MIke Wallace and the Dolphins have agreed to a five-year contract that will pay him between $60 and $65 million if he meets all its incentives.
The contract includes a substantial amount of guaranteed money. Although that figure is not yet known, it will be approximately $30 million.
Wallace will be the third-highest paid wide receiver in the NFL behind Calvin Johnson and Larry Fitzgerald, according to a person familiar with the deal.
The contract is not yet signed. Indeed, the Dolphins are privately denying that it is done. But Wallace is in South Florida and taking a physical and could sign the deal if he passes, as expected. He will sign the deal this evening.
The Dolphins have been making press conference plans but that will likely happen Wednesday.
Wallace is the deep-threat receiver the Dolphins have lacked since Jeff Ireland became the general manager. Frankly, the Dolphins haven't had a similar deep-threat weapon since Irving Fryar played for the team in the mid 1990s.
The Dolphins are not finished revamping their offense, and specifically their passing game.
The club is deep into negotiation for bringing former Tennessee tight end Jared Cook to the team. Cook is the seam-threat player the team wanted but could get from Michael Egnew and Charles Clay.
Cook, however, is also negotiating with the St. Louis Rams.
Interestingly, Rams free agent wide receiver Brandon Gibson remains an option in Miami, particularly if Cook does not sign. The Herald's Adam Beasley is reporting Gibson will visit the New York Jets.

Done Deal now!!!!

DB -dusty bottoms,
Wallace as I said last night... I'm Sorry. Also... Will THAT deal wipe away all the years of misery that Ireland and his click has put this fan base through?
Ireland will always be a POS and ANYONE, AND I MEAN ANYONE, even the guy who sells hot dogs down the block can make a call to Wallace and spend someone else's money to make one self look good.
Ireland s u cks and I want him fired no matter what.
In closing, I am satisfied as a life long fan that we got Wallace and I want more... I want a championship

Wooo, sign Cook and maybe one of the veteran CB's and I'll be HAPPY
Posted by: Joey | March 12, 2013 at 04:48 PM
Mando,
Credit Ireland & Ross for getting this deal done. They knew they had to break the bank to get the best WR in FA & they did.
Posted by: We Need Playmakers | March 12, 2013 at 04:48 PM
NY "G"--you're the SAME guy who was posting less than a day ago how all the 'good players' sign with 'someone else.'
So, no, you don't get the benefit of the doubt here.
Posted by: rjr | March 12, 2013 at 04:49 PM
nfl.com reporting devito is in KC for a vist, not signed like someone said in an earlier post.
please stick to who's signed, not who's visiting. I see nothing about S. Smith signing with Tampa either.

This move HAD to be made, and even if he doesn't produce the numbers that he posted in Pittsbuurgh, what he'll mean for Bess and Hartline is so important. Get a TE, Cornerback, and let's hit the draft boards!
Posted by: Shane Noles | March 12, 2013 at 04:49 PM
Hartline and bess just got OPEN

Dave,
Unfortunately Warfeild was before my time but the comparison to Mark Duper is fair.

Ireland deserves a 10 year extension

Posted by: rob | March 12, 2013 at 04:51 PM
We desperately need to shore up our secondary. Get another top tier WR, TE, replace Long if he leaves. Sign Reggie.
Posted by: NY "G" | March 12, 2013 at 04:51 PM
Must Haz Cooks
Safe-Tees
QBs
& then say buh-bye Long & trade up for Joeckl

No doubt. I couldn't agree more.
Bottom line--The guys scores TD's!!!

I want to be happy about this, but I just have this feeling in the pit of my stomach that this guy is going to take the money and stop playing hard.

To the ireland basher - ireland is the reason we are able to sign Wallace!! most other teams are struggling to stay under cap, thank to our GM we are in great shape with a solid foundation. Good job Ireland!!
Posted by: Nino | March 12, 2013 at 04:55 PM
rjr,
Let me make a correction to your post. I am the SAME GUY that has been posting here since this blog first opened and been a fan since the beginning.
I don't need YOUR benefit of anything.

NY "G",
Ireland brings us a SB and all will be forgiven, even with you. Admit it!

Posted by: Dennis | March 12, 2013 at 04:56 PM
'Free agent LT Jake Long will visit the Rams.
The Long-to-Rams buzz has picked up significantly on Tuesday, and he'll make St. Louis his first visit. Long is said to be seeking $11 million annually, but we don't see any team paying that. If the Rams are willing to offer $8 million per, Long would be wise to take it.'
Take the deal Jake.
Posted by: We Need Playmakers | March 12, 2013 at 04:56 PM
Long's taking physical in StLouis now per Sedano...........no deal yet

Nino,
Amazing that someone would actually bash Ireland TODAY. Not sure how you can knock a guy on the day he just got the best WR in FA.
Posted by: We Need Playmakers | March 12, 2013 at 04:59 PM
All I know if they are paying him over 15mil a yr tannehill wont have time 2 throw him cause he will be on his back the whole time!
Posted by: Jason Nuhfer | March 12, 2013 at 05:00 PM
Thats one need down. I wonder who will be the next signing....... a TE.... a CB..... a RT...... a DE?
Its a great signing.
Posted by: tpl | March 12, 2013 at 05:00 PM
What Happened To The Ireland Can't Find WR's?
Right now Ireland Is The WR GOD In Miami.
Seriously. Ireland Has NEVER Spent A High Draft Pick On WR's. And Has Managed To Get B.Marshall and M.Wallace. Name Any WR for The Fins In the Last 20 Years, Who is Better.
Keep Doing Good Work Ireland.

Tannehill trending on Twitter...Congratulations Ryan!
Posted by: Seth | March 12, 2013 at 05:02 PM
I think Jeff is setting up this draft for the OL, hopefully Warmack, and the rest on the DEF for the CB, SS, DE, and LB's!!
Posted by: BANE | March 12, 2013 at 05:03 PM
Umm. just because we got a WR does not mean that we are the AFC Champs. It's a start and a good one. Now it's up to the team to achieve the goal. If you LOVE Ireland more power to you all. I don't so that's that and if I choose to bash Ireland i will.
Must be that you have lost some memory of all the BAD that Ireland brought upon us and you want to wipe it all away with one grab? More power to you.
Posted by: NY "G" | March 12, 2013 at 05:03 PM
Guys, NY "G" has a right to bash Ireland if he wishes. Truth be told, how many of these FA's ever work out as "hoped for?" Not many (see Mario Williams in Buffalo or Mike Vick in Philly).
This is only the beginning, team needed talent, looks like we'll get some, now they need to work towards playing like an elite team. All most of us are doing is hoping and being optimistic. Human nature dictates that others will be pessimistic. The answer is yet to be known.

We need signings ASAP!!!
Posted by: Ireland Basher 4Evah! | March 12, 2013 at 05:05 PM
Tannehill must start to work on his below average deep ball, because Wallace stinks in short and intermediate routes
Posted by: boooooring | March 12, 2013 at 05:06 PM
The Rams & us are the finalists for Jared Cook.
Posted by: We Need Playmakers | March 12, 2013 at 05:06 PM
Should've just kept Da Beast.
Posted by: Monte | March 12, 2013 at 05:06 PM
Get Jared Cook now, then hope Warmack drops to 12th, we'll have a balanced offense.
Still would love a jumpball receiver or TE for the red zone.
So far so good
Posted by: Marios | March 12, 2013 at 05:06 PM
Per Sedano & "OK":
Cleveland has jumped into Cook market due to Chudzinski mancrush on him............troubling

Martellus Bennett is a Bear.
Posted by: We Need Playmakers | March 12, 2013 at 05:07 PM
ignorance.
U ireland haters are Straight ignorant.
Clowns Hate All You Want. Dashi is Riding With Ireland.
Posted by: Dashi | March 12, 2013 at 05:07 PM
If Ireland fails to land Cook before close-of-business, the Wallace Move specifically & FA generally is nothing more than a massive Debacle.
Posted by: Ireland Basher 4Evah!. | March 12, 2013 at 05:09 PM
They better sign Long AND Bush or the offence will be WORSE!
Posted by: Steve in Ottawa | March 12, 2013 at 05:09 PM
Just like Miami!
We've had a Number two TE in Fasano for years. A VERY GOOD.....No.2.......TE in Fasano. Yet Parcells/Ireland refused to team him up with a legit no. 1.
So now, we let a very good No. 2 get away, just when it looks like we're going to get a No. 1.
Same with the Bush situation! Ireland's **STUCK** on Thomas because of what he squandered in trading up for him(Puuuuuuuke!).
One Fvcking Step forward, two steps back.
It never changes!
Posted by: odinseye | March 12, 2013 at 05:09 PM
gotta grab a TE...now a priority!!!
Posted by: superPHIN | March 12, 2013 at 05:09 PM
I'm glad we have Wallace but lets be real. Wallace was overpaid but that's the price of doing business when you draft poorly. Sorry but 'G' has it right, any one of us could have made this decision. Lets see what else Ireland does before we anoint him.
Posted by: cocoajoe | March 12, 2013 at 05:10 PM
I'm excited, Wallace (perhaps) Cook and a winning Dolphins team! But...
Marshall is the better WR. Fact. Maybe he burns bridges quicker than Wallace but otherwise he's the more complete WR.
The Dolphins overpaid. I just hope it works. If the cap hit is loaded onto future years savings will need to be made off defense. I expect us to concentrate on that side of the ball in the draft...
Posted by: Pete | March 12, 2013 at 05:10 PM
Time to go watch Mike Wallace highlights on youtube.

WNP,
Agreed. Mr.Ross Is A Great Owner.
We Have A Group Here Who Are Extremely Desperate. And Don't Understand. Teams Aren't Built In A Day.
Great Day For Dashi so far. The Fins Sign Wallace, and DR Beat Italy in A Hell of A Game To Advance In The WBC.
Posted by: Dashi | March 12, 2013 at 05:10 PM
Martellus Bennett therefore lied to the media 'bout his love to play in Miami.
Shameful
