Dolphins officially interested in Wallace, but ...

The Miami Dolphins have done what everyone expected them to do during this free agency signing period and have officially shown interest in prospective Pittsburgh Steelers free agent wide receiver Mike Wallace. (That is now fact).

So, as I write in my column in Sunday's Miami Herald, the question is no longer whether the Dolphins actually want Mike Wallace. We're past that.

The question now is whether the Dolphins can land Mike Wallace?

I have no tangible information what it will take. Presumably a deal for Wallace is going to hit at least $12 million a year. And presumably, it will be done sometime next week. (That part is speculation).

More facts, you say?

Well, check the column because it discusses how the Dolphins have shifted their approach this free agency -- at least somewhat. Let's just say that their interest in 36-year-old Charles Woodson is significant because it shows the team is more willing to expand its search for talent.

Older guys are not out of bounds any more as long as they offer significant talent.

By the way, because it will take a good amount of money to sign Wallace and eventually a good amount of the salary cap you should know the Dolphins are at approximately $30.5 million in available cap space.

And, as many of you come to this blog or follow me on twitter to ask my opinion, I tell you exactly what I think of Miami's chances of getting Wallace ... in the column.

Lobo....

I understand your counter-point....and the same thoughts occurred to me when typing what I did....

However...for me....

I'm all about thinking outside the box....and just cause it hasn't worked for somebody else...is no reason for me not to try it....

I understand your logic...but i'm about pushing the envelope....

Ok, well this kind of point of view in the context you put it shows me you want to take the chance but have sensibility about the situation. Works for me.

Rams have made contact with Jake Long too.

dusty, Boldin is an awesome player. Period. He fights for the ball better than even Marshall. Boldin is faster than Jerry Rice, so your argument is off.

Orlando/lobo,

Teams don't let top tier WRs get away? Where would you put VJax in the mix of top WRs? San Diego let him go. How about the guy in Seattle (can't think of his name right now)? TO? Burress? The guy in Washington last year that came fromm the Colts? All prety good players. So it's not exactly an accurate comment to make.

Lobo,

You are absolutely right I your analogy of Wallace. I best would take him here for 8 to 9 million a year but to pay 15 million for a guy that had less receptions and yards per catch than Hartline last year with one of the QBs in the game throwing him the ball is ridicuous. He is a soid reciever but not a dominator and he wants to be paid as such.

I would be more of the idea of resigning Long, brininging in Cook, and even taking a chance on Jennings for 8 million a year and 4 years. BUt to pay 13 to 15 million a year for Wallace us is inasane. This reckless spending will hurt the franchise long term.

Judging from media reports, my guess would be there is an 80% chance Wallace signs with Miami.

I hope he doesn't hold out on us if he has a good season.

Pats have made an offer to Mike Wallace

Orlando,

Where is it written that Wallace wants $15 mil a year?

broncos all over revis

lobo im so glad u disagree with me, retarded rock

lobo,

Still waiting fro youre response on how you would spend the $30 mil +. Is there a reason you're not responding?

"I have been reading that ST WR Gibson is a much better fit for the west coast system that the fins currently have."

BK,

Just stop it. Have you ever seen Gibson play??? He's extremely inconsistent & unreliable. The Rams would rather have ZERO WR's than keep him. And people have the nerve to complain about Hartline???

Gibson is the Sean Smith of WR's.

All's I know it is like Christmas in March, we are actually talking about signing guys that matter, not picking up trash and retreads like Legaduu Nenee, Chad Ocho Cinco, and the other guy that had a cup of coffee with the team last year. I hope we sign Wallace and draft Tavon Austin. Talk about playmakers and speed to burn baby burn.

nowhere craig, there was one report that vikes would offer him that. wallace says he will only play in warm weather city. pats are out

Looks like Carson Palmer is going to be done in Oakland. One of the worst trades in NFL history.

And to think there were people here who liked the trade and who wanted Palmer in Miami. Hilarious!

Craig,

TO and Burress were major headaches that no one wanted and that is why they were let go. Vincent Jackson is very good (IMO much better than Wallace) but not in the same league as the top 5 in the league (The Johnsons, Fitzgerald, etc.) and Wallace wants to be the 3rd highest paid WR in the game.

What Lobo and I are saying is that we would take him on our team but for a more reasonable price that does not cripple the franchise.

palmer trade was so bad, hue jackson dumb as they come

I'd rather have Percy Harvin than Wallace, who may become available. But only if he can convince our FO he is not going to become a headache for the team.

orlando that will happen every year, new contracts money goes up. wallace wont be anywhere near 3rd highest in say 2 years

lobo harvin wants to be highest paid wr in nfl, no thanks

Craig,

Fifteen million a year should be reserved for QBs. Think about it, this guy wants to make the same money that Drew Brees is making and no way you can tell me that he has that kind of impact on a team.

lobo,

Still waiting man....

You're losing credibility with me REAL fast....

orlando wallace will get 12 mill per

Orlando,

Incarerated Bob reports Dolphins and Wallace have agreement in principle for 5yrs 60 million(12 million a year)

Orlando he is a proven deep threat. We need him to make defenses play honest. Even if he doesn't catch 70 balls, he makes everyone else better. Watch the #'s Bess and Hartline put up once the field opens up because defenses will have to play us honestly after Tannehill completes a forty yard bomb to Wallace. And that also will create running room for Lamar Miller and Daniel Thomas because that safety won't be able to creep up into the box because of the deep threat that Wallace is.

Perhaps Greg Jennings and Rams receiver Brandon Gibson instead of Wallace ? ( can probably get both for Wallace's asking price ).

Then draft one or two receivers. The more competition the better.

I just read a Bleacher Report piece on riskiest free agents. Of course Jake Long was #1 and Jennings was #2. Not sure they were ranked or anything that's just the order it showed. Wallace was not on there.

Waiting on what Craig?

You asked me the the same question twice and I answered it twice.

Also, I don't need your assessment of my credibility. I'm posting my opinions.

Ross is way too cheap to pay for good players like Wallace. Thats just part of the reason we stink.

awww poor lobo. guessing this character is a very young kid . so go easy on him craig, just wants to talk football

Orlando,

For pone thing you dpon't know he wants $15 mil a year. YOu're just throwing that ou there to make your case. On the other hand Brees makes $20 mil a year. So we really need to see how this all shakes out before we see what he ends up with. I've heard you say you wanted Bowe (thought he was the nest guy out there). So you're OK with him getting $11.5 mil a year? IMO Wallace is a better player. Paying him that is the price of FA. If we want to play, we have to pay.

And you and lobo, said good teams tie their WRs up. I gave you VJax. At the time TO and Burress were two of the best in the game, attitudes aside. The reason Steelers are letting Wallace walk is because they are tight against the cap and can't spend for another WR (we think).

Also we can't trust the media too much. We hear nothing but Wallace to Miami. It could happen, but there could be some surprises in the mix come Tuesday.

"Due to their sunny location, the Miami Dolphins have emerged as the "lead dog" for the services of field-stretching wide receiver Mike Wallace when the free-agent signing period begins at 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday, Alex Marvez of FOXSports.com reports.
"He prefers warm weather," Marvez's source said of Wallace, a New Orleans native who played his college at Mississippi."

Yahoo sports

"disagree playmakers, torrey was killing teams deep early in season. they started to adjust which helped boldin all season long"

Dusty,

You're entitled to your opinion but Boldin can & does make plays w/o having separation. There's not a CB in football who can out-muscle him for a ball & his hands are like a vice. Throw the ball near him & he'll come up with the catch. This was the case long before Boldin came to the Ravens & this is why he's so valuable.

One more time lobo....

How would you spend the $30 mil + the team has in FA? Specifically.....please.

yes playmakers it was, and now hes 32 and old. and only 4tds with 3 in on egame says different

Ross is way too cheap to pay for good players like Wallace. Thats just part of the reason we stink.

Cycled through all of the other one liners and we're back to this one now heh? What is this the 1000th time you've repeated these same exact words in this same exact sentence? Astonishing.

If a rookie comes in and starts right away it means that the player playing that position wasnt that good! Get a FA WR AND draft one or two as well, this completely upgrades the roster and Creates competition at the same time! That's how you build championship teams

Craig

I don't know what your problem is. I answered your question the first time and gave a shorter answer the second time. Go back in read it. Now you are asking a third time? Pay attention.

If you are expecting me to itemize what players at what pricec for you, sorry I don't have that much free time to analyze it all, but I gave you a complete general answer.

Craig in addition to what I just said, I am just of the opinion that you do not pay that much for a WR. The Lions have one of the bewt WRs in football history and they are a worse team than us. A WR cannot take that much of your salary cap space. And there is a report out there saying that Wallace wants to be the 3rd highest paid receiver and that he wants to make 13 to 15 milion a year.

The Packers run a system where they seem to be able to easily replace star WRs with other great WRs (through the draft). It is all about the QB. If Tannehill develops into a franchise QB, we will be able to replace WRs easily. And if he does become that frannshise QB I want to pay the 15 million + to him so that we can keep him here. You don't want to have your salary crippled by a WR and then not be able to resign your franchise QB.

Ok lobo,

I can tell it's pointless talk to you.

Have a good one...

Who is coming up with these so called reports? Are we supposed to believe them?

Ross would rather pocket 30 mill then use it to improve the team.

Craig

It is pointless talking to you. Are you retarded or what?

I answered you. It is there. Sorry bro, I'm not going to repeat myself over and over like a monkey for you because you are too lazy to pay attention.

Go back and read it or move on.

I hope Bolden becomes available - He's the only WR FA I would pursue and don't break the bank on him either.

I like baker and or Winston on OL but there are so many good options in the draft too.

Remember we have 9 picks and 5 in the first 86.

lobo, yes Craig Moron is retarded. Are u just learning that now?

FIRST 4 YEARS OF THEIR CAREERS.

MIKE WALLACE

BRIAN HARTLINE
2,753 YARDS 6 TDs CAREER AVG PER CATCH 15

ANY MORE QUESTIONS

SOUND LIKE TOP 3 MONEY TO ME.

OH NO YOU're HAPPY WITH BRIAN HARTLINE.

I JUST READ ON YAHOO SPORTS THAT AFTER TALKING TO SOME TEAMS THE DOLPHINS ARE EMERGING AS WALLACE FAVORITE LANDING SPOT.

FINGERS CROSSED.

It sounds like Craigs philosophy is to spend the money we have regardless if we get fair value. Who cares if Wallace's name is at the top of some list. Sometimes the prettiest girl in the room is not necessarily anything so special.

I WILL DO THE WORK THROW OUT ANOTHER WR's NAME.

Did you just wake up? That has been all over every site for weeks now.

I've never seen fans of a perrenial losing team so concerned about spending money......

Justin,

You left something out....look at the QB's those receivers had. How good would Wallace have done on the Henne Sparano team?

Hey lobo,

Why don't you go fukk yourself!! Am I retarded? Yeah I'm retarded for trying to have sensible conversation with you, when I see thta's beyond your means.

Done with you, bud...

lobo,

Instead of 'guessing' what my plan is or making shyte up, why don't you take the wax out of your ears and actually listen.

You try to have a sensible conversation with someone and it turns into 'are you retarded?' Go fukk yourself nimrod!

Vegas Mike that's because we have the franchise has lived off free agency for two decades or so and it hasn't worked. When it hasn't worked it's hand-tied us in other years. We worry that the money is spent wisely because mostly it never has been.

Someone made a good point a little earlier I think. Why do we fans give a crap about where the money is being spent?? The main thing is fielding an improving, playoff caliber team...right? But I do know Miami has what, 5-6 million invested in both QBs the next 2 years. That's pocket change for a starteer and backup. Long doesn't llok to be getting a big contract here. So, a big ol chunk can go somewhere over the next few years. And if we find out RT is DA MAN in 3 years. Then he can have that big contract.

Craig

Let me put it nicely..you are obviously an unstable_twisted_fuckwad.

You asked me a question and I responded fully.

Then you ask the very same question later.

Then you ask the very same question again waiting on my 'credibility'. Ok god.

Don't ask people questions if you are too damn lazy to go back and read the responses.

In case I didn't make my point clear the first time...

you are obviously an unstable_twisted_fuckwad.

'You are absolutely right I your analogy of Wallace. Orlando,

Honestly...You realize it doesn't matter what you or I think. Ireland wants a playmaker @ WR & he's willing to pay what the market value will bear. He traded for Marshall & that didn't work out so now he's going to have pay for the best WR in FA. The cost for Wallace is probably close to $12 Million a year. It is what is.

Dear bloggers,

Craig M is mentally unstable and possibly unfit for society. Blog with him at your own risk.

Bidniss it's about spending big and having free agents flop. That leads to cap problems down the road where we can't compete on contracts for other players that may help us. That's basically the issue.
