Ross: Tannehill-Moore as good at QB as anyone

PHOENIX -- The Dolphins are making a ton of moves in free agency and have more to make, accoriding to general manager Jeff Ireland who today opened the door on more signings, trades and then the draft as serious possibilities for upgrading the team in the coming months.

But, let's face it, the Dolphins are going to be only as good as their quarterback.

It's on Ryan Tannehill to improve dramatcially on a 12-TD, 12-interceptions season for the Dolphins to be a playoff team in 2013.

But count club owner Stephen Ross as very excited about Tannehill's prospects. Indeed, Ross spent part of his time on his private jet to these annual meetings watch Tannehill play at Texas A&M -- as a wide receiver.

"This guy's an athlete and he's a very bright guy," Ross said in a meeting with the South Florida media. "You put those skills together, that's what really excited me about it. He as a person and what he's capable of, you put it as a package and people recognize this guy is winner. And complementing him with Matt Moore, I think we have as good a one-two punch at the quarterback position as anybody. He's going to get there. I feel confident."

Ireland wasn't ready to be quite so effusive but he didn't want to contradict his owner.

"I'm not going to put expectations on a young quarterback," Ireland said. "It's a continued development."

So I asked Ross if he really believes Tannehill and Moore as as good a combo as, say Tom Brady and Ryan Mallett. Are they as good as Alex Smith and Matt Cassel? Russell Wilson and Matt Flynn?

"I didn't say that. I said the comination," Ross said. "I don't know what they have behind [Brady] but the combination of working together and knowing we have depth and two fine young men, I'm very excited about that. Is that wrong?

"I said he's developing," Ross continued. "[Tannehill] is not there. It's only his second year. I see him doing it. I'm not saying he's going to be Tom Brady or Peyton Manning next year but he's developing."

Whatever he meant, it is clear the Dolphins are excited about the prospects of having Ryan Tannehill and Matt Moore back for 2013."

Bobbyd12, Its nearly impossible to keep drugs out of kids hands. They become adults you know?

It will always be the same, smart kids will automatically bypass using drugs, and the greatly impessionable ones will always bend to peer pressure.

However, its great to be a part of that great illusion that youre actually making a difference. Society itself is a very fertile breeding ground for potential drug usage. This much will never change.

agree bobby

Mongoloid, let me explain it a different way since you don't seem to comprehend. Blow it out your ass douchebag. You understand that?? I don't need to be a slave to money. I wake up happy and LOVE my job. I don't moan and groan going to work everyday. That is more important to me then a huge check. Get it now, stupid??

Because I look a little younger for my age, plenty of times when I go out Im offered drugs or somepoint asked do I know where to get certain drugs.

I dabbled a bit when younger, but no longer now. Im to conclussion drugs will always be a huge part of our society. We can only hope those that fall into it soon wake up. Or only hope many will not.

Drug use can be penalized but never prevented.

UH NO HELL NO F*UCK NO. blidi wreh wilson is not the answer at corner. Watch ur f in mouth nfl network. Remind anyone of sean?????

Doesnt great short area quickness just mean runs slow?

Im out, its been fun, gn. Im done for tonight unless a new blog is posted.

Now that I'm done with the moron, I can move on. YG, I deal with Drugs, terrorists, illegals and all sorts of other things. The point is, I enjoy my job. I would rather wake up and be happy then miserable and rich. Money is secondary in my life. It is not my priority like it seems to be to others. This guy Manigold thinks money is the most important thing in life, I don't.

OK Dusty, then PLEASE explain why Pro Football Focus has Wheeler ranked as the No. 2 pass rushing OLB.

Pro Football Focus is reputable and used by many. They do the research.

Do you?

If yall need somebody who can get from the couch to the bathroom real fast, Blidi Wreh-Wilson got that "short area quickness"

Ireland, I guess video is dark, explaining his thoughts on the LBs

Because that doesn't support his side of the argument

You are exactly the type of brainwashed, molded mind our government hoped to turn out when they started dumbing down the education system years ago.

Our government will be very proud to know there are idiots like you out there to show them their tactics worked. You have served nothing but illusions.

Be proud, and be dumb. That is your choice.

Mongoloid, rather be proud and dumb then be YOU. Make sure your family throws all your money in your casket so you can spend it in the after life...oh wait...

Proverbs 11:28

He who trusts in his riches shall fall, but the righteous shall flourish like the green leaf.

Phillie Chirino 4:20

He who taketh the green leaf and twisteth, shall flourish and stay righteous!

Money's the root of all evil Bobby, F'k em!

Dusty bottoms, Albert turns 29 in Nov. Only missed 7 games in 5 years though according to Omar.

has missed 7 games, only one season he played every game. last year played 13 games, started 11. his back got bad last year, kc is concerned about it

I'm gonna do a complete 180 now on the OT situation since Long is no longer in the fold.

I really didn't have the warm and fuzzies about moving Martin to LT but now I think thats the best case scenario. There are still several good RT prospects in free agency.

If we do any trading picks away I would rather it be for someone who scores tds, picks off passes, or sacks qbs. I also think theres a good possibilty of landing a decent LT in the 2nd rd of the draft.

Our government will be very proud to know there are idiots like you out there to show them their tactics worked. You have served nothing but illusions.

Wait a minute...., Could Mongoloid be... Could he be???, A Quick question Mr.Mongoloid, Your thoughts on HARRP????

ALoco, goodnight troll boy. This is about the time you ruin the blog which means time for all sane people to leave.

We thank you deeply for your services. Without support from people like you we would not have been able to start a fake war, kill hundreds of thousands of innocent people, in order to overtake all the oil contracts for all the oil fields in Iraq. Well done.

We thank you so much for your support. You enabled us to test thousands of new and exiting drugs on unsuspecting foreign born citizens that we don't give a flying fk about. Well done.

but rick arent we gonna have to use a high pick anyways on a lt

What's the fuss about Long? If we can't have Long, we can easily have better. Use an extra pick to move up a few slots in the draft. Problem solved, and we're improved.

agree on long, so glad we didnt waste that money on him

Still no running back. Daniel Thomas is awful, still no brute force load for defenses to stop.

No running game.

miller gonna be a damn good rb

Not if we move Martin LT and sign Winston or Vollmer.

Signing Andre Smith is an option too but I think he's just like Long. A big mauler, not very athletic.

I get what your saying though dusty. Albert for 2nd rder vs drafting an OT in the 2nd rd.

Bobby don't be reeled in by the conspiracy wackos. Thank you for your service. Im a 9-11-01 first responder and as I recall we were attacked. The wars, whether right, wrong or indifferent were a result of that attack.

Once again, who in the hell cares what Ross thinks about a players future. Why does the media insist on asking the owner questions about developing football players ? Why don't you go and ask the hot dog vendor how much money is tied up in player bonuses next year? Wtf!

This trying to make the owner look like an idiot thing is old. Ask him how to invest wisely or some other business question, stop with the football questions

i sh.it my paints...

As Abraham said to John not to walk on the river..that thee done.

I am a super hero

I think our last few moves, trades or free agent signings could take some time now.

No need to rush now teams are running out of money. The few teams left with money can wait for the market to bottom out.

On a side note why in the world would any Dolphin fan expect NFLN to give us a fair shake. Haven't you noticed that ALMOST every person on the network has a connection to Bill Bilichick?

Combo, 1 2 punch, are u serious? he must have the QB's mixed up with the RB's. Its not like they will be sharing snaps in the game. He should have simply said we have a capable backup if Tanne struggles. Of course he has probably never had any football experience besides owning this team. Stay in ur office Mr. Ross, perceptions of the organization is already bad, no need to perpetuate it.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!! He just can't shut up.

Matt Cassell and ALEX sMITH ARE NOT A 1 -2 punch. Cassell was released a couple days ago. C'monnnnnn, Mando!!!!!

Well, a pick is better than no pick(although probabilities lie we won't get nowhere with that 5 and that 7).

People watching the Heat.

Don't worry, eventually Miami will wear them down.

Da Truth is a racist pig, disliking hispanics in South Florida, shame on you

i have an idea how about we trade back in the draft this year we go from 12 in the draft to about 25th in the draft we get there 25th pick in this years draft and next years number 1! then we trade down from the 25th in the draft to the 2nd round to about 36th overall and take there 1st round pick next year and 3rd round pick this year! then we trade down again from 36th overall to about 50th overall and give them our 36th pick plus our 43rd overall pick in the 2nd for there 1st round pick next year also! then we start drafting from there! so then we will start the draft at pick 50! then we will have the 50th overall plus the 52nd overall from the colts! so we will have 2 2nds 3 3rds and 1 4th 2 5th and 3 7ths! but the most important thing we will have 4 1st round picks next year! and who knows we could be drafting 1st 2nd 3rd and 32nd overall next year imagine that we win the superbowl this year but still have the 1st,2,3,and 32nd over all picks in the draft in 2014! imagine that guys!

I applaud Stephen Ross for saying what he believes. I mean is he supposed to say "I hope that our quarterbacks, or team can get it done?" Too many times we are walking on egg shells hoping to say the perceived correct thing. My belief is either you are all in or not.

I have to laugh at the comments here.

1. Don't feel sorry for Ross - He's worth $20 - 30 billion he always gets the last laugh.

2. He has always said he's a fan first so he who cares? He pays other people to manage the team. $40 million to him is nothing he could spend that every year for 25 years and get nothing in return and the Fins will be worth a Billion dollars more then.

3. For years you nimwads have been complaining about how cheap Ross is. Now the common sentiment is he's spending too much - what a bunch of ignorant hypocrites.

It is a good thing most of you live in Florida - your like palm trees and lean whichever way the wind is blowing - LMAO

People are killing me who dont know football. The concussions are killing the game cz ur best players really cant play. Football blows are delivered through the shoulders. Running through players not jst launching the body. When my backs lowert their heads I know they closed their eyes for a split second and maybe missed a whole. I have coached for 18 years, and 6 with running backs. where is vision leading with the head. Jim Brown said it he led with a shoulder, he did not show that split second of fear. lol And you fake zzz dolphin fans get of of our ship, and take those who jumped back on cz of FA wit yall.
