« Dolphins history with free agency? Not great | Main | NFL Combine this week -- the invitees (with video) »

Live blog chat here at 2 p.m.

There's plenty to talk about the Dolphins as they prepare for the Combine next week.

So this is a good time for a live chat.

I'll be here at 2 p.m. and if you are here, we can discuss the team. If you cannot be here then, leave your questions or comments now and I'll address them. You can check back later to see my response to your comment.

Topics on the table:

All free agency -- Miami's own and those about to be cut loose by other teams.

The draft. Who fits. Who doesn't. Miami's needs.

Anything else that comes to your mind.

Before anyone asks: The team has said the new logo will be unveiled in April. So that's out of the way.

Bonfa...I don't consider 29 going on 30 that big of an age concern and he has missed as many games as Ray Lewis his first seven years. I don't believe anyone has the ability to predict injuries for any player or when their skills deteriorate beyond the point of being decent.

Bonfa,

Polian misses on a lot of draft picks too. Do I need to rythmn them all of for you?

There's a reason his team went 2-14 a year ago and he was fired from the job....and please don't use the Manning excuse. Polian isn't the God the media makes him out to be. He makes mistakes too and the reality is that Mike Wallace makes this team better. If you don't believe signing high priced FAs is the way to go, I can respect that, but please don't tell me Mike Wallace is an 'average' receiver. His results since coming into the NFL suggest that and there will be a market to sign him, REAGRDLESS of what one man thinks of him. I guess what you are saying is that these other GMs who will go after Wallace know nothing then?

Just say we sign Jennings over Wallace and he get a hammy that lingers all year long and Wallace goes nuts as a Bengal lets say 12 Tds 1400 yards and Jennings score 4 Tds and 700 yards what will this blog look like when it's all said and done!!!!!!!!!fire Ireland fire philbin Ross is and idiot now tell me if I'm wrong or right,,,,,that's why you go for the best playmaker

wallace is the man. bengals dont pay anyone, they wont do it on wallace either. for what its worth nfl network has browns, miami, and san diego as front runners for him

Its not too late to fire Ireland before the upcoming draft.

Wallace is a stud he's like a race horse very high strung but fast as hell

marc,

I don't believe there's a CLEAR answer on who the best player is. I heard all this when we added Marshall three years ago. We weren't any better in the won/loss column. This isn't fantasy football....it's about winning games. There's nothing that GUARANTEES we'll be better in the won/loss column. What you're give us is opinions....nothing wrong with that.

Having said all that, I think where we're at, we need to take a risk and spend the money on either Wallace or Jennings. Sitting on our hands and doing nothing would be the mistake.

This is Jeff's last chance if he screws this up he will never get another job anywhere

I totally agree Craig I'm all in

no doubt im all in also. but we could def be a better team this year but still have same record. your never see a easier schedule then the one we had last year

dusty,

The Bengals have about $52 million in cap space. They will likely look to spend on Andre Smith and Michael Johnson but I believe they'll look for a target opposite Green. With the Steelers and Ravens both looking to be on the downslide, NOW will be the time for the Bengals to be poised to do some big things. They have a very good offence and an excellent defence. I believe they'll make a splash in Fa this year. Let's see who's right.

Ireland is in over his head. How can Ross ask for stadium money without firing Ireland?

Wallace brings a lot to a team with a QB like Roethlisberger. Will he work well with Tannehill? Well, Big Ben's average time to throw is well in excess of Tannehill's. Big Ben and his "play extension" provides for a lot of that. And at the end of those extended plays, he often is looking for Wallace downfield. This is NOT the kind of play that either Philbin or Sherman want to see. If they did, Matt Moore would have seen more game time. Plus, Wallace is not a good fit for a WCO.

dusty,

Your last point isn't even CLOSE to being accurate. We had the 14th easiest schedule in the league last year. So we weren't even close to having the easiest schedule. In fact it was average.

Craig

I'm saying he is not worth his price tag. That's my opinion. That is why the blog is here. Some GM's will agree with me, others will pay him the money.

Does Wallace even possess the route running skills that Philbin's offense requires? Some say no.

p.s. Typing in CAPS does not make anything one says any more true.

This is the biggest offseason I can ever recall ,,,maybe even bigger than the one we signed kieth Jackson,Irving fryer ,kieth Byers , I am so stoked

Wallace would hate going from Big Ben to TanneBust. He'd have to get a ton of money to do that. LOL

With the Steelers and Ravens both looking to be on the downslide,

???

I'm confused how a team that just won the SB by beating Denver, NE and SF is on the downslide.

Bonfa it's called supply and demand if you want it enough you must pay

The ravens are. An old team it's a fact

The ravens are. An old team it's a fact

Posted by: Marc from nj | February 17, 2013 at 12:46 PM

It's a fact LOL.. What a dufus!

I'm not convinced Wallace is ready to be a teams #1 WR or that he is a game changer. Not going to even worry about all the whatifs...In any case they should still draft a WR with either Wallace or Jennings.

I don't like the fit for Wallace with either Philbin or Sherman. Teams keep calling Wallace a one trick pony for what reason? Who thinks that being limited on the routes you can run well is a big handicap? Who wants to pay 10 + mil for a guy that can only run certain routes well?

Bonfa,

Take a look man. They're ALREADY over the cap, and that's before they even sign Flacco to a $14 or $20 million salary. Lewis is about to retire, Reed is 35 and who knows if he'll move on, talk is they'll cut Boldin and lose guys like Kruger or Williams.

Come on man....do you keep up with this stuff or just listen to what the media says? Keep up will ya...

WE NEED TO GET 3 WRs.

I REALLY DON't CARE WHERE OR HOW.

WE NEED 2 TEs SAME AS WRs.

WE NEED TO SCORE MORE POINTS.

WALLACE IS A DEEP THREAT BUT IT WILL NOT MOVE THE D BACK.

AND HE STILL CAN't DO IT ALONE.

CRAIG M AND DUSTY

YOU RATHER HAVE THOSE TWO 2s BACK FOR MARSHALL? LOL

I RATHER HAVE GOTTEN HIM SOME BETTER HELP ON THE OTHER SIDE.

DUSTY:

YOU ARE RIGHT THAT MARSHALL DIDN't TAKE US OR SHY TOWN ANYWHERE.

BUT THAT's NOT HIS JOB. IT's A TEAM SPORT.

YOU CAN't THINK ONE GREAT WR IS THE NSWER.

YOU NEED A FEW. PLUS TEs AND A RUNNING GAME AND A D.

THE CB AND SAFETY ON HIS SIDE WILL HANDLE HIM OR AT LEAST TRY.

SO WE NEED A TE TO BE ABLE TO KEEP THE OTHER SAFTY BUSY.

WE NEED ANOTHER WR (NOT HARTLINE) THAT CAN BEAT MAN TO MAN MAKE THE CATCH AND RUN AWAY FROM THE THE DB OR MAKE HIM MISS.

HARTLINE CAN't DO NEITHER.

ONLY TE IN THIS DRAFT THAT's FAST ENOUGH TO STRECH THE SEAM IS FLORIDA's REED.

YES WE NEED ALOT SO WE NEED TO SURE SOMETHING UP FOR THE LONG TERM OF THE TEAM.

AND I THINK THIS IS A GREAT YEAR FOR WRs.

PLAYMAKERS EVERYWHERE.

WALLACE WOULD BE NICE.

BUT IF WE END THERE IT's ONLY DOING THE SAME THING WE DID WITH MARSHALL.

IF I WAS A GM HARTLINE WOULDN't HAVE BEEN PICKED.

THAT WAS A WASTE OF A DRAFT PICK.

MISI,ODRICK,EGNEW PLUS OTHERS.

NOT GIVING UP THE 2 WE DID FOR MARSHALL.

QUESTION TO EVERYONE

HARTLINE AND BESS WOULD HAVE STARTED ON WHAT TEAM IN THE PLAYOFFS?

MAYBE THE COLTS?

dadsmithwest,

I've heard this 'one trick pony' stuff about Wallace but what EXACTLY does that mean? If it means he just scores TDs or gets big plays, I'll take it.

I really don't understand all this negative about Wallace. He's a Hell of a player IMO. I don't get the people criticizing him. He's FAR better than anything we have on the team right now. It's not even CLOSE. So who are these teams calling him a 'one trick pony'. Maybe it's all the teams he makes look bad.

Wallace could play on my team any time. Only question I have, is he worth $10 mil a year? I don't know the anmswer to that.

The Ravens will be favorites for the SB next year. Flacco and Harbaugh are the next dynasty. And dusty is right the Dolphins schedule last year was EASY!. 11 games were against pathetic teams.

By the way Bonfa,

If you don't feel that Wallace is worth $10 million a year, that's your right. You may actually be right on that.

But don't use the argument that he's an 'average' receiver. His stats after 4 years in the leagues suggest anything but.

Craig

You are the one with piss poor analytic skills that needs to keep up. They didn't need Lewis to win the SB, they got there without him and he was a shell of his old self when he came back in the playoffs. His replacement will be better than what Lewis was this past season.

Did you know that the Ravens have draft picks too? They can boost their defense there. Flacco, Rice are young. Boldin still has plenty of game left in him.

They just dominated the top 3 teams in the NFL and you say they are on the downslide? You are illogical.

It might cost 12 mil a year and ya know what I pay it that's our starting point for the off season it makes a statement, then I follow up with Dustin keller then watch out cause there more coming suckers

Do any of you realize we must overtake the patriots ,,,,,hello is there anyone home

Bonfa says:

I'm confused how a team that just won the SB by beating Denver, NE and SF is on the downslide.
===================================================
Bonfa your just plain confused. The NFL has a draft and FA system that can change teams from year to year. Moreover there are schedule changes. Players get older and therefore teams change quickly. The Dolphins will be taking some risks this offseason because it's their time with the cap space and the number of early draft picks. One more time; the mistake of the last two seasons was not taking risks that may have helped the team. In some cases not taking a risk was correct for a number of reasons including the cap issues. Now the Dolphins have such a huge need they can not help paying market vulue for what they need.

To win in this league you need a pair of baaallls

Thank goodness we didnnt have to play the Ravens, Packers, Falcons, Broncos, or Redskins.

Forget overtaking the Pats. That aint happening!!

Bonfa,

They 'DOMINATED' three teams? REALLY? What games ere you watching? Let's see a hail mary in the last minute against the Broncos where the defenders screwed up, to send the game to OT? That's a domination in your books?
And then in the Super Bowl they had to stop the Niners four times for the 6 to preserve what ended up being a 3 point victory? That's 'doimnating' a team? Come on man....get off the crack!!

I've already said that Boldin is likely a cap casualty, so not sure why you're using him as part of your argument. And they 'won without Lewis'??? Are oyu kdding me man? Lewis is one of the greatest leaders of all time. He was the clue that kept everythig together. The guy who inspired others.

But don't use the argument that he's an 'average' receiver. His stats after 4 years in the leagues suggest anything but.

---------

While I truly admire and appreciate your opinion, I'm sticking with Bill Polians take on this one. It was only a week or two ago. Fast guy, average hands, average route runner, frail build.

Bill Polian knows his stuff. I wish Ross would hire him TODAY!!!

Bonfa,

And he used thos EXACT words?....an 'average WR'? Or are those YOUR words?

One other thing Bonfa, if you expect the 32nd pick of the first round is going to come in and have huge impact right off the bat and the other Raven rookies are going to step right in and be players, you're kidding yourself. What I said in my ORIGINAL point is that the Ravens are going to be on the 'downslide'. You obviously have them winning the Super Bowl again next year. I wonder if you'll still be around next year if they in fact miss the playoffs? You sticking around?

Bonfa,

What's YOUR plan to make this team better tomorrow? I'd like to hear it. Cause I don't get why you're turning your nose up at a WR that has 32 TDs since he game into the league just four years ago. That's the kind of 'one trick pony' I wouldn't mind have on this team. That's the kind of 'average WR' I can appreciate.

Bonfa your just plain confused.
Posted by: promichael | February 17, 2013 at 01:03 PM

I enjoy the way you start off every post to me with a personal attack. Dead wrong, naive, confused. What is it? You are so threatened by someone with a different opinion?

That is not very pro-fessional.

Would you value my opinions a little more if I changed my name to ProBonfa? Sorry, unlike you I don't profess to be what I am not.

Bonfa,

Craig M is for MORON. Why bother arguing with a canadien about Miami football? Ignore his stupidity.

..Craig M..I got a good chuckle when you brought up Austin Collie.. Not because you mentioned him as a possibility. Some of his cousins lived in town here(mind you I live in a town of 100 people) They used to go batshite crazy watching Colt games at the cantina(water only, no hit drinks)....I could only imagine if he were a Phin...Me the antichrist, and a bunch of Mo-Mo's rooting the on the Phins in the middle of nowhere Montana!!!!

Who is happy about losing? You?

Fans like cocoajoe and soren are what keep the dolphins lousy and ireland in business to this day

ABSOLUTLY CLUELESS on how to build a winner

Posted by: Bad Truth for dummies | February 16, 2013 at 01:36 PM
------------------------------------------------------

Absolutely clueless? Really? Pal, you can't undo years of poor player aquisition in one (1) year. No matter how much cap and pics you have. It took years to get us in this shape and it will take years to dig us out. Provided the right choices are made. Get it?

Xerxes,

(there's a new name.....wow!! Did it take you a while to think that one up?).

Thanks for contributing man....always a pleasure!

DD,

That's funny. I just read this morning that he's Canadian too. Not sure if Mark knew that or not. He was born here but not sure how long he stayed here.

To me he'd be a cheap alternative to Hartline. Hartline is fine as a player, I'm just not sure he's a $5-6 mil a year player on a long term deal. If we were to land one of the big three in FA and draft a kid high I think the need for Hartline and his $6 mil contract goes way down. Enter Collie, at a much cheaper rate. Not saying he's as good as Hartline but he's not far off and he'd be a LOT cheaper.

You obviously have them winning the Super Bowl again next year.
Posted by: Craig M | February 17, 2013 at 01:10 PM

Craig,

You are too illogical and have seriously poor memory skills. You keep asking questions I already gave my opinion on.

Also, you put words in my mouth which is both childish and rude. Nowhere did I say the Ravens are going to the SB next year. I merely implied in no way do I see them on the downslide as you do - huge difference.

Grow up.

Bonfa,

I have not professed to be anything but a Dolphin fan. Think about what your writing. "Wallace is an average receiver". One fired executive who was 2 and 14, fell asleep at the GM wheel is what your sticking with. One source that is paid to say things for entertainment value. The Dolphins have to pay market value for what they need.

Bonfa,

OK bud. Thanks for your input and your Fatherly advice.

Make sure you stick around, so we can talk about it in January. I need to grow-up and you put '?????' after may comment that they are 'on the downslide'. Yeah Ok.

Would you like to recant your comment that they 'dominated' in the playoffs or is that part of 'childish and rude' act? Care to expand?

Ross is way too cheap to pay "market value" for good players. Its part of the reason we stink every year.

Hard to say what a schedule will be really like and not on paper. Look at last year. Cinci was no piece of cake, neither was Seattle. I wish for the hardest schedule this year. We beat those good Teams, it will be exciting + we'll know we have a good Team.

promichael,

He's in over his head on this one. He's making comments and then back-pedalling. If he doesn't want Wallace here because he doesn't want $10 mil spent on him then great....I have NO problem with him saying that. But to twist Bill Polian's words to make his argument and then say 'Wallace is average' is LUDICROUS!

Craig,

I think that other guy was right about you. You are now writing like a pouting child. You can go waste someone else's time now. You are not fit for sensible debate.

Bonfa,

FYI the name promichael comes from my email address. That's all it is. I'm a professional tennis instructor that finds young talent. Unrelated to the NFL, I'm a fan. So your conclusions from my site name allow me to realize how naive you are.

Bonfa,

Then DEFEND the points you made. Floor's yours....

promichael

Tell me something, what is the difference between you and I?

Do you not read and consider the opinions thrown about in the media like I do?

Do you not decide which ones make sense to you based on your experience of watching the game?

Do you realize like I do that not one single pundit is every always right regardless of their credentials?

Do you realize like I do that even when the masses all agree their opinion is often wrong - as in the many many high pick busts?

So then, you and I came to two different opinions in the end. So whats the big deal? What is the point of the blog in your mind?

Or you could go hide behind Mommy's skirt if you like....your choice.

Wallace scores TD's with Big Ben. No way he's that effective with TanneBust.

promichael

Calling me dead wrong, naive, and confused...serves no purpose, and you are no more right, experienced or clear headed than anyone else. It's crapshoot for everyone.

Bonfa,

Craig M is a MORON. Ignore him!!!!!!!!!

Bonfa,

I agree with Craig M's point

Then DEFEND the points you made.
