What must happen for the Dolphins to be Super Bowl good?

The NFL season ends today with the crowning of the Super Bowl 47 champion.

Tomorrow we begin a new season. As I write here many fans and even some teams will study the Ravens and 49ers to see if they can find clues or reasons both those teams are Super and everyone else, well, isn't.

So I gave you my opinion. What's your's?

What must happen for the Dolphins to become a Super Bowl team? No, I don't believe the distance between them and the playoffs is that great. Three or four more wins and the Dolphins are a playoff team. But a Super Bowl team?

That gulf is wide, in my opinion.

Still, can the Dolphins bridge that gap in a couple of years, as the 49ers went from 6-10 in 2010 to the NFC championship game in 2011 and the Super Bowl today?

What must happen for that to happen?

You guys may have already mentioned it but Wannstedt is now the special teams coach for the Bucs.

Dolfan Rick | February 04, 2013 at 05:21 PM

Still tapping the HELL out of the UM BUDDY system hooking up now with Butch Davis UM OL/OC Schiano, pays to have friends, hey?

"When and if Philbin gets 95 NFL wins"

Check again. Wanny got 82 wins in the NFL as a head coach and it took him 9 years.

Lets revisit this conversation in 8 years because this is moronic to say the least. "Wanny might be better than Philbin because he has accomplished more".

Why does no one see how ridiculous this statement is?

People complaining about Alicia Keyes' rendition of the National Anthem yesterday. I heard nothing wrong with It and she was not lip-synching. A little slow but It is not the Battle Hymn of the Republic. I liked it. I guess to each its own.

Just because you don't think he's one of the better SLOT receivers in the league doesn't make it true.

"Even in lesser passing offenses like Jacksonvillle and Miami, players like Devone Bess and Cecil Shorts are shining."

Peter Bokowski, senior analyst, NFL the magazine.

Posted by: Phins78 | February 04, 2013 at 04:49 PM

First of all, I would take Cecil Shorts over Bess in repalacement any day. He has far more homerun ability.

Secondly, I said if a guy like Bailey or Swoops were available 3rd rd I would replace Bess.

Thirdly, I said I would not wan a wr corps with Bess and Hartline as 2/3 of the integral core. Just adding one very good wr to a corp of Bess Hartline isnt much upgrading the entire unit.

You cant have 2 of your 3 wr's not being td threats and think youve solved your wr problems. DC's will double your best wr's and dare Bess or Hartline to score on them.

With this Im done talking wr on this blog. I pray we get just what you guys are asking for so that you sulk in your shame. Even if at the expense of the team I love.

Still, after over a decade of mediocruty, Ive learned to move on. Football is a part of my life, not my entire life. Only fools and those being well paid would make it so.

DONKEYS

I know Aloco, didn't mean to address that whole post to you. It was for the general mood revolving around Marino in here.

I'm just so tired of hearing criticisms from people who couldn't throw a ball over 20 yards. But I see where you're coming from bud.

We would've won a Super Bowl during the Wannstedt years with a better QB and a better Coach.

I now pray we sign 1 fa wr, resign Hartline, and keep Bess. Just seeing this on paper gives me a woodie for the sb. Yoohoo!

Yes, Im being very sarcastic. LOL...

Under Wannstedt, the Dolphins regular season record was 42-31, with 2 playoff appearances.

Ireland must go, as soon as possible.

SF had game in their pocket at the end. The play calling was terrible. It should have be four runs to averate 1.5 yards each for a victory,Ravens were already tired, or Kap rolling out to pass or run each time..They'd have won the dang game.

YG/PHINS/FIN4LIFE........

SOME BLOGGERS R SAYING , (( WE R NOT FAR OFF )).......

IS THAT YOUR VIEW ALSO ????

We would've won a Super Bowl during the Wannstedt years with a better QB and a better Coach.

The Woodshed Gang | February 04, 2013 at 05:44 PM

If you add a game breaking WR we would have at least seriously competed for one.

Unhappiest guy alive yesterday?

Cam Cameron.

Guys I have to address this because I have seen more than one post about Beyonce lip syncing the national anthem. I just want to put out a different view here.

First of all she had no rehearsal with the orchestra. She had no clue as to the timing of the song, how they would play it, where they would take pauses, etc.

This was a nationally televised event. Beyonce's voice is her bread and butter, she is a professional musician. She's not going to take the chance of hurting her stock by singing the national anthem at a presidents inauguration without a rehearsal. They didn't have time for it and this was a last minute decision, the right decision imo.

Does anyone seriously think Beyonce can't sing? The women has pipes man! The only reason (other than what I stated) to lip sync is to cover for a God awful voice. Is that what people were suggesting she was doing?

Come on already. This happens ALL OF THE TIME in the music industry. "Why don't the stones do it then man?!" Because as good as they are as Rock and Roll musicians no one has EVER stated with a serious face that Micfreakin Jagger has a beautiful voice. He's got a great rock voice, but honestly (and I don't even like hip hop) he's not even close when it comes to the range Beyonce has.

fin4life,

Yeah we were both way off and I lost my shirt on it. SF just didn't do the things they needed to win. Part of it was Kaepernick, part of it was the playcalling and part of it was the WRs didn't catch the ball when they should have. But the defence I thought (especially in the first half) was AWFUL. This GREAT defence that we keep hearing about. They're not. The secondary was picked apart all night and really made no plays at all.

Still the game was there for them at the end and they couldn't get it done with 4 cracks from the 6. I thought the playcalling at the end was really sad.

I now pray we sign 1 fa wr, resign Hartline

I'm glad you were kidding because resigning Hartline to be a #2 receiver when he is a #3 at best would be crazy.

YG what is the going rate for #2 receivers in the league?

Anybody know if Cam Cameron gets a ring or a share of the winnings?

They should give one to the DB in Denver who fell sown and handed the Ravens the game. Was it Rahim Moore? Maybe he'll be a Dolphin next year....LOL.

Dashi....

You do need to MAN UP.....and show FLACCO some love....

If the Ravens had LOST....I can only imagine that you would have crashed the blog with EXCLAMATION POINTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Happiest guy alive yesterday.....

Alex Smith....

ALoco the Dolphins went from 1-15 to 11-5.

Are you suggesting the possibility for a quick turnaround for the Dolphins doesn't exist? And if so what is your reasoning?

For the record, YES, I absolutely believe the Dolphins could turn it around. No one knows for sure but there are always ifs that can work out. Sooner or later things will change in Miami.

I swear sometimes I feel like there are a lot of young people in here who don't remember how the NFL works. Teams get good, sustain that for a while and then other teams get good. We all know that right?

The Patriots were the joke of the league for many decades. Did their fans give up? Did their fans think it was never going to change? I bet some did, and I bet none of them will admit it now. "I was a believer the whole time, I knew things would change!"

Yeah right.

KRIS...

DASHI IS A SELF CENTERED MAN,HE POSTS EVERY THING AROUND HIMSELF.....

HE PICKED DENVER TO WIN IT ALL,,,HE HAS NO DIGNITY OR HONOR TO ADMIT HE'S WRONG .....

Right on Kris.

I'm so torn about Alex.

I'm still bitter he kind of used us only to be screwed over by Harbaugh. But I'm also happy he gets to say "hey, I would have won it don't look at me"! lol

Also, did you hear what Ed Reed said to him on the field after the game?

"Go find a team to lead, you deserve it".

Class act that Ed Reed.

Still the game was there for them at the end and they couldn't get it done with 4 cracks from the 6. I thought the playcalling at the end was really sad.

Craig M | February 04, 2013 at 05:55 PM

Yeah on 1st down they hand it to James for a nice 3 Yrd. pick up then for some reason with N'gata out and the Ravens dead tired they kept rolling Kap out to pass in that short space that definitely benefited Balt.

It's worth noting that the DB culprit were Nickle Back Culliver because Brown and Carlos Rodgers battled then the 2 Safety's who I felt the best young tandem in the League were constantly caught out of Pos. when not blowing Tackles or getting out-physical-ed because I was shocked at their particular performance.

On that note DO NOT SIGN ED REED!

I know he's great but I just worry about his drive. Does he still have the passion for the game? Could he possibly after all he has accomplished?

He was even quoted as saying he is contemplating retirement.

RED FLAG!

PHINS.........I NEED FIN4 LIFE AND YG HELP TO ANSWER THIS Q ,

HOW LONG IT TAKE TO TURN A TEAM AROUND TO BE A STEADY PLAYOFF TEAM FIRST ,THEN BECOMS A SB WINNER ......

LIKE THE ,
RAVENS
PATS////

PS.... IT'S TAKING THE FINS ABOUT 35 YEARS AND STILL GOING..

Phins78,

wWho really even gives a F u c k if Beyonce lip synched yesterday. All of the tickets purchase were to watch the game, not Beyonce.

Plus, prior to paying her the million dollar check, Im sure the the payer of the check knew exactly what they would be getting.

If anyone sitting at home felt disappointed, they need to remember watcvhing the games cost them absolutely nothing. So why give a f u c k if she lip synched or song live. It was the sb, not Beyonce in concert.

YG..THEY PAID HER A MILLION DOLLARS TO HELP WITH THE RATINGS ,NOR THE SONG.........

WE LIVE IN A TIME WHERE EVERY THING BECOMES FAKE .......

LIKE ... (( MADE IN CHINA )),,,,,,,,,

"Who really even gives a F u c k if Beyonce lip synced yesterday."

Exactly, but people won't stop talking about it. Unbelievable. Free entertainment and people still complain.

DID JENFFER HUDSON CHANGED THE COLOR OF HER SKIN LIKE M. JACKSON ?

Kapernick has the nicest thighs and ass I've seen on an NFL player since Jerry Rice. He is FINE!

The key Play was that timeout Jim H called because they were going to get flagged for too much time. Strictly on Kapernick but he was going to run the ball by design for the 1st time in the Game and probably would have scored. They showed their hand and never recovered. I called that outcome. That's it..

DID ANY ONE NOTICE ALL THE KIDS WHO SANG WERE ALL WHITE ?

I guess Dashis '95 per cent always right completion', just took another hit. What's he down to now?

Is he still clamouring for us to pick T'eo at 12 (or was it a trade up) and is he still bashing Dansby as 'not even a top 15 LBer'.

Where is he today? Hungover?

ALoco,

I made a post to you about "How far away this team is. It did not post. this blog is crazy sometimes.

Basically it was because of being rated 5th best in points allowed thats the most important stat a d can have. We finished similar to the Ravens and SF in sacks. We just need far more turnovers on defense.

Offensively, add 2wr's, 2 seamthreat TE's. As you saw yesterday most good offensive teams now have 2 TE's that can attack the seam. We've yet to get 1.

Then we need to add 2 "very good olinemen. Exactly why I wuld rather sign Albert and Levitrie, foregoing signing a wr. We can draft 2 wr's.

We also need "powerback" in our rb rotation whether we resign Bush or not.

So that's 7 players we're away on offense alone. Far worse than we are on defense.

YG is very hostile and bitter lately. Why is he cursing about Beyonce?? Why is he so hateful others have an opinion?

ALoco good luck on getting an answer for that.

For me, I don't think there is a set formula. There is no rule per say.

Some teams that won did it very quickly.

Some teams did it over a long period of time.

Some teams have never won a Super Bowl.

Some teams like the Dolphins, Steelers, Cowboys, 49ers have won multiple super bowls, in a row.

There is no rule, this is football, this is the NFL, THE PARODY LEAGUE.

How long did it take the Pats to be a perennial playoff team?

Art Modell moved his team before they became a perennial contender.

It's all about player acquisition and it's not an exact science. Philbin stated this at the end of the year. Said it's all about the players and they need better players. They haven't won a super bowl in 35 years. Name all of the other teams that haven't won one in that time. Why haven't they? When will they turn it around? Who knows.

Here was my favorite quote said by a fellow baseball fan. " The New York Yankees will never win a world series with Alex Rodriguez".

Ya just never know.

Aloco,

What's with all the black and white comments? Sounds like you're the only one who notice. I'm guessing there's a point to these comments?

YG now writing long posts to Aloco, the guy he puts down and pisses on most of the time.

ALoco,

Everything I but I check where its made. If it says "CHINA" I will not buy it. The Chinese are now even faking their fakes.

Never thought I would live to see the day where I needed to be careful of buying a fake of a fake. Made In China only baby! LOL...

YG,,,,

SO,WE R FAR OFF BY ABOUT 11 PLAYERS ........

THAT MEANS ,WE WILL BE IN THE CELLAR FOR UNTIL OUR GARAGE MANAGER IS GONE....

We are picky about Things.

ALoco,

Times have changed since Michael Jackson changed his skin color. Black people are now doing it by getting "white girls" pregnant.

One thing for sure, this offseason we'll find what Philbin really thinks of Hartline. If Hartline walks, best believe it was "glowingly endorsed" by Philbin.
It'll all be because Philbin feels Hartline doesnt have the needed ability to be great scoring threat in "his offense".

Posted by: Yesterday's Gones 4Ever! | February 04, 2013 at 02:55 PM

Noway can you have both Bess and Hartline as 2/3's of your wr corps. Neither produce tds. Its plain and simple insanity! LOL...

Posted by: Yesterday's Gones 4Ever! | February 04, 2013 at 02:56 PM
-------------------------------

YG, we get your dislike for Hartline. Nobody wants a **No.1** WR scoring only a TD.

Here's the problem, we have DESPERATE needs at OL, S, CB, LB, TE, DE and most of all WR.

We already need a No. 1 WR and you want to axe the only halfway decent WR we already have. Therefor of course, CREATING EVEN MORE needs.

Hartline had 74 catches for over a 1000 yards. The one TD sucks, but if Ireland does his job and finds us a true No.1, that could change for the better in a hurry. Any true no.1 will draw the most attention, including double coverage. And you can't argue that another receiver drawing doubles, SHOULD help present Hartline and Bess with more opportunities.

I think it would be better to keep Hartline(for a REASONABLE price)and try for a true No. 1, rather than creating more holes and counting on Ireland to fill them all in one off season.

After all, letting Hartline walk means Ireland would have to find us TWO quality receivers in ADDITION to another OL, LB, TE, S and CB.

FOZO,,,YOU R TALKING OF THE FAKE ALOCO (( ARMANDO )) ,,,,,,NOT ME .......

YG..........

WHEN I DREAMED TO COME TO THIS COUNTRY ,I WAS THINKING OF THE USA MADE CLOTHS,THINGS ,BUT WHEN I CAME ,I SAW EVERY THING ARE MADE IN CHINA ,BUT FOR THE RECORD,I WILL NEVER AND EVER ,I WOULD BUT ANY THING MADE IN CHINA ............THE WORST ..

PS...DO YOU BELIVE THAT GARLIC SOLD IN SHOPS AND TO HOTELS ARE COMING FOR CHINA AND YOU HAVE TO TELL THE VENDOR ,I WANT THE CA GARLIC ,NOT THE CHINESE ,..

NOPE!

We sign on in FA **AND** draft one no later than the 2nd round.

The problem you seem to struggle with, is that this isn't your Madden Game. Ireland can't do EVERYTHING in one off season.

Let Hartline walk and it turns out our drafted WR doesn't contribute right away and suddenly YOU'RE counting on a FA vet and Bess on the outside!

Dream on regarding the Superbowl, regarding the playoff maybe. Wake up Armando.

odi, please let us know in advance if you are going to start talking filthy so we can all leave.
