Dolphins officially interested in Wallace, but ...

The Miami Dolphins have done what everyone expected them to do during this free agency signing period and have officially shown interest in prospective Pittsburgh Steelers free agent wide receiver Mike Wallace. (That is now fact).

So, as I write in my column in Sunday's Miami Herald, the question is no longer whether the Dolphins actually want Mike Wallace. We're past that.

The question now is whether the Dolphins can land Mike Wallace?

I have no tangible information what it will take. Presumably a deal for Wallace is going to hit at least $12 million a year. And presumably, it will be done sometime next week. (That part is speculation).

More facts, you say?

Well, check the column because it discusses how the Dolphins have shifted their approach this free agency -- at least somewhat. Let's just say that their interest in 36-year-old Charles Woodson is significant because it shows the team is more willing to expand its search for talent.

Older guys are not out of bounds any more as long as they offer significant talent.

By the way, because it will take a good amount of money to sign Wallace and eventually a good amount of the salary cap you should know the Dolphins are at approximately $30.5 million in available cap space.

And, as many of you come to this blog or follow me on twitter to ask my opinion, I tell you exactly what I think of Miami's chances of getting Wallace ... in the column.

Yesterday's Gone 4Ever, I will look at some of their highlights, but those things are always the "highlights." I don't think Wallace is a great receiver. He was in a good spot it Pittsburgh with Ward opposite, Miller as a TE, and a good running game. In addition, I think big Ben is a bit more proven commodity then Tanny.

I do not feel that we have the other items that will distract opposing defenses from watching Wallace. I will check out the highlights though.

I just checked in to see if there was any news from Wallaces agent or talk about $$. I don't see anything.

So, before the accusations start accusing lobo, YG & myself of being the same person, allow me to remove myself from the equation. Gonna take the kids to the park.

For what it's worth, if someone is going to force another blogger to answer & repeat their answers all the time, JD's question certainly is one that should be answered.

See ya!

Kris,

But that's not what we're arguing. You're just after telling me that Boldin single-handedly wins games by himself but I guess it helps when you've got the guy you claim is the best QB in the league. So your on this is what?

Craig M resorts to childish name calling when his opinion isnt shared.....

lobo,

True, Wallace isnt Jerry Rice, but how many are? You have your #1 wr's that fit sort of in the Wallace mold. Then The Bowe/Marshall types. You rarely get both in 1 wr.

I think the idea swirling in Ireland's head is Hartlines to move the chains and Wallace to become the explosive guy. So its two different types to be one solid recieving corps.

Still I would like tio see Ireland add at least 1 more wr in the 2nd rd.

I'd take a chance on Patterson. He looks like he could be a true alpha receiver within a couple more years development.

Polian has made two statements on Wallace somewhat contradictory in the last month. The most recent one he says you can check all the boxes on Wallace. The previous one he said Wallace is never going to be your first option, not on 1st and 10, not on second and 5, he will always be the second option. He also said his hands were not that great and that he is not always the best locker room guy. Ok, all that is his opinion, but for whatever reason it stuck with me,

THANKS BOBBY AND KRIS:

KRIS YOU WERE THE ONE MONTHS AGO SAID USE WHAT I CAN TO ARGUE MY POINTS.

LOBO:

YOU CAN't ARGUE THAT HARTLINE HAD A BETTER YEAR IN YARDS AND CATCHES.

THEN WHEN I PUT THEIR CAREER AGAINST EACH OTHER NOW YOU WANNA LOOK AT THE QBs.

THAT's THE CASE LOOK AT THE O-LINE.

HOW MANY SACKS WERE GIVING UP.

QBs TEND TO GET JITTERY AFTER A FEW HITS.

LOOK AT THE PLAY ACTION FAKES.

DBs SOMETIMES TAKE A STEP TOWARDS THE RUN IF THEY THUNHK IT's A RUN

THE RUNNING BACKS.
GOOD RUNNING TEAMS SOMETIMES GET GET 8 IN THE BOX.

HOW MANY PASSING PLAYS WERE CALLED.

MORE PASSING CAN EQUAL MORE YARDS FOR A WR.

HOW MANY YARDS AFTER CATCH.
THAT's THE MOST IMPORTANT ONE TO ME CAUSE IT CAN EQUAL TDs.

HOW MANY YARDS THEY HAD TO GO AFTER A TURN OVER.
IF ITs A TURN OVER INSIDE THE OPPS. 20 DOES THAT TD STILL COUNT?

HOME GAMES VS ROAD GAMES

HOT GAMES OR COLD GAMES.

NO IM GOING PLAYERS VS PLAYERS

THE NUMBERS ARE WHAT THEY ARE.

I GUESS YOU TRYING TO SAY IF HARTLINE HAD BIG BEN FOR 4 YEARS HE WOULD HAVE THE SAME NUMBERS AS WALLACE DID.

Craig M....

I also told you before...I have been to a Ravens practice....

Flacco puts the ball in the SAME SPOT EVERY THROW.....you don't get to see that in the games...Harbaugh Newsome and the recievers see this EVERY PRACTICE.....

there is NO GUESSING where the ball is gonna be.....high and out side on a out rout of a come back pattern...just get to the spot.....

A players WORTH is what somebody is willing to pay him...would you agree?

If you do....then that makes JOE FLACCO the most valuable player in the NFL....if you don't believe me....just as Ozzie Newsome...

Funny to hear YG giving people advice on how ot act on this blog. Nobody fights with more people on this blog.

And are we really expected to believe someone isn't somebody else because they say 'I'm taking the kids to the park'. That's funny....

Believe me buddy, Im not a complete homer, your concerns are very valid. This is why I would like to see Ireland add at least 1 more playmaker calibre qwr via draft.

In no ways do I see adding Wallace alone as a cure all. I hope Ireland doesnt either.

Rhino, you state we don't have the people around Wallace to distract the other teams. Isn't that what we are trying to accomplish? We have the cap space and draft picks to do that. BTW, Wallace IS the distraction. You need to put two guys on him at all times or you will get burnt.

Canadien Craig Moron talking MIAMI football. F'N HILARIOUS!!

Lobo,

I would absolutely love seeing Ireland draft Patterson even if he does sign Wallace.

However, I have very little faith Ireland thinks lik this. My greatest fear is that Ireland signs Wallace and thinks that the job is done.

Only CraigM is a complete Ireland homer here.

I thought Plaxico was the #1.

Whatever.

I'm convinced Wallace can help our team, no argument there. I'm not convinced he is worth the price he is asking, that is the simplest way I can put it. Also I'm not sure signing him means we don't STILL have to find an alpha receiver for the future.

YG4 last year was almost like let's see what we have on the roster before completely rebuilding the team. Especially at wideout.

Craig M....

I told you BEFORE....

There is NO DEBATE when it comes to the worth of Flacco....

arguably the BEST GM in the NFL just made him the highest paid player in NFL history.....Newsome values Flacco more than Brady....or Manning......

I kinda thought that spoke for itself.......

Kris,

He's a good QB but do you honestly think he's as good as Aaron Rodgers who is now making $10 Million a year???

I understand that the Ravens had to pay Flacco b/c he just won the SB but when you have to cut a guy like Boldin & you can't resign your top FA's like Kruger, Ellerbe, & Kruger??? Then you have Ray Lewis retiring, Suggs started to break down & Ed Reed at the end of his career. This may have been the best team Flacco ever plays for.

Wallace doesnt normally get double covered like Brandon Marshall did.

Flacco > Rodgers

Craig M...this is what I said....
-------------------------------
Agree Lobo @ 1:03....

I lean I lean more to player ability then total team game....and I point to the comments a performance of Boldin as my most recent example....but the list is far deep than that....
-----------------------------

This is what you interpreted....
--------------------------------------
You're just after telling me that Boldin single-handedly wins games by himself
-------------------------------------------

do you see the disconnect.....

and IN CONTEXT...i said that I believe that the game is more about individual skill...then it is about TEAM.....and I used Boldin's abilty to be BETTER than the man covering him to make my point....

there really is no contradiction....

Posted by: Kris | March 10, 2013 at 01:30 PM

Kris,

You know dense dick CraigM is comprehensionally handicapped. Give it up man. He's the boards biggest loser.

As long as CraigM's here I'll always be the board's 2nd biggest loser. Thank you CraigM. LOL...

Kris,

Why are we arguing this about Flacco? Your changing the topic. That's not what we were discussing. How are you missing this?

You said previously that Boldin single-handedly wins games for his team. I'm saying he doesn't if he has your 'elite' QB on the same team.

How do you not see that you're contradicting yourself here?

Lobo, I don't think anyone is going to argue with you about drafting another receiver. Even if we sign Wallace, I think we still draft a receiver.

Craig M = Village Idiot

So Kris,

Just so I understand CLEARLY....

What is your point about Boldin?

WNP....

Here is basically what I have been saying.....when everybody wanted to Bash Flacco...i maintained he was probably the 7th best QB in the NFL...he is VERY efficient....he WINS games...

Arron Rodgers is amazing....but all of a sudden...he can't win a playoff game the last 2 years....

Flacco...5 straight years with ICE WATER in his veins..thats to include his rookie year.....Flacco has been consistent and efficient....

You said previously that Boldin single-handedly wins games for his team.
------------------------------------------

Craig M....

Please cut and paste where I said this statement....

thought Plaxico was the #1.

Whatever.

Lobo,

What??? Plax played in 4 games & had 3 catches last year for the Steelers. The last season that Plax played in Pittsburgh before that was 2004 & the last season he had over 1000 yards in Pitt. was in 2002. Hello...

OBVIOUSLY, Craig lives in a bubble. No one argues with anyone as much as they do w/him!
Surely it's not possible for anyone else to think Craig is a self absorbed idiot!

That's called denial! Sorry bud, that distinction is not exclusive to YG.

Kris,

Why are we arguing this about Flacco? Your changing the topic.

Posted by: Craig M | March 10, 2013 at 01:39 PM

"YOUR CHANGING THE TOPIC" is CraigM's favorte excuse when he sees he's lost an arguement. Start paying attention folks. He said this to me thousands of times.

It's always:

"YOUR'RE CHANGING THE THE TOPIC"

LOL.................................................

Clarify your statement on Boldin please Kris....

So Kris,

Just so I understand CLEARLY....

What is your point about Boldin?

Posted by: Craig M | March 10, 2013 at 01:41 PM

YOU GUYS SEE THIS SHT? WHEN HAS CRAIGM EVER UNDERSTOOD ANYTHING "CLEARLY" EXCEPT WHEN YOURE SHEEPISHLY AGREEING WITH HIS BS?

ROTFLMAO................................................

Clarify your statement on Boldin please Kris....

TRANSLATION:

"I'll never listen no matter how many times that you tell me. Even if youre right"

LOL....

LOBO AND THE REST:

JERRY RICE NUMBERS HIS FIRST 4 YEARS.

4,881 YARDS 49TDs(22 in year he broke record) AVG YARDS PER CATCH 14.6

SO HE HAD 839 MORE YARDS AND 17 MORE TDS THAN WALLACE AT THE SAME POINT IN THEIR CAREER.

BUT NOW ARE YOU GOING TO PUT BIG BEN ON THE SAME LEVEL AS JOE AND YOUNG?

LOL.

OR WAS JERRY BETTER THAN WALLACE BECAUSE HE HAD BETTER QB PLAY.

YOU CAN't PLAY THE LEFT THEN IN THE NEXT BREATH THE RIGHT.

Craig M...

My point is (again)....

players make plays....

I want as many GREAT players on my team as possible.....

I want Bush...I want Wallace.....I want Jennings....I want Mindenhall...I want Stephen Jackson....

I want a pro-bowl team....I want play makers.....

That wanting play makers doesn't take away from the worth of Flacco....it only ADDS to it...

or in over used blog words....it gave him weapons....

Funny that YG, sits there in the weeds commenting on others.

What's up, bud? Is it because I 'OWNED you this week....LOL.....I 'crushed' you...

If you don't want to argue with someone then don't. People can come across as waaaaay hotter about something than they actually are in print. Also you can't pick up on sarcasm and word use. Leads to alot of hostile misunderstandings on blogs and such.

Posted by: Delusions of Grandeur | March 10, 2013 at 01:44 PM

I even admitted, thx to CraigM, Im only the 2nd biggest idiot here. CraigM would never admit to being a total idiot. LOL....

All the proof you guys need that Im only the 2nd biggest idiot here. LOL...

I WOUL LOVE TO GET WALLACE AND STILL GET A PATTERSON OR ALLEN ALSO.

WALLACE SHOULD ONLY BE THE START NOT THE END.

THAT's WHERE THEY MESSED UP WITH MARSHALL

Craig M...

the reason you can't understand my POINT on Boldin...is because you are using an imaginary quote/post to make your point....what you are arguing....I NEVER SAID....

AGAIN.....

Dear bloggers,

Craig M is mentally unstable and possibly unfit for society. Blog with him at your own risk.

Kris,

Who is everyone??? All I know is that I came to this blog last off season & I've always thougt Flacco was a good, solid QB. Anyone who disagrees is just wrong. Even before this season he played extremely well in the playoffs last year. Look...I like Flacco & if Tannehill can come close to that I'd be happy.

IMO--Flacco doesn't get enough credit for his elusiveness & his ability to make players miss. For a guy his size it's extremely impressive. Just like with Marino--people judge Flacco b/c of his arm but what often gets ignored is his footwork which is CRITICAL in becoming a good NFL QB. And footwork or elusiveness is not about how fast you can run the 40, it's the ability to avoid sacks & give your receivers a chance to get open so a QB can throw the ball down the field.

u 2 are hilarious.

AS FAR AS RICE.

DON't FORGET RICE ALSO HAD TAYLOR ON THE OTHER SIDE FOR YEARS.

Here is what I am hoping...

Ireland has his eye on Patterson. He can't be sure he will get him. So he covers the WR position ahead of time with Wallace so the situation isn't so desperate. Then still goes after Patterson in the draft. Forget these generic other receivers on the squad, then we have Wallace, Patterson, Hartline and Bess.

That I LIKE!!!!

Personally guys, fk Joe Flacco, last I checked he didnt win a sb in Miami. As dolfans, we have far bigger fish to fry. LOL...

yes it would playmakers i agree

lobo,

Im 100% with you on Patterson today. But as you know, I could change my mind by tomorrow. LOL...

Mike Wallace is a very good receiver. He has his known drops from time to time and that is record.

That being said he has the ONE RARE commodity that can't be taught. That is functional, football speed, with pads on. It's one thing to be fast at a combine or Pro day clocking...it's quite another to see a guy just run by an NFL defender and create space.

Mike Wallace has that as much as any player in the NFL including Chris Johnson. The caveat and exclamation point on Mike Wallace versus the Tevon Austin's and Marquise Goodwin's in the draft is...he has done it in the NFL already. In this "No-Touchy" league I want our Fins to have the free "You were gonna beat me like a drum" holds and P.I.s that Wallace will draw.

That is essentially what you pay for. It is one thing to be the BMOC in college, just ask Pat White and a litany of other "college studs" that never panned out in the NFL.

Everyone balked at the deal V-Jax signed in Tampa...it is starting to look more bargain-ish in this pass happy NFL.

Tannehill is far from finished and nowhere near perfect with his limited time at QB period. He did outplay many people's expectations (including my own) for the most part. What he did do quite a bit was extend plays. With Wallace's speed and a play breaking down that is the perfect storm for a quick strike.

You also saw numerous times where Tannehill overthrew Bess (Deep?? really?) and other receivers. That is the type of ball Wallace can hunt down and run under.

Wallace has experience, he is blazing fast, has numbers that rival most any top WR, rarely gets hurt, young...not much downside to me.

All things being said, I really believe that this would be a good investment for the team. I would STILL want WR Markus Wheaton and/or Quinton Patton as late 2nd or 3rd round guy(s) to further add TD making ability to the Offense.

Cheers,

My point is (again)....

Kris,

If we get Mendenhall who is a legitimate lead back will you stop with Bush already??? Some team will pay him more & he's not coming back.

After Jackson, Mendenhall is my favorite back in FA & could very easily become the starter with Miller becoming the 3rd down back. If Mendenhall is signed then I think those reports about the coaches having confidence in Miller to be the starter were b#llshit. Miller barely played last year so why would the coaches be so high on him all of a sudden??? I'm not buying it yet.

Posted by: Rob in OC | March 10, 2013 at 02:00 PM

Rob OC,

Was this a term paper you forgot to turn in back in college? LOL...

Great post Rob.

LOBO:

I AGREE 100 PERCENT.

WALLACE PATTERSON OR ALLEN AND HARTLINE IN THE SLOT

LOL...Sup YG! I make em long just for you bud. HA!

Cheers,

I would personally drive down to Miami and kick Ireland's ass if he lets Bush walk to turn around and make Miller a 3rd down back.

I would also hope Ross would fire him on the spot. Mendenhall a starter? Gimme a break. He would only replace Thomas as the short yardage back.

miller will be be better than medenhurt

YG....

Being in B'more when he arrived....and watching him grow....its like watching your kid leave the nest....

a few years back...when Flacco and the Ravens lost the AFC Championship game (to the steelers I think)....

Me and my wife were in Cheesecake factory in Towson, MD.....

Flacco walked in with his wife/girlfriend.....

NOBODY even acknowledged him.....and the Ravens fans love their players.....Flacco looked dejected.....and this 6-6 slim dude with his head hanging low was a terrible sight to watch when trying to enjoy dinner....

anyway...Flacco left before I did...NOBODY spoke to him once....

I'd love to see the reaction of those fickle fans now.....

WNP..Thnx bro.

Cheers,

WNP....

we land Mendenhall.....I won't mention Bush again....you have my word....

Kris,

I was in B'more a few years back. Enjoyed the Inner Harbor and took lots of pictures outside of the Espn building.
