Branden Albert available as a LT option

During the NFL annual meeting, Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland talked about how everything is on the table as far as making the team better. He mentioned free agency in all its forms, from street free agents to top-end free agents to lower-rung free agents. Obviously he mentioned the draft.

And he mentioned trades.

And so I have to throw this out there now:

The Chiefs have left tackle Branden Albert on the trade market.

The Dolphins, who are moving up after deciding Jake Long and his questionable injury history were too pricey to retain for $8.5 million per season, need a left tackle. Yes, the club has Jonathan Martin on the roster and he finished out the 2012 season at the position. But as coach Joe Philbin said "there's a lot of time between now and September. A lot of things could happen ... "

Trades are one of those things that can happen. Specifically this trade. The Dolphins will at least be investigating the possibility and likely will be interested in pursuing it.

Albert is not cheap. The Chiefs want a second round pick for him this year, according to multiple reports. There is also the likelihood another conditional pick in 2014 could be involved.

That's a steep price.

And then you have to consider the Dolphins, or any team paying that compensation, would also have to sign Albert to a long-term deal. And that deal would probably cost aroud $8 million per year.

Expensive for a player I'm not all that certain is great. I mean, he's good enough that the Chiefs put a franchise tag on him. But he's not so good that they are unwilling to trade him. He's not so good that they clearly believe a rookie left tackle in the draft would be an upgrade because that player would be younger, cheaper and, yes, possibly a better player, too.

The Dolphins have two second-round picks. They also have two third round picks.

As the Kansas City asking price is a second-rounder, I might not mind offering a third. I doubt any third-rounder Miami picks up this year would start right away as Albert would so it might be a good deal for Miami.

At any rate it deserves consideration. And I'm sure the Dolphins are considering it.

Why ruin a good FA, so far, by signing fat Albert? 8 mil for a non-probower? Dont think so, but u never know what Jeffery is going to do

According to pft, Miami getting involved in Dummervil sweepstakes.

Miami has closed the gap with the Pats BIG time this offseason. Before some of these contracts may start to get purged in 2 years, Miami can challenge NE for the division.

NE has an injury prone slot guy and no one else outside. Stp their TE's and Brady may look mortal!

Miami was 7-9 & added an enormous amount of talent. If Tanny improves, Miami can be a factor. And if Ireland can draft well the next 2 drafts, Miami may be in the thick of it for the forseeable future.

Vacaro for Dolphins in 2013 !!!

I am coming to a game for the first time this year and staying near downtown Miami. Can you tell me if the subway goes to the stadium or near there? Otherwise I will take a taxi I guess.

Charlie--

The stadium is a long way from downtown (it's basically equidistant to Miami and Ft. Lauderdale).

The nearest Metrorail stop is about 5 miles south of the stadium, at Northside station. Not sure what a cab from there would run. Maybe 20 bucks?

You should consider renting a car. Metrorail really isn't for tourists, anyway.

What happened to all the Ireland Rulez! hysteria on this blog from a week ago or so?

Fading because Reed's a Tex & the rest are gone or lost?

The ship rigthed itself briefly w/ Marshall, Ellerebee etc, but its taking on water rapidly again, in large part because Ireland.

They need to at least sign Grimes to a one year and see if they can move up to get Milner, Secondary needs to at least be address with one player as they need two, as for braden I would not give anything more than a third as he is really inconsistent and is injury prone another sub par J long.

Aaron--

So I guess the Dolphins are supposed to sign EVERY free agent out there--including ones who have no interest whatsoever in playing for them?

They're having a damn active and interesting offseason so far--with much more yet to come. The only thing 'taking on water again' is that empty space between your ear.

Get Joeckl!

Sue NFL to get Clowney declared eligible.

Dave, thank you! I will consider what you say but also want to utilize the Miami Metrorail subway to a great extent as I do not believe in driving. If it goes tom approximately 5 miles from the stadium I shall walk there from the station.

But again thank you for the response!

That was very hurtful.
Even though I cannot expect everyone on this blog to know I suffer from hydroencephalitis, your insult still stings.

Nevertheless, your comment has caused me to reconsioder my broad statetments about FA/draft.

(One sypmtom of hydroencephalitis is over-assuredness).

....and poor spelling.

Sorry. And you're welcome.

I say, pass on Albert! Not a good use of resources to trade for him and then have to pay a big salary to a player on the down-hill slide of their career, in my opinion.

Any truth to the rumor of Dolphin's interest in Dumerville?

Charlie, I seriously wouldn't advise making that walk from Metrorail to the stadium! Not safe!!

Charlie,

I would fly in to Ft Lauderdale airport and stay at one of the hotels near the stadium. Maybe El Palcio Sports hotel. You can freaking walk to the stadium and back from there.

El Palacio is like a 3star hotel, not bad for the money. Not back if looking to go the game.

Charlie,

If staying near the stadium, get a bus schedule and take a bus to the nearest metrorail stop if you just want to experience riding it.

Tracy474,

You suck. Are you a Herald computer program? I never seen you answer when any poster post to you. LOL...

Charlie,

Also, listen very, very carefully when riding the metro rail. If youre not familiar with the area, it can be difficult to understand some of the drivers when announcing the stops.

Tell no one youre a tourist either. LOL...

Oh, thank you but I believe we will definitely be staying in downtown Miami. I think it is called the Mandarin Oriental? We just await the schedule being released to finalize our plans.

I did not know it is a dangerous walk. Thank you. I think this is near a neighborhood that is called "Opo Locko?" I saw in one magazine that this is very strange place with unusual architecture and would walk there on way to game, but maybe not.

Also, where is "Wynwood Arts District?" There are supposed to be many new galleries and cafes there I have read.

Thank you all very much for information!!

YG,
No...and, bite me!

The Mandarin Oriental is very nice. And no, you definitely don't want to walk thru "Opa Locka." Its a big time hoody/drug infested area.

I wouldn't feel safe walking thru Opa Locka. There could be a drive-bye going down at any moment. LOL...

Do not trade the future for the past..... Trade draft picks for other draft picks or young stars......

YG,
No...and, bite me!

Its alive, and it sounds gay! Bite Me? You had better be a girl. LOL...

However, I noticed you misspelled your screen name signing in and out of trolldom. Have you forgotten? You usually spell it Tracy474, not Tracyh474. Busted troll. ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!

Needs in order CB, LT, passrusher, TE, RB and depth.

Charlie,

You only walk thru Opa Locka if looking to pick up crack or crack ho's. LOL...

Yesterday gone.

You have been most helpful. Thanks you!

Branden Albert to much

Charlie OHIO, you are looking to become a statistic real quick by "walking" anywhere. Rent a actor find an alternative. And do not "walk" thru Opa Locka, do not walk thru Liberty City and for God's sake, do not walk to the game. Wanna walk?? Take a bus to South Beach and walk all you want.

Rent a car

Nope! Not gay and not a troll...definitely not a girl.
Signing in differently because my yahoo account was hacked into and I'm using a gmail account instead. I usually ignore some of what goes on here because it just doesn't relate to Dolphin's football. Actually, I've been posting here for quite a few years; back when Jason Cole ran this blog. Anything else?

2 picks, 1 2nd and 1 3rd pick, is to much

Bobbyd12,

He'll be staying at the Oriental Mandarin downtown. Its fairly safe to walk around there.

Posted by: Tracyh474 | March 22, 2013 at 05:37 PM

Ok, fair enough, my apologies. Help yourself Dolphins brother. LOL...

Charlie Ohio,

List of places not to walk:

Miami Gardens/Carol City
Opa Locka,
Liberty City
Overtown
Brownsville/Brown Sub

Also, you may want to keep it downtown and beach areas just to play it safe. Miami's a tourist mecca, but also a death trap, when straying off into the wrong areas. LOL...

Public Transportation Is Not that Good Of An Option.

Everywhere You Go In Miami.you Have Parking.

Plus, The Busses And Train Take Forever To Come.

Best Thing You Can Do Big Money Charlie. Is Rent A Car.

If You Have Enough Money For The Mandarin, You Have Enough Money To Rent A Car.

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

YG4, yea but this ain't Ohio. Palm trees, the sun, you don't know you've walked into the wrong neighborhood till its to late down here. I would take the bus to South Beach and party down there. Brickell has lots of great restaraunts to. Or Bayfront park. But walking around down here?? Nope

Charlie,

I lived in Broward and Dade countie for the first 38 of my 45 years and the MOST important thing you do on your trip is NOT walk anywhere near Opa Locka. YG was correct in this. Secondly you can ride the Metro and catch a 16 passenger van to the stadium for $10 and there will be a hundred of them sitting outside the stadium at the finish $10 bucks back to Metro...This is what I did last year when I came down. Good luck and have fun.

I live out here. This guy is terrible.

There really isn't an area that's 100% safe, the entire Miami area. But, you do want to keep the odds in your favor as much as possible.

Also, try not to be out past 9:00 PM as much as possible too. All of the creeps come out at night after 9:00pm. In all parts of the city. LOL...

Posted by: bobbyd12 | March 22, 2013 at 05:49 PM

EXACTLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: ButchVA | March 22, 2013 at 05:50 PM

ButchVA,

I know Metro Rail has a special service going on during sporting events at Sun Life. Maybe it is that 16 passenger bus you said goes to the stadium.

..Ohio Charlie. I read that you were planning a stay at the Mandarin Oriental. The place is sweet. Especially if you are bringing your wife or girlfriend. The ladies love the bathtub(open in the next to the bed) The private balconies are cool too.
The cab fare is like 20 bucks into downtown, or ask if the Private car is available. I think they use it until 10.

dashi,

Depending on the area, the metro bus runs every 15 minutes and the Metro Rail comes thru every 12-13 minutes. All depends on the area.

YG,

You are probably correct. Whatever you call the vehicle that is not a bus but bigger than a van.

Dwan Edwards, DT, Panthers, visited Miami?

I say, pass on that one too...

Long had (probably still does) back issues. Not good.

Do not trade for Brandon Albert. I would rather trade up for a Lane Johnson or Eric Winston. If neither are there go with the best player available. Whether it is Jonathan Cooper, or Chance Warmack. Or take antother weapon for Tannehill, like Tavon Austin, Cordelle Patterson, or Tyler Eifert.
Trade up back into the first round and grab the most Athletic Tackle in the draft besides Lane Johnson and grab Terron Armstead from Arkasas Pine-Bluff. He is raw but has more upside than Luke Joekel or Eric Winston.

Everyone--thank you kindly for all your information!

Yes, the Mandarin Oriental looks very nice. We are looking forward to it.

It is unlikely I will rent a car as I am opposed to driving unless it is absolutely necessary (such as a medical crisis or to reach a remote area). I am sure we will be able to access the SAFE areas using urban transport and especially wish to utilize the Metrorail as I am a fan and hobbyist of city rail systems across America.

Again, you have been most informative and THANK YOU all very much! I look forward to seeing our Dolphins WIN as well!

March Madness sucks. My only interest this year is that the Canes are in it.

With the new NBA eligibility rules, the quality of college basketball has taken a huge hit. Quality of college basketball players has drastically gone down. While the NBA bust level has gone up.

Many of these college players leaving early or declaring out of school could have used far more college experience before turning pro.

I meant Eric Fisher not Eric Winston sorry fella's Winston is on so many Miami Dolphins post's must have had him on the brain.

Charlie ohio,

My father's tile company had the contract for all of the tile work in Miami's metro rail system. So while looking at any piece of tile, wall or flooring, while at metro rail stations. You're seeing a very small piece of YG4E. LOL...

Is Terron Armstead to high a draft pick at #12? Yes he is from a small school, but he was rated the best OL at the East West Shrine game, and from what I heard he was one of the best OL at the Senior Bowl. Had a great week of practice and showed that he could more than hold his own with the more touted bigger school participants.
Then he blew up the NFL Combine, ran the fastest 40 for an O-lineman in NFL Combine History with a 4.71. Think about that he ran a 4.71 that is faster than Manti Teo, Jarvis Jones, and TE's Gavin Escobar, and Zach Ertz. Also benched 225 lbs. 35 times. I say #12 is not to high for Terron Armstead.

You guys wanna hear something crazy but true. My father had a chance to go to DC and meet Obama and turned it down. It was some type of business entrepreneur thing for businessmen making an impact in their cities.

I asked why he didn't go, he only told me he didn't feel like it, and left it at that. So did I. LOL...

Posted by: John "The Dolfan" | March 22, 2013 at 06:27 PM

Even with the great combine and shrine game, Armstead is still projected 2nd to 4th rd. I like him too, but yes, #12 is far to high when you can possibly get him 2nd to 4th rd.

Matt Barkley is our pick at #12. He was set to go at #2 last year ahead of RG3. He is another Andrew Luck IMHO.

Yesterday's gone 4Ever, would you say take Tavon Austin, Cordelle Patterson at #12, and trade back into the end of the first round to take Terron Armstead, if Lane Johnson doesn't fall into our laps at #12.

The best way to "make the team better" is to get a decent GM.

Gregg anything is possible but Barkley is not in my opinion even on the Fins radar. They invested in Tannehill and he's going to get another season as a starter before anyone starts talking about drafting his replacement.

Barkley didn't look good this year at times from what I've heard and he comes from a long line of QB's that are over-rated coming out of USC.
