What must happen for the Dolphins to be Super Bowl good?

The NFL season ends today with the crowning of the Super Bowl 47 champion.

Tomorrow we begin a new season. As I write here many fans and even some teams will study the Ravens and 49ers to see if they can find clues or reasons both those teams are Super and everyone else, well, isn't.

So I gave you my opinion. What's your's?

What must happen for the Dolphins to become a Super Bowl team? No, I don't believe the distance between them and the playoffs is that great. Three or four more wins and the Dolphins are a playoff team. But a Super Bowl team?

That gulf is wide, in my opinion.

Still, can the Dolphins bridge that gap in a couple of years, as the 49ers went from 6-10 in 2010 to the NFC championship game in 2011 and the Super Bowl today?

What must happen for that to happen?

My bad, just reread your post. Glad he didnt choose the Dolphins either. LOL.....

I liked It.

John Harbaugh blew this game, if I was Ozzie I fire him after this game for putting in Caldwell and furring Cam camoron. They when conservative in the second half and that doesn't show a great coach! Plus he had his chances and didnt work out! Fire him

Even more evidence ray is one dumb fuh.

Why would they weep for me dumbass? I am a Dolphins fan who was rooting for the Ravens to beat Jim Harbaugh and the 49ers.

Well...GN.

Harbaugh? Young Shula?

Looks more like the "old Shula" who always fell just short. LOL................................

Scott in CT,

See this post. LOL....

Nothing new, so does Satan. LOL...

No one chokes more than Odin. He's a swallower.

Great game. On display tonight were two teams that really know how to draft players. I can only hope that we sign a couple of FA's that played in this game like Cary Williams & Delanie Walker.

It wasn't really a very good game. The 9'ers did not play good D and could not run. They had a flash streak in the second half but missed lots of opportunities and the play calling at first and goal from the 5 was terrible.

The Ravens are one of the weakest SB winners in many years.

Anquan should have been the MVP. He saved Joe Flaccid.

I think they need about ten more players because they will lose some this off-season.If the Dolphins make it to the super bowl it will require a lot of good decisions by the suits in the off-season.

Ross is well aware it will be a hail mary for Ireland to make enough of the right calls to aquire the players to make it in a couple of years,so he is hedging his bets by fixing up the stadium with the help of the GOV.That way at least HIS STADIUM will experience the fat lady singing.

And HIS POCKETS Will be weighed down by the Loot he banks on the BOWL.

Anquan should have been the MVP. He saved Joe Flaccid.

Ted,

I couldn't agree more. Flacco is NOT an elite QB but Anquan Boldin is a flat out stud.

IMO--With all of the players that the Ravens are going to lose on defense I'd be surprised if Flacco ever gets back to a SB.

The zebras missed the call on the corner route by the 49ers on their last play the defensive back was holding long before the ball sailed over his head. How can that bonehead ref allow such egregious infringement of the rules on a play in the end zone.

Hey Jim, karma sucks.....really feel bad that a crybaby, immature, unprofessional a$! of a coach didnt get the win--maybe you can stomp your feet and throw your papers up in the air a few more times, to see if it would help......now you're whining about the refs--last play coulda gone either way, coulda been offensive PI just as easy--how about this.....if your team didnt fall behind by 22 points, and then have an awful bunch of play calling on that last series, maybe you wouldnt have needed the refs to bail you out on 4th down......whiner.

Flacco is on his way to the HOF folks...

What must happen is simple... its not really that complicated. After 4 loosing seasons, (below average loosing seasons), its obvious Jeff Ireland cannot find talented playmakers. Sooooooo...... Ross needs to pluck his head out of his ass and finally realize it and say goodbye to Jeffyboy!

Boldin would probably still be a Fin if they hadn't picked Marshall.

Everyone said Boldin was TOO slow. But why does it seem that he's open and making incredible catches most of the time?

Jacoby Jones? I believe the Fins had their crack at getting him. They also had a crack at getting Pitta (and several other TE in the same draft).

This season will definitely be Ireland's make or break season. Fans won't put up with "what-if" excuses.

Ireland has more busts then Dolly Parton!!!!!!!!!!

Is there nothing else here anyone can talk about other than to complain about Ireland? Is Ireland your whole life?

It's well past boring already.

If Irescum has half a brain he'll replace Tannehill with a good FA QB or trade for one. That being said, I'm not sure he has half a brain.

So I guess all you whiny losers now are going to say we should have picked Flacco #1, now that Matt Ryan has shown to be no better than an average QB that chokes when it counts.

When Ireland wasted 3 picks on D Thomas the draft room broke out in hysterical laughter.

Sometimes the title "ELITE QB" can be far overrated. Isnt the job of an elite qb to at somepoint get his team to and win a SB?

Call Flacco what you want, he did what we expect an elite qb to do, get his team to and win a sb game.

BTW, wasnt Marino and "elite qb"? Soooooooo....... how many sb championship rings does Dan Marino own? ZERO!!!!!!

Flacco got his team thru the playoff rds and climaxed it with a sb championship. We could really use a "non-elite qb like Flacco in Miami. Capiche?

A QB that is 1-10 in road playoff games is not elite...

You guys need to cut the crap, when seeing players play great, saying "we could have had ths or that guy".

Point is, in most cases, so could at least 30 other nfl teams. Only 1 team can land a player. Hell, they're many other "crappy nfl players" we could have had and passed on too.

Anyway, that was a great game. But it showed me how far away the Dolphins are from being a good team. Dont see it happening with Ireland and Ross. GN dudes.

Yeah I forgot....Trent Dilfer's an 'elite' QB too because he won a Super Bowl with the Ravens in 2000. Yeah right!!....

And don't forget about Doug Williams.....'elite' all the way!!

And the guys that QB'ed the Panthers and Bears to Super Bowl appearances JUST missed out on being 'elite'. Close one guys....

Maybe you should try reading all the posts 2 or 3 times.

You either have some comprehension problems(complicated by being a lush no doubt), or you're the DuMMest Mutha Fvcka on this blog. Probably both judging from the available evidence.

Sorry, but I have to call it like it is.

Oh yeah......LOL THAT DikWad!

ARMANDO:

YOU KINDA PROVED MY POINT I BEEN MAKING FOR YEARS..

BRANDON MARSHALL NEEDED HELP.

WHEN YOU LOOK AT THESES TEAMS HARTLINE WOULDN't BE THE THIRD WR.

WE NEED PLAYMAKERS AND HARTLINE IS FAR FROM THAT.

THE BAD THING IS HARTLINE IS OUR BEST WR.

GET RID OF HIM AND THE REST AND START OVER.

ANYONE WHO SAW THIS GAME CAN SEE WE NEED PLAYERS WHO WILL FIGHT FOR MORE THAN THE D IS WILLING TO GIVE.

SORRY HARTLINE AND BESS GOES DOWN WAY TO EASY.

ENOUGH SAID.

I've seen guys say it was a 'great game'. I didn't think it was a great game. The Niners didn't seem to be able to do the things they should have been able to do and didn't wake up until the power went out.

Congrats to the Ravens and Flacco. I can't take anything away from their victory.

It us totally a mental thing. Winning comes with attitude. And attitude of never giving up and playing every down, every second of every game with love of what the pleyer is doing. Preparing for every game as hard as the player can prepare. For the most part that will beat talent 9 times out of 10.
The Phins showed glimpses of that a few games this year but showed us again that they will lay down for Brady. It is almost as if they believe Vegas that they shouldn't win.
Our so called team is still not ready for top flight free agents.
So I would sign some of the teams Vets but not overpay. Add some incentive in there. Then if the team shows management they are ready for the next step, go for big money free agents. But only a couple.

I DON't THINK WE ARE THAT FAR OFF.

CBs WERE BURNT THE WHOLE GAME BY THE WRs.

THAT's WHY I SAID WE SHOULD DRAFT 3 IN A ROW.

1st AND BOTH 2ndS SHOULD BE WRs.

WE NEED MORE BUT WE NEED PLAYMAKERS.

TDs WIN GAMES AND WRs MAKE MORE TDs THAN CB LB O-LINE AND PASS RUSHERS PUT TOGETHER.

Sorry I didnt break out the "speak and spell" for you. My post was only pointing out that the name of the game is to "win a sb".

I wouldnt give a damn if we didnt have "an elite" qb in Miami if we could win a sb. Would winning a sb in Miami be tarnished because our qb wasnt considered elite?

Last I checked, they didnt place asterik marks next to sb winner who didnt have an elite qb.

KIDRY:

MENTAL TRUMPS TALENT?

I THINK NOT.

IF I RAN A 4.2 AND YOU RAN A 5.6 I DON't CARE HOW PREPARED YOU ARE YOU WILL LOSE 10 OUT OF 10.

WE NEED FIGHTERS. SCRAPERS. PLAYMAKERS.

OUR WRs ARE SOFT.

CraigM,

If you would start paying closer attention yourself, you will find that everytime you enter the blog, your post is about something you find to attack that happened before you entered.

What the hell is your woodie on entering the blog so akwardly? Plus you didnt accurately comprehend what my post even meant. Geesh, its a time with you sometimes. LOL...

YG Schitzo is admonishing Craig for his posts being awkward. Then adds a comment about comprehension lol.

YG is barely coherent at this point. I agree with odin on this one. YG exhibits traits of ignorance and alchoholism. Not a good combination.

Get Anquan Boldin.

YG WHY YOU ALWAYS ACCUSE PEOPLE OF BEING RACISTS?

APOLOGIZE TO THE GREAT LES FOR YOUR DRUNKEN ABSURDITIES.

NOW.

I HAVE SPOKEN.

YG WHEN YOU AND ALOCO CUDDLE TOGETHER ARE YOU THE WOMAN?

READING YOUR POSTS I WOULD GUESS YOU ARE THE WOMAN.

NOTHING WORSE THAN A DRUNKEN OLD LUSH THAT PRETEND HE WOMAN.

APOLOGIZE TO GOOD POSTERS AND ASK FORGIVENESS.

Firing Ireland would go a long way toward bridging the gap.

As a respected medical professional, my diagnosis is that Ireland is the cause of what ails the Fins, and his firing a critical part of the cure.

Is Philbin as good a Coach as either of the Harbaughs? Hmm... There were flashes but... We'll find out soon enough.

Realistically the Dolphins aren't going to get there anytime soon. They are in continual player deficit mode. One unit or another is always so devoid of even average level talent that they never stand a chance, which is why the past decade has largely been one terrible season after another.

Last year the Dolphins dumped their number one receiver and number one corner and as a result both areas were painfully thin. This year they're going to dump the number one running back, and maybe the best offensive lineman and corner again. Also Hartline is a free agent, they still need an answer at TE, and the entire secondary needs an upgrade. Unless something completely out of the established norm happens then 2013 is another year where the Dolphins will consider being .500 as a huge success.

Forever terrible.

I buy parakeets and cut their wings off. Sometimes I drop one into a pot of boiling water.

Don't know. Perhaps engineer trades, some of our good Players for better Players that fit our System better, selected FAs that are sure things to work within Philbin's philosophy, move up, draft the Best, etc. True, if we keep filling in the holes we'll never finish with it. Better turn the whole Page.

What a strange SB...I was glad the 49ers made a game of it (even though I wanted the Ravens to win), but my God...First thing the NFL should do is get rid of CBS...Man they suck...I mean, aside from Bill Cowher, these guys are awful...Dan Marino, my favorite Dolphin ever...But as a commentator? Pass. And how in the world did Shannon Sharpe end up with a job on tv??? He sounds like he's got a potato in his mouth...Terrible...You listen to this guy talk and you'd think you're in south central LA or something...Just awful...The SB would be much better on FOX...No comparison at all...

And Phil Simms...Good Lord...Can't they replace this guy or something?? I like on the most important play of the game he changes his mind and says he's now "confused"...Made me think of someone on this blog...LOL!!!!

Can Madden still talk? boom! Great commentator
Let's bring back Howard Cosell " look at the monkey run" Al Michael Bret Musburger Is Pat Summerall liver still functioning? Keith Jackson Dick Enberg!

Long ways from the super bowl, perhaps a playoff team next year, but like it was mentioned earlier get rid of Bush and you get rid of your only real playmaker, good teams add talent on top of talent. Losing Marshall hurt our passing game this past year and if Reggie goes same thing with the run game, I just don't think Jeff is up to it , he is just an average GM at best.

1st, Need a QB. Tannehill is not it.

How on earth we passed on Wilson and Kapernick is crazy.

Dashi....

You still wanna compare SB CHAMPION...and SB MVP Joe Flacco to DRAFT HOPEFUL Geno Smith....

I mean...c'mon man.....

now I gotta really re-look @ all that Dansby hate.....

Jacoby Jones drafted 3rd round. Ireland can't draft. He's barely an average GM with the biggest off season in franchise history in his hands. Lord help us...

The Dolphins have no chance in hell until 3 years after Ireland is fired and a decent GM can acquire talent.

now I gotta really re-look @ all that Dansby hate.....
Posted by: Kris | February 04, 2013 at 08:37 AM

As noted, I dislike Dansby because of his price and hype and lack of playmaker/pro bowl results that his money dictates he should be getting (as with Burrnet)

But we clearly whiffed on Flacco. If QBs were such a premium that year we should have snatched him and not have waited and hoped he fell to us. I always considered him a game-manager up until this season. The guy is great.

BUT he has a speedster receiver, a possession receiver, and a good TE (not great, but efficiant). Maybe there is hope if we can get the same. Took Flacco 4 years to get there while surrounded by a great overall team. Maybe the rookie curve hasn't changed and these Wilson's, Newton's, RGIII's, and Luck's are having some beginner's luck?

Miami D....

I disagree....Flacco has been consistent since his first days in the league...with a playoff win in ALL 5 years....

his last TWO playoff losses weren't even on him.....he placed a game WINNING TD pass in HOUSHMANZADA's hands 2 years ago against PITT and HOUSH dropped it....

Last year another don't let a NE DB strip him as Flacco completed ANOTHER GAME WINNING TD pass.....

Don't let the media tell you who Flacco is....go back and look @ his play....and see what you have...

I watched Flacco @ Ravens practice....the guy puts the BALL in the SAM SPOT..rep after rep..after rep......receivers don't have to guess where the ball is going to be....they just need to get to the spot.....

I'm not saying Flacco is the greatest...but I have been defending him on this blog for quite some time...as Craig M and Dashi can surely tell you......
