« Mike Wallace getting interest from teams (no surprise) | Main | Dolphins officially interested in Wallace, but ... »

Market for Reggie Bush is strong

The market for Reggie Bush is a good one, with multiple teams showing significant interest in the prospective free agent running back.

A source very close to Bush tells me three teams have been talking to Bush agent Joel Segal and that money involved in those talks is significant. The source would provide no details of the money or name the teams but it is clear the interest in Bush isn't just of the making-a-call variety.

The source is, however, telling me the Dolphins are not one of those teams.

Indeed, the source is saying Reggie Bush categorically will not be back in Miami.

Segal has not been available for comment. (Neither have most agents, by the way).

The idea that the Dolphins aren't working to bring Bush back is not unexpected. The club showed zero interest in doing a contract with him during the 2012 season and had only lukewarm interest recently.

The Dolphins expect to address their soon-to-be vacant running back position by giving Lamar Miller (first) and Daniel Thomas (second) the opportunity to win the job. The club might also add a running back either in free agency or the draft.

Bush gained 986 yards on 227 carries (4.3 yards per carry) last season. He scored six touchdowns on the ground and was also the team's fourth-leading pass catcher with 35 receptions for 292 yards and 2 TDs.

It was Bush's second season with Miami. It was also Bush's final season with Miami.

I agree with the poster above. People are enamored with his name just like they are with a "speed" WR. I've seen no evidence Reggie can be a #1 RB or that Wallace can be a #1 WR.

I want a proven guy that can rely on outsmarting the opposition with a variety of moves and routes. Much much more than a guy who can outrun a defense occasionally.

You havent a clue what Philbin/Sherman want dkhead. You run your fking dick massager like you knmow something. Youre as fking dumb as anyone else here fk fack face.

I can spew my opinion as much as I like. You dont like it pass over dipsht. I hate every offseason move I see thus far. I do have the right to be pissed. I do have the right to voice it.

Go fk yourself. This isnt the day or time to fk with me.

People love Bush b/c he's he shows flashes of the playmaking ability that he had at USC which won him the Heisman & got him drafted @ Number Two. The truth however is that he has not even come close to the hype as a pro & although he had his best season as in the NFL in 2011--just look at guys like AP or Arian Foster or Steven Jackson or Gore who run for over 1000 plus yards EVERY year.

Bottom line--He's not a work horse back like the guys I mentioned above but he could help a team that needs a 3rd down back with speed.

There's THREE guys that teams will overpay for in FA that I can think of, of the top of my head.

Reggie Bush
Sean Smith
Jake Long

Let someone else make the mistakes on these guys. Time to move on.

Craig,

Is that REALLY you??? What took you so long??? LOL.

yg, dont you know craig is better, smarter, richer, etc than everyone on this blog? he's here to lecture people.

why do you dumb fukks talk to such a self absorbed doucher in the first place? you only have yourself to blame now because you have given him the time of day before.

ignore him & he'll go away,. he's a gnat, just like home was.

Just heard mike Wallace will be a fin its a done deal on 560 am

Ireland continues to disrespect good players he brought in here. Its not a glowing endorsement for top fa's to want to play here.

He couldnt at least give Bush's agent a call to see what the asking price is? No matter what you guys say, you can not take away the fact that Bush made a valuable contribution here.

Bush at least deserved a phone call whether Ireland planned to bring him back or not. This player disrespect that spews from our fo is the poison thats killing the entire franchise.

Its not ehat you do in life. Its how you do it that counts most!

I don't like it, I love exciting Players, but if Management thinks Bush don't fit here, then he doesn't.

bobbyd12,

With ALL the concussion awareness in the NFL I would check off any player that had issues with that...in the Pro's and college.

Thomas and his before the draft identifiable "Upright, Eric Dickerson" style got him into trouble in the NFL..."Surprise Ireland!".

I also see that a player that I coveted a lot RB Jahvid Best is probably out of football due to concussion issues. From a skill point the guy tore it up...alas some are not built for the rigors of the NFL and he was one of them.

That is also why, even though Swopes and Tannehill are best buds I walk, don't run from Swopes. He may even make a splash but, I bet with his history he doesn't have a long career in the NFL.

Cheers,

"WNP, Thomas with 2 concussions already has me very concerned. I can definitely see another RB picked up along the way. I am really high on Lamar though."

Bobby,

I share you concerns with Thomas & his health as well but I believe Ireland will draft or sign another RB & I wouldn't sleep on Thigpen.

A true professional we will miss you Reggie a shame you will not be signed again, great for the 2 years as a Dolphin. A shame I only got to wear your no.22 only for 1 year. Good luck with your new team, a true leader.

This Explains Why Most People Don't Want To See "Their" Player Go.

Here's A Hint.

Pick A Better Player To Follow. And You Won't Have To Buy A New Jersey Every Year!!

Look At Craig M... He Bought A Dansby Jersey!! And Thinks The Guy Is The Second Coming Of Z.Thomas!! From The Way Craig Defends Dansby It Sounds Like He Owns Multiple Dansby Jerseys!! Even The Pink One!!

Pick A Better Player!!

Here's A Hint

Wait Til The Guy Signs A Long Term Deal Or Makes A Pro bowl!! With Your Team Before Buying A Jersey!!

Have Higher Standards!!

If You Can't Find A Current Player That Fits The Requirement!! Get A Throwback!! People Won't Say Nothing If You Show Up With A New/Old Marino Jersey. Or A #99 JT!! Or A #54 ZT!! Even A #34 Ricky Jersey!!

Have A Higher Standard!!

I have liked every off season move so far this season. Starks tagged, Moore and Hartline resigned. Long, Bush, Clemmons, McDaniel and Smith allowed to test the FA waters. None of them would be unbearable losses and their salary demands are flat out crazy.

Not at all true about Ireland contacting Bush. Please do your homework.

fyi dashi, using a new alias/name from something a dumber than wood Richard sherman said is pathetic.

richard sherman is an overrated, low life, classless piece of trash.

we can now lump you in with that kind. good job.

Sean Smith's market value just took a hit. PFT reports Chiefs no longer interested after signing cb Dunta Robinson. ROTFLMAO!

We don't know if Ireland reached out to Bush's agent or if Ireland got a feeling for his market and said no thanks. There is a lot that happens that we never hear about. Everything is not leaked to the media. I get a feeling that the team is looking to Lamar Miller to be the featured back and they are willing to spend money in other areas.

Though Reggie hit the occasional big play. He frustrated me by not hitting the hole hard and constantly dancing around. If this article is correct Reggie is probably going to get a contract similar to the one he had before (4.5 million a year) and he is not worth it when you have two good young RBs waiting for their turn. Time to move on.

T'eo a top 5 pick? What combine did u watch? Did u see him get abused my Lacy and company in the title game... this dude is slow and an idiot... as for bush the guy clearly wasn't utilized right there's no reason he should catch less than 50 to 60 balls a yr.. look at his rookie season, that's how he should be used... not to mention teams jam the box bc reggie was all they had and the O-line is absolute garbage... and how many tds have y'all scored the last 2 seasons i'd say about 15 less than reggie... as to the butter head who doesn't like reggies size, dude is 6 foot over 200 lbs were not talkin about dexter mccluster here... I hate when ppl don't know sh*t about football and run their mouth

Posted by: dadsmithwest | March 09, 2013 at 01:39 PM

I only pray you can still feel the same way by 2013's season end. I sincerely hope we're not talking draft by game 12.

Even though he says that he wants his players to speak openly with him, it seems to me that Coach Philbin doesn't want any player on his team who questions his decisions or isn't a choir boy. Watch last year's Hard Knocks on HBO highlighting the Dolphins. Bush and Long were 2 of the players who went to the Coach's office to question his actions, and now we hear that neither Bush nor Long are being considered for a new contract with the Phins. Coincidence? I just hope that Philbin's desire to only have players who blindly follow his lead or who don't have any attitude problems doesn't result in a bland, mediocre team. Time will tell.

Posted by: Orlando Dolphan | March 09, 2013 at 01:41 PM

I'll bet you were all for resigning Hartline for #2 wr money too, werent you? Hartline frustrated hell out of me with inability to score tds.

YG, there were multiple reports of Bush and the Fins talking. I seriously doubt Ireland didn't talk to Bush. It's just not going to work. I liked Reggie, great work ethic, but Reggie wants to be an every down back and be the man. Great guy but time to move on

Do any of you watch football. Reggie had two very good seasons at Miami. He would have been more productive had we used him more consistantly. He have a game with 12 carries for over a hundred yards and barely sniff the ball the next game. He led the league in rushing in his first 6 games at Miami before he got hurt too. Give him respect. If he is placed with the right coordinater, Reggie bush can be one of the most dangerous players in the league.

On the contrary, YG, there are at least 4 Teams interested in SS.

Reggie Bush is a very good running back and the facts back it up. To wit, his rushing average is north of 4.5 a carry over the past two years with over 200 attempts both years. In 2011, toward the end of the season when the Phins had Matt Moore playing well along with threat of Brandon Marshall and a good run blocking offensive line, I dare say, Reggie was dominant at times. In 2012, teams were stacking the box much more , leaving Reggie less room to run. The line didn't block as well either. Also, Reggie didn't seem to get as many carries later in games when run defenses tire. The Phins seemed to de-emphasize him as season progressed. Remember how he started out 2012 on fire?

Having made those points, I can see why the Phins don't want to pay him top dollar. At 28 and with somewhat of a checkered injury history, there is risk. They have Smith waiting in the wings and good running backs are not hard to find later in the draft. The 4-7 million it may take to keep him could be used more efficiently to fill the many many needs that this team has. But don't say he is not a very good running back. If this team didn't have so many needs, they would probably pay him and keep him. He earned it.

I want a proven guy that can rely on outsmarting the opposition with a variety of moves and routes. Much much more than a guy who can outrun a defense occasionally.

I think this is where Ireland needs to be careful. To improve the offense he doesn't necessarily have to break the bank for Wallace or Jennings. If he shores up the TE & RT spot in FA then we can use multiple picks on WR's with some of our early in the draft. I don't think we're going to the SB next year anyway so why not develop Hopkins or Terrance Williams or Keenan Allen. It's also possible that one of these kids will surprise & make a significant contribution this year.

However--I say we need a starting TE as badly as we need a Number 1 WR. If we can't get both--one or the other will still help Tannehill develop.

You frustrate the ehll out of everyone else with your posts of retardation. nitwit

Bush is just asking for more money than he's worth to us. Just like Long.

i will miss reggie bush, as a fan i felt like he was the best weapon on offense the dolhins had. he was
one of the players who had time for the fans. a good
player and person.

thanks reggie

I hope Sean Smith signs elsewhere...I hate guys that are big but play small. I actually think this kid reads his own press clippings...all 6 of them.

Sign FA CB Keenan Allen from Pitt and enjoy the huge upgrade!

Cheers,

We'll see how FA turns out but at this point here is where I would go with the draft. My picks prior to FA signings:

1. Chance Warmack G Best player in the draft.
2a. Tavon Austin WR Most dynamic WR in draft, 4.3 speed.
2b. Jamar Taylor CB
3a. Ryan Swope WR 4.3 speed, T-hill's top receiver at A&M.
3b. Gavin Escobar TE Read a report that Ireland loves this guy.
4a. Monte Ball RB This guy is a hidden gem.

Hopefully, we sign Winston RT, Bennet TE, and resign Smith at 8 Million a year, and Clemmons,

On the contrary, YG, there are at least 4 Teams interested in SS.

Oscar,

I wasnt saying there are no teams interested. Just saying KC's off of the list. Its reduces his bargaining power by 1/5th.

I can throw anything at you, YG, and you will not know if it is true or not. I know that, for some reasons, you don't look things up.

BubbleRefuge @ 1:48...Well thought out post. Nice job.

Cheers,

So what? S. Smith SUCKS. Always has, always will. D. Robinson was the first CB to sign so he essentially set the market. And I'm sure he didn't get near what Smith thinks he'll get.

If all he wants is money, which has been rumored, thats exactly the kind of player I don't want on my team. And if he or Long think thye are worth what they think they are, I think it's going to be a LONG FA period for them.

wow, 3 teams talked to Bush? thats incredible!!!

lol

I disagree with that too about Coach Philbin. It kills me when you guys pull these untrue wild claims and sling them around like they are fact. If you recall Long was considered for a contract and felt insulted.

Furthermore, This FO and coaches have every right to bring in their kind of players to fit into the system in any case. Their jobs are riding on the players on this team. They are the ones held responsible for the W-L columns.

I have liked every off season move so far this season. Starks tagged, Moore and Hartline resigned. Long, Bush, Clemmons, McDaniel and Smith allowed to test the FA waters. None of them would be unbearable losses and their salary demands are flat out crazy.

Dadsmith,

Couldn't agree more. Even with the mistakes he has made in the past he still has a chance to right the ship with this FA & this draft. Maybe it was Parcells who f#cked things up in the first three years....I know people have already judged the 2012 draft--which is retarded--there are a bunch of guys who may make some fans rethink that.

BTW--My last post was to you.

Bobbyd12,

My point was that I sincerely hope Ireland isnt disrespecting players walkin g out the door. Just when the proposition of a top fa coming here may have risen from ice cold to lukewarm.

Since the BP/Ireland days, Miami hasnt exactly been a hotbed in of fa disireability. We just can not afford any more hits in this area.

The biggest reason most think we should keep Reggie is that we have tons of cap space. What they don't seem to admit is we also have tons of holes. Letting a situational back leave so we can address all the teams needs and let a younger player take on his role is how sports works.

Good luck Reggie you had some great games for us!

Rob,

I am with you on Smith but CBs are very expensive and I am not sure that there are any out there better than Smith. I wanted to franchise him so that we did not comit so many years to him (frankly his commitment worries me). At this point we would be taking someone else's reject and at least we know what we have with Smith. I would have drafted a CB this year in the first two rounds and took another in the first round next year. I would have let Smith walk next year. We are in a tough spot at CB; we are just to thin at that position.

ArmandoSalguero I get Dolphins thinking on letting Bush walk. But counting on concussion machine Daniel Thomas to compete for starting job? Blind faith.

Armando is the gaiest, dumbest writer in the NFL. LAMAR is replacing Bush's carries, IDIOT.

WNP, I look forward to Tuesday. I think the Dolphins are going to make an impressive run in FA.

So what?

Finfan,

I wouldn't put too much stock into what reports tou read concerning things like 'this guy only cares about money.' It comes down to whether the guy can play at a high level & if he can well, then he deserves to be paid whatever a team deems he is worth.

My problem with Long & Smith has never really been about the money (although it's laughable to read some of the reported amounts) BUT more about their inability to play at a high level. Now if Long was up for a new contract in 2010 or even 2011 I'd say we have to break the bank to keep him BUT this year (which was a contract year) was ugly. And then came the injury.

As for Smith he's never consistently played at a high level. He's never been considered for a Pro-Bowl, he's not a playmaker, & although he has great size--he doesn't jam & dominate the smaller receivers.

YG, that I agree with you. Maybe I am wrong but I see Ireland as a guy who has learned from the past. He has admitted to mistakes on the WR corps the last two years. He is now unshackled from Parcells and seems to be his own guy. Hopefully that is the case

I'm, also worried, Orlando. What if any of those Teams offer SS 10 mill? Hmm...

YG,

Why don't you tell us again how Ireland just 'direspects the stars' and that the decision to let Bush walk had nothing to do with Philbin and Sherman. Tell us man....cause you KNOW. 'Inside reporter, on the scene, YG'.

'This isn't the day or time to fukk with me'. Get over yourself, man. If you want to continually come on here and make these dumb a*ss claims then you're going to get blasted. If you don't like it then don't come here. 'Not the day to fukk with me'.....who the fukk do you think you are? You're just another dumb a(*ss fan like the rest of us.....get over yourself.

And go use one of your aliases now, like you really have us all fooled.

WNP, I look forward to Tuesday. I think the Dolphins are going to make an impressive run in FA.

Bobby,

I think most of the REALLY big deals are already done & Tuesday is just a formality as far as making official. Getting Wallace is already a done deal for some team.

The NFL is deluding themselves if they honestly believe that agents haven't been speaking with teams going back well before the combine.

The best WR in FA this year was Bowe. I said this months ago and the Chiefs agreed with me and gave him a big 11.5 million a year contract. The Steelers did not do the same for Wallace which tells you what they think about him.

Wallace wants to be the 3rd highest paid receiver based on what? He wants 13 to 15 million and that would be a major mistake if we do it. Drew Brees makes 15 milion a year and that is what Wallace wants?

I guess I am only one that wanted to Keep Reggie, well I hope you all are right about Miller, Cheers to 5-11 Great job Jeff

WNP..Thanks. I blame Parcells for all of it. He hired Sparano and was at the top of the food chain. Since no one here knows what player Parcells and Ireland were responsible for we can only judge Ireland on what he's done since he was in sole charge of the team. I was big on the Fireland bandwagon until last year.

I honestly wouldn't over pay for either WR. If you are going to sign Wallace you are looking at 12 mil and 9 mil for Jennings. That is the limit. I agree with have to have insurance for the TE position. I like Bennett at TE moreso than drafting another TE.

I hope that you will eat a bowl of wolverine blood mixed with brake fluid for lunch.

Harrison make sense

Posted by: Craig M | March 09, 2013 at 02:07 PM

Go give your pal Child Predator Alligator Mark a hug. The both of you deserve eachother.

If we are bringing in a TE with Fasano's mold I'd prefer Bennett. Better in pretty much very way and younger. Should give us the same skill set.

Most likely we get the home team discount from Fasano and he stays. The seam threat TE could come from the draft or free agency. Lots of options there this year.

Boldin released by the Ravens, to me he was the MVP of the Super Bowl

Agree with you Darkoak about Bennett, 6:6 260 pds. I think he will be a great fit for this team

ZA

bobbyd12,

Ravens told Boldin to take a cut or take a hike.

I like Boldin if we were a team already positioned to make a deep playoff run. Right now he could help us become a playoff team, but to expensive, because we're still one and done at best.
