Branden Albert available as a LT option

During the NFL annual meeting, Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland talked about how everything is on the table as far as making the team better. He mentioned free agency in all its forms, from street free agents to top-end free agents to lower-rung free agents. Obviously he mentioned the draft.

And he mentioned trades.

And so I have to throw this out there now:

The Chiefs have left tackle Branden Albert on the trade market.

The Dolphins, who are moving up after deciding Jake Long and his questionable injury history were too pricey to retain for $8.5 million per season, need a left tackle. Yes, the club has Jonathan Martin on the roster and he finished out the 2012 season at the position. But as coach Joe Philbin said "there's a lot of time between now and September. A lot of things could happen ... "

Trades are one of those things that can happen. Specifically this trade. The Dolphins will at least be investigating the possibility and likely will be interested in pursuing it.

Albert is not cheap. The Chiefs want a second round pick for him this year, according to multiple reports. There is also the likelihood another conditional pick in 2014 could be involved.

That's a steep price.

And then you have to consider the Dolphins, or any team paying that compensation, would also have to sign Albert to a long-term deal. And that deal would probably cost aroud $8 million per year.

Expensive for a player I'm not all that certain is great. I mean, he's good enough that the Chiefs put a franchise tag on him. But he's not so good that they are unwilling to trade him. He's not so good that they clearly believe a rookie left tackle in the draft would be an upgrade because that player would be younger, cheaper and, yes, possibly a better player, too.

The Dolphins have two second-round picks. They also have two third round picks.

As the Kansas City asking price is a second-rounder, I might not mind offering a third. I doubt any third-rounder Miami picks up this year would start right away as Albert would so it might be a good deal for Miami.

At any rate it deserves consideration. And I'm sure the Dolphins are considering it.

not true indy, miami could of offered easily more than skins if they wanted to. future picks are great for rams quinn is horrible. orton solid backup. flynn a joke

If Tannehill were on the Seahawks he'd be 3rd string.

I think the Colts lost games on purpose.

I don't think it was a collaborative team effort though.

All Irsay had to do was to get his Head Coach on board. Making questionable calls, starting the wrong guys, etc, etc.

It didn't need to be a team wide conspiracy, just a couple of highly placed, like minded individuals.

Oh wait, NEVER MIND! I was thinking of the Martin Luther King assassination, my bad.

Most of you are too dumb to realize which bloggers are posting nonsense only to get you going.

If it smells like a poo, looks like a poo, plops like a po, then it must be an odin.

The team has gone straight downhill since Parcells left.

Exactly, if people can't tell by now that this post and others like it are written as a way to get attention by some lonely idiot than you are just as dumb. Stop feeding into the nonsense. If you read a post and can't believe how utterly stupid the person is guess what? IT'S FAKE.

All anyone needs to do here is suggest some terrible QB is better than ours, or that we are the worst organization in sports, and you fools start trying to debate them seriously.

(See Vegas Mike, Fin 77, MJ - they do it all the time, if they are not all the same person)

phins 78 in da house

yup, saying the Fins are better without Parcells is moronic and just trying to cause anger. Its idiotic yet some of you still fall for it.

"and colts lost games on purpose now have luck."

Dusty you're kidding right? Are you saying an entire organization set out to purposely loose games? If you're not kidding I would be really interested in finding out the details as to how a team would ask it's players and coaches not to win when ALL of their jobs depend on playing the best they can.

I'm sorry but because of that reason alone I always thought this was one of the silliest conspiracy theories in all of sports.

phins 78, u dont tell the players. u si mply call the garbage game plan and start the garbage players.

Home makes Omar Kelly look like Einstein. Anyone who believes in conspiracy theories is a straight up worthless dumbass.

Phins 78, the Colts used a horrible QB. That was enough to insure losing.

vegas mike denver vs seattle 2014 super bowl

GM->"Coach we want you to find a way to lose because we want the first pick. So sit all of your better players and design a really vanilla game plan, thanks".

Coach-> "If I lose games you can fire me and no one else will hire me. They will see me as a quitter. I'll tell you what, I'm going to call my agent and see what he says about my boss asking me to screw my future in the career I've chosen by purposely losing games and making me look like a bad coach. I don't think he will be too happy with this".

the last game of season was hilarious vs jacksonville, it was a battle of the colt players vs colt coaches, u could tell how bad those coaches were trying to lose the game. sad thing was colts went back on word and fired caldwell much later

dusty, very possible. But dont count out the 49ers either.

he wasnt phins 78 if u saw his interviwed after they canned him after promising not to

Phins78 and indy fin.

Don't be Dumbo's, You are trying to debate people whose sole purpose is to inflame you. They are bored and have no life.

You get it but then continue trying to debate them makes you both Dumbo's.

Winston played Left Tackle at Miami and was considered the best Tackle in college football.

If we do sign him, I bet he beats out Martin for the Left Tackle spot. And that's if the Coaches even let Martin compete at Left Tackle.

We need to sign Winston and Moore to play Left Tackle and Right Guard respectively. Let Martin stay on the right and Samuda and Jerry for depth.

This relieves any notions of desperation along the line and sets us up nicely for BPA in the Draft.

We could still trade up for Joekel, Fisher or Johnson. But the above allows us to not get taken on any trade up deals.

mia mi was 0-7 at one pt, cant get any worse

Same with the players. In this scenario what is happening? The GM is going up to his players and asking them to not try, or to tell them that they aren't going to play because the team wants to lose?

25% or more of those guys are playing for a contract the following year. An agent isn't going to be too happy with his players stats purposely being messed with so they can then eventually cut the player or let him hit free agency with NO leverage. He goes to his new team and they say well we aren't going to pay you for these numbers.

What does that player say? "No, I'm serious you have to pay me what I want because my last team didn't want to win and purposely held me back with a purposely bad game plan or just sat me all together, but trust me I'm still good"!

It just doesn't hold water any way you look at it. Teams do not purposely loose games because it would hurt the integrity of the sport and it would also hurt coaches, agents, and players careers. The NFLPA and other reps would sue the crap out of the league.

odineye congrats on his college career. he was horrible last year in kc

Winston was dumped by his last two teams. Only a Dumbo would think he is worthwhile.

Lot's of Dumbo's here today.

indy fin,

When was Miami mediocre? 7-9 is NOT mediocre. 4 consecutive losing seasons is hardly mediocre.

If RoboHenne didnt get injured we would've had Andrew Luck.

Garbage game plans are obvious. No one said the Colts were using bad game plans. They were using a bad QB. Now I'll agree that the GM might have had it in his mind that if they used Painter there was a good chance they would lose a lot of games therefore he didn't look for a better replacement. But I don't believe for a second that it was a team wide conspiracy. And I don't believe the NFL would get away with such a practice when so many people lives depend on their level of play or coaching.

yeah it would be almost as shocking if a coaching staff had a bounty system, imagine that

indy, those people you are debating are not remotely serious about what they are saying. They come on here all the time looking to get some Dumbo going, like you.

very true, if henne had played entire season we would most likely have luck right now

Dumbo land I did not debate anyone about that. I made a point, that was it. One point. Point being, people who write dumb posts really aren't dumb but are doing it to get a rise out of someone.

That's not a debate.

Indy hes not talking about our losing on purpose debate. He's talking about the comments from the top of the page.

no doubt fin, dudes wife must tell him hes mediocre in bed

Um when was 7-9 not merdiocre? When did the ruile change?

Because my whole life mediocre teams were 7-9 to 9-7.

good to great teams were 10-6 to 16-0

Bad to putrid teams were 0-16 to 6-8

Where is mediocre on your list? Isn't mediocre middle of the pack? If middle of the pack isn't mediocre than what is? Better than average is now considered mediocre?

Doesn't make sense.

I just dont see how anyone can call 4 losing seasons in a row, "mediocre".

Hey, they WISH they were mediocre!! If the Dolphins were ever mediocre they'd throw a parade! LMAO!!

Who knows Indy. I used to get into it with those idiots because I didn't realize there were people out there who's sole purpose was to get strangers mad in a blog in order to feel whatever it is it makes them feel. I couldn't understand the posts because it was so foreign to me. I didn't realize people were that pathetic but after talking to some in here it became crystal clear. Now I do my best to ignore and can see when someone is just lonely and trying to get attention.

I also realized how dumb the fighting must have looked to others as I started reading different arguments and seeing how stupid and insane they were. lol

GET SENSE, here's how.

Because mediocre is a BAD term in the English language. Like Indy said, that word is reserved for things that aren't good as in, they are mediocre.

1.Horrible
2.Bad
3.Mediocre
4.Good
5.Great

Right?

Lets all start name calling when our opinion isnt shared. Ok?

me·di·o·cre
/ˌmēdēˈōkər/
Adjective
Of only moderate quality; not very good: "a mediocre actor".
Synonyms
middling - moderate - indifferent - ordinary - mean

Duck Dynasty,

First of all your show sucks. Bunch of dirty stinkin hillbillies! ;)

Secondly, you guys have no clue what mediocre means. Mediocre is not good. The Dolphins are not good. Not sure what the misunderstanding is here.

mediocre is NOT a bad term. Stink is a bad term. Mediocre is average. The Dolphins have not been average 4 years running.

No one is name calling. But I guarantee someone starts now.

Bad = Bad

Mediocre = Average

That's your opinion get sense and you're entitled to it.

My opinion (I don't care about the Sparano era, I'm starting new like the team with Philbin) is that the team is middle of the pack. Their stats AND record from last year clearly show that.

Not interested in what the Dolphins did before they started rebuilding last season. I guess we were talking about two separate teams. Yes, under Sparano I agree the team stunk. But under Joe and what we saw last year the team has graduated to mediocre in my eyes.

Hey, our show is a huge hit.

LOL Okay I'm out. Talk to you guys later, have a great weekend.

How do you know if any post is worth reading in advance?

Simple. Read the very last line first. If it has LMFAO, ROFLMAO, LOL or any of those tired acronyms that were worn out 15 years ago, then it is a foolish post by a fool.

No news bad news

This is like listening to my kids argue about what to watch on tv. I wouldn't think you could debate the definition of mediocre but I was wrong. LOL

Guys If your the Fins do you go Dumervil or Osi Uminyora? But go after one of them!!!!

Afternoon gents,

It would seem that #12 is a bit of a no mans land pick. You are hoping someone falls or covets a player to trade out and net extra picks.

Miami still has a lot of holes so having the extra ammunition would allow J.I. to trade around and get the exact players he is seeking in most rounds. He doesn't have to stay put and add 13 players (extras gained through a trade back.

I can see the draft going a few different ways. How he finishes this FA spree will paint a better picture. As of now I would...

Sign CB Grimes and OT Winston.

1. If he is there OT Lane Johnson, or if we land Winston - CB Desmond Trufant (most well rounded CB with bloodlones too) if we don't get Grimes. Sign both FA's and would have to turn to the Book of Ezekiel for "da Ansah". He will be a faster Tamba Hali! Hasn't played that long and light is just going on...upside is huge and he's already good enough to be here. If Ziggy Ansah is gone flip the script and take G Warmack or Cooper. It would be unpopular but both these guys will be studs for a long time. So much so that Warmack could be gone by 12 as a G!!

Cheers...cont...

cont...

2a. S Matt Elam I believe is the best Safety of the bunch. He's an animal and takes unbelievable angles to destroy people before they get where they wanted to. Superior tackler and will cause hat on the ball fumbles like all great tacklers do. Leader, Alpha Male type reminds of Ed Reed with his swagger. This pick may have to be OT Fluker or OT Menelik Watson if OT Winston doesn't get signed.

2b. RB Lacey if he is there but probably won't be. CB Darius Slay would fit the bill as a speedy corner that can play mixed coverages.

3a. OT Terron Armstead would have to be signed if we missed on all the above tackles. Groomer or not he has the crazy triangle numbers to be a whale of a player in time. Even with ALL the WR signings J.I. needs to add young, play making WR's that can be more long term when these short term FA contracts come due. WR Markus Wheaton (One of my top 5 favorite players in this draft) would be an excellent get here. He sparky and competitive. Has serious hand eye coordination to track all balls and especially those thrown over his shoulder. Gets separation and plays hard for 1st downs and TDs. WR Quinton Patton would also work in this slot or the next. They both will make the grade as pros.

cheers ...cont

I have to agree with Get Sense. If the Dolphins go 9-7 most would consider that good....not mediocre. Few would refer to a 9-7 Dolphin season as mediocre. So 7-9 should be considered bad...not mediocre either.

cont...

3b. CB Blidi Wreh-Wilson has the length Ireland covets. Has the speed and ability to stay with his man and make a play on the ball or drive on a ball coming into his area. WR Wheaton or Patton could work in this slot too. As another fall back they could tab WR Marquise Goodwin (Olympic Sprinter speed)and team him with Wallace to create a track meet that no NFL team could keep up with down in and down out. He actually threatened RB Chris Johnson's all time combine record at 4.27!

4. DE Devon Taylor. Reminds me of another tall, lean Taylor. Has similar great leverage at 6'8" with the athletic skills to match. Bleacher Report had an interesting article about the fastest players when size, 40 speed,3-cone and short shuttle times are all blended...Taylor was next to the top spot pitted against EVERYONE at the combine including Ansah! He totally gets it with outside leverage and plays into the backfield with QB pressure's and TFL's. (Taylor is also one of my fav's in the draft as a killer value pick) a poor mans JPP type. An alternative pick RB Marcus Lattimore Fins have to take a shot at replacing Thomas now. You have to dig the well before you need the water. Thomas is not and won't be the answer. Sorry J.I. Thomas was a trade up flop. Lattimore can be the salve for that wound.

Room for some great fill in the hole draft picks here...6,7,7,7

TE Joseph Fauria He needs time to develop but has bloodlines to indicate success. Has a nose for the end zone and is a skyscraper 6'7" red zone target.

K Dustin Hopkins Carpenter needs to have heat and if the kid shows promise, reset the financial button on the K position.

That's the best draft I could muster with the given info. What are you guys projecting as your best mock?

Cheers!!

Yeah, I'm fairly sure if the Dolphins go 9-7 Phins 78 would not refer to that as mediocre! LOL

Rob...I'm with you man on your draft except for Ansah..He's all hype and projection. Let someone else develop him.

Irescum can not build thru the draft.
Trade the picks for established players.

9-7 would be GREAT!

Phins78 I actually think there may be some people out there that actually believe Parcells was our savior. His first year we won the division title, that sticks with people.

On the trolling note if people want to flip their lid about stuff and post stuff that should get them a smack in the mouth, whatevs. No one should give a rats ass about that shite.

It's fun to talk football with those of you who try to stick to that. I don't think anyone can call themselves an expert or anything, just sharing opinions is all.
