Dolphins talk contract with Bush's representation

It's been an on-going drama (among fans) this offseason whether the Dolphins want running back Reggie Bush back or not. And part of the narrative is that the team has not shown Bush any love because they didn't offer the former Heisman Trophy winner a contract during the season or even in the weeks after the season.

Guess what?

In the last week the Dolphins and Bush's agent Joel Segal discussed a deal for Bush.

So there is interest by the Dolphins to retain Bush.

But how intense is that interest?

As I have reported and is apparently confirmed by Miami's approach, the Dolphins have a price set for Bush. The team wants Bush. But the Dolphins want Bush at their price.

What does that mean?

It means the Dolphins are comfortable with the idea of having Lamar Miller take the reins as the lead back. Bush, according to general manager Jeff Ireland, is seemingly more suited to a third-down spot or some role slotted as a receiver.

"You’d love to have his skill set on the football team," Ireland said. "I mean Reggie has a unique set of skill sets.  He’s been a receiver, he’s been a primary running back.  So I definitely see a role for that type of skill set."

How Bush would be used exactly is a coaching question. Whether he'll be available to be used is a personnel question and on that front the personnel department's price point for Bush doesn't seem to quite rise to the $5 million per year Bush has been averaging the past couple of seasons -- not when he's not certain of being the lead back.

Bush, meanwhile, obviously wants a raise.

So where does that leave everyone?

Well, the Dolphins are interested in Bush. To a degree. His representation is interested in getting Bush back to Miami -- but only if the price is right for them.

Seems they have more talking to do or will need the market to help set parameters for Bush's next deal.

.
You spewed the same nonsense about Henne for 4 years. How'd that work out for ya? LOL

Tannehill is not henne dude that's like saying you are smart

Why am I banned

Henne sucked big time

You people pissing on this guy as if he's some kind of horrible burden to the team are genuine nitwits. Hartline is NOT part of the problem with this team.

=============================================

Well said and I agree totally. Tannehill missed him on 4 OBVIOUS TD's. And I saw those from my living room. I'll bet if I had "Coaches Game Films" I'd find more.

I'm not knocking Tannehill, at that time, he was a very inexperienced ROOKIE QB.

I'm just saying, those 4 misses ALONE defeat YG's argument(and anybody elses in my opinion). Just THOSE 4 TD's put Hartline ahead of Wallace, Jennings and Fitz statistically speaking.

Hartline's and adequate No.2, and excellent No. 3.

On top of that, we need SOMEBODY to count on starting this year. Our Free Agent signee should start right away. But NOBODY really knows if the WR we draft will be ready day 1.

It's too chancey of a proposition and we need SOMEBODY to lend some stability to a very shaky unit. In my eyes, that's Hartline and that should be his role. Holding down the fort until our Rookies get up to speed.

Are you saying a rookie QB with a porous oline and a weak Bush lead running attack missed some TD opportunities last year?

How many TD's did Marshall catch on our team?

Sometimes it's the player, sometimes its the team. Once we got better QB play, Hartline's play got better. He is a legitimate #2 receiver, good hands, not a problem child. Worst case scenario he is #3 and gives us some depth and experience.

I'd much rather have Hartline and Starks over the MIA half the season Bush. Bush proved he should only be a 3rd down back. I'd rather draft a RB with a higher ceiling then have his inconsistency back on the team.

need hartline back along with a big time free agent wr

This time of year everybody is always talking all the sexy picks.

I go over those picks and positions, but I also LOVE to find "Hidden Gems". I know it's risdiculous to call 300 pound offensive Lineman Hidden Anythings, but here's Two of mine!

Chris Faulk*, OT, LSU
Height: 6-6. Weight: 325.
Projected 40 Time: 5.19.
Projected Round (2013): 2-4.
============================

Oday Aboushi, OT, Virginia
Height: 6-5. Weight: 310. Arm: 32 7/8. Hand: 10 1/2.
Projected 40 Time: 5.09.
Projected Round (2013): 3-4.
============================

If we could get these two with our second 3rd rounder and our 4th, I'd do it.

Faulk is a 1st round talent that will slide big time because of a 2012 injury.

Aboushi is a MONSTER that only needs the weight room and reps!

Wouldn't it be nice to finally have our O-Line set for the next 6 years?

If Philbin thinks Jennings still has it, bring him on, use the top pick for BPA, with the 4 picks in rounds 2&3, use two for WR/TE.

Yeah, exactly what this team has been missing. A $7 million dollar a year #3 wr who only scored 1 td when he was a #1 wr.

The more bs I read here, the easier its getting to force myself to become a fan of another team who's fans have more of a f u c king clue.

Do you guys mother come in and turn on your computers for you? I cant figure out how you idiots manage to acomplish even that much on your owns. Geesh!

I'm all for overloading talent in the TE and WR positions. Get me Swope in the 3rd round or sooner that guy has "it" and is familiar with both Sherman and T-hill.

I wonder how many buttons and how many times you press the those wrong buttons, before you finally by sheer luck I suppose, finally find the "power on" button to turn on your compueters.

Geesh, some of you take stupid to unforeseen levels. LOL....

Even Swoop is an upgrade to Hartline. LOL...

Bs? You mean like your call that Stanzi would be the prize QB of his draft? Is that the kind of clueless dumb bs you are talking about?

What about your call on Teo,, was that bs? Or is it only bs when YOU are not on the bandwagon?

What about your bs that anyone suggesting defense with the first pick is an idiot? Is that the bs you are talking about until you change your mind again to pick defense?

Yesterjerk

Can you enlighten us on why you are the only blogger allowed to change your mind and still be wrong, yet not be considered an idiot?

Yesterjerk

Can you provide the blog with a list of NFL pro's who consider your opinion worth more than toilet paper?

Until then....

But fools like you change names every other post, still leaving your fingerprints, because your name changes but the exclusively stupid bulls h i t that you endlessly post never does.

Its total bs post after bs post, regardless of your endless name changes. I would posts under endless aliases if I were as f u c king stupid as you too. LOL...

Name changing toilet scruby, and this is my last post in life to you. Te'o will still be a 1st rd draft pick. Why cant you see how incredibly worthless and stupid you are? LOL....

Doesn't Keenan Allen need knee surgury right now? So thats 2 in two years?

Yesterjerk

If we are all such idiots...what does that make you who comes here every day?

Remember the old adage, a man can be judged by the company he keeps.

OMG ........PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE SAY THAT YOU WILL DO THIS SOONER RATHER THAN LATER

IF IT MEANT KEEPING HARTLINE AT 7 MILLION A YEAR, I WOULD TOTALLY TAKE THAT OVER YOUR WHINELESS POINTLESS BANTER DAILY

PLEASE YEAST BOY, PLEASE SAY YOU'LL DO THIS BEFORE NEXT YEAR!!!!

Te'o will still be a 1st rd draft pick. Why cant you see how incredibly worthless and stupid you are? LOL....

That is quite a change from saying he should be our first pick, like you giggled on for weeks to no end, only to turn around later and laugh at anyone else suggesting we pick D with the first pick.

What da fuh be yo problem, boy? You are a total nut case!

YesterGiggles,

You need to look in the mirror and see what we all do. A person that ridicules others for having the same opinion you had only two days ago, or will have two days from now!

You are a pompous fool with no more knowledge or insight than a garden snail.

No Tip,

Your dead wrong. His Highness does not make royal stupidity judgements like that.

And im sure all of his Economic and Business degrees made in crayon form from elementary school would also confirm that to a tee.

Take the best players period

Since YG is being crude and insulting, I guess it's Fair Game. No?

----------------------------------------------

Tip, lets not forget this gem from YG:

Tony SpOrano will be the MOST sought after Head Coach in the NFL if he leaves Miami!

Bhwaaaaaaaaaaa Haaaaaaaaaaaa Haaaaaaaaaaaaa!

So YG would have SpOranus as his head coach and Ricky Stanzi as his starting QB!

And he's going to be rude and crude, questioning others intelligence? OK Bud, keep Em coming.

(PS: Any comments on Tannehill missing a wide open Hartline on at least 4 TD's? How is that superior QB play? Shouldn't Hartline have at least 5 TD's?)

Are you avoiding THESE legitimate facts YG?

Oh yes, thanks for the reminder!

One of the MANY YesterGiggle idiot ideas I forgot about - YG saying Sparano would be the most sought after coach in the NFL

I wonder why he never calls himself an idiot?

..I don't understand the idea that Hartline would get anywhere near close to mil a year. There are only 5 recievers with base salaries for 2013 with salaries over 7 mil a year..It isn't happening. Even Calvin Johnson is only being paid 5 million next season. Go to spotrac.com and you can do some reasearch for yourselves, and see what every receiver(non free agents) will make next year.

Hartline can ask for whatever he wants. His agent is going to make a high asking price. But what is the real price? Lets say Hartlines mustache is asking 4 million a year..That would be an outrageous amount. But within that number is a real number where the negotation begins. The team will probably counter with a number around 2.5, 3 at max. Hartline would be crazy to refuse that kind of money. He may not even get that. Look at the recievers with similar base contracts. I'm not sure Hartline is even in that class. Now there are a bunch of guys that are grossly overpaid. There are more that are underpaid(still on rookie contracts)..

Anyway the thought that Hartline would even come close to 7 million dollars isn't worth debating. It just isn't happening.

Darryl,

I would ignore the numbers thrown out there. Both sides are gaming the situation.

Anyway the thought that Hartline would even come close to 7 million dollars isn't worth debating. It just isn't happening.

====================================================

Darryl,

The 7 million dollar number is just what YG's throwing out there to help his argument.

When in fact, YG knows the real numbers from Hartline and his agent. I know this because me and several others have told him repeatedly. He refuses to listen, because the real numbers alone almost negates his argument.

For the record Darryl, Barry Jackson reported the initial/original numbers proposed by Hartline and his agent. To open talks, his agent requested a 6 million dollar deal. At the same time, he made a secondary offer for a 5 million with alot of incentives.

The point being, if Hartlines agent proposed 6 million to begin with, it certainly won't be more than that. In fact it will be well below that.

The 7 million is just a number YG is making up to help his argument. I see Hartline getting around 4 million with some incentives.

..Coindola..I haven't seen any numbers from Hartline. I'm just commenting on a post that suggested the team would pay Hartline 7 mil a year. I have debated Hartline is worth keeping, but a lot of folks here think he is going to get some crazy deal.

What I did was look up the salaries for every wide reciever in the NFL for 2013. Again minus the free agents. These are the Base salaries for next year(they don't include bonuses) I looked at Hartline, and where I thought he fits into the salaries of say the top paid "number 2 recievers" (whether he is a 2,3,4..whatever. I'm just trying to get a feel for what he may get)...That is where I came up with the 2.5-3 million. Even this number is high. But being that he is a free agent coming off a 1000 yard receiving year..I went high(IMO)

We will see. I would bet my number is much closer to 7 million, even the 5 that I keep hearing here. Look at the guys making 5 million in base salary for 2013 and tell me Brian Hartline is going to get that anywhere.

Odin

Exscuse me sir?? But are you trying to state that sparano is not in the best position ever with one of the most steller organizations known to grow football legends in Jamarcus Russel and Carson Palmer as star QBS in the tradition that is the Oakland Raiders.

How dare you question his Royal Highness!!!

..Odin..WHAT UP!!!! Long time no football talk(See football talk).

Hartlines agent may be asking for Brian to get a private jet, or his own midget butler on road trips. It is part of the negotiation. Your number 4 mil a year seems high to me. You could be right. but i just spent a better part of an hour reaserching every base salary of every wide reciever in the league. Yes there are a bunch that are over paid, no doubt.

The difference is that even the guys that are overpaid, recieved compensation with the idea they are number one recievers. There are a few #2 guys that are on teams that have a great pair or tandem of recievers that got this money. But with the exception of a few bad contracts. There aren't many #2 recievers making 4 mil a year in base salary.

Now, if the team thinks Hartline can be the second part of a dynamic "tandem, or duo" Perhaps he will get this sort of money. I just don't see it. His agent knows Hartline isn't a 6 million, even 5 million dollar per year guy..But he has to ask, just as I said..To get to the real number.

Odin wouldnt know a winner if it fell on his face , proceedeD to take a dump in his mouth and had him S H I T T I N G out 1000 dollar bills the next morning

His agent knows Hartline isn't a 6 million, even 5 million dollar per year guy..But he has to ask, just as I said..To get to the real number.

====================================================

Whats Up Darryl? MS Contin(60mg)and Oxy-Codone(20mg)for break through. Add in a Little Bourbon and I'm "Alright"..........(I think?)..........

I'll go with your "Reaserch" over my own estimation. I was using 4 million as a medium to help inject some perspective. Some sorely needed perspective in this case.

I'm not as sold on Hartline as most probably, but I see him playing a role and filling a very important need.

I think we'll sign a free agent WR and draft a Rookie high(I would use my FIRST-2nd round pick if the right guy is there). With a 2nd round rookie WR there is no guarantee that he'll be ready to play from day 1. He has to learn a new offense and learn to beat the jam from some of the NFL's BEST CB's.

YG is proposing we start at least one of our Rookie WR's. I just feel thats a fools bet without a contingency plan. And Hartline would, IN THE VERY LEAST, be my contingency plan. **AGAIN** - provided we can get him signed for a reasonable amount of money.

You know we really need to stop and think about what our real number for free agency is. Everyone gets excited and says we have 40 million. Well in truth you subtract 5 million for injuries the franchise player at 8-10. Hartline, Fasano, Starks then the money for the rooks and you start to figure out we really have about 18 million for free agents maybe even a little less than that.

We are going to get two impact players, maybe a declining big name that gets everyone warm and fluffy.

Go Dolphins!! Everyone better lower expectations.

6 of the first 11 teams in the draft order needes Offensive Line help.

1. Joeckel

2. Warmack

3. Fisher

There are more with a 1st round ranking, but theres also a noteable drop off after Fisher.

I said that, to say this, Miami will NOT be taking an offensive lineman with the 12th pick. No way, no how........it just ain't happening.

So there, that's the first step in narrowing down what Ireland will actually do. We can count out offensive lineman, guards and/or tackles.

It's also safe to cut out any thoughts of a QB or RB as well.

Now......I said THAT, to ASK this: Counting out OL, QB and RB, what exactly is the priority order for the 1st round pick? Any guesses? Educated guesses?

Eifert ran a 4.6 - 40?

GREAT! Thats probably just enough to put him out of reach to us - For Shore! He probably wouldn't have lasted until our second round pick anyways, but now it's a certainty.

That's OK, Fasano is solid and Egnew! Egnew is a Jeffy Fav! Jeffy will be pulling hard for what was supposed to be "The Steal" of his first solo draft(dripping sarcasm).

Say It Ain't SO!!!!

Keep in mind, lets not forget the obvious....we see things from afar, through the eyes of media writers who get paid to write and not scout or evaluate players. We can see Ireland and Philbin are working together. My point is...we HAVE NO IDEA what they think about any of our players. We have no way to know what there true assessment is. They work with them and train them on a daily basis. They know their habits, attitudes, and abilities far better than we think we do. In the end I will trust their assessment as to who they keep or not, and who is worth the price they are asking or not.

Overpaying a little bit is no big deal, its just what you have to do to build a team and keep it together.

You'll never win the trophy paying everyone at fair market value, some will be overpaid, some will be underpaid.

Eifert is a late 1st/ early 2nd rd pick. Even if Fisher is gone I think Lane Johnson could be our pick. Maybe we get a CB if Milliner is there or another CB blows up the combine but I think OL is the pick otherwise if we stay at 12

We are going to get two impact players, maybe a declining big name that gets everyone warm and fluffy.

Go Dolphins!! Everyone better lower expectations.

==================================================

This is what I have believed from the begining. We need to sign our own and then target just TWO free agents. These TWO have to be considered impact players too(like Marsahall and Dansby were **CONSIDERED** impact players)or simply forget it.

We obviously need to get one of the WR's.

The second free agent is the question mark. Is there a CB available that would be worth signing to a free agent deal?

Should the second free agent be a defensive player(I think he should be)? Shoulod he be an offensive player(I wouldn't be opposed)?

I would like to see us get the WR and then a starting Corner(if thats even possible). Then, if money allows, an offensive lineman that could at least compete an offer quality depth.

I would kill for Ireland's job! I could get us over the .500 hump with the ammo available this off season. If I can do it, Ireland "SHOULD" be able to............right?..........he should........shouldn't he?.........You Guys?.........

WoodShed,

Lane Johnson is the next highest rated Lineman.

He's interesting too. He's only started two seasons at Tackle(right and then left, I think). So you could call him inexperienced.

**EXCEPT** - The season he didn't start at tackle, he played Tight End and Defensive End. This is a testament to his athleticism and to how well he would probably fit into the Zone Blocking scheme.

Most were considering him a late 1st, early 2nd round pick. Then he tore it up at the Senior Bowl. Minus some catastrophe at the combine, this cements in as a 1st rounder.

Having said all this, I still don't see him being picked as early as 12th. I don't know anything more than anyone else, so I'm just guessing of course. But I see an early run with Joeckel, Warmack and Fisher. Then a break on lineman until around the late teens to early twenties.

I could see us taking a lineman as long as it's one of the top 3. But if Johnson's the next one up, I think we'll go elsewhere.

Cheers!

One of the olinemen ran the fastest 40 ever for an olineman today at the combine. I don't remember his name, but his draft stock is going to go way up. There will be an elite oliner available at 12 if we don;t sign Long.

Coindoila,

Probably Johnson. He said he has ran in the 4.7s before. This kid would make people forget about Long quickly AND he would be way less expensive! One of the biggest problems IMO with our offense is that we just didn't have guys that could block well enough in space to utilize T-Hill's speed. I see Martin and Pouncey as the two guys that are keepers but we could improve in that department everywhere else.

It was Terron Armstead, I just looked it up.

John Jerry is a bull. His game is coming around. It can't be all finesse. You need sheer power at times. I think he is a keeper.

to Mika-Donna Wallace!

Wow on Armstead, 4.65 in the 40 is incredible. FTR, Lane Johnson ran a 4.72 which is still extremely good. I'm going to have to research Armstead a little more to see where he might be available.

The more bs I read here, the easier its getting to force myself to become a fan of another team who's fans have more of a f u c king clue.

So I guess your call that Sparano would be the most sought after HC wasn't bs? You mean to say you have a clue?

Obviously not. Time for you to go stroke it and hope the goo lands in your mouth.

odin spending another Saturday nite on a football blog. Sad.

Paying much attention to the combine always results in huge draft mistakes. If scouts ignored the combine results they would have much better drafts. Too often a great player shows poorly or a guy shows great that cant play a lick.

Mike,

These guys are pros. They dedicate their entire lives to it. They see everything you see and 100 times more. These combines serve a purpose to know the players personally. 99% of their decisions is based on their tape on the field.

Absolute hogwash...

What you say is hogwash?

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported Saturday on "NFL Total Access" that Bush is unlikely to be re-signed by the Dolphins, who view him more as a luxury than an essential building block.

Bush's representatives met with Dolphins brass earlier this week to get a feel of the situation. Bush wants to remain in Miami, but he also wants a competitive multiyear deal. The two sides aren't matched up.

The Palm Beach Post reported that Bush's tendency to dance in the backfield "frustrated" the Dolphins last season. That said, Bush remains a dangerous player when healthy, and he'll land on his feet somewhere. It just won't be in South Beach.

BYE BYE REGGIE!!!

WELL MY YEAR LONG CAMPAIGN FOR MIKE WALLACE IS PAYING OFF TO THE POINT THAT HE IS THE DOLPHINS PRIMARY FA TARGET. NOW IRELAND MUST CLOSE THE DEAL AND BRING THIS SPEEDSTER TO S BEACH. I KNOW HE MAY NOT SIGN WITH US BUT AT LEAST THE TEAM KNOWS THAT SPEED ON THE OUTSIDE IS TOP PRIORITY. IF WALLACE HAS NO PROBLEM PLAYING HERE THAN IT SHOULD BE A WRAP! CINCY HAS SAID THEY WANT TO FOCUS ON KEEPING THEIR FA FOR THIS YEAR AND NEXT YEAR AND ARE THUS FAR NOT REALLY SHOWING INTEREST IN WALLACE! THEY CERTAINLY DO NOT WANT TO UPSET GREEN BY BRINGING IN A WR AND PAYING MORE AND TAKING AWAY HIS DEEP THROWS!! NO WAY! THIS LEAVES CLEVELAND AS THE ONLY TEAM WHO CAN COMPETE WITH THE DOLPHINS IN BIDDING FOR WALLACE!! THIS WILL LEAVE THE DECISION UP TO WALLACE!! DO YOU WANT TO PLAY FOR COLD WEATHER CLEVELAND OR S BEACH! LAST TIME I HEARD A STAR ATHLETE HAD THAT SAME CHOICE? YOU KNOW THE ANSWER TO THAT! DON'T SCREW THIS UP JEFFY AND YOU WILL HAVE UPGRADED YOUR OFFENSE TO THE POINT TO WHERE NOW YOU ONLY NEED TO KEEP YOUR BEST FA(HARTLINE,BUSH,STARKS& MAYBE CLEMONS) DRAFT A GOOD TE AND PASS RUSHER AND TWO GOOD CORNERS AND NOW THE DOLPHINS ARE SET TO IMPROVE 3-4 MORE WINS NEXT YEAR EASY. GET THE DEAL DONE AND THE FANS WILL COME BACK!
