Branden Albert available as a LT option

During the NFL annual meeting, Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland talked about how everything is on the table as far as making the team better. He mentioned free agency in all its forms, from street free agents to top-end free agents to lower-rung free agents. Obviously he mentioned the draft.

And he mentioned trades.

And so I have to throw this out there now:

The Chiefs have left tackle Branden Albert on the trade market.

The Dolphins, who are moving up after deciding Jake Long and his questionable injury history were too pricey to retain for $8.5 million per season, need a left tackle. Yes, the club has Jonathan Martin on the roster and he finished out the 2012 season at the position. But as coach Joe Philbin said "there's a lot of time between now and September. A lot of things could happen ... "

Trades are one of those things that can happen. Specifically this trade. The Dolphins will at least be investigating the possibility and likely will be interested in pursuing it.

Albert is not cheap. The Chiefs want a second round pick for him this year, according to multiple reports. There is also the likelihood another conditional pick in 2014 could be involved.

That's a steep price.

And then you have to consider the Dolphins, or any team paying that compensation, would also have to sign Albert to a long-term deal. And that deal would probably cost aroud $8 million per year.

Expensive for a player I'm not all that certain is great. I mean, he's good enough that the Chiefs put a franchise tag on him. But he's not so good that they are unwilling to trade him. He's not so good that they clearly believe a rookie left tackle in the draft would be an upgrade because that player would be younger, cheaper and, yes, possibly a better player, too.

The Dolphins have two second-round picks. They also have two third round picks.

As the Kansas City asking price is a second-rounder, I might not mind offering a third. I doubt any third-rounder Miami picks up this year would start right away as Albert would so it might be a good deal for Miami.

At any rate it deserves consideration. And I'm sure the Dolphins are considering it.

at 12, you take BPA regardless.....or trade up a bit and grab the BPA at a position you need.....adopt the SB winning Giants strategy......dont matter if they have 9 good D Lineman; when its their turn to draft, if the the BPA is a DLineman, they take him......and figure it out....trade, etc.

The announcers mentioned earlier that 11 years ago they were teaching out of trailers.

This is a true cinderalla team but they are high flying.

Posted by: Orlando Dolphan | March 22, 2013 at 09:06 PM

Teaching out of trailer? ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Orlando,

Announcers say that's in Ft Meyers. Got pussie in Ft Meyers before and still never heard Of Florida Gulf Coast U. LOL...

BPA? How do you ever know? It's not like they have BPA bar codes on their chest.

How Long Does The Tri-Rial Take?

Exactly.

YG,

When Has Dashi Said Draft Lacy And Become A Power Running Team?

My Point Has Always Been To Draft Lacy And Still Come Out With 4 Wr's. Lacy allows you To Run Out Of 4 Wr's.

Peterson Is Carrying Minnesota Because Ponder Sucks.

Did You Watch The Ravens?

The Wr's Basically Carried Flacco To The Superbowl.

Atlanta?

The Bronco's?

The Colt's?

The Packers?

A Couple Teams Used Wr's As Primary Offensive Weapons.

Its a wrap! Everyone will know who Florida Gulf Coast University is now. Just like no one had ever heard of Chaminade before they upset Ralph Sampson and the Virginia Caveliers. LOL....

Dashi,

Did you watch the link I sent you or did you watch the Oklahoma game? Those boys from Oklahoma are big and fast and he made them look slow. No way that kid gets passed the Rams at 16 and I heard that they love him. There is no comparison in the type of player Austin is and Davon Bess.

Several years ago I would have agreed that he is too small. However, with the new rules where you cannot even touch a receiver running over the middle, this is the kind of player you want. This kid will put the fear of god in the othe team. He will hold up and believe me he is not getting passed the Rams at 16.

Upset Alert! Florida Gulf Coast wins! A number 15 beats a #2.

Florida Gulf Coast is a fast growing University in Ft Myers. My son almost played baseball there. I wish he would have their baseball complex is sweet.

Their basketball and baseball programs are for real. No football yet as far as I know.

Really nice campus just a couple miles off of I-75.

actually Lars, they do......the bar codes are in the left armpit--I have one.....scanned it at Home Depot and it said I was on sale for $12.99--I also have an expiration date on my birth certificate, which helps with long term planning--dont you have a bar code?

LOL YG. It almost sounds like a community college. Good to see though this kids are for real.

Dashi,

The #12 for a "PLATOON WR"? Please tell me that youre kidding. Lamar Miller is already the penciled in starter. Lacy at #12 is not going to happen. End of story.

platoon rb

Lars, my point was you take who you THINK is the BPA available, as opposed to drafting for need......ie. dont reach alot for a CB because you need one, if there are a bunch of other players that you have rated higher--Fins still have too many needs to get picky......follow their draft board and take whoever they think is the BPA--obviously its not an exact science.

Orlando,

The northeast media is absolutely hating this. They hate everything FLA. They come here on vacation and do nothing but complain the whole while here.

Always great to see FLA shove big down northeast media throat! LOL...

never like Georgetown anyway

The tri-rail is about the equivalent of taking the freeway when there is no traffic. It's stress free. They average around 60 MPH and the stops are under a minute, less than a traffic light.

Orlando,

I Saw The Highlights. I Watched A Couple Of The WVU Games. The Baylor Game When G.Smith Just Went Off.

What I'm Saying Is T.Austin Is Even Small To Be Called Small In The NFL!!

The Possibilities Of Him Succeeding Or Even Surviving Are Slim To None.

Yes, He Is Not D.Bess. D.Bess Was A Wr!! Actually When Bess Finished College He Was Top 5 All Time In Receptions. Bess Actually Played Wr And Ran Routes.

Name 1 Offensive Skill Position Player From WVU in The NFL. Now Add To That T.Austin Doesn't Have Average Size. Odds Are Against Him.

NEsters dont all hate FL, believe me......except the Heat, but then again most people outside of FL hate the Heat......or LJ at least

dashi,

Plus, playing against Brady, you'll be down by 21pts at halftime trying to run the football. Lacy at #12? Are you fking kidding me? LOL...

they aint taking Lacey at 12.....not happening

YG he's been talking about Lacy for awhile. You just noticed it??

This offseason is about finding out if RT is the long term solution. This draft will be about getting him protection and receivers. RB they are ok for now having drafted two RB's back to back.

Fair enough Dashi. His size is questionable and I am sure that some teams are going to be hesitant. However, there are teams out there that really like him. Some of the draft geeks now have this kid as their top WR (including Kiper and McShay). He has climbed up the draft charts. We'll see what happens.

YG,

This Draft Isn't As Deep As People Think.

And Lacy Will Only Probably Share Carries With L.Miller.

No Understanding You Guys.

First, Reggie Is The Best!! Who Will Replace Him? Dashi Says We Have L.Miller He Will Be A Better RB Than Reggie!!

Then We Get!! I Don't Trust L.Miller!! We Are Nothing Without Reggie!! No RB Will Come In And Gain 1000 Yds!! Dashi Says, Since You Guys Don't Think L.Miller Will do it!! Draft E.Lacy The Best RB In The Draft. He Will Definitely Run The Ball Better Than Reggie!!

I'M Just Giving Out Scenario's How To Replace Reggie!! Since When Dashi Said L.Miller Was The Replacement and You Guys Yelled Blasphemy.

Is E.Lacy A Priority For The Fins? NO!!

Dashi Has Been Saying For A While The Fins Remaining Needs Are OT and CB!!

I do think Lacy will climb up the draft board since he's the top rb in a thin class. He is a beast too.

I just think think it would be a reach for us if we're going with Miller.

We should go with someone like Franklin or Barner for depth behind Miller and sign a bargain fa.

Dashi,

I respect your opinion, after all you were right about the line backer moves the fins made. I also like Lacy a lot but the fins can get him in the second round. He is projected as a mid second round pick.

My only concern with him is that he had a tough time staying healthy.

By Me Talking About E.Lacy. I Have Eliminated The R.Bush Talk. (Ever Noticed That)

Cause Some Of Us Know L.Miller Will Be A Better RB Than Reggie!!

But We All Know E.Lacy Is Already A Better RB Than Reggie!!

Look I Want L.Miller To Be The RB!! He's From The U!! And He Can Break A Long Run At Any Moment!! The Guy Ran A 4.3 While Still Rehabbing A Shoulder.

I'm Just Giving Out Scenario's

If Losing Bush Was Such A Devastating Loss. And YG Called Reggie The Fins Best Play maker.

Replacing Him With Someone Must Be A Priority?

Remember We Have To Replace The 4 PPG That Reggie Scored.

Dashe can you lose the Miller talk already? We got it. No need to repeat yourself ad nauseam like you did about Long.

RBs have little value these days, with a few exceptions......just take too much punishment, too many hits from freak 260 LBers and human missile safeties--most of them are shot by age 28 or so.....Ronnie Brown was a major prospect/player, and slowed considerably by the time he was 27, 28......dude is still only 31 (believe it or not) and he's stunk for 3 yrs.....injuries take their toll, and he was a star

I don't think the Dolphins would pay him too much but for the right price, I think Dwan Edwards would be not only a good replacement for Mcdaniel but insurance if we lose Solia next year.

He would actually start for the Panthers if they retain him.

If We Can Get Lacy In The Second, Then More Power To Ireland.

Dashi Big 12 Board For #12 Spot

Offense

L.Johnson
J.Cooper
Patterson
Lacy
Warmack
T.Armstead
DJ. Fluker

Defense

Trufant
D.Jordan
J.Jones
D.Moore
E.Ansah

Dashe do you think Miller will have a good season?

@9:45.

You See Why Dashi Is Talking Lacy?

My #1 Fan Wants To Try And Hold Something Else Against Dashi. Cause Dashi Once Said L.Miller Will Gain 1000yds Next Year With Reggie Gone.

Son, Haven't You Noticed Daddy Dashi Doesn't Want To Play Today!!

Tebow took the Broncos farther than Peyton. Why does everyone disregard that?

Bring in Tebow as a multipurpose player.

Your nuts tebow is bigger than any team he plays for he is like Jesus

Football Jesus is his name

I'm With The Trade Back Crew.

But Dashi Will Only Trade Back For A Future 1st Rounder. We Have Enough Picks This Year. A Extra First Rounder Next Year. With A Deeper Better Draft!! Sounds Good To Dashi.

That list is too long dashi way to long

daShe takes the bait right on cue. Just like Kris and odor. It's like fishing in a fishbowl with them. LOL

The last time I dropped some bait for Kris he wrote 4 paragraphs to say how he would ignore me LOL.

Talk about dumb, sheez.

We don't need gadgets anymore winners circle. We are gonna have a legitimate fast paced, multi-formation spread offense.

I'm with the trade back crew also, wait a minute I started it 3 months ago and everyone said I was crazy

I would like to see us trade back into the 20s for a first a second and a fourth then take truphant and 20 something that would be value

Yes,

Except With All Your Aliases You Can't Take Credit For It.

I am many I am all fear me

Lets trade all of our one's two's and three's for sixes and sevens. We should have 20 picks...will that make you happy?

I just don't understand this quantity versus quality argument. That strategy rarely works.

Can you imagine parlaying our first into 3 picks

Didn't any of you watch the playoffs last year? We need players! Stars! Weapons!!! We don't need any more generic value players!

We will never win jack shoot without picking up some SERIOUS talent, not pitiful value talent.

It would delight me thoroughly the more picks the better

Dashi Is Talking About Acquiring A Future #1.

Not Trading Back In The Draft For An Extra #2.

This draft is deep as the ocean

Whenever you hear we got good value on a pick, think waste. FK value!!! Use the ammo to get some SERIOUS talent...FOR ONCE!!!! C'mon.

You guys want to win shopping at Sears!!!! Ain't going to happen!

Dashi is stupid

Big lots is my favorite

It's like a chick with 3 breasts real fun

Dashi Is Talking About Acquiring A Future #1.

Not Trading Back In The Draft For An Extra #2.

Posted by: Trade Back Crew | March 22, 2013 at 10:14 PM

Anything but a WIN NOW, WIN RIGHT FKN NOW mentality is a losers mentality.

This is a relatively sparse draft by all accounts.

You can have one breasts two breasts or three breasts wich would you take

Lars,

Wouldn't 2 #1 Picks Next Year Be Value?

The Fins Can Still Get The Player They Want In The Twenties. And Having 2 First Round Picks Next Year!! Will Be A Jump start For Next Years Draft.

Clowney
Chickillo
S.Watkins
X.Lee

Next Draft Is Going To Really Be Stacked!! This Is An Off Year In The NFL Draft.
