UF's Josh Evans has ties inside the Dolphins

I made the point in the last post that the Dolphins should know the kids coming out of the University of Miami and Florida International University better than any other team because of the proximity of those two schools. Well, throw in the University of Florida and Florida State, too.

Years ago, the Patriots had a great in at Florida because New England coach Bill Belichick and Gators coach Urban Meyer (now at Ohio St.) are great friends.

But the Dolphins are not without ties to the UF program and players. One player in particular to watch is safety Josh Evans.

He wrote an eloquent combine diary for onlygators.com and I suggest you check out the entire piece.

Basically, Evans met with the entire Dolphins coaching staff at the combine. (He also met with Washington, San Francisco, Tampa and Dallas among others.)

What stood out about Miami's meet is that Evans has a great connection with Dolphins assistant DB coach Blue Adams. Adams recruited Evans out of high school for Purdue.

"It was funny to meet up again because we had a great relationship when I was in high school," Evans tells onlygators.com. "When I was coming up, he showed me a lot of love, and now to see him on the professional level there is a sort of comfort to know this guy actually knows who I am. He knows my character, knows I’m not a problem child and knows I’m someone who is striving to be successful in life."

That's excellent news as one hopes Adams will expand on his relationship when discussing him within the Dolphins facility.

Evans was something of a disappointment in the 40 at the combine, running 4.58. But he has a reason: He tweaked a hamstring prior to the run. He'll get another chance at the Florida Pro Day.

If you are wondering why all the coverage of safeties lately, you should understand that is an area of need for Miami. Chris Clemons is an unrestricted free agent. If he doesn't that is a hole for Miami. But even if he does, which I expect, the Dolphins have no real depth at the position.

They had to sign Tyrone Culver late last season to be the backup when they really had no plans of bringing him back when training camp closed and he was cut.

The need doesn't rise to the first-round status, but it will be a discussion later on. Evans might be a fit. And by the way, Evans is training in Boca. That's really close to the Dolphins' training facility.

Had to post something before the great Yesterdays Bong Gone 4 ever said something stupid on this blog too

LoL

Ahhh..................

The love that I recieve from my gorilla pets. LOL....

Mike, can you come up with any more lame excuses?

Tell us again how Ireland's predecessors sucked so Ireland isn't all bad.

Being a lil better than the crap before him is not a reason to stick by him.

4str losing seasons is his record. The Saban, Mueller & stache years are not why this team still sucks. That distinction falls on your b/f, Jeff ireland.

Now please, educate yourself before responding.

How does Irescum still have a job? He's buried this team for the next 4 years!

High Density, I've never heard anyone as dumb as you, you need a lot more education than most on this blog. You don't come with facts, a QB cures all.

Well, I guess its better lovin then you normally recieve from your right hand every morning. But hey, im not judging you or anything

LoL

There is nothing wrong with the Dolphins an elite QB wouldnt cure.

Evans has a 5th round grade at CBS but at the combine tested pretty closely to Kenny Vaccaro. Taking a flyer on Evans in the 5th seems quite a value. Much better than taking that idiot midget from LSU who thinks he's scarface.

Never heard of this kid Josh Evans. As a dolfan, I hate seeing us miss out on great local talent too. Still, I wouldnt like to see us go scraping the bottom of the garbage barrel just because we have missed out on great talent in the past.

The great misnomer is Shula ignored the local(FLA) talent. He really didnt. Just that when he decide to draft U or State talent, he missed out just as big as he missed out on the really great talent he passed on.

Much better than taking that idiot midget from LSU who thinks he's scarface.

It really is true that gutter bums can being lying face up in their own vomit and look down on those better than them. LOL...

Mando,do you mean Urban Myers, former head coach at Florida, but now head coach at Ohio State?

Granted, the team has gone straight downhill since Parcells left.

You guys should really play this out in your heads. It's 2 weeks from FA. About 2 months from the Draft. If Ireland was fired today, do you KNOW what that would do to jeopardize this Season as far as talent acquisition? We'd have to find a new GM, get him up to speed on the team's MANY needs, get him in sync with the coaches needs, all in time for FA March 9 (or whatever). It's BEYOND stupid to even suggest at this point.

The time to change GMs was last year when we changed HCs. At the very latest after the Season. But now, TODAY, right before a GMs most important part of the year? Dumb. And anyone who's calling on the team to do it doesn't understand football or life for that matter.

Scrapping the bottom of the garbage barrel??? *Lmao*

Thats all you do in here day by day Yeast Boy with your constant spew of garbage, and dolfan?? you were talking like you were all about changing teams a few days ago.

High Density- if Tannehill progresses this year- the Dolphins will be a playoff team. I agree with Mike. Ireland's last two drafts without Parcells influence- 2011 and 2012, have netted some quality players for this team. This draft and FA period are key-Tannehill needs weapons and if found for him, he will progress as I mentioned above. Now, if Ireland cant find FA and draft weapons to put around Tannehill and the dolphins do worse or the same in 2013 as they did in 2012- then I think the team fires Ireland.

Mark,

Mando's right that we need depth at Safety. I personally don't care too much for Clemons. So even if he IS resigned, I'd like competition in camp for that position. I'd take a flyer on just about anyone.

DC, a blind monkey throwing darts at a dartboard would do a better draft then Ireland. So firing him at ANY time is a PLUS.

I'm listening to ESPN interview Vernon Davis right now. How is it that he can come off as such an articulate guy when his little brother is a complete moron?

Posted by: Frank from PA | February 28, 2013 at 02:27 PM

I would wait until the end of fa and the draft to declare with an "improved Tannehill" that the Dolphins would be a 2013 playoff team.

There's much behind the curtains that we yet can not see. Jumping the gun in a race can lead to a scratch and eventual disqualification.

It really is true that gutter bums can being lying face up in their own vomit and look down on those better than them. LOL...

WTF does this mean Yeast Boy??

OMG LoL

Nonstop stupidity 24/7

This is just too easy making you look foolish

Look in the mirror, my fine little gorilla pet. LOL...

I like Josh Evans, he is one of a few worthy S prospects you can draft 3rd round or later.

By the way, Dolphins own the 13th pick in the 5th round, what we lack right now is a 6th rounder, although we pick again at #11 and #18 in the 7th round.

Mark, no offense meant. I know you don't like Martin I just hope that makes you feel a bit better about not getting Glenn.
Posted by: NeMo | February 28, 2013 at 02:30 PM

NeMo,

Why do you appologize for taking an idiot to the woodshed? Armando has done it a thousand times. LOL...

The same guys saying Tanny needs weapons said Henne needed weapons. So we brought in Jake Long, Mike Pouncey, Richie Incognito, Brandon Marshall and Reggie Bush. How'd that work out? IT DIDNT HELP ONE BIT. Tanny is a bust and you could surround him with an all start team and it wont help. Been there done that.

Reason - you probably believe that too, which shows your hold on reality.

Woodshed - Different fathers.

DC, the two guys I really like at Free Safety are Eric Reid of LSU and TJ McDonald of USC. Reid has a 2nd round grade and McDonald surprisingly down to the 4th. TJ is the son of former pro bowler Tim McDonald and has the pedigree. I think he's being unfairly punished because of how bad Taylor Mays turned out but everyone could see that wreck coming. TJ is not a great centre fielder but tough down in the box. Can match up to TEs, just down't ask him to go 1 v 1 on WRs. Reid is a DeROn Landry clone. Both are beasts physically. Unfortunately I don't see the great centre fielder type in this draft.

tgh i refuse to believe u are really this dumb

Mark, no offense meant. I know you don't like Martin I just hope that makes you feel a bit better about not getting Glenn.

Maybe so Yeast boy, but we're all still counting on how many times you've looked like an idiot and beenn corrected on this blog many times over.

And guess what???... your still the defending Champion!!!At least theres something you can hang your head high about!!!

LoL

dusty, the feeling is mutual, bubba

good to know tgh, i knew you must of been kidding

"In recent years, the Patriots had a great in at Florida because New England coach Bill Belichick and Gators coach Urban Meyer are great friends."

And now they have a great 'in' at Alabama with Saban which is why they drafted Dont'a Hightower.

Tanny doesnt have the accuracy, footwork, or consistent delivery to succeed in the NFL. I'm amazed no one on the Dolphins noticed this BEFORE the draft.

How is it that he can come off as such an articulate guy when his little brother is a complete moron?
Posted by: The Woodshed Gang | February 28, 2013 at 02:29 PM

Why do white people have to refer to blacks that speak clearly as "articulate". When a white guy doesnt speak clearly he's just referred to as a "redneck".

I've yet to hear when a white person speaks clearly, the tag "articulate" being attached to the conversation. Is it still the slave mentality that if someone is black, they are not expected to speak clearly? LOL...

looks like the jets are getting back a ton of picks from san fran in this revis deal

Posted by: Mark in Toronto | February 28, 2013 at 02:40 PM

What it means is that Im clearly speaking over your head gutter dump. LOL...

Watching Mike & some other homers defend Ireland is funnier than going to a comedy club!

DC....

while I agree with your theory about "changing GMs"...and I also agree that for all PRATICAL purposes its to late now...

I got to say this...

If i'm an owner...and I don't trust my GM...i would already have a "shadow GM" on the side....somebody who I might be using as a "consultant"...so everything is on the up and up....and I can easily dispell leaks and rumors....

Having my "consultant" would make it an easy transition to a new GM...even weeks before FA or the draft....

I know its shady....and would not be viewed favorably by other GMs or owners....but if it WORKS....history re-writes itself...and I am know as the owner with fore-thought...much like the Harbaugh brothers...

one changing his OC mid-season...the other his QB...both unprecedented...both with unprecedented results....

changing our GM is highly unlikely...but...with some imagination...it could be done...

Only the Jests fans support Irescum.

It's actually interesting when you look at the Patriots drafts over the last 5 years b/c even with all their draft picks they can't hit on a WR & CB.

The ONE player that still produced at a high level after leaving NE & the one player that NE hasn't been able to replace is Assante Samuel.

Don't waste your space on Safeties, Armando. Elam and Vaccaro stand out like sore thumbs.

what round do you think we should draft this bumb!?!?! 7th!? he misses tackles, wiffs on int's, he's out of position half the time! his hair looks stupid too!

Tanny doesnt have the accuracy, footwork, or consistent delivery to succeed in the NFL. I'm amazed no one on the Dolphins noticed this BEFORE the draft.

TGH,

I'm so glad you know more about QB's than our coaching staff.

Posted by: Kris | February 28, 2013 at 02:47 PM

We could always hand the team girl scout uniforms and a helmet opening season, game one.

It isnt too late for that yet. LOL...

Steve Ross is full of shyt. Every time he opens his mouth he inserts foot into it.

It's a bit ironic that Armando misspelled 'eloquent.'

Posted by: Yesterday's Gone 4Ever! | February 28, 2013 at 02:45 PM

No Yeast Boy,

It means you are one of the saddest exscuses of human breed to fall on this mother earth and think your important enough to sound as stupid as you do on a daily basis and consider that legal in any country.

How is it that he can come off as such an articulate guy when his little brother is a complete moron?

Who ever said I was white? I am, but still I find your assumption to be racist. A little bit anyway.
I've use articulate to describe any race when it fits. What else could I have said "we'll spoken" or " expresses himself clearly"? Those sound more racist to me.

YG...

they had better play tougher than that....

or we may lose our GM and our coach....

go finsssssssss 12 days till free agency

Kris, that would be different, and I agree, could be done that way. But that would mean prior planning by Ross, and I doubt he's done that (unless you were referring to the Peterson guy).

Kris & DC, I was not advocating firing Ireland right now before the start of FA & the draft. I was making a blanket statement that Ireland is the problem & the excuses some fans come up with are beyond ludicrous!

Forgot prior regimes! Let's talk about the last 5 years ONLY! The 3 or 4 decent players Ireland has brough in does NOT outnumber the dozens of terrible moves he's made.

Let's live in the NOW! ireland's teams have sucked for 4 straight years & aside from 1 lucky hit to brady's knee, it would have been 5.

This IS ireland's team & it stinks! It has more unfilled positions than filled ones.

Anyone on here, who is sane, would not be stomping their feet claiming Ireland's done alright. He should have been fired by now. He don't know how to build a team.

When Ireland is gone, Miami might become relevant again.

I'm so glad you know more about QB's than our coaching staff.

Posted by: We Need Playmakers | February 28, 2013 at 02:50 PM

Doesnt everyone? Terrible hires across the board.

Yg, when people say you sound like a moron when you try to articulate yourself, it has nothing to do with your skin colour. Your stink, maybe a little, but not your skin colour. It has to do with your teeny tiny brain ...

If you are wondering why all the coverage of safeties lately, you should understand that is an area of need for Miami. Chris Clemons is an unrestricted free agent. If he doesn't that is a hole for Miami. But even if he does, which I expect, the Dolphins have no real depth at the position.

Mando,

I hear you BUT if we re-sign Clemons there's even bigger issues @ CB, WR, TE, & maybe T.

1) Starting WR's are Bess & Matthews. Then we have Binns & M. Moore.
2) Starting CB's are Richard Marshall & Nolan Carroll. Third CB is RJ Stanford.
3) Starting TE is unknown. Right now we have Clay & Eggnog.
4) Martin may move to LT but we have no one to play RT.

OMG....Now I'm going to puke.

High Density....

you don't have to tell me.....

It'll take 4 years after Ireland is fired to fix his mess.

Mark,

Did you know that it's been scientifically proven that Americans are smarter than Canadians?

Scientists took a random sample of Craig M & your posts from this blog to make their conclusions. Scientifically proven beyond a shadow of a doubt.

Now, go find a Canadian blog to ruin.

USA!

Cant the canadiens find a canadien blog?

I was watching espn's, "Outside The Lines" last week. The discussion was exactly this. There were black journalists at the discussion table also.

The black journalist described being black an referred to as "ariculate" by the white media as feeling belittled and racist. They talked about how when white people speak clearly, theyre never referred to as "articulate".

They really do have a point. The word "articulate" when used to describe the way an African American speaks. Does approach racial stereo-typing and in the least borders "unintentional racisim". But still clearlt racist.

Suggesting if youre black, its unexpected that one has an ability to speak clearly.

DC...

I'm just playing whishful but not the LEAST bit likely hypotheticals....

Like you have typed since @ least last NOV....

Ireland is the GM for the forseable future...so we need to get used to it....

I can't wait for the Armando article titled..."Ireland places house on market"....
