Vontae Davis gets Sean Smith, self in hot water

We all know Sean Smith is eager to test the free agent market. He's going to have suitors.

But none of the contact that will happen starting March 9 when pending free agents are allowed to speak with all clubs is supposed to be happening yet. If it is happening, it is tampering.

That, of course, happens all the time but is rarely proven.

Well, if you believe former Dolphins cornerback Vontae Davis, there is tampering afoot relative to Sean Smith.

"I seen my dude Sean Smith last night he said he talking to KC him & B Flowers will makes (sic) a good Duo," Davis tweeted in the last 20 minutes.

It suggests Smith is talking to an NFL team when he shouldn't be -- specifically the Kansas City Chiefs. It is coming from a close -- albeit ridiculously dumb -- friend of the Dolphins cornerback. And a storm could be on the way over the matter if the NFL chooses to pursue it.

For the record, I tweeted agent David Canter, who represents Smith, to see if the tampering allegation is true.

"Don’t believe everything players tell you Armando. Rule number 1 of football journalism," he replied.

Well, I think I'm pretty versed in journalism and that isn't Rule 1. Rule 1 is get it straight from the horse's mouth and get it on the record.

This comes from Davis's mouth as his account is verified. And I believe he simply slipped. That's neither here nor there. So I asked Canter if he is saying Davis is lying?

"I say clients haven’t ever spoken to teams prior to free agency so his statement isn’t true," Canter replied.

I believe Canter. I believe Sean Smith probably hasn't spoken to the Chiefs. But notice he didn't say he hadn't spoken to the Chiefs on Smith's behalf.

Here's an interesting twist: Moments after I retweeted Davis's tweet and sought out Canter, the former Dolphins cornerback tweeted that his account had been hacked.

"My Twitter was Hack I did not see Sean Smith last night!!" he wrote in his own inimitable style for the language.

That's possible. And it's also possible Davis is doing damage control because he was informed he'd just uncovered his good friend.

I will be seeking comment from the Dolphins on this matter. They probably will have none. They are, however, aware of the issue.

[Update: The Miami Dolphins have no comment.]

[Update: Smith denied on twitter he met with the Chiefs. "Whoa, no I didn't."  he tweeted. Then he added: "OK, this is getting out of hand. I've never talked to any other team besides the Miami Dolphins."]

[Update: Smith also said he did speak with former Dolphins coach now KC DB coach Al Harris recently and told Davis about that and that Davis misunderstood somehow that it meant Smith is talking to the Chiefs.]

[Update: The Chiefs have no comment.]

Again, the denials never mention whether Smith's agent talked to the Chiefs.

The NFL has no comment but it does, according to Herald beat reporter Adam Beasley, investigate allegations of tampering, regardless of whether the offended team files a complaint or not. The NFL does prefer a complaint be filled.

Meanwhile, Davis comes off as initially transparent but not necessarily intelligent relative to outing his friend and then his backtracking.

[Update: Smith now is basically conceding that Davis lied about having his account hacked. "He panicked ... Not the best idea but I appreciate it tho."]

[Update: And now Sean Smith has blocked me on twitter. These guys are brilliant.]

Canter has a spill he has to clean up.

And now we shall wait to see if Sean Smith signs eventually with the Kansas City Chiefs or perhaps the Philadelphia Eagles, with whom Canter met (for undisclosed reasons) during the Indianapolis combine.

Remember, ALoco we drafted SS into Sparano's hands. He MUST be given a chance to develop under suppossedly better Coaching.

You saw it too? Thought my eyes were playing tricks on becase that blog was up and then down so fast that I thought I was seeing things. Glad someone else saw that too. LOL...

Jonathan Cyrien is the safety from Florida Intenational everyone's now talking about. Some are now rating him the 2nd best safety in the draft.

Is there a Cypien or krypien in this draft? I'm wondering about a blog that this one replaced earlier.

Take Patterson first no matter what!

Its Cyprien, Jonathan Cyprien.

Yes I did. I thought it was funny. Did miami interview him at the combine? Is that allowed yet? Is the NFL rigged And this kid is our " surprise" 1st round pick?

HoHo! No arguments. Right, ALoco?

Got the spelling . Thanks I just couldn't remember it exact because it was gone quick.

"My Twitter was Hack I did not see Sean Smith last night!!"

Great athlete but Parcells & Ireland had to wonder if this kid could remember what to do in certain looks...

Posted by: We Need Playmakers | February 27, 2013 at 03:16 PM

ROTFLMAO - Certain Looks? I would be surprised if the idiot can remember his NAME-LOL.

Hell, we get more from KC if tampering chargers are proven, than they would actually give us in trade for Sean Smith. LOL...

LIFE IS SHORT.............

I've heard of Cyprien. Supposedly very fast but on the smallish side.

Bacon is for dumb people, trailer park people or very, very poor people, and of course illiterate football fans.

Amazing they pay these guys this kind of money, I'll bt there IQ is close to 80.

Posted by: ALoco | February 27, 2013 at 07:54 PM

Sounds like dinner night once a ghetto girl gets her food stamp card loaded again. LOL...

Not again! Sheeeez!!!!

Does ever one single solitary day go by where odinslime doesn't talk about drugs or hommostuff?

Bears recieved a 5th rd'er, we presently dont have a 5th rd pick. The 3rd pick recieved for Marshall can become the first pick of the 3rd rd. LOL...

Posted by: Yesterday's Gone 4Ever! | February 27, 2013 at 03:39 PM

All kiding aside, are you sure about this? I thought San Fran FORFEITED their 5th rounder.

Goodell didn't give that 5th(or any other 5th)to the Bears. He made San Fran forfeit the pick and then made them TRADE spots in the 3rd round.

Thats the way I understood it, just curious as to how that really worked out. It would be nice if we received some kind of "Break" for these guys idiocy.

Why in the world would Andy Reid trade for Alex Smith when he has the great Stanzi as his 4th string QB ready to move up?

"My Twitter was Hack I did not see Sean Smith last night!!"

Shows how stupid he is. All he had to do was:

"April Fools in Febuary"

Then everyone would have thought it was just a hoax.

This draft is deep in the 2nd and 3rd rounds for quality CB's and WR's. With this in mind we should focus on finding some playmakers for Tannehill. My choices for pick #12 go like this if they are still available, also this is contingent if we don't re-sign Jake Long.

1. Lane Johnson
2. Jonathan Cooper
3. Tyler Eiphert
4. Xavier Rhodes
5. Tyvon Austin
6. Cordelle Patterson

Finally, we have not only 1 but 2 Five Stars Hotels in Florida. The Oriental Mandarin and a Spa/Hotel in Sunny Isles. Congratulations!

Remember, ALoco we drafted SS into Sparano's hands. He MUST be given a chance to develop under suppossedly better Coaching.

Oscar, My Spouse said to me "If a DOG DONT BITE WHEN HE'S A PUP,hE WONT BITE WHEN HE'S A DOG" Another words sean Smith has been dissapointing for three years, He'll continue to disapoint.
Same thing as Chad Henne.

Aloco, How did you get off work for 2 Days?

Yes, youre right. SF forfeited the 5th rd pick.

That is what they said about Drew Brees, Cameron Wake, Rich Gannon, Cris Carter.....

Could be MaMaMa, yes. We'll see.

Most bloggers have no mind of their own and no original thought. So they regurgitate what others say, since their own minds are empty as a balloon.

I can see now that nobody will be happy with the results of FAgency and the Draft. Except me.

Parcells failed to mention:

That which does bites will someday fail to have any teeth.

Do you think we will re-sign Jake Long? If we don't Lane Johnson has to be the pick, because someone has to protect Tannehill. Eric Fisher, and Luke Jockel will be gone by #12. If we do re-sign Long then we can focus on playmakers for Tannehill. That is why I hope we re-sign Long. Pro-Bowl LT's just don't grow on trees. My thing is that Martin isn't strong enough yet to handle the NFL, and although Johnson is a freak athlete he isn't strong enough yet either. These guys will get pushed around for a couple of years before they blossom. Long is a man and can has the strength to protect Tannehill.

Watch Ireland and Philbin do the right thing. How will you know? You will know in December.

If I May. The Chiefs Will Be Better Than The Ravens. But They Still Won't Make The Playoffs!

Posted by: Dashi™ | February 27, 2013 at 06:06 PM

Dashi and I agree on "The TrollTard Twins".

But we have to disagree on this! Dashi, what are you thinking?

I do believe the Ravens will slide some and that the Chiefs will improve. But........but......did you type that right? Do you REALLY think the Chiefs will pass them up?

See! MORE living proff that Dashi and I are NOT the same poster. We just know how to debate cordially. Thats not to say that most of you other guys don't know how to debate cordially, YOU GUYS DO, obviously. I'm just pointing out that Dashi and I disagree on ALOT of issues, points, etc, etc.

(Oh no! Now I'll be accuse of being Rob M for typing - "Cheers!"-LOL.)

Uh, should we write this down, clown?

Trade SS to KC. He'll never flourish there.

Odin,Who are the Fins going for in there first round pick?

The best play I ever saw SS make was a wonderful over the shoulder reach up one hand grab....during his first exhibition season.

Not enough.

What to do with the #12 pick? It all starts what we do with Jake Long. If we re-sign him we can go after other needs like CB, WR, TE. If we don't re-sign him we have to draft an O-lineman. If we don't re-sign him I see us taking Lane Johnson or Jonathan Cooper at the #12 spot. Your thoughts?

At 12, there is no decision. Patterson. Case closed.

Yet Im sure you would fire the Chiefs gm for getting a better deal.

Posted by: Yesterday's Gone 4Ever! | February 27, 2013 at 06:08 PM

Not starting a fight YG, just chiming in on Smith.

I don't believe KC got a better deal. Only time will tell whose right or wrong. But I believe Smith benefitted GREATLY from Harbaugh(The Coaches), The System and ALL the talent he was surrounded with.

Even with Singletary(virtually surrounded by the same talent)Smith kind of sucked. I don't think he's anywhere near as good as some(most)think.

If I'm right, watch Smith look like a cheap back up, *Oops**....I mean EXPENSIVE(now-lol)Back Up, when surrounded with the talent in KC.

For the record, I would've went with Matt Moore over Smith(I know what your thinking)seriously.

I wouldn't be surprised if odin, YG and Dashi were the same person. They all talk the same sh-t occassionally.

Matt Moore, LOL!

Whats what these fans that fall in love with 7th round back up QB's like Moore and Flynn?

I wouldn't be surprised if odin, YG and Dashi were the same person. They all talk the same sh-t occassionally.

Posted by: oscar canosa | February 27, 2013 at 08:31 PM

I wouldn't be surprised if one of them was Pee Wee Herman.

I'm saying the Chiefs would have been better signing Moore in FA and drafting one of these kids in a later round to develop. They've added a stopgap (nothing more) and they'll realize that in about a year or two. They did the same with Cassel and that was a dumb move too.

Posted by: Craig M | February 27, 2013 at 06:39 PM

Craig, I hadn't even caught up when I posted the above. I guess we're in total agreement on the matter.

All except for the statement about it taking a year OR TWO to figure out Smith was a mistake. Because the Cheifs are so terrible, it MIGHT take two years to see he isn't the answer. But I think they'll have it figured out by next December. Smith=Cassell.

I would've signed Matt Moore for alot cheaper, then let Cassell, Quinn and Stanzi battle it out with another Project QB from the draft.

Note: People were giving YG a hard time about Stanzi a couple of days ago. But I have to **SOMEWHAT** agree with him. I still believe Stanzi can be at least a GOOD NFL Quarterback if developed properly and given the chance(s).

I see not mch has changed here, Odin stank still here,YG4L Still posting 24/7.
How do these losers pay there bills?
Oh Wait, Thats right, There what we call Welfare People.
A quick question. How come we dont have state sanction suicide, These two losers would be first to go.

I still believe Stanzi can be at least a GOOD NFL Quarterback if developed properly and given the chance(s).
Posted by: odinseye | February 27, 2013 at 08:44 PM

You are talking about a guy who in year two couldn't elevate beyond 4th string on a team with the worst QB situation in the NFL. Brady Quinn is ahead of Stanzi over there.

Some of you just don't get it, the coaches that train these guys day in and day out see 100 times more than you do.

Cassel was an enormous mistake and Stanzi is a bust.

And some of you complain about Ireland?

You go ahead and build your team around him, I'll take my chance in the draft with a high pick and let Patterson and Marshall fight for the starting spot on the opposite side. Smith is one of THE WORST CBS IN THE LEAGUE,,,,,,,,,,,PERIOD.

Posted by: Phins78 | February 27, 2013 at 06:47 PM

Good To See You're Still Kicking!

You been on vacation-LOL?

I agree totally! Marshall only played about a game and a half before being injured. Before the injury hen was CLEARLY(in my eyes)out playing Davis and Smith.

It's when he tried to "Play Through" the back injury that he made himself look bad. He was trying to be a TOUGH-TEAM player and it hurt his stock.

I suspect the only damage done was in the eyes of the average fan. I'm SURE the Coaching Staff and Teammates knew about the injury and what he went through trying to perservere.

I'm just hoping for a complete recovery. It's just my opinion, but he was the best CB we had last year, including Davis and Smith. He should at least offer quality depth or be the nickle. The nickle was his position and it's what we ORIGINALLY brought him in for.

Good To See You Here!!!!

Posted by: John "The Dolfan" | February 27, 2013 at 08:29 PM

The only fa move that will totally shock me is if Ireland does not keep Jake Long.

You believe he can still be a good QB based on what exactly? Tea leaves? Tarot cards? Silly emotion? You have not seen him on the field, and KC refused to put him there under the most dire circumstances.

Get a clue.

2 NFL head coaches have said loud and clear than Stanzi doesn't have it, but odinShe who has never seen him take the field against NFL competition 'still believes' LOL.

Posted by: Geo | February 27, 2013 at 08:49 PM

Same idiot keeps saying Stanzi is 4th string. From nfl.com idiot:

KC qb depth chart

B. Quinn
M. Cassel
R. Stanzi

Have you learned to count yet?

When all is said and done, both Cleo Lemon and John Beck will have had a more significant NFL career than Stanzi LOL.

Posted by: ALoco | February 27, 2013 at 07:01 PM

PSS: Notice how ALoco only ASKS QUESTIONS and/or ONLY COMMENTS on past events?

Yet he then asks or questions others about whether they were right or wrong?

Lets here some of your prophetic wisdom ALoco. Lets here YOUR predictions. Give a few SPECIFIC predictions about the draft and about how we will fare this season.

Don't just sit on the sidelines warbling all year every year. Because then.........then........well, because that just makes you one UGLY, Illiterate CheerLeader.

No offense of course, but you know how people feel about UGLY CheerLeaders!

Just Saying..............

You left out Kyle Orton and Brady Croyle!

And does 3rd really change the equation, bonehead?

For all practical purposes, Stanzi is now Zero String on the unemployed line. LOL

Its idiots like you who would have prematurely called Aaron Rodgers bust. He didnt see the playing field his 1st 2 seasons either.

No one ever said Stanzi was a day one starter.

Having the Chiefs discard you as QB is equivalent to the fattest, ugliest girl saying no to you. LOL!

Geo, When all is said and done, How much time have we wasted reading Odinstnk and Flip-Flopper (YG4L)Idiotic posts over the years?

No more posts to you. Youve already been overfed. LOL...

Time for you to cork up your pie hole, Rodgers played behind HOF Farve!!!! What the ferk kind of example is that Stanzi plays behind the 3 worst QB's in the NFL and still couldn't even get on the field, and now he is only days away from being dumped. LOL

You are a fool.

YG = Shirt for Brains. LOL.
