Travel day buffet of topics to discuss

PHOENIX -- Today is a travel day for me.

But I'm giving you plenty to chew on. If you check out my column from the NFL annual meeting, you'll see where the Dolphins stand and how they feel about a handful of intriguing players.

You'll see where Miami stands on Osi Umenyiora.

You'll see where Miami stands on Elvis Dumervil.

You'll see where Miami stands on John Abraham.

I believe it is a fairly complete roll call of the top pass rushers currently available in free agency and it shows the Dolphins want to upgrade the pressure on quarterbacks in 2013.

But there is more than one way to skin a ...  well ...  a quarterback. You'll also find out the name of a darkhorse candidate already on the roster -- other than Olivier Vernon -- the Dolphins think might become a good pass rusher based on what they saw in practice last year.

And you'll find out why such veterans as Umenyiora and others now consider the Dolphins as they wind down their careers when in the past they might not have.

You'll find out that defensive tackle remains a "want" for the Dolphins (Remember, they go by "musts," then "needs," then "wants" in the order of priority additions.)

By the way, the column doesn't mention Dwight Freeney as an option. That's not because he's not, but rather I simply forgot to ask about him. Why?

He's older than the veteran ends the Dolphins are more seriously considering. He also wasnt quite as productive last year. I suppose he should be on this list, but my gut tells me he's definitely not at the front of the line.

The column also does not discuss OT. The Dolphins have scheduled a visit with former Chiefs and former Texans right tackle Eric Winston today. First order of business is a physical for him and then he'll meet with OL coaches. He visited last year after being cut by the Texans and has multiple teams interested.

The Dolphins are looking for a tackle after losing Jake Long in free agency.

Im in that 40-something crowd and I am not homophobic. Its not like being gay is a transmittable virus. As long as a gay guy doesnt try and come on to me, I have zero problem with them.

But, its not like Im looking to hangout and pal around with them either. LOL...

I don't see a problem letting gay's play football or coaching for that matter. People with this mental illness should not be descreminated against. I think it's very unsanitary for a man to put his thing where anouther man poops and from time to time has the runs. However I would love to see a quaterback using the limp wrist technique to toss one down the field.

There must be a way to keep these Newspapers alive. Look what happened to the SS, they tried to charge for content on Internet now they are down under. There must be a way, there must be a way(just thinking to myself).

Heterosexual men should relax. Most gay guys are looking for, and to hang out with, other gay guys.

Usually, a supposed heterosexual guy would have to hit on a gay guy before there's a display of mutual interest. Its very rare a gay guy hits on a hetrosexual guy first.

Basically the foremost reason I dont hangout with gay guys is because I seriously doubt we have very many serious interest.

Hell, that same reason crosses over into why I wouldnt hangout with some heterosexual guys, when it boils down to it. LOL...

I knew a gay guy that played football in high school and he was 1st team all county. He was gay but sure didnt play like he was gay.

Nobody had a problem with how he played on the playing field.

Oscar,

What the internet has done to newspapers, is similar to what color did to black and white tv.

The real money for newpaper companies now is selling ad space on their websites.

Buying a newspaper right now, equates to watching a black and white rerun on your color tv. Only those without internet access, or lack of knowledge in operating a pc, still buy newspapers.

YG, I'm over 50 (ancient!).

I definitely DID grow up with those biases and stupid fears about gay people but eventually outgrew that stupid way of thinking. Many don't, though, and cling to their ignorance.

Obviously, having gay friends and relatives makes a big difference as well--and I do.

Man, at this point I can't even imagine choosng who I would/wouldn't hang out with based on something as stupid as their sexual preference. That's THEIR business. It means as much to me as what color tie they like or what kind of toothpaste they buy. Who the hell cares?

So I guess I'm definitely with the 'under 35' crowd with this one, and I'm damn glad for that. So many more important things to worry about in this world than that crap. I consider those that do to be sad and ignorant creatures. They are the ones with the REAL issues.

40- something? Yeah, maybe 20 years ago

Oscar, the Herald charges for content, too. Only the blogs like this are free.

Oscar,

Also, the tv rating for the once "BIG 3" tv networks have enormously dwindled with the takeover of cable tv.

Its very rare I watch the big 3(nbc/abc/cbc) unless its a major sporting event or may favorite sports teams.

YG--very true about neswpapers (the physical version).

I used to buy both the Herald and the SS every single day.

Today? The only physical paper I buy is the occassional Sunday NY Times because I like having a copy of the magazine and the crossword (not to mention the rest of the content is so much better than any other paper at this point)

But even that is only once or twice a month. This is an internet medium now.

Posted by: tjt | March 20, 2013 at 04:42 PM

Its a bug. I was getting those pay per views from the Herald until I reset my Internet Explorer.

Reset your Internet Explorer and you can ead them for free again.

This blog in particular crams your computers with so many cookies, that I think after a certain amount, the Herald's system is programmed to charge a pay for play.

Like I said, I rest my Internet Explorer and I no longer have that problem.

Ah! - Doctor, I don't know if I'm gay or not. - When you get sexually aroused do you think of women or men? - Well of men. - You're queeeeeer, pal.(My friend, Jose S. conducted that interview, not me).

YG4E

There's nothing wrong with someone being gay. I don't think people should advertise it. How many straight people roll around pronouncing there straightness. Some people don't want there to be gay's in the nfl because they don't want to explain it to there kids what there favorite football player does in his private life. It's all in perspective.

Like I said, I rest my Internet Explorer and I no longer have that problem.

===============================

Good to know. Thanks!

oscar,

If soeone doesnt know if their gay or not, they probably are. LOL...

yg......

NICE TOPIC.........

WHO'S GAY AND WHO'S NOT ¿?

MEN WHO OVE MEN ARE KIND OF GROSS TO ME ...

LOVE MEN

================================

Well, to each his own but I think I'd rather explain that to my kid than try to explain why their favorite 'straight' player just beat their wife or girlfriend to a bloody pulp.

Besides, in all seriousness I can't EVER recall having a conversation about athlete's private sex lives with my kids or anyone else's kids. Can you?

You're probably pretty gross to them, too, Aloco.

LAST NITE WAS A LESSON ON RESPECT AND NOT MAKING THINGS UP AS YOU GO....

ODIN WAS VERY FUNNY WITH BELIEVING HIS LIES AND DEBATING HIS MASTER..

Hell, probably as high as 90% of female basketball players are gay. Heterosexual women playing basketball is the abnorm, not the norm.

But you dont hear the gay community outcrying about this. LOL....

lol @ 4:59

(no offense aloco, but that was pretty funny)

BVI THINK THERE'S TWO PLAYERS ON THE TEAM WHO LIKES MEN .

Always the problem has been the Showers.

Xavier Rhodes would make a lot of sense for Miami...Get a o-lineman in round 2 since the draft is very deep at that position...Use the other pick in round 2 on a safety like Elam...Maybe a guard and another corner in round 3...
Posted by: #1 Dolphin Fan in Montreal | March 20, 2013 at 09:11 AM

EXACTLY THE WAY TO GO....ELAM WON;T BE THERE IN ROUND TO BUT MAYBE CYPIEN OR REID WILL...

NFL PLAYERS ,NOT FIT TO BE NICE LOOKING GAY .

I'll tell you one thing, even if it's a bit of a cliche.

Ask any good businessman or real-estate agent where to open a high-end business or buy property in nearly any big city and they'll steer you to the 'gay' neighborhoods right away.

Those people have got some serious MONEY. And they don't get it selling crack or robbing 7/11's, lol!

You guys just reminded me that a friend of my wife, her daughter is married to a gay guy. The shame of it is that its a sham marriage.

The reason that the marriage is a shame, because before marrying him, she knew he was gay, and the guy only wanted to marry a woman to hide his gayness from his parents.

His parents are very wealthy and he fears he would disinherited if his parents found out. So now he sees his gay men friends and she dates heterosexually.

True story guys.

- Hey, man, this guy was looking at my dikkk. - Don't worry about it, he's a faggg.

IF WE SIGN WINSTON THERE IS NO REASON TO MOVE UP IN DRAFT FOR JOHNSON. TAKE OT IN ROUND 2 WITH SECOND PICK. CB AND SAFTEY WITH FIRST 2 PICKS.

Pretty sure Marv Fleming and Keith Sims were openly gay players with the Dolphins and it was never an issue. Who cares??

YG, we had an employee in a very similar situation years ago.

Very bsad that people feel they have to live in the shadows like that. Thetimes they are a-changing, though.

Probably the real reason some supposedly hetrosexual guys have showering with gays, is they themselves might get exposed.

Can you imagine what happens when a supposedly straight guy, gets a woodie, while showering with an openly gay guy? That would be too damn funny. LOL...

xavier rhodes does not make sense with the 12th pick in the draft.that is draftint out of need not best player available he has no business being picked that high.

MOST OF OUR FAN BASE ARE GOING BOTH WAY,LIKE ODIN AND DASHI.

Abe Lincoln diddled around with a boyfriend when he was young. I still would have voted for him.

THE LOVE BOYS GANG ;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

ODIN
DASHI
BOBBYD13
KRIS CRAIG M

Good conversation, guys. I think I'm going to open a Bentley dealership in the gayest part of town, lol.

Seeya soon.

(and sign Winston, Jeffy I. Maximum flexibility in the draft is the target now)

I have a feeling Lane Johnson could fall into the 10-12th range. Chargers at #11 are the only real threat to take Johson ahead of us.

Trading up to #10 is a very cheap tradeup. Perhaps our compensatory 5th rd pick?

The Titans are mocked to take og Warmack at #10, good thing about that, Titans signed og Levitre in fa.

Lane could fall to us at #12, if the Chargers are looking to get Rivers more firepower(WR). They really missed Vincent Jackson last year and Patterson could end up being their #11 pick.

Aloco Character....

you and ALL your aliases are a effing joke.....have fun talking to yourself for the rest of the evening....

shoot....

bring out Oscar and the SMF....and Cuban menace....all the rest of the TARDS that live inside tour warped little head....

Remember dolfans,

Even if using the #12 pick, we still have more than enough firepower to get back into the 1st rd if a "must have" player is there.

I give this regime an A+ for the last 2 years draft and acquisitions.

Butt fumble or not this guy is a top tier Guard.
@AdamSchefter: Dolphins hosting visit today with Jets free-agent G Brandon Moore, he of Butt Fumble fame.

this team remains garbage

SOME BODY PUT HERE THE EXTRA PICKS DOLPINS GET FROM THEY LOST PLAYERS LAST YEAR? SO THERE ARE HOW MANY NOW INRST FROM THAT BEFORE THAT HAPPEN? ALSO WHAT RTHR TEAMS GO THEM OR WHO THEY ARE FROM THEY SHOULD TRADED ONE FOR A GOOD NI DEFESIVE END FROM 49ERS OR SEHAWKS TO PUT ON MIAMI?

bobbyd12 is a jackass

Bobbyd12,

This fo knows Brandon Moore can play, but what does his big butt pay"? This is what Ireland will be most interested in learning.

Also, at og Terron Armstead can probably be had 3rd-4th rd. Remember the highly athletic olineman with the 4.7 40 and 31 bemch press at the combine?

Can you imagine this cat being a pulling guard, with that 4.7 40 speed, on a sweep? Nasty!

He's faster than most the TE's in this draft.

Rather be a jackass then a DUMBASS like you Troll boy

YG, Ireland said he wasn't done upgrading this offensive line yet. There are still going to be some moves coming. I'm definitely excited to see what he is going to do in the Draft.

YG have you seen Incarcerated Bob's bracket? He has the Canes winning it all.

GAYDAR ALERT

Heterosexual men should relax. Most gay guys are looking for, and to hang out with, other gay guys.

YOU LIKE CHICKEN SO MUCH MAYBE YOU EAT ME?

Always the problem has been the Showers.

MAYBE YOU TAKE ALOCO TO NICE MOTEL INSTEAD OF SHOWERS.

PROBLEM SOLVED.

BUT I DONT BLAME YOU FOR NOT WANTING TO TAKE ALOCO OUT IN PUBLIC. HIS FLAME MUCH TO OBVIOUS.

I am not sold on xavier Rhodes. Just not ppl know more about him than me but the tape I've watched he seems soft.

Lot of good players in this year draft. Would love to have Grimes sign with us. Guy will have a chip on his shoulder and was just a Pro-Bowler a year ago. If we sign Winston and Grimes, would love to add a play maker like Tavon Austin at our #12 pick. If we don't add either player, LT takes priority over CB in my book.
