Update on TE Dustin Keller

The Dolphins "missed" on tight end Jared Cook on Tuesday, if you call not wanting to pay $7 million per year to a player who had exactly three receptions more than Anthony Fasano a miss. Alright, I understand the infatuation with Cook but that sure is a lot of money for speed and seam-threat potential.

The Dolphins thought they had Cook at one point the past three days, I'm told. Then the Rams put on the full-court press, which is defined as money, money, money.

Fine, the Dolphins are moving on.

Today, Dustin Keller is visiting with the team, as I reported this morning. Well, more specifically the club plans to give Keller its own kind of full-court press. There will be meetings with coaches, dining with club personnel, and the physical.

The physical, which I'm told was taking place this afternoon, is key. Keller missed a lot of games last year with hamstring and ankle injuries. He had, however, played 64 consecutive games prior to that.

So the thinking here is if Keller is healthy and his physical checks out, then the Dolphins and his agent will be able to begin discussing contract terms.

The Dolphins are also expecting a visit today from wide receiver Brandon Gibson, late of the Rams. Gibson visited the Jets Wednesday morning but left town without a contract. He was flying to South Florida to visit Miami next, according to various New York media reports.

[Update: The New York Daily News is reporting Gibson is staying overnight. I'm reporting that barring a deal, he will fly to South Florida Thursday. He is also scheduled to visit Tennesee.]

Keller, by the way, has shown an ability to be quarterback friendly -- that is, he finds a way to be in place to get his quarterback out of a tough situation. No, he's not running a 4.49 in the 40 like Cook or maybe Vernon Davis. No, he's not going to block out the sun.

But he's efficient. He's been solid. He's played in big games, including two AFC Championship games. He would help Miami's cause if the Dolphins pull the trigger.

What will it cost?

A lot less than $7 million per season. Maybe half that.

well u will be john, scene that guy many times. makes big play after play. freeney still out there, would love osi for third downs

bet amendola catches 100 balls

"NFL Network's Jeff Darlington reported on Total Access Wednesday that the Dolphins still haven't ruled out re-signing free agent Jake Long.

Tweeted Long less than an hour ago, "Got the tour of STL today and was pleasantly surprised. Not selling our house in MIA though!" Reported Darlington, "I'm told that the Dolphins still do really like Long. They do still want him back." If the Rams were going to bowl Long over with a contract, we suspect it would have happened by now. Long's decision is clearly down to St. Louis and Miami."

Great. I knew Ireland would f#ck up & wind up keeping Long. Well...At least it's not my money. All I know is that we better make sure we have a good backup Tackle when Long gets hurt.

A loco,

Don't Run From The Question. 20-25 Years!! You Said So Yourself!!

NOW EXPLAIN B'TCH!!

Dashi has already Answered All Your Personal Questions About Dashi!!

YET!! YOU DON"T HAVE THE TESTICULAR FORTITUDE TO ANSWER MY QUESTION!!

Stop Running And Hiding From The Truth!!

IF WELKER CATCHES ALL THESE BALLS FROM BRADY,AMENDOLA,WILL TOO ...........

agree playmaker should not bring long back

NE snookered Brady. He took less money and they turn around and let his favorite target walk.

The Pats reign is over anyway. That AFC championship game was their last hurrah for awhile.

Vernon taking a step forward is huge. Besides Ryan Tannehill, to me Vernon might be the biggest key to dolphin success this year. Obviously the QB position is the most important but secondly is the ability to get to the QB. With Wake on one side and Vernon taking it to the next level (10 sacks) the fins will be a contender. Of course assuming Tannehill steps up as he will have no more excuses this year. He is going to have the weapons.

We Need Playmakers @ 7:18 Ireland is going to be getting long at his price. The contract will likely be back loaded with not a lot of guaranteed money in case of injury. Lets at least see the deal if it happens before calling it a bad deal.

You would think Amendola would cost close to what Denver paid Welker.

We talk about players giving teams home team discounts but what about teams giving fans and players a solid and overpaying a tad for stars and faves.

Not that I'm gonna shed any tears for a Pats fan it just seems like Belichick might have been stubborn on this one.

FKING HILLARIOUS! SOME OF YOU HERE, IF BELLICHIK SERVED SHT ON RYE YOU WOULD CALL IT PRIME BEEF SANDWICH.

THERE'S A NEW SICKNESS HERE CALLED BELLI-PHOBIA! ROTFLMAO.......................

Long signed, done deal with Rams. We need a LT. Martin is not it.

Dusty, he may catch 100, if gronkowski doesn't return to form. I'll betcha his YAC won't be nearly that of Welker, mainly cause Welker is/was Welker. Unique, in the way Steve Largent was.
That said, I can only hope I'm correct. As was said much earlier Brady makes journeymen stars.

DB,

Last I checked, Amendola is still a FA, and being reported he possibly will go back to the Rams. Do you have other news on Amendola?

DASHI,

CAN'T YOU BE A CIVIL PERSON?

YOU R POSTING IN A VERY FILTHY WAY .YOU GOT TO HAVE SOME RESPECT TO ALL OF US .

didn't mean Amemdola is a journeyman. Just a general statement.
Sorry.

man what is so great bout brandon gibson draft a wr in one of the 1st 2 rounds. The class is deep this yr.What i want 2 know is when were gonna start looking at tackle options?M.Wallace isnt gonna matter if Tannehill dont have time 2 throw!

Amendola to the pats on a 5 yr deal. That didn't take long!

Avril to Seattle.

If it wasn't for needing a corner I could live with drafting one of the big LT's in the first.

Seriously Clown,

You Expect To Piss Anybody Off With Your Schoolyard Tactics?

Why You Mad?

Does Dashi Care About Your Life? Why Do You care About Dashi's Life?

You Are The Same Clown, Dashi Was Talking To GM SOD About.

Thanks rick 7:08 good point think that was covered yesterday mustve spaced it.

I hope that Long comes back at the right price of course. If they resign Long to a contract worth 7 million a year then it will be a worthwile gamble. I think Ireland should be commended for not rushing to sign this guy and letting him test the market. Now Long and the fins know what he is really worth.

WNPM- I do agree that we need to start grooming a young tackle in case Long gets hurt. We also probably need a vetern behind him that can hold the fort if he gets hurt.

FLIPPER, WHEN DID YOU START DRUNKING TODAY?

...YG..Exactly..If Bess goes to New Enlgand..( who says he would) So what! Folks act like everything he touches turn to gold. Bess isn't going to be Wes Welker 2.0. Im sure if it happened. The last thing we will be worring about is how to stop Davone Bess. If we can upgrade the spot...You upgrade. It is fairly simple.

Avril is visiting Seattle, he didn't sign

The only way u dont bring Jake back is if ur planning to move up in the 1st to get Joeckle, Fisher, or Johnson. If not, u have to resign Long to protect Tanny. A healthy (big if) Jake Long is a better LT than J.Martin any day of the week, and TWICE ON SUNDAYS! Then it lets u sign CB Cason, drop Patterson or Marshall and use those picks to trade up and get Millner. Millner, Cason, marshall/Patterson.......looks good to me!

Course Dashi has a blog i mean job he in here workin it daily. Haha Lot more fun in here when theres hope for our squad.

Dashi Respects Everyone!!

Just Don't Disrespect Dashi!!

I've Had Great Conversation With Everyone Today!!

Then You Come And Throw Some Jabs!! And Don't Expect Dashi To Smack You Down You Little B'tch!!

Dashi Is A Man Of Integrity!! Even You Know That!!

Now Have Some Integrity And Answer My Question!!

You Donkey ;)

I've watched Keller a ton because I always root for the Jets to lose. I would love this signing, Keller can't block but makes a ton of plays and has great hands. He would be a bargain for what the Phins would pay.

DD,

MANY HERE WOULD FEAR THAT IF CHRIS CLEMONS WERE CUT TO DAY AND SIGNED BY BELLICHIK HE WOULD TURN INTO RONNIE LOTT.

THE BELLI-PHOBIA HERE IS FKING UNBELIEVABLE!

DASHI,

PLEASE ,SHOW SOME INTEGRITY .FOR THE SAKE OF YOUR NICE FAMILY..

*UPDATE* IBN strikes again as the Pats make it official and tag the former Rams WR as replacement for Wes Welker , good move if Danny can stay healthy. - See more at: http://ibnsportswrap.com/article.php?

F#CK BELLICHIK! We're coming to sew the sleeves back on your sweater, byyyaaaaachhhh

Anyone know what Fasano was making here, and what he signed for?
If we can sign Keller for Fasano's salary, or a bit more wouldn't it be an improvement at basically no cost?

PFT says Avril to Seattle done deal

FK THE LAKERS, THIS IS A MIAMI BLOG!

See IMAWRITER. You gotta lose the Laker thing though. The Heat is on!!!

THE FILTHY BOBBYD12 IS HERE....

DASHI MY HAVE A NICE EXCHANGE WITH HIM ........

THE
FILTHY
AMIGOS.........

If we sign Kellar, we will have to draft a TE that can block. Ideally I would like them to trade down (not easy) to 22-25 and draft Tyler Eifert. Pick up a #2 and the picks in the second round would be as follows:
2a. Blidi Wreh-Wilson,cb 2b. Barret Jones G. 2c. Ryan Swope WR. Pick a youn OT in the 3rd or 4th round to groom behind Long.

Rest of FA: Resign Long (or sign Winston) and sign a veteran corner (maybe Sean Smith).

The fry cook has announced my presence, I feel like the Pope!! Thank you thank you

No question Long better than Martin. I doubt anyone really thinks otherwise. J mart gotta hit the weights. Hes capable though. What i really wanna know is will we be able to put Brady on his assor at least force errant throws. And yeah Belli-phobia is some real shit had that for a long long time. I can def admit that. Feel like im gettin over it tho.

So Amendola gets slightly more money than Hartline, and his career stats are not even comparable to Hartlines. Let's see who on the NFL front blasts the Patriots for overpaying!

A loco,

Look Up The Word Integrity!! Since You Don't Know The Definition!!

You Don't Show People Integrity!! You Show People You Have Integrity!!

For Instance Whenever Someone Calls Out Dashi For Using An Alias!! Dashi Shows Integrity!! By Admitting It Is Him!! When Dashi Is Wrong On Something!! Dashi Shows Integrity By Admitting He Was Wrong!!

Now You Show Integrity!! And Say Who You Really Are!! And If You Have Been Working At The Herald For The Past 20-25 Years!!

Remember Integrity Means Telling The Truth!! Even When You Are Wrong!!

Dashi Might Be Right "About" 95% Of The Time!!

But

The Integrity Of My Words Are Right 100% Of The Time!! Dashi Owns Up To Everything I Say!! Even The Bad!!

So Suck Or Swallow!! Your Integrity!!

Just Stop Harassing The Dashi With Your Nonsense!!

IMAWRITER NEEDS TO GO ROOT FOR THE RAIDERS IF HE'S A LAKER FAN. THAT KID'S ENTIRELY IN THE WRONG FOOTBALL BLOG. HE'S AN ENTIRE OCEAN AWAY.

HOW DARE YOU CALL ALOCO A FRY COOK. HE'S A DISHWASHER SUPERINTENDANT!

We need a TE, OT & 2 CB's. I still think they can land 2 more guys in FA with the money left(about $10mil) & find the other 2 starters in the draft. The rest of the draft should be to find some athletic guards, pass rusher, back up RB & another WR.

If they could get Starks done long term it would free up about $5 mil. If they could sign a CB, they can cut marhshall or patterson and save another $4-5 mil.

As of now I think Miami has about another $10 mil in space to spend this year. Thats after reserving $10 mil on hand for rookies, emergencies etc.

Keller, Gibson & a Cb would be great adds to get heading into the draft basically allowing Miami to draft BPA.

Amendola has played one full season in 4 years. Missed 20 games last two years. Think Pats made HUGE error here. Kids not Welker, nor is he Hartline.

You Seriously Can't Be Trolling Yourself.

The King Of Calling People Donkey's Is Mad When Someone Calls Him A Donkey!!

Again!! You Are Showing Your Lack Of Integrity!!

Or What People Call Being A Man!!

You Are Acting Like A Little Punk!! Start Acting Like A Man!!

amendola will be tough to cover for sure 5 year deal

This Offseason Keeps Getting Better!!

The Pats Keep Getting Worst!! And The Fins Keep Getting Better!!

Hate To Say It!! But Belichek Is Past His Prime!! He's Burning Out!! And I Love It!!

WHOA. Just saw myself getting blown up.
I lived in LA 18 years. There WAS no Miami Heat. I live in TN (no wisecracks, please)
I went to UM games (prolly some Fons games as well) before most of you were even born.
This NOT a MIAMI blog, it's a DOLPHINS blog. I'll wager half the folks here are from out of state, but never gave up on our Dolphins.
So take that hate outta here, cause I hate no one here, and respect all opinions.
Well, almost all.

If we can't resign Long or Eric Winston, our first round pick will be OT, OG at #12. We may have to package some picks and move up to land one of the big 3 OT. If not, how about Jonathan Cooper at #12. Most athletic interior lineman and more mobile than Chance Warmack, then move John Jerry to RT, where he has shown he can play effectively when Jake Long got hurt 2 seasons ago.

Meant FINS

..What I like about Keller is the dimension he brings to the offense. Assuming he is healthy, and can do the things he did in New York. He gives us more versitlity. Meaning we can line him up wide, use motion a but more affectivley. There was a reason that we did not use Fasano out wide more..Not his game. I like the idea that the team is trying to add more speed. He may not be a burner, but he is much quicker then Fasano. Espeially off the line of scrimmage, and into his routes. If Snachez and the prop planes used him effectivley. I would imagine there is no reason Tannehill can't get him the ball.

With the addition of Wallace, and Hartline. Plus perhaps another quicker slot guy. It should give us an opportunity to work the intermediete, and short zones with a tight end who can win against linebackers, and safties...Keller may not be the all around tight end Fasano is. But for our offense. We need a guy who can win these one on one battles. Keller may not be perfect. But he is an upgrade in the passing game.

Been out of town on a business for a couple of days. To YG/LOL (Mr. 'I'm done with you', but in reality he isn't), you'd actually have to have a JOB, to be out of town on business. Thanks for your obsession with me fellas. While you were on here flapping gums, I was putting some big deals together. Yeah, LOL....that means MORE watches....DEAL WITH IT!....dipshyte!

First let me tip my hat to Dashi and give him my congratulations. You called it man! I laughed at you. I belittled you. I said it would NEVER happen.....and it did. Dansby and Burnett gone and Ellerbe and Wheeler in. Congratulations on being right....you got your wish.

Here's my gut reaction....

I think Ireland it getting it all wrong this offseason. I'm all in on Wallace. Right move for this team, regardless of how things shake out. I liked the Hartline, Moore and even the Starks move. I'm EVEN Ok with Clemmons, even though I'm not a fan. So Ireland's added some talent. But to me there are still some big holes on the team. TE, OT, CB and WR. Maybe you could add RB to that too. We're still not good enough and I fear Ireland is blowing this offseason. I'd argue that we're younger at LBer but are we better? I'm not sure I love Ellerbe, cause I just haven't seen enough from him. I'm not saying he's not a good player. It's just a lot of money to give a guy who hasn't done it for very long.

And we still don't have our TE. I would have loved to have seen Cook on this team but so be it. Bennett would have been good also. Not really a big fan of Keller. To me you're getting a guy like Miller in Pitt, and to me he's only a touch above average.

I haven't read most of what's been posted here the last couple of days and I expect I'll be in the minority. I just feel that Jeff Ireland's blowing a really good chance to make this roster better and ultimately is signing his own death warrant.
