What must happen for the Dolphins to be Super Bowl good?

The NFL season ends today with the crowning of the Super Bowl 47 champion.

Tomorrow we begin a new season. As I write here many fans and even some teams will study the Ravens and 49ers to see if they can find clues or reasons both those teams are Super and everyone else, well, isn't.

So I gave you my opinion. What's your's?

What must happen for the Dolphins to become a Super Bowl team? No, I don't believe the distance between them and the playoffs is that great. Three or four more wins and the Dolphins are a playoff team. But a Super Bowl team?

That gulf is wide, in my opinion.

Still, can the Dolphins bridge that gap in a couple of years, as the 49ers went from 6-10 in 2010 to the NFC championship game in 2011 and the Super Bowl today?

What must happen for that to happen?

I find it odd that Ireland FINALLY acknowledged this by drafting Olivier Vernon & Miller this year. I guess it's better late than never....

The most inexcusable part is the fact that in the JJ and Wannstedt ERA's the U was Coached by their DL Coach through the Yrs. (Butch Davis) and you would think they would have had the inside track considering they were all part of the UM/Dallas Hey Day.

Kapernick has such a hot body. Seriously, he's an Adonis with those perfect biceps, abs and that AWESOME butt. God, what I wouldn't give to just take a shower with that dude--even if I could only watch him lather that hunky chest of his up or see the water cascading down his rippled torso.

Flacco is a mutt, but good QB.

F u c k Marino.

With each passing year his name fall deeper into obscurity. His records have fallen, and most recently, so has the grace associated with his name.

Trent Dilfer contributed far more to the Ravens than Marino to the Dolphins. Dilfer may not have won the sb for the Ravens, but, he did his job, and didnt lose that sb game for the Ravens.

dDilfer also contributes more as a tv analyst than stone faced, tongue locked Marino. Marino is an overated greatly devalued POS in my eyes today. Again:

F U C K DAN MARINO!

Gimme some BOB GRIESE BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mark @2:45pm,

Tom Cheek.....such a kind man. I interviewed him after his first brain surgery and you could tell he just wasn't as sharp as he used to be but he still handled everything with grace and class, like you'd expect.

It was about a month later, on a Sunday, when I'd heard, driving home one night that John Cerutti had been found dead in his hotel room. Haunting stuff....I'd just stood face to face with him asking questions of him, less than a month earlier. This guy was VERY much 'alive' when I spoke with him. Couldn't help but think how well spoken and intelligent this guy was. Real shame!!

With that Im out. LOL...

WNP, Huizenga was never a cheapskate like Ross is. And he didnt meddle like Ross does. Granted, they both have made terrible hires.

"Hey Day??"

LOL. Take a remedial English class, ok? Jesus.

Posted by: Forth of Jew Ly | February 04, 2013 at 03:21 PM

"Hey dey". Youre a very smart man. LOL...

Where is the evidence that Ross is a 'cheap skate'. If you're going to make claims like that at least back it up. Guy seems to be spendig millions on upgrades with the stadium and always seems to big any remaining tickets so that games can be on TV. So what's this claim based on?

Because we didn't sign any big name FAs last year? You've heard of a salary cap, right? You know we were tight to the cap, right? Maybe you need re-think your stance.

It's one word ('heyday') and periods always go INSIDE quotation marks.

Chris Berman is a flaccid penis.

Craig,

I find those comments as annoying as you do. Rather than having blackouts on television he ALWAYS buys up the remaining tix & didn't the guy just offers to put up over $200 Million to renovate the stadium??? Sounds like a real tight wad.

BTW--If Ross is cheap then wtf is Jeffrey Loria of the Marlins???

In a big game I'd take Griese over Marino.

Right on WNPs,

It's the same crap from some of these guys day after day....

No basis for any of it.

Loria has brought us a World Championship. And he offered Albert Puljos 230 MILL GUARANTEED! Thats hardly cheap.

Phinmanksi, you piece of shorn forgotten foreskin.

Dilfer to Marino, think you're a smart azzzzzz

Well after 7 years, marshall's numbers are 612 rec, 7.755 yards, 45 tds.

First 7 years of Boldin's career 586 rec, 7,520 yards, and 44 tds.

So your mighty Brandon marshall has produced exactly 26 more catches 235 more yards and 1 more td over 7 years - not per year, SEVEN years. IN addition, Boldin isn't one tenth the headcase that POS Marshall is.

So you can go on sukking Marhsall's cokkkk and being a troll. When you have something grown up to add, speak. Until then, shut up and get back to the kids table you piece of trash. This is hardly a Dilfer v marino comparison. You're dismissed ...

Mark, thanks for poving my point. Marshall > Boldin

And Marshall had Henne as his QB. haha

BTW--If Ross is cheap then wtf is Jeffrey Loria of the Marlins???

We Need Playmakers | February 04, 2013 at 03:35 PM

Loria will forever be the man who took the City of Miami on the ride of the Century with alot of City Employee pension Money tied into that Ball park on what was always to me Hallowed ground given it was the sight of some of Miami's greatest Pro and College Sports memories.

I can't drive into Downtown or the Beach without cringing everytime I look at that Stadium. The lies about the Franchise being broke when in fact later proven they were making good money ect...

It's a real miracle given the BAD taste in everybody's mouth still so fresh that the Dolphins were able to make there City concession deal done. You know it's funny they can parade players before Congress under the threat of incarceration but the CON job Loria, Beinfest and Samson pulled with out right lies gets a pass, I wonder how much money flowed under that table!

I only proved that you're a knob. Henne for two.

Hmmm, Boldin had these qbs while he broke in the league his first two years ...

2004 Josh McCown (13) / Shaun King (2) / John Navarre (1) [9]
2003 Jeff Blake (13) / Josh McCown (3)

Canton isn't breathing down on McCown or end of the road Jeff Blake's trail.

Just stop directing stupidity at me and you'll be saved further embarassment.

ZERO playoff games for Marshall ... just like ZERO brain cells for Phinmanski .... DOLT!

"Loria has brought us a World Championship. And he offered Albert Puljos 230 MILL GUARANTEED! Thats hardly cheap."

He's a thief. He's been lying about the Marlins finances for years & he cost the taxpayers of Miami & Miami-Dade County over $500 Million to build a new stadium. So what does he do for an encore--he slashes salaries...What a free spending, benevolent guy!!!

Mark, clueless in Canada. Figures. haha

So I'd posted a list from ESPN's website of the top 40 players in our division. Looks like post didn't make it through. We did fine having 11 players on the list (the Pats had 13). Seems to be a pretty good representation of where we are talent-wise. Time to add some more stars and close the gap.

Check out the list if you get a chance.

The City of Toronto thanks Mr. Loria for his donation of star players to the Blue Jays roster. Only his generosity could lead to the first inkling of sports optimism in Toronto since 1993.

Ross is the thief. He's been stealing from Dolfans for years.

Phinmanski, nice retort. Back to the playground with you bunghole.

Fin4life,

I was just reading about the Marlins owner. He always seemed like a jerk but this guy should REALLY be in jail. Going all the way back to the days when he bought the Expos--this guy is a real piece of sh#t.

Has Irescum been fired yet?

The Detroit Lions released Titus Young today. I forget who wanted this guy but there he is....available.

Count Detroit as one of the teams that will be looking at WR in the draft and FA. Perhaps they'll want to be in on Jennings.

tannehenne needs help.
hennetanne needs this.tannereach needs that?
wtf, y???????.

Mark,

From a thought I had earlier regarding things to ponder that render the Marshall-Boldin debate mute among others topics regarding the real 800 Pd. Gorilla in the room for me starts at the top!

It just happens to be our luck that after Jerry said anybody could Coach Dallas in 94 and alot of speculation that JJ had done it with his core Florida group that Johnson decides to ignore no-brainer pick R.Lewis in the 96 draft and took Baylor DT D.Gardner. He gets the pass because he finds Zach RD-5 that draft but while Thomas was a very good player Lewis is the G.O.A.T. at MLB and with all do respect when taking leadership along with ability into account Zach couldn't carry Ray's jock.

His BFF Wannstedt would pass on Brees for in his words the need for a Nickle back taking Jamar Fletcher. The Ricky trade hurt terribly given in 02 we could have drafted Ed Reed RD-1 while taking Clinton Portis RD-2. I know the could've should've stuff means nothing in hindsight but these were players in our backyard that for whatever reasons were ignored and would've made an enormous difference in our teams fortunes over the last decade and a half and I still haven't gotten into passing on FSU's Anquan Boldin RD-2 taking LB Eddie Moore who would NEVER start a down for us.

This is what haunted me about the game last night given the connections both Wannstedt (UM DC under JJ) and JJ had to the U and Fl. talent in general. I understand some of you don't live in Fl. but those that do understand my frustration at the Dolphins F.O.'s over the Yrs. ignoring their backyard talent in some no-brainer picks. Coaches make a difference as the inexperience of Jim Harbaugh on that last goal line stand proved calling some God awful plays but we could have had the talent to make better runs and consistently pass on the in-State talent which always seems on display come the S.B. Calais Campbell of Arz. for Merling and even F.Gore are other examples in a parade of them.

Henne > Tannehill

t. young is a complete idiot

f4l, there's no doubt we've had some of the worst talent acquisition departments in the NFL - and that was way before Ireland and Co. If anything Ireland has been a marked improvement.

Those other guys go down as some of the worst ever .. especially Wansstedt. He himself is the worst talent evaluator in my time ... easily. Ruined both the bears and dolphins.

Dusty, that's for sure. This guy is even a bigger headcase than Marshall if it can be believed. At least Marshall tries hard - he's retarded and does lots of harm, but he does try. Young just thinks he's entitled to everything and doesn't want to put the work in. Forget him.

not sure wanny really ruined us. he won a playoff game with jay fiedler and many more games. usually had a winning record. he wasnt anything special but least won more games than he lost

"The Detroit Lions released Titus Young today. I forget who wanted this guy but there he is....available.

Count Detroit as one of the teams that will be looking at WR in the draft and FA. Perhaps they'll want to be in on Jennings."

Craig,

Titus Young is a nightmare. The rumor in Detroit is they want Hartline.

Yeah but Mark,

Don't you know, 'Ireland's the worst GM ever'. 'Nobody's had more busts than him'. It HAS to be true. It's all we read here, day after day.

Funny to hear guys calling for Titus Young. The guy IS in fact a headcase.

hartline is quickly becoming the most wanted free agent wr, they feel hes a little cheaper and just as good, very young. im guessing hes long gone from here

WNPs,

For all the bashing of Hartline that we read on here day, after day, there WILL be a market for Hartline. Contrary to some of the guys on here, I don't think the GMs around the league will be looking at this guy as 'a guy who only catches one TD a year'. There will be demand for his services.

Ireland had better get this one right. He can't afford to make a bunch of mistakes this year or he won't be back. Might be his toughest offseason yet.

jets and pats both want hartline badly

I never really understood the tremendous hate for Dave Wannstadt. He has a number of SB rings as an assistant. He's won almost 100 NFL games as well as a "Coach of the Year" honor with the Bears. And he had winning records for the Dolphins almost every year. He also acquired the best RB in Dolphin history. Quite a resume'. Clearly he was far better then the 3-4 coaches that followed him.

Come on Dusty, Wannstedt won with what JJ left him. He drafted three guys in Carey, Chambers, and McMicheal. That's it. In terms of TALENT ACQUISITION AND EVALUATION ... he's my all time worst. he also wona bit in Chicago with what was left for him but his drafting was abysmal. Curtis Enis anyone???

"So I'd posted a list from ESPN's website of the top 40 players in our division. Looks like post didn't make it through. We did fine having 11 players on the list (the Pats had 13). Seems to be a pretty good representation of where we are talent-wise. Time to add some more stars and close the gap.

Craig,

Unfortunately that list includes five players that are FA's & they might all be gone. Long??? Smith??? Bush??? Starks??? Hartline??? No idea.

BTW--Smith was listed ahead of Reshad Jones so that list should definitely be taken with a grain of salt.

wE NEVER HAD A SHOT AT ED REED WASNT HE A TOP 10 PICK

Titus Young was release you think Ireland would get his hand of is kock and sign him?

mark he had to take over a team just coming off losing marino, thats tough as balls, winning div title and playoff game with a guy named jay fiedler is very solid

ed reed went 24th for what its worth

wanny coached here for 5 season. wont 10 or games 3 times. had one losing record, 4 winning. better than anything we have had since for sure

Unfortunately that list includes five players that are FA's & they might all be gone. Long??? Smith??? Bush??? Starks??? Hartline??? No idea

I keep saying that some of the best values in the UFA market are our own FA's. Can't let most of these guys walk.

dusty. I never said COACH... I SAID TALENT EVALUATOR AND ACQUSITION. What don't you understand. ie. drafting, free agents... he hung on to the players JJ drafted until he used the wntire cap on our defense and couldn't draft the players we needed on offense to save his job .... literally. He should have never been allowed near a draft war room.

Tough calls in FA guys. I'd let Smith and Starks walk and only sign the other three if the price were to work.

but tough calls....no question.

oh i agree on that, no coach should ever draft his own players in my opinion

Those other guys go down as some of the worst ever .. especially Wansstedt. He himself is the worst talent evaluator in my time ... easily. Ruined both the bears and dolphins.

Mark in Toronto | February 04, 2013 at 04:02 PM

I know I've buried Ireland on here plenty and hold my breath considering I believe him a better Scouting Dir. than G.M. (Franchise builder) but whole heartily agree with you on Wannstedt.

It's the one thing that really soured me on JJ given I was and still am one of his biggest fans because I remember when he stepped down as H.C. he said given he was also Head Exec. that he would assume the G.M. role giving Wannstedt the H.C. Pos. which had become a grind.

A month passes and our G.M. went AWAL giving Wannstedt control by default before the Mueller/Speilman debacles. The minute Wannstedt had control I kept thinking about his trade for QB Steve Walsh (from JJ who fleeced him on it) for a couple of #1's. Anybody who saw Walsh at UM knew he was a great College player but like the lot at UF lacked the NFL arm.

It's been a VERY SAD parade since JJ flamed out on us and went running to his cushy FOX gig!

For all the bashing of Hartline that we read on here day, after day, there WILL be a market for Hartline. Contrary to some of the guys on here, I don't think the GMs around the league will be looking at this guy as 'a guy who only catches one TD a year'. There will be demand for his services.

Craig,

I have never wavered on this. Hartline is the only easy decision that Ireland has this off season. If Ireland lets Hartline walk then he's an idiot. It's that simple. We don't have any depth at WR as it is.

Ireland can't just let all of these guys walk out the door. Losing leaders like Bush & Long is not going to be great for team morale as it is but if the players see someone who is coming off his best season not get rewarded??? Then they're going to wonder if the team will take care of them when the time comes.

But dusty,

What did he do to ADD to what was already here? I think you'd agree that he took over JJ and Shula's team. It was shortly after he was gone that we ended up 1-15. Not sure he ADDED much when he was here. Fine to coach the team to victories but the talent acquisitions were questionable.

haha, oh Dusty ... sorry but Phinmanski had me rattled. And then I thought someone was coming to the aid of Wannstedt as a player personnel guy. That's enough to put me on tilt. Apologies for my tone.

"I keep saying that some of the best values in the UFA market are our own FA's. Can't let most of these guys walk."

Mark,

I don't know about 'values.' These guys are all looking for big contracts & they haven't all backed it up with their play this year.

wrong craig, he won 9 or more game his first 4 seasons here, his last and only losing one he went 1-8. shula or jj, neither left hoim a qb. he had to find ways to win with jay fiedler

« 1 2 ... 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 ... 19 20 »
