Ogletree, Dansby, and K.Burnett!! With Misi Moving Back To DE!!

On The Safety?

Dashi Says Resign Clemons! J.Byrd Might Be A Better Safety! But For Half The Price! You Keep The Safetys Together! Which Is Important! Keeps A Player In The System For More Than 1 Year! Plus, Clemons Had 30 More Tackles Than Byrd!!

On The DL! Resign Starks! Force The Decision Next Year! Keep Soliai Or Odrick?

But Right Now! Starks, Soliai, And Odrick Are The Dolphins Run Defense!! And Moving Misi Back To DE! Gives The D-Line Enough Depth! To Not Address It In Free Agency Or The Draft Early!

Doesn't Mean Don't Draft A DE, If The Value Is Right In The 3rd Or 4th!! Go Right Ahead!

On The RB's! Reggie Isn't Even Worth $5M! Nevermind, $8-6M! L.Miller Is A Better RB! and We Can Find One In The Draft! That Doesn't Run Scared! Like Reggie!

From What I've Said! You Can Take Away The Fins Draft Needs! Should Be!

1- LB
2- WR
2- CB
3- WR
3- RB
4- DE

You keep on LYFAO, LMFAO. We here do not write ANYTHING until we have a great degree of Certainty about it.

Great to see Bill Parcells in the HOF. Possibly the best football mind of our era. Congratulations Bill.

A pansy but great Coach.

Tannehill looks way below “average”. After watching him in both college and pro, I have no idea why he was picked in the 1st rd. Is anyone surprised that Ireland brought us another Chad Henne? They better draft another QB or offer 18 mill to Flacco.

On Free Agency As A Whole!

We Set The Market!!

The Fins And 2 Other Teams! Are The Only Teams With More Than $10 M! To Spend!! The Reason Ireland Wants The Players To Test The Market. He Knows He Has The Game Monopolized! This Offseason!!

Expect At Least 2 Big Free Agents(1 WR 1 CB)! On Top Of Our Own Resigns!

In case you Youguns don't know it. Devlin was more accurate than Flacco at Delaware.

dc we do, marino, stephenson, taylor etc

dashi u have no clue on who has what to spend. teams will cut a ton of guys and many teams will then have plenty of cap space

Do you really believe that even if the Ravens do not win this SB they will let Flacco go? Franchise.

flacco is 100 percent a raven after this year. he will be franchised or sign long term deal

Yeah, dusty, then we can get all those guys. go phinsss

In his first season with the Dolphins Parcells leadership transformed the 1-15 team they inherited into a 11-5 playoff team, and the AFC East division champions.

Biggest turnaround in NFL history.

Yeah, Sparano then proceeded to fukkk it all up.

sparano was awful. but parcells got lucky playing easiest schedule in nfl history and pennington being cut. remember parcells had signed mccown to start for us

..Dashi. The corner market is wide open. In fact the most over-rated guys are the top money dudes. Guys making, or in Sean Smiths case. Asking for the most. I posted this yesterday but it was deleted? My post was that CB is a spot we have to explore. It is not a wait and see sort of position. Arguably, we are as thiner at corner then wide reciever.

I did some diggging. The 3 criteria were they had to be URFAs, play + 550 snaps, and have a positive rating. The reason for the plus 500 snap criteria is simple. We need outside corner guys. guys with less snaps suggest injury, or nickel-dime guys. Anyway, there are plenty of guys out there that are upgrades. Here are some.

Chris Houston.. 931 snaps +7.4 rating
Pac Man Jones 607 snaps +11.1 rating
Sheldon Brown 816 snaps +7.5 rating
Keenan Lewis 943 snaps + 3.2 rating
E.J. Biggers 816 snaps +3.4 rating
Joselio Hanson 571 snaps + 4 rating

Seans Smith played over 1000 snaps..That is very impressive. The problem was he was one of the lowest rated corners in the league. Sam Shields who is a RFA is the best corner who could be avaialble. He has the highest snaps to rating qualifier out of any of the free agent corners.

The corner market is deep. It is only small if you narrow your search to the bigger name guys.

Candidly, you might ask BP what his biggest mistake during his career was. Candidly, Im pretty sure he would reply, Hiring Sparano as the Miami Dolphins HC.

Tannehill? Really. Give it 1 more year and philbin will be regretted as a coach, and tannehill will be considered a bust. With the new rookie pay scale it is owner friendly to draft another qb. Besides tannehil was garbage in college, no wonder he was used as a wr. He was drafted only because his ties to mike sherman, ex-packer coach and Ross wamted him thinking he'd sell tickets. Haha, see jamarcus russel, matt leinhart and brady quinn, etc…..

Some of you guys go really deep into this stuff. Good. I like to Learn.

Sparano was doomed as is Philbin with Irescum at GM....

Ah, yes, Brady Quinn. That would be the same Brady Quinn that many of you were screaming for just a few years ago because of your player assessment skills.

Don't even try to deny it.

The fact of the matter is that nobody here--NOT A SINGLE PERSON--has even the slightest clue how any of these kids will or won't develop in the NFL.

I know you can't admit it. But it remains the truth. And WILL remain the truth.

Yeah, I knew Ireland was surfacing here sooner or later.

You Vegas Mike? Under no circumstances bet on SF Today.

i put a large sum on the under, got in at 51. down to 47.5 now

Tannehill wouldnt have even started for his college team Texas A&M last year with Manziel there. He’d be a WR.

Heck, Brady Quinn is far better then any QB on our roster.

Man, you really have some balls. Wish you Luck.

So you got one at the 4th at Gulfstream. Good. That's a mighty difficult Track to handicap.

Johnny Manziel is not NFL ready, and might not ever be.

btw, there is a pick6 carryover at Gulfstream going on for > $1,500,00 now. For 0.10 cents you could get it. For those who like easy money. HoHo!

The NFL Won't Be Calling | February 03, 2013 at 11:40 AM

There is NO BIGGER "Question mark" than how a QB will translate to the Pro game, it's the biggest hit or miss Pos. to scout and draft, it also is a GREAT help if a QB is drafted by a team that has the right Coaching staff to develop his particular skill set.

RE: Miami of Ohio QB Big Ben who blossomed under Bruce Arians because when Wisehunt was with him they were a running team those 13 wins his rookie Yr. have a BIG ? next to theem given the D, OL and Run team Cowher had before the Pats ran them out of their own Stadium.

I can go back through the last 30 Yrs. and give you example after example.

In 83 K.C. took Penn St.'s most prolific QB in terms of #'s in Todd Blackledge and the guy was out of Football in 2 Yrs. How about Mich.'s Chuck Long in the mid 80's with his rocket arm??

You move into the 90's were teams started scrutinizing the Pos. harder and few better than S.F. and they took V Tech SUPER athlete Jim Drunkenmiller #1 (Guy out bench pressed some OL at the combine and could throw it a mile)

In 05 it seemed every team was ready to pass on Aaron Rodgers because he was another "system QB from Cal" like predecessor Kyle Boller when in fact #1 overrall selection Alex Smith was the system QB in Utah under Urban Myer's spread attack.

I could go on and on but the truth is you NEVER know if a guy has it upstairs or not when the playing field is leveled talent wise and the D scheme isn't so vanilla were he needs to read before reacting, it's why it's the most scrutinized Pos. in Sports.

I for one given what he had to work with and limited NCAA exp. wasn't over nor underwhelmed by Tannehill given there were times I thought he made the right choices with the Ball but to sight Brady Quinn as your prime example is making a black-n-white statement in an enigma full of grey area.

I wouldn't count out Manziel. The kid's a winner. Might not have protypical size but the kids are great athletic talent. There's a lot of people who doubted Russell Wilson too. I wouldn't doubt this kid can be a good new player.

If Manziel wont make it then Tannehill doesnt have a chance in hell!

Good GM's can spot good QB's more often then not. With a guy like Irescum it is a total crapshoot...at best!

Sorry I was out for most of the day yesterday. I've got the Niners winning big today, something like 34-17. Better team all the way around. The only caveat to this is if Kaepernick plays 'jittery'. I haven't seen that from him so far but if the Ravens defence can contain him and confuse him the Ravens have a chance.

I'll go with the better athletes in a lop-sided Super Bowl. I think the Ravens bubble is about to burst.

Manziel is no Russell Wilson, Man. A dull Tack.

I know it's been talked about on here already but it looks like the Jennings to Miami talk has a very real chance of happening. Interesting to read some of Jennings comments yesterday. I think this is the move that makes the most sense. Now, will we end up paying through the nose for him? I don't think so. I believe Jennings will be quite a bit less expensive than Wallace when it's all said and done. I'm still in favour of also drafting a WR in the first or second round (likely second). That's where the home run is more likely to come from....and at a much cheaper price.

Thanks for the thoughtful response, fin4life. It's all too rare here.

I stand by what I said, though. ALL of us at times probably think we have some special ability to assess players/coaches/personnell people, etc. but in truth we really don't.

Our "connection" to the game is no closer than planting our butts on a couch and watching on TV. We will never be invited to a draft room. We will never be part of a coaches meeting. We will never break down film. We will never be part of a scouting process that gathers information we will never be privy to.

I think it bugs some people to be reminded of that, but it remains no less true. We are outsiders to this process and are CONSTANTLY wrong about myriad facets of it, but we also have the luxury of not being penalized for it and often come down with convenient amnesia about how laughably wrong we most often are.

A guy like Jeff Ireland? Well, the truth of the matter is that he's an AVERAGE NFL GM. His number of hits and misses are right in line with most of the others, and that can be statistically proven (and has been). Does that make me a fan of his? Nope. I don't like his personality and would always strive for better than average.

But that said, there are NO magic wands or pixie dust with this stuff. Examples? How many of you thought Scott Pioli was a Boy Wonder just a few years ago? How many feel that way now? How many thought Parcells would bring some magic? And now?

For that matter, the same Rick Spielman who did such a lousy job with Miami? Well, that SAME Rick Spielman was named NFL Executive of the Year just a few years later in Minnesota.

We do not have the answers. We never will. How many of you are capable of just admitting that?

We'll see. Like I said, people have doubted Russell his whole career. There's a reason he didn't go until the third round. If he was a 'slam dunk' he would have gone first round for sure. GMs got this one all wrong and it'll be interested to see if they screw up on Manziel too. I like the kid a lot and see no reason why he can't be a good NFL QB.

Life is good. Just splurged and bought a 51" tv for the SB and I'm am sitting here watching my son set it up..lol.

Now if the Dolphins were playing.....hmmm. Maybe before I die.

Also interesting to read about Flacco. The talk is he wants to paid in the neighbourhood of what Brees got this year, roughly $20 mil a year, with $40 mil guaranteed. Good luck with that!!

If I'm the Ravens I franchise this guy and pay him around $14 mil a year. He's not even worth that. If some team comes along and want to sign him to a long term deal you take the two first round picks that come with it. I'm impressed with what this kid has done but he's not one of the best. I'm a Ravens fan, this is what I hope happens and if he gets snapped up someone who has to give up TWO number ones, then I trust the top level personnel department will find his replacement.

Signing him to the kind of contract he wants will SEVERELY tie the Ravens hands to improve the roster going forward. They'd better consistently hit on their draft picks, cause no way will they be able to keep their FAs or sign others.

That should have said, 'IF I'm a Ravens fan'....

I'll go with the better athletes in a lop-sided Super Bowl. I think the Ravens bubble is about to burst.

Craig M | February 03, 2013 at 12:36 PM

You know I agree but we seem to be the minority opinion listen like I posted yesterday I would like to see Ed Reed go out with his ring aside from the feel good Ravens stories but the 49ers are younger faster and more talented at this point even though I can't recall two more similar teams outside the QB Pos. playing in a S.B.

Everybody is talking about how Kaep won't be able to run and the read option will be rendered useless and he's going to fold ect...

The Falcons 2 weeks ago did just that before the 49ers went Power Ball on them forcing the Falcons up opening the pass game, my point is they can do it from a variety of ways. I don't think it will be a blow out but feel the 49ers win this one and I guess we will see at about 10:00 PM who was right.

Dolfan Rick,

Congrats, man.....NOTHING quite like watching NFL football on a HD big screen TV. Hope you enjoy it.

Personally, I think the game will be a dud. But we'll see.

craig flacco has def shown hes worth that

LOL @ 12:41....

I hope you saved that to a word document.....cause it appears that the only delusion person on the blog is you....we discuss FOOTBALL here...PERIOD....

nobody is claiming to be a GM....or even scouting material...this is a release...for lack of a better word....

save this post too....and read it before you get the urge to post the NONSENSE you posted @ 12:41 for the MILLIONTH time....Geeesh...we get it already......and our feelings aren't hurt....

I expect to hear about it for months afterwards on here if I'm wrong.....so be it.

That's just what it feels like today. Ngata could have a big effect on the game today but I just believe that SF will able to run the ball outside or pass when necessary to beat the Ravens. When you talk to Niner fans, that's their biggest fear (Ngata). Hell of a player!!

I just think SF is younger and more athletic and on the fast surface that will win out at the end of the day. We'll see.

Kris, SOME people discuss football here and SOME desperately try to sound as if they are experts at it. They aren't.

Not sure which category you are in, but it's meaningless either way.

And just a reminder: I'll post whatever I damn well feel like posting here. Thanks.

Kris @12:52PM,

Right on. That's EXACTLY what I thought when I read it. We're hearing to give opinions. We don't get paid for any of this stuff. So who cares.

So because we won't get any of the stuff the guy talked about, we shouldn't post? Bizarre!!

Strange stuff man......
