Dolphins interest in DE Michael Bennett makes sense

Agent Drew Rosenhaus has a gift for getting the Miami Dolphins interested in his clients.

Sometimes that's been a problem such as the year he got tight end Eric Green to Miami as the signature free agent signing when the team really needed a defensive end. Sometimes, it's blessing.

Consider this a better moment because the Dolphins are interested in prospective Tampa Bay free agent defensive end Michael Bennett, a Rosenhaus client.

Bennett, one of the top pass rushers on the free agent market, is visiting the Dolphins today, The Herald's Adam Beasley has confirmed.

It makes sense.

Bennett, a five-year veteran, had nine sacks last season and the Dolphins desperately would like to add a classic 4-3 defensive end to put on the other side of the line opposite Pro Bowl defensive end Cameron Wake.

Bennet also makes sense for Miami because of the familiarity. He played at Texas A&M under Mike Sherman, now the Dolphins offensive coordinator. It's not a stretch to believe Sherman knows his former player.

Bennett has 13 sacks in the last two seasons (in 30 games) and 15 sacks in his career. Tampa Bay has said it wants Bennett back but obviously has not done enough to get him.

Keller brings nothing we don't already have in Clay. Egnew who knows. Why waste money on an injury prone average TE. Draft a young TE and develop him.

Most of these FA's are still available for a reason. They are nothing more than place holders. We don't need a place holder TE.

Yea, it's a good sign that Ireland is at least trying to be a better GM.

But I see no reason he should have been given the chance to learn how to be a GM here - he's totally replaceable, there are thousands, not hundreds, of scouts around the league that have the amount of experience he had when Parcells gave him Miami's GM job.

As an added benefit, a large portion of those scouts weren't poisoned by Parcells.

YG if you keep writing in those caps the YG is ALoco post r gonna start.

Dolphins desperately need a place holder TE...

The sad truth is that Egnew is the young TE they're developing. Need a safe backup in case Egnew doesn't pan out.

I think Irelands age is higher then his IQ.

Got a point there Mr. Rick. but there are still worse posters names in here I could be called. Like CraigM for starters. LOL...

Jon made a great point I want to add to. Some of these better teams can really only sign one high priced player and now have to wait for acorns to drop after the second tiers are almost depleted. I think we're in a really great position to get some good value signings in the next few days.

Lois, perfect name for you by the way.

Ireland wasn't poisoned. That is immature, silly thinking. He was a super young GM that needed some time to learn. Looks to me like he is progressing rapidly.

Why don't you stop for a minute and look around, you will find a good 20 GM's worse than Ireland. You probably lick up everything Polian says....he was fired for not having a team that could compete without an all world QB.

Bennett agrees to a deal with Seattle while he's on his visit here!!!

That Ol' Ireland Magic (viz Ryan Clarke) at work again. There's no substitute for a winning personality, huh Jeffy?

Fins HAVE TO OVERPAY for FAs.......no one wants to play for Ireland unless VERY well compensated.

Wallace & Ellerbe & one good FA day don't erase our League Laughingstock status.

Separation, sorry but there will be a lot of mis spelled words, dont care tonight.

DD @ 9:39,

Agreed. Who Says Ireland Hasn't Turned The Corner?

Ireland Has Actually Gotten Better Every Year!! But People Fail To Recognize That.

They Rather Have Somebody Who Is Burned Out And At The End Of Their Careers. Like B.Polian or B.Belichek!!

The only ones that support Irescum are the Jests fans!

ALoco I have food poisoning from going to the Recovery Zone for lunch today! I hope you guys are more careful with your food.

..YG..(lol) I have an audience..Sweet!

It gets a bit frustrating. The team is trying to improve. It seems like no matter what the team does it wouldn't be good enough. Ireland may go down in flames. But at least there is effort.

See that you must be new here. Because its next to impossible to change anyone's point of view here. Even if the dolphins win a sb with Ireland as gm. There will still be Fireland supporters here because we didnt win by 50pts.

..Alright fellas..Have a good one. Going to catch the end of the WBC game.. Dom Rep 1-USA 1 bottom 8.

See my 9:54 pm post. LOL...

Just one, a jet can screw ANYTHING up!

Ireland's "good" moves have been totally reactive. He's a step behind. Constantly.

Maybe he's learning. Maybe he'll get better as a GM. But it's a steep price to pay.

I think that has been fair to state about him in the past. I think Ireland has started to get "ahead of the curve recently though". He was preparing for J.Long walking when he took Martin last year. He also got ahead this year by swapping Burnett and Dansby for Ellerbe and Wheeler. He is definitely getting ahead and he isn't done yet.
We have plenty of cash and plenty of draft picks. We will be better next year without a doubt.

Hireland, could you name a GM worse than Jeff Ireland?

Agreed DDs posts have been good reads. Good job Darryl, poster of the night.

( Sorry but there is no prize. ;)

Tell Me How Does A Rare Steak Taste After Siting For 10-15 Minutes and Blood Is Still Oozing Out.

Take That Back The Only Time Dashi Eats Raw Meat Is When Eats Some Carpaccio.

I don't like Polian as a GM or as an analyst.

I have perspective on what other NFL teams are doing, I can't think of one that has made as consistently poor decisions as Ireland.

Jeff Ireland has more busts then Dolly Parton

The linebacker swap was definitely an "ahead of the curve" move.

But he sure went about it in the wrong way, overpaid both young linebackers based on potential. Those contracts will hurt if both players don't get much better next season.

Ireland dumped Crowder for his big mouth and average play a few seasons ago. Then found the playing next to eachother, the poison had already spread to Dansby.

So this time around he made sure that he got both the infector(Dansby) and infectee(Burnett). Birds of a feather flock together.

Dashi that reminds me. Don't let your burgers or steaks sit out before grilling this summer. Take them directly from cooler or fridge to grill. That way they don't stick! Also, never press your meat while cooking, robs it of flavor. Just some friendly bbq advice!

I'm bored, this post is informative yet sad.

There were at least 4 gm's fired this offseason. I would rank Ireland at least in the top 15 of nfl gm's.

Be careful what you wish for, because many times its out of the frying pan and straight into the fire.

Lois Lane

How did Tannebum do in NY?
How's Buffalo doing?
Jax with Blaine and Henne?
How are the Titans doing?
What's up with SD they could never win it even with talent.
Cleveland, how have they done?

You obviously don't have the capability to do even 3rd grade level research.

I'll also point out that just like the case of Polian and that "genius" in Green Bay, GMs don't matter nearly as much as quarterbacks in the NFL.

I don't even give GMs credit or blame for the quarterbacks they pick, history shows that it's impossible to predict how college QBs will work.

But you have to have the mindset that the QB is the most important thing to a franchise, not that you can build around a scrub like Henne.

Ireland should have been fired for his 2011 draft and I don't give him credit for being forced to draft Tannehill. He did not have the option to not take Tannehill at #8.

Now that Tannehill's here, I'm hoping for the best. But he needs to grow by leaps and bounds, it's a very tall order.

Cleveland beat us 3 in a row. We're in no position to knock em.

Agreed. With All The Cooking Advice Thanks. I Picked Up The Burger Thing Recently. And Agreed. Burgers Are Juicier When You Don't Press. A Lot Of People Don't Know That. Dashi Didn't Know That.

And Aloco, Medium Well Doesn't Mean Burnt!! Just That It Is Cooked.

The linebacker swap was definitely an "ahead of the curve" move.

How so? He signed hungry up and coming players that were highly sought out and ACTUALLY saved us money in the long run. The Ravens and Raiders wanted to keep those guys and just couldn't afford them. That's how FA works! If there is someone worth a damn, you will have to pay. Otherwise you are getting a stopgap veteran or a locker room headache.

Agreed. The Cancer And The Infected Had To Go.

And People. Ireland Still Has Over $20m In Cap!!

With Our Biggest Needs Signed!! 2 WR's And 2 LB's!!

Red meat should not be eaten beyond medium. It is much harder to digest and it loses much of its nutrients.

I don't know and don't care to look up the records of those GMs but I bet they have brought in more talent than Jeff Ireland.

You might consider whether childishly insulting people is an effective way to have your opinions respected.

YG I'm of the opinion that Dansby was on his way out the moment he questioned Philbin on the Johnson thing during training camp. Dansby calls himself a leader, idiot Omar calls him a leader on nfl32 but he went behind his own coaches back and publicly questioned the move and acted so upset by it instead of getting Philbins take first. That's no leader, complaints go up and when they go down in a team environment ( when your sgt. is dissing his capt. to his recruits) it's completely dysfunctional. But hell, I'll buy that this was a long time coming if he was doing the same crap back then.

On my pitbull's birthday we both have a 24 ounce porterhouse steak eaten raw. He eats his from fine china and so do I.

I Just Leave My Meat On An Extra 5 Minutes. That's All Then. Dashi Said Medium Well, Not Well Done.

The Dominicans Win!! Yes!!

Both those players were offered far more money than any other team was prepared to offer. That's based off perception of their value, not cap space.

Ellerbe is a big risk, he came into last year as a third stringer and only started due to injury. He played well, but he wasn't lights out. Expecting a lot for him to reach another level that justifies his contract in his fifth year in the league.

I don't know and don't care to look up the records of those GMs but I bet they have brought in more talent than Jeff Ireland.

This has to be the greatest testament to ignorance and stupidity that exists. So you prefer to be in denial. You prefer to avoid reality just so you can satisfy some desire to put down Ireland.

Dude you ain't worth another word of anybody's time. I hope they revoke your voting rights.

Dansby suffered from Crowderitis. When releasing Crowder Ireland didnt know Dansby had become infected to. Thats why upon releasing Dansby, Burnett was released to.

Playing next Dansby he may have also picked up Crowderitis.

Not to mention the cancer causing carcinogens in any meat that gets charred, careful people! Have to go gents, it's been real.

This lois girlboy is a perfect example of American society. Lazy, in denial, and doesn't even care to inform himself on that which he is speaking about. If everybody was like him, humans still would not have invented the hammer.

Yg lol at 10:17. Good night guys.

BTW, I like how Ireland is giving backloaded deals with little guaranteed cash. It keeps guys from getting complacent after a big payday in FA. It sends the message if you don't play hard, you will be gone but if you do u will be rewarded for excelling at your craft.

The Dansby Sympathizers Astonish Dashi.

Dashi Doesn't Mind Repeating The Stats On How Dansby Sucks!!

But Anyone Who Saw A Dolphin Game! Specially The 4th Qtr!! And Anytime They Played A Fast RB or Running QB!! Knows How Much Dansby Sucked!! Oh, And DANSBY COULDN'T COVER TE's TO SAVE HIS LIFE!!

Since Z.Thomas Retired The Fins Haven't Had A Shutout!! Or Covered A TE OR RB!!

Ellerbe Is Getting Paid Less Than Burnett Per Year!! Not Just Dansby!!

And If Ellerbe Was Suppose To Replace Ray Lewis!! Dashi Bets He Can Certainly Replace Dansby!!

You also don't know and don't care.

Just threw out a bunch of teams with bad quarterbacks and bad records.

If you care to look up the drafting history of those teams feel free.

Wow, some real internet tough guys on this blog.

A bit sad, please ignore my future posts "Hireland", I'm not interested in your level of discourse.
