Travel day buffet of topics to discuss

PHOENIX -- Today is a travel day for me.

But I'm giving you plenty to chew on. If you check out my column from the NFL annual meeting, you'll see where the Dolphins stand and how they feel about a handful of intriguing players.

You'll see where Miami stands on Osi Umenyiora.

You'll see where Miami stands on Elvis Dumervil.

You'll see where Miami stands on John Abraham.

I believe it is a fairly complete roll call of the top pass rushers currently available in free agency and it shows the Dolphins want to upgrade the pressure on quarterbacks in 2013.

But there is more than one way to skin a ...  well ...  a quarterback. You'll also find out the name of a darkhorse candidate already on the roster -- other than Olivier Vernon -- the Dolphins think might become a good pass rusher based on what they saw in practice last year.

And you'll find out why such veterans as Umenyiora and others now consider the Dolphins as they wind down their careers when in the past they might not have.

You'll find out that defensive tackle remains a "want" for the Dolphins (Remember, they go by "musts," then "needs," then "wants" in the order of priority additions.)

By the way, the column doesn't mention Dwight Freeney as an option. That's not because he's not, but rather I simply forgot to ask about him. Why?

He's older than the veteran ends the Dolphins are more seriously considering. He also wasnt quite as productive last year. I suppose he should be on this list, but my gut tells me he's definitely not at the front of the line.

The column also does not discuss OT. The Dolphins have scheduled a visit with former Chiefs and former Texans right tackle Eric Winston today. First order of business is a physical for him and then he'll meet with OL coaches. He visited last year after being cut by the Texans and has multiple teams interested.

The Dolphins are looking for a tackle after losing Jake Long in free agency.

There's over 100 teams in North American professional sports and you could make a pretty strong argument that the Miami Heat is the very best one right now.

Defending champions. On a winning streak that nobody has exceeded in 41 years.

Spoelstra has earned the respect of players and coaches across the NBA. He has his team playing at an EXTREMELY high level and they are a tight-knit bunch that clearly enjoys the game and each other.

You're welcome to your opinion but it is one that sounds awfully dated and out of touch at this point. Spoelstra has nothing left to prove to anyone.

And the 'gay' stuff? C'mon, man. You are an adult, right?

Dashi, that's a startling statistic on the patriots draft classes over the last few years!!!!
are there any other of the 'top' teams that have similar stats?

That proves that despite having not great drafts they have managed to keep key players in core positions at the club to enable them to compete EVERY YEAR!

Shula Burned Out.

Anybody Can Burn Out. Belichek Is Reaching That Point. 15+ Years In One Place For Any Coach That Wears On You.

Pioli Couldn't Get A Qb!! Or A Coach!!

But Pioli Drafted Pretty Good. KC had 6 Pro Bowlers Last Year.

The Pats Have Been Below Average At Best The Last 5 Years. Remember He Has Used Over 60+ Picks In That Time. Look At The DB's He Has Drafted? Since Ty Law Left!! The Pats' Secondary Has Been Horrendous.

D.Butler Was Drafted Before S.Smith!! D.Butler Sucks!!

R.Dowling? He Was A First Round Pick!! What Has He Done?

And Many More.

If You Suck At Something You Suck at It!! Agreed They Got Lucky With Brady!! Brady Also Sold His Soul To The Devil!! The Only Reason That Explains His Career Even Existing!!

P.Riley Sucks At Drafting What Does He Do? He Trades His Picks Away!!

Pat Riley Got Burned Out!! He Retired!!

Parcells Got Burned Out!!

N.Saban Got Burned Out In Miami!! He Went Back To College!! And They Say He Is Burned Out At Alabama!! That He Wants To Leave!!

Isn't N.Saban Best Friends With The Great BB? And Had The Same Demeanor!!

If you have good caoching and all world QB'ing, you can be a real force with average drafts ... what holes you have , you can always find a vet on his last contract that will play for you for less to chase that elusive ring ...

Whats been the constant with all of the Pats success over the past decade:

TOM BRADY

When you have an elite qb, as a gm, all you need be is average at best in player acquisition. This is not ot classified info folks.

Yes, I Am An Adult.

Now Ask Yourself This!!

Is America Prepared For A Gay Professional Coach?

Gay Player? Maybe?

Gay Coach? Doubt It!!

And Why You Mad? If He Is Gay He Is Gay!! Just Admit It And Stop Beating Around the Bush like A F a g g o t. That Is All Dashi Is Saying!!

Winning Streak Nobody Exceeded In 5 Years!! Remember Ask Tracy!!

And Spo Still Has A lot Left To Prove!! Lebron Didn't Come To Miami To Win 1 Or 2 Titles!! Or 3 Or 4 .....

And Remember What Dashi Says, "Only 5 Coaches In NBA History Have Won 2 Or More Titles"

Spo Wins This Year!! And He Is A First Ballot HOFer!!

And Then He Will Have My Respect!! Ma Sisi Or Not!!

Pardon My French.

We are waiting to see what Green Bay does with Finley, if he stays then no TE will be picked in the 1st round and we can either trade up in the 2nd for Eiffert (the best TE w/o a doubt) or pick Ertz later in the same round.

Posted by: TigerSam | March 20, 2013 at 01:18 PM

What does Finley have to do with anything? He can't block GREAT either! WC offenses, especially Philbins from GB, the TE's are not asked to be great blockers!

Do you think Kellers blocking was no part of the Jets great rushing success from 2010 & 2011.

STOP OVERSTATING THE IMPORTANCE OF BLOCKING IN JOE PHILBINS SYSTEM!

Indy losing Manning taught us as long as you have a top flight elite qb and give some weapons around him, sprinkle a couple great defensive players here and there, and you can rule your division for a decade.

dashi,

With the Miami Heat, You ain't seen nothing yet baby. The 23 game win streak is just the prelude of things yet to come.

72-10 is coming down next year, baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why does everyone try to hide behind Joe Philbin's skirt when they want to be right? Everyones now an expert on:

JOE PHILBIN'S SYSTEM

Mike Sherman's the oc, so why cant it be Mike Sherman's system? Geesh, some of the stuff spewed here is highly laughable at best! LOL...

Big question now, with 11 draft picks do the Dolphins package a couple picks to get another pick in the first round?? Do they package a pick and move up from 12?? Or do they stay where they are or move down??

Can Craig M please return to the blog?

I teach at the all boys Catholic school in Bethesda, MD. I would like to invite him to visit with our student body to ridicule, lecture & belittle them.

Would help to keep them in line without the use of wooden paddles. His work here has been exemplary & I think he'd be great for us.

We have Barack Hussein Obama on standby but, Craig M is our 1st Choice. If anyone knows of a way to reach him, please let me know.

I'll be the first to admit:

I DONT KNOW JACKSHT ABOUT JOE PHILBIN'S SYSTEM

Anyone else want to let the TRUTH set you free? LOL...

Bobbyd12,

Only scenario I see, at least one making common sense, is trading down in the 1st rd to pick up an extra 2nd rd pick. Then use the then use a 2nd rd pick to trade back into the 1st rd.

There are many ways to do it, but, at least this is the best "COMMON SENSE" approach to doing it.

If Ireland hits a homerun on even 50% of 2013's picks. We had better win a sb title within 4yrs. Because if we dont, it will be a helluva lieu to try and resign all of them in 2017's free agency.

I had breakfast with Joe this morning.

BREAKING NEWS:

Tampon "Butterscotch" Johnson has been signed to play TE.

Geesh, some of the stuff spewed here is highly laughable at best! LOL...

Posted by: Yesterday's Gone 4Ever! | March 20, 2013 at 02:22 PM

Starting with yours! God you're a ninny! My dog is more of an expert than you!

Your hard on for Fasano is laughable at best!

Let's analyze:

Fasano is a blocker 1st & he was not resigned
Keller signed & isn't known for blocking.
They drafted Egnew knowing he didn't block in College.
On his previous team, Finley, is not known for Blocking.

After EVERYTHING you still can't see that everything CLEARLY points to Miami looking at TE's who can get open over blocking.

Consider yourself to be adjusted.

And.................. dashi has fallen asleep at the keyboard. Up all night.

Dolphins Draft
Rd 1 CB Rhodes
Rd 2 DE Carradine
Rd 2 CB Wreh-Wilson/Amerson
Rd 3 OG Warford/Winters
Rd 3 WR Swope/Bailey
Rd 4 RB Lattimore (looking ahead to 2014)
Rd 4 BPA
Rd 6 BPA
Rd 7 BPA
Rd 7 BPA

Sign Winston and veteran CB in free agency and I think we will be in good shape. I have been reading this blog for years (well since back in the Jason Cole days lol) and just thought I would share what I would like to see. Thanks for reading my post. Go Phins.

Posted by: Fed Up | March 20, 2013 at 02:39 PM

Wow! Seems you dont know me as well as I know your mother. Ive never been a Fasano fan. I assumed the fins would make him a priority only because he may have been thje best blocking TE on our roster.

Are your wooden teeth still soaking in the Efferdent? Youre not going to kill any termites like that son.

Try as you wish. Any info coming from coaches and gm's this time of year is nothings but smokescreen.

Its not pussie guys. Its a thumb up your ass.

YG,

Agreed.

72-10!! Next Year!!

But Dashi Wanted 72-10!! This Year!! And Last Year!! The Heat Have The Talent!! To Go 72-10!! Now They Might Finally Have The Coaching!!

I Think Spo Is Finally Understanding How Dominance In The Regular System Helps In The Post Season!! Teams Will Finally Be Defeated Come The Post Season!! Like The Bulls During The Jordan Days. The Playoffs Will Be A Cakewalk!!

I'm Expecting The Heat To Hit At Least 30!! Before I Consider This Streak A Success!!

Agreed. On Needing A Qb And A Coach!!

But You Need A Team To Win The Superbowl. A Defense Helps.

I SEE THE FILTHY AMIGO GANG IS HERE,YG,BE A MAN OF HONOR AND APOLOGIZE TO GRAIG FOR INSULTING HIM///////

LIFE IS SHORT.

Winning Streak Nobody Exceeded In 5 Years!! Remember Ask Tracy!!

--------------------------------------------------

Huh?

Dashi, the Heat surpassed Houston's win streak with that win over the Celtics on Monday.

So, yes, their current streak IS the longest in 41 years.

YG,

Up All Night?

For As Much As You Think Dashi Is Odin!! My Last Post Yesterday Was To DD.

Now The TRUTH Is Someone Has Been Going At It Again, With Different Posters Every Night. Since Last Thursday Or Friday? If I Can Recall.

How Do We Know He Is Not Here Yet? Because The Dashe This!! Dashe That!! Comments Haven't Started!!

Don't Worry Dashi Knows You Are Not A Part Of Oscar's 1 Man Coalition Against Odin(Sometimes). But You Are Responsible For Making The Old Fart Believe Dashi And Odin Are The Same!!

When I used to be in here all the time from 4/2008 until 1/2012 there was a guy in here who claimed he played bass with all these different bands.
What ever happened to that loser?
I think he must have been on disability because he spent so much time in here no way he was employed.

@2:56,

Seriously?

They Need To Pass 30+ Wins To Have The Longest Winning Streak In The Past 40 Years!!

Right Now!! And Until They Pass The Next Streak!! They Have Had The Longest Winning Streak In The Past 5 Years!!

The Heat Right Now Have The 2nd Longest Winning Streak In The Last 40 Years!!

You Need To Pass The Streak!! To Claim The Streak!! Else You Are #2 At Best!!

Ask The Pats'!!

Do They Have The Longest Winning Streak In The Past 40 Years Or The 2nd Longest Streak?

When Luis Castillo Had A Hit In 44 Straight Games!! Did He Have The Longest Hitting Streak In The Past 50 Years? Or Was He Still Second To DiMaggio?

THE HEAT HAVE THE SECOND LONGEST STREAK!!

Spoke To Soon.

The Troll Has Awoken From His Slumber.

YG,

Dashi Got Hell For Giving Sherman Credit Last Year. You Remember.

Sherm Is A Great Coach!! And An Excellent Offensive Mind. This Is Philbin's System But Sherman's Offense Is Very Similar. About 80% Similar. They Come From The Same Coaching Tree!! Sherman's!

Now Has Philbin Given Hints Into What The Team Will Look Like? Yes!!

Philbin Is More Honest Than Spo!! Both Of Them!!

To You Spo' Fans!!

Seriously!! Doesn't Spoelstra Give Some Of The Worst Interviews Ever!!

You Know Who I Would Love To See Coach The Heat? Coach Laranaga!! He Will Have The Heat Overachieving!!

DASI,PLEASE TELL US HOW JAKE LONG WONT SIGN WITH ST.LUIS/

NUGGETS OF ACORNS

Uh, yeah. That's exactly what I said. Absolutely no idea why you seem to think I said they had THE longest streak ever rather than the longest one in 41 years. Reading comprehension a little off today?

Either way, I happen to think the longest winning streak in a given sport since the NIXON ADMINISTRATION is pretty damn impressive. If you don't, well, good for you!

Isn't It A Little Early For You?

Have Fun.

Posted by: heat fan | March 20, 2013 at 01:55 PM

Doesn't the heat have a blog....?

You Don't Claim The Streak, Until You Pass The Streak.

Right Now The Heat Have The Longest Winning Streak In 5 Years.

They Need To Win 30+ To Have The Longest Win Streak In The Past 40 Years.

That You Are still trying To Discuss This. Proves That You Are Wrong.

Longest Streak Ever Goes To The Harlem Globetrotters!! Look It Up!!

Globetrotters Played 1 Season In The NBA And Didn't Lose A Game!! And They Only Had 6 Players.

But If You Want To Claim The Heat Have The "Longest Win Streak Since The Merger" That Is All You.

Yes, they do. People from Miami very often like them AND the Dolphins, believe it or not.

So, what do you have to offer today 'Automaker Mud?'

Well, I'll tell you what. How about you contact every single NBA analyst, announcer, color guy, writer, casual fan, janitor cleaning the locker room, guy selling hot dogs, etc. and tell ALL of them to stop calling their win streak the longest in 41 years.

Because that's exactly how they ALL describe it (accurately). Unless you're aware of some phantom team that has had a longer streak since 1972. The Waukegon Wombats, perhaps? The Anchorage Fighting Doughnts?

It's up to you, Dashi. Clearly, the math just doesn't add up and only you can correct it! Get those e-mails going!

For the record, I'm NOT a 'detractor.' Why would I think that?

I just think your premise here is a tad silly, that's all.

1. Lane Johnson LT (Ansah, whichever's available)
2. Desmond Trufant CB
2. Margus Hunt DE
3. Ryan Swope WR
3. Brandfon Williams DT
4. Terron Armstead OG (Had 4.7 40, 31 benches)
5. Robert Lester CB (Alabama)
5. Tyrann Matthieu (Nickel Corner)
7. Marcus Lattimore RB
7. Cameron Marshall RB (Goaline, short yardage)
7. Caleb Sturgis K (Gators)

This is only how I would do the 2013 draft as a gm.

This is only how I would do the 2013 draft as a gm.

Nice how some folks meander in here with such retardation that we have to now put up disclaimer that this isn't what the tweam WILL do but what the individual would do in the situation.

Dont sweat not addressing TE. A blocking TE can be addressed on the waiver wire.

YG/DB/FLIPE/LOL,PLEASE YTL US HOW YOU GO FRM INEMPLOYED TO GM?

Funny how my comment was in no way directed towards or about you buddy in any negative way...

True Colors much?

Posted by: ALoco | March 20, 2013 at 03:53 PM

ALOCO,

I WOULD ONLY WANT TO BE THE GM ON DRAFT DAY. THE REST IS TOO MUCH LIKE REAL WORK. I WOULD PASS ON THE REST. LOL...

Took a backseat to posting today until I saw this dimwit Aloco on the Craig bandwagon accusing me being YG. How can 2 people be so wrong?

Aloco, if you think I'm YG, you're about as smart as a pencil eraser. Before making baseless accusations, get a clue first.

Posted by: bidniss | March 20, 2013 at 03:57 PM

Then why the retardation comment in your post?

I know we've nebver had any issues, just thought you were trying to make it a first tiome for everything.

Sorry if I comprehended it wrongly.

DB,TELL US ABOUT TIME WHEN YU SAIDTHE PIZZA DELIVRY GUY WOULD BE THE MOST SOUGHT AFTER COACH AFTER THE GARAGE MACHANIC AND DROOPY DOG OWNER FIRED HIM.

BUIFFET OF KNOWLEDGE

LOL,

ALoco cant speak, because he's accused of being me too. LOL...

Who cares if a coach is gay? The media would LOVE to write about that and lets not act like gay athletes havent been around for decades. Gay characters are all over tv commercials and movies yet the country couldnt accept a gay coach? The only people who would be affected are idiots and hard core bible thumpers who dont even watch sports in the first place.Geez.

I have been wondering what took the Dolphins so long to bring in Winston. He can be had for $4-5 mill or under and he graded out fairly well at his position last year. He has Miami college ties. His brother works for the Dolphins in the scouting department. He has remained healthy. I am surprised he was cut by KC but it had to do with money not performance. I think KC drafts Joeckel and resigns Albert Long term or moves Joeckel to LT next year and finds a cheaper RT.

Grimes and Osi would be fine additions. I think Osi can be had at the right price. I like Grimes, but coming off an achilles, will he hold up? He is worth a chance, for the right price.

ALOCO,

THE PIZZA DELIVERY COACH WAS HIGHLY SOUGHT AFTER. HE DELIVERED PIZZA IN NYC, CAPITALIST CAPITAL OF THE WORLD.

DOESNT GET ANYMORE SOUGHT AFTER THAN THAT.

LOTS OF PIZZA DELIVERY COMPETITION IN NYC. THE PIZZA DELIVERY GUY NOW MANAGES DIGIORNO'S FROZEN PIZZA.

IN CASE YOU DONT KNOW, THATS THE FROZEN FOODS SECTION AT YOUR LOCAL GROCER.

Adam Beasley saying Fins are really interested In Grimes and hope he will make a decision in next coue days. Really really like this guy.

SAMMO, ARE YOU TRYING TO TELL US SOMETHING?

BUFFET OF COURIOSIIY

ALOCO,

BREAKING NEWS>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

DIGIORNO'S HAS DOWNSIZED. THE PIZZA DELIVERY COACH TRANSFERRED TO TRUCKING DIVISON.

HE NOW DOES WHAT HE DOES BEST. DELIVERS FROZEN PIZZA.

Sammo, totally agreed and good post.

It's a generational thing, even on a blog like this.

The older crowd--those above 45 or so--still tends to make a big deal about athletes or whoever being gay but survey after survey shows that those who are younger could care less by a huge margin. It just isn't the least bit important or controversial to that crowd.

We are all a product of the times we were brought up in, nothing more.

THATS VERY FUNNY YG..
THAT DESERVES A LOL.

Havent you heard? Grimes wont be coming to Miami.

Nasa did such a fine job rebuilding him, he's been stamped as classified, and is being ship to Afghanistan to become world's first robotic human drone.
