Dolphins interest in DE Michael Bennett makes sense

Agent Drew Rosenhaus has a gift for getting the Miami Dolphins interested in his clients.

Sometimes that's been a problem such as the year he got tight end Eric Green to Miami as the signature free agent signing when the team really needed a defensive end. Sometimes, it's blessing.

Consider this a better moment because the Dolphins are interested in prospective Tampa Bay free agent defensive end Michael Bennett, a Rosenhaus client.

Bennett, one of the top pass rushers on the free agent market, is visiting the Dolphins today, The Herald's Adam Beasley has confirmed.

It makes sense.

Bennett, a five-year veteran, had nine sacks last season and the Dolphins desperately would like to add a classic 4-3 defensive end to put on the other side of the line opposite Pro Bowl defensive end Cameron Wake.

Bennet also makes sense for Miami because of the familiarity. He played at Texas A&M under Mike Sherman, now the Dolphins offensive coordinator. It's not a stretch to believe Sherman knows his former player.

Bennett has 13 sacks in the last two seasons (in 30 games) and 15 sacks in his career. Tampa Bay has said it wants Bennett back but obviously has not done enough to get him.

Craigarrhea posts and blabs and posts and blabs but sheesh the guy never seems to learn ANYTHING.

phins why do u care what espn does, that network is garbage

Plus we can easily get 2 corners in the draft it's a position of depth this year

fin4life, I don't remember any loss hurting as much as that one against SD

JB still sucked though, remember the Bills eating himup for years...

Dang you Olivadotti!!!

After the big first day it looks like we're getting back to the typical Ireland pace.

Players come visit and players leave..without a contract.

Lots of holes to fill especially with Long, Smith, and Fasano now gone.

YG your logic on Vernon does make sense but what about Odrick? Does he just become a 3rd down back up pass rusher inside?

I am just wondering if Ireland has the luxury to do this? He has huge holes at RT, 2 CBs, and 2 TEs.

He better start addressing some of these positions. Without a RT, he will not have a QB to throw the ball. The situation at corner is horrible and we have no quality TEs. What is Ireland waiting for to address this positions? He plans to address this all in the draft?

Guys get it Straight !

Heres the Plan:

Move Odrick inside a year (rotate & push solai/ create competition with the two)Dont forget about Shelby, they like him. The same as he will draft a FS to plug behind Clemons (Clemons could wake up)

#12 is a bad draft number for the CB position, milner gone (please please dont trade up, we need the 5 picks inside 3 rounds). Watch the Trufant tape against USC, hes not ready to plug & play (No how No way). Rhodes @ 12, stretchhhhhhh, I bet he cuts marshall/patterson

Signs: the UM kid @ Green Bay (Shields0 (perfect 4 years in league, may cost a 3 @ as RFA & Picks gambles on Amerson in the 2nd

Ih he passes on Rhodes @12, & signs Bennett, then its simple/ hes picking Eifert @ 12

dont want to be starting 2 rookie corners

rhodes better be the pick at 12 at this point

Guys we are on the right track we got the guy we wanted , we got new linebackers with speed we retained a few key players , now we are shopping , maybe window shopping

Bellichik has offered the Jets his 1st rd pick for Revis. Per "Incarerated Bob".

We still have Patterson , Marshall , Stanford , carrol , Wilson , and a couple of acorns we will be fine

LOL @ Dusty...and his ONE MAN boycott against ESPN (the man)....

We will draft 2 very good corners

Let free agency take its course we are not done

Jets havent moved on Tampa Bay's offer for Revis because the Bucs wont give a 1st rd pick.

Jets are balking at Bellichik's offer of a 1st rd pick because the Jets dont want to trade Revis inside of the division.

Incarcerated Bob says the Jets need to take Bellichik's offer because they wont be competitive again until Revis's hairline recceed's further than Lebron's.

marc thats the worst set of corners in nfl

Bennett is young and he's a hunter man I like this kid

really kris? didnt know u still followed that garbage. havent watched it in years. nfl network among others much much better. or keep watching booooooooooooooyahhhhhhhhhhhh

Dusty you are not reading we will draft 2 very good young corners playing with a veteran defense

How many starters have we lost? 6-7? YIKES!!!!

bennet looks solid. but most every buc should get sacks cause teams did was throw every down on them

This defense will be on FIRE man

If they sign Bennett, what does that say about Vernon? Signing for depth? Hmm...

Our front seven is nasty our safeties are very good and 2 young studs at corner

Pass rushers ,,,,,,you can never have enough ......oscar

5) I hate the Miami Dolphins' spending spree
Mike Wallace topped my list of the riskiest free agents because of his unreliable hands and poor attitude. I said he would never live up to whatever contract he received. Well, Wallace is now the third-highest paid receiver in the NFL, and that doesn't make sense. Wallace is getting five years and $60 million with $27 million guaranteed from Miami.

I didn't like what the Dolphins paid for Dannell Ellerbe or Philip Wheeler, either. . they all rip us, but who cares

Sign Grimes, trade up to # 4 or 5 and get Millner. Grimes and Millner sounds good to me. But then again, there will be biching......damned if you do, damned if you dont!

marc u cant just assume we will find 2 good corners in draft and have them be good right off bat. thats just plain dumb

Wait till September you will like it then

I will say it on the record wait till draft day we will find 2 stud corners ,,,,,,,,,,

I think Ireland is already setting himself up for next years off season as well.

I love this, Jeff is actually anticipating things ahead of time. I'm almost positive he'll keep some rollover money and the structuring of contracts is trending favorably towards our future.

More importantly, I believe Ireland can already count on two pretty decent compensatory picks coming from Long and Smith. I'm not exactly sure how it works, but extra draft picks are extra draft picks.

This is indeed a pivitol moment in Ireland's career. If he aces this off season and we improve enough to make the playoffs. Ireland will have us set up to be Very Good for a Very Long Time.

I don't believe I'm typing this about Ireland.......but.......GO JEFFY!!!!

agree on grimes big time, guy can play

The Palm Beach Post reported that the fins have over 24 million dollars still available. What is Ireland waiting for. I know about 6M have to be used on the draft but that still leaves 18M.

He has to have something under his sleeve.

BTW- I heard that on WV's pro day Tavon Austin was a amazing. According to Adam Schefter "he stole the show". I was hoping that he would slip to our first pick in the second round but I can't see him getting past St Louis at 22. Should the fins use their 1st round pick on him. Tavon will be dynamite in the NFL.

Situational pass rusher, Marc. Ok.

you know my motto...to each his own..I don't judge.....

but just so you know...the NFL NETWORK is little more than a mouth piece for Goddel and the the Owners.....true COMPANY TV....and thats alright if you thats what you like....

ESPN doesn't fall far from that tree....but they get a LITTLE leeway.....with the Brushchi rants....as well as other former players....

The more local (away from national coverage) you get the more liberal they get with their tongues...and thats what I like....candor.....a player or coach who speaks openly because he thinks it may not get picked up nationally....and sometimes it shouldn't.....

I said all that to say....watch what you want man....you just seem to take exception EVERY time somebody writes ESPN on this blog...and i find it funny.......

I will say it on the record:

Ireland cannot handle player personnel.

I love the idea of Michael Bennet, another DE that can get to the QB will only help. Now teams won't have the luxury of double teaming Wake. We can play more man to man and let our front 4 get to the QB, without having to rely on the Blitz to get pressure on the QB. We know have some speedy LB's that can cover TE, and RB's one on one. Pressure creates turnovers, QB's under pressure tend to make more errors and throw bad picks.

ireland has around 12 mill left. have to pay practice squad among few other things

Keller has left miami no dice,,,,,,,,,

Ireland is doing great! He has been since Parcells left. The jury is still out on a few of his picks, but overall he's done great. Now this year, he's killing it in FA! Unfortunately, I don't think we'll get any comp picks next year because of our own FA signings. They will trump what we lost in Long, Bush, and Smith. Probably no picks at all, but that's kool.

Nobody can say Miami has done good or bad in FA, or any other Team for that matter. It has to be played out.

If Ireland can Bennett signed, Wake/Bennet Ellerbe/Wheeler are better rushing the qb. Doesnt have to be a landslide of sacks, but increasing "QB PRESSURES" limit the opportunities our corners would be exposed.

Great qb pressures lead to more incomplete passes, picks, and sacks. So next best thing to shut down corners is increased pass pressures. Add this with Xavier Rhodes is now more liklier than ever to be our 1st rd pick.

Dusty I just heard we 24 mil. Left under the cap

Damn I remember, your right that was a good team.

Fin4Life is ALWAYS Right!

(Except when he disagrees with me....)

Keller has left miami no dice,,,,,,,,,

Now that's the Ireland we've grown to hate. Unable to close any deal.

Here is the quote from the Palm Beach post indicating that the fins have 31.5 M before the Wallace signing which is estimated at 7M a year.

Palm Beach Post:

We don’t have the numbers yet on Mike Wallace, but assuming his contract is structured similarly, expect his salary cap number to be around $7 million.

Here is the Dolphins’ full salary cap picture after adding Ellerbe and Wheeler. They’ve spent $96.77 million against the salary cap of $128.3 million, so before adding in Wallace they have about $31.5 million in cap space:

Well said YG

dont care what anyone really says on fins moves. my honest opinion is we didnt get much better.....yet. hope more to come. we overpaid for wallace but hes damn good. now ellerbe getting 7 mill a year is a joke, hes started 6 games in his career at 27 years old. wheeler getting 5 mill was hilarious, hes never done a thing really. but still good moves getting rid of those overpaid old bums at lb. so lets hope many more moves come, if not id say we got maybe one win better of a team. which would put us 7-9 again since our schedule is much more tougher

Phins are gauging the market on Keller ,,,,,,,,,,,,like I said no dice

fin4life, I don't remember any loss hurting as much as that one against SD

JB still sucked though, remember the Bills eating himup for years...

Dang you Olivadotti!!!

Mark in Toronto | March 14, 2013 at 05:26 PM

Agreed! That was Marino's last real shot at a Title on team that had GREAT CHEMISTRY! Why that group was blown up in 95 is still one of those mysteries that will haunt the FRANCHISE for ever, especially when analyzing the moves at supposed upgrades in that 19 1st-RD S.B. or bust 95 team.

But dusty the dead wood is gone

yeah it is funny kris, that network is such garbage. but hell i rarely watch any tv. sports radio now i love that

Posted by: dusty bottoms | March 14, 2013 at 05:51 PM

Agree Dusty....best part of my day is the drive home.....to bad I have to listen to SKINS radio....might need to go back to satellite if the FINS return to there former winning ways....

Got a free lifetime subscription with Siruis back in like 04...still active....I just sweated out the receiver @ the gym in like 06....and never bought a new one.....

maybe its time.....

we got worse in FA

Well, Belichick will have to do something with the cap space Brady liberated for his team sooner or later. A Revis deal could be the only move he has left at this point, and it totally makes sense now that Mike Wallace lurks Miami. Their biggest weak spots is their defense anyway.

Which means Jets can ask for much more than a first rounder, because there is nothing else left for the patsies in FA.

I think IB will be right on this one.

And Dolphins should rise the stakes a little bit more I believe.

and kellers gone, so another need for draft. we have so many needs no way draft will fill them. this is getting depressing after such a fast start

So no what at TE? Browns are about to sign TE Fred Davis.

If Ireland can't sign Kellar or Brandon Myers. Our starting TEs (for now) are Clay and Egnew.

What is Ireland doing? Does he have a surprise for us?

Orlando...I hope so....

cause its awful quite on the FINS front....

Thank you, great job. You made it a little worse for everyone in here. Congrats.

The Blog has always had a length limit. It was shortened just a few weeks ago when Armando banned Home and a few others for outright impostoring.

The night the blog got shut down, over a year ago, had nothing to do with this latest "adjustment".
