What must happen for the Dolphins to be Super Bowl good?

The NFL season ends today with the crowning of the Super Bowl 47 champion.

Tomorrow we begin a new season. As I write here many fans and even some teams will study the Ravens and 49ers to see if they can find clues or reasons both those teams are Super and everyone else, well, isn't.

So I gave you my opinion. What's your's?

What must happen for the Dolphins to become a Super Bowl team? No, I don't believe the distance between them and the playoffs is that great. Three or four more wins and the Dolphins are a playoff team. But a Super Bowl team?

That gulf is wide, in my opinion.

Still, can the Dolphins bridge that gap in a couple of years, as the 49ers went from 6-10 in 2010 to the NFC championship game in 2011 and the Super Bowl today?

What must happen for that to happen?

The rest of us? Ah, we can handle it on our own.

We lost some games we should have won. The memorable ones being Carpenters slump, ungh!

We also fail to generate enough turnovers.

Aquiesing to these two facts, we're closer to being a Wildcard Team than it seems.

Just get us THREE KEY PLAYMAKERS and we're a playoff team.

Get us a Beastly No.1 WR.

A Bookend Pass Rusher to Wake.

And a True Shutdown Corner.

That's it! That's all it would take to get us in the playoffs. How well we do from there depends on two things.

1. How well Ireland does finding quality depth and filling out the roster.

2. The Biggie, how much further Tannehill develops.

I say we're alot closer to the playoffs than most realize. But I also have to agree wholeheartedly with Armando. When talking Super Bowl, we're talking GULF!

Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra, in Cuba, Beny More, etc.

Ozzy Osbourne, Steve Tyler, Joe Cocker, etc, etc.....

Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Wonder, Al Green, Barbara, Liza, and of course the divine Sarah Vaughan.

PS: Hows The Big Easy treating you Mando?

I'm giving 2 to 1 odds that Mando will be *Tee-Rashed* by Midnight!

-Speaking of Lover Boys, I got "Something" you'd like to Handle Big Boy!

Now seriously, it's Super Bowl Sunday for God's Sake! What kind of egotistical idiot are you? It's Super Bowl Sunday FOOL..........Be Happy and quit trying to ruin it for everyone.

I know you can't help yourself, but C'Nom Man!!!!

NOT TODAY!

LOL - C'Nom Man.........?

SB is not even on my mind, not even in the mix......what is in the mix is the playoffs, and I agree they're not far off--hopefully a good offseason gets them on the doorstep or better, and we go from there-I'd be happy (for now) competing for the playoffs, and very happy just making the playoffs, relevant and considered one of the better teams in the league--I'll take that for now..... make the playoffs for a couple of years, then lets talk about SB

Sarah Vaughan.

Posted by: Les | February 03, 2013 at 05:18 PM

I was talking singers, but if you're going to mention Jimi and a Vaugh, lets not forget Stevie Ray!

God Bless his tortured soul! It was a burden for him and a blessing for the rest of us.

I said when they hired Philbin that fans should temper their expectations and consider it a 3 year rebuild timeframe.....sucks but thats just reality--give the guy 3 years/drafts (2 if optimistic) to build the roster that he wants (working with Ireland, I realize) and then judge him from there--so we're done year 1 (small improvement, IMO) and moving toward year 2....

benz,

Agreed! Lets get to the playoffs FIRST-LOL!

Which, incidently, brings up Ireland! With Carpenters slump and some heartbreaking close losses, it's obvious(at least too me)that we're closer than our record reflects. There were three games we definitely should have won. Those would have got us to 10 wins.

So, to me this means we're close. This is where Ireland comes in. With 5 picks in the first 3 rounds and nearly 50 million dollars, it's put up or shut up time!

There's just not a conceiveable excuse! A shiny new coaching staff and 1st round quarterback, going into their 2nd year together. The draft picks, the free agent money............we should be kicking in the door this year! End of story.

If for some crazy reason we fail to make the playoffs, there WILL be one consolation! We all get attend the public lynching of Jeffy Ireland!

Semper Fi!!!!

ODINSEYE I AGREE WITH THE PLAYMAKERS NEEDED AND YES THAT WILL PUT US IN THE PLAYOFFS BUT THE DOLPHINS ALSO NEED TO KEEP THE GOOD RELIABLE TALENT THEY DO HAVE(BUSH,LONG,HARTLINE AND MAYBE STARKS) IF YOU LOSE LONG NOW YOU HAVE OL PROBLEMS,IF YOU LOSE BUSH NOW YOU HAVE RB PROBLEMS,LOSE HARTLINE YOU TAKE TANNEHILL MOST RELIABLE TARGET. NOW IN THE CASE OF STARKS IT'S DIFFERENT. DO YOU WANT A DOMINANT AGING PRO BOWL DEFENSIVE TACKLE OR DO YOU WANT TO REPLACE HIM? MY CHOICE IS TO KEEP HIM FOR NOW. TO BECOME A SUPER BOWL TEAM FA AND DRAFT MUST WORK OUT PRODUCING GOOD STARTERS TO MESH WITH YOUR ON TALENT. I STILL SEE A 10 WIN SEASON NEXT YEAR BARRING MAJOR INJURIES AND WITH THE BEST AFC TEAMS STARTING TO AGE THE SKY IS THE LIMIT FOR THE FINS IF IRELAND GETS IT RIGHT.

Philbin gets his time to prove his worth.

But for Ireland, the time is now. He's gotten a ginormous benefit of the doubt as it is. He's received a free pass for having worked under Parcells.

But that's all over now. Because of that and our current "situation", I say it's "Do Or Die" for Ireland. This off season IS his Super Bowl. It's his time to shine. If he doesn't get it done this off season, if we don't make the playoffs, he's TOAST!

At least thats the way it would be if I were Ross!

Armando,

First of all the Dolphins must resign Matt Moore in case Tannehill is not that guy. Matt Moore has shown that he can win. I don't mean Matt should start but if Ryan screws up and is not that guy then they have Moore's experience. Moreover the Dolphins need to go after a WR talent in free agency. Most likely Mike Wallace but Greg Jennings will due. Sign Long if he does not get crazy about money. In the draft go after another speed receiver in the first round. The Dolphins will also have to get a TE in free agency. The Dolphins then must with their next four picks after the 1st round get another pass rusher and two CB's. The 2nd guy chosen in the 3rd round should be an OG. The Dolphins should also try and keep Reggie Bush if possible. If the Dolphins can do the aforementioned they will make the playoffs. Super Bowl; Well perhaps but get in the playoffs first.

I agree with Odin, just a couple more playmakers and a sense of urgency. I'm ready to see that multi-formation fast paced offense they've been talking about.

On defense I lean toward keeping Starks to keep on run D intact but we need at last one top corner and more pressure on the QB. Especially playing Brady twice a year.

Miami would have been in the superbowl today if they had made a change at quarterback in week 4. So, they are going to use Henne-2 for two more years. So prepare to suffer two more years when until a new coach and quarterback will be installed. Everyone knows now that you cannot win in this league without a top notch quarterback; everyone except the dolphins! They still think that they can surround a mediocre quarterback with talent and somehow start to win games and the division. Keep in mind, they have been trying this philosophy since the "great One" retired. It is insulting that they are still trying to sell us this crap 14 years later!!!!!!!!!!

Swan,

"If Ireland gets it right"

Well said! Matter of fact, that's ALL that needs to be said!

This is Jim Harbaugh's 2nd year right. I didn't take him long.

Btw bond david, its kap's 2nd year as well. Cut Tanny some slack.

Pink Floyd,Aerosmith,Van Halen(With David Kee Roth),Motley Crue...
Thats some Rock.

What must happen for the Dolphins to be Super Bowl good?

THEY HAVE TO GET RID OF IRELAND AND GET A GM WITH A CLUE!!!!!!!

They need a new top GM, new top HC, and new elite QB

Kick the dang ball off already.

I cant imagine a Ross/Ireland combo ever sniffing a SB. Honestly.

When do the fins take the field?

Ross has to stop being so cheap and start paying for good players, GM's an HC's.

New Owner,New GM.

Cant win without a QB. Duuuuhhhh!

What do you know about it MaGee? This is a mans sport.

Fire FIRELAND or Ross sell the team to someone who cares. And than maybe we can win again. To bad Shula didn't have the billion dollars to buy back than!

What must happen for the Dolphins to be Super Bowl good?

They need all new players and coaches. Good ones this time.

Sorry Ricky, Been watching the Dolphins since 6, Iam 28 now, Thate 22 years of watching, and he last 15 have been Brutal to say the least.

It was just an anchorman joke MaGee. You have a right to your opinion and it has been brutal these last few years.

We're close though. Better to hope they get it right this off season. Another rebuild would be brutal as well.

lmao@ F4PFGs

None taken, Have In-Laws From San Fran. There Going crazy over there from What I hear.

Dolphins chances to ldraft a top QB since Parcells and FIRELAND came to town, let's start with Matt Ryan RG3. Wilson Kaapernick
Flaaco. and so on and so forth! That's said it all!! But some of you guys on here think FIRELAND is a great GM. As long as we have FIRELAND we win nothing!

GO FINS
MOVE TO L.A. AND STOP EMBARRASSING S.FLORIDA

FLACCO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wanted to punch my TV when I saw Parcells

GOD BLESS BILL PARCELLS...

Ray--agree about the QBs (and dont forget Dalton and Brees, although thats old news at this point) but I still dont get how so many fans feel we "missed" on RG3.....we actually passed on the others, had a chance to draft them and whiffed, but we didnt have a chance to draft RG3 unless we traded a boatload.....BIG difference (and I wouldnt have traded a boatload).

Fin4 and Craig M,

Did I tell you guys the Ravens would take away the run and force Kap into making the big mistake?

I got one RIGHT for a change!

Yeah ME!

THE GREAT PHIN78 MADE PEACE WITH THE OTHER POSTERS, WHEN WILL YOU?

(BUFFET OF KNOWLEDGE)

Ravens & 9ers share one main thing, their core is in tact, few pieces added bt even when they struggled in 2010, the core players still exist & are now experienced key vets. Phins keep letting good players go, we have no core. Vontae Davis was a solid CB last yr for Colts, teh Phins let him go & created another needed position. This yr will be reggie bush & hartline probably &create more holes t plug. Good/great teams keep guys like this in place & add more talent, eventually becoming strong teams. The phins are loooong away until they #1 keep key players in miami, & #2 become better evaluators of talent.

Ravens. Yeah. UM. BABY THOSE ARE THE LEADERS FOR THE RAVENS. RAY LEWIS AND ED REED!

BEAUTIFUL!

Now you can start Yawning!

(BTW - This is where Kap starts to buckle-LOL)

Good God,How did he know?

We need our gm to stop trading up for average running backs. Stop drafting te's with no heart. Stop drafting Misi instead of Gronkowski. Stop passing on Boldin & trading for Marshall. Etc. Etc...

She lip-synching again? No matter, she looks fine.

Simple, get a GM that knows what they are doing.....

Big Thighs, a la Tina Turner.

She would look great for Me on all Fours.

She is sexy, but limited talent and originality. Like most of todays fabricated stars.
