Update on TE Dustin Keller

The Dolphins "missed" on tight end Jared Cook on Tuesday, if you call not wanting to pay $7 million per year to a player who had exactly three receptions more than Anthony Fasano a miss. Alright, I understand the infatuation with Cook but that sure is a lot of money for speed and seam-threat potential.

The Dolphins thought they had Cook at one point the past three days, I'm told. Then the Rams put on the full-court press, which is defined as money, money, money.

Fine, the Dolphins are moving on.

Today, Dustin Keller is visiting with the team, as I reported this morning. Well, more specifically the club plans to give Keller its own kind of full-court press. There will be meetings with coaches, dining with club personnel, and the physical.

The physical, which I'm told was taking place this afternoon, is key. Keller missed a lot of games last year with hamstring and ankle injuries. He had, however, played 64 consecutive games prior to that.

So the thinking here is if Keller is healthy and his physical checks out, then the Dolphins and his agent will be able to begin discussing contract terms.

The Dolphins are also expecting a visit today from wide receiver Brandon Gibson, late of the Rams. Gibson visited the Jets Wednesday morning but left town without a contract. He was flying to South Florida to visit Miami next, according to various New York media reports.

[Update: The New York Daily News is reporting Gibson is staying overnight. I'm reporting that barring a deal, he will fly to South Florida Thursday. He is also scheduled to visit Tennesee.]

Keller, by the way, has shown an ability to be quarterback friendly -- that is, he finds a way to be in place to get his quarterback out of a tough situation. No, he's not running a 4.49 in the 40 like Cook or maybe Vernon Davis. No, he's not going to block out the sun.

But he's efficient. He's been solid. He's played in big games, including two AFC Championship games. He would help Miami's cause if the Dolphins pull the trigger.

What will it cost?

A lot less than $7 million per season. Maybe half that.

OL first round.

Craig M, well releasing Dansby and Burnett saved us about 7 million in cap space. That's roughly the cap hit on the two new guys this year. The cap hit on Dansby would have been 14 million next year, so we all know he was gone. Ireland and Aponte have done a nice job with these contracts, limiting the guaranteed money and cap hits. Neither guy will see year 5 of their contracts. I think we need to give them credit.you said it yourself, younger, quicker more QB pressure. I think this is a good thing considering neither Dansby or Burnett rarely made those "big plays". . We shall see

You can have an opinion. But when your opinion is so utterly stupid, you have to expect people will laugh at you.

Do like others, inform yourself before expressing an opinion of sheer ignorance.

Weird stuff......

Have a good one fellas.

Guys all I know is that Warmack is a beast. That whole line just pummeled people. I would love to have one of those guys and Warmack is the best. I remember him taking the Notre Dame Linemen 5 yards of the line off scrimmage. It was a man among boys. Here is what McShay said about Warmack going to the Titans:

"Alabama guard Chance Warmack is athletic enough, and he played in a heavy zone-blocking scheme at Alabama. He absolutely fits the bill and would be a great pick for the Titans."

CRAIGAHHREA? I ABSOLUTELY LUV IT!

ROTFLMAO, IT FITS! LOL....

I say we draft Patterson or trade back and take Austin, then we take the best corner and lineman

Regarding Cyprien, most People forget that this Safety class in the Draft is the best in 10-15 years with Players from Top of the Line Schools, Elam, Vaccaro, etc. Cyprien who?

orlando long DIDNT sign with rams and left without contract not good for us, do not need him back unless really cheap

Wrong dusty. Try doing one minute of research.

craig u can be suspect on new lbs we got cause they havent done much, but u better not be mad about cutting 2 way overpaid older lbs who didnt do jack here and couldnt cover u

Bobby excellent post at 8:27.

Thanks dusty. Taka was making me think i lost my mind.

who is gonna sign vollmer, hope he leaves pats

When Jeff Fisher and Floyd Reese were heading things up here with the Titans, they were VERY stingy when it came to O-line, and actually had studs like mothers and Munchak signed cheap in the old days. The last 6-7 years, they drafted them in the latter rounds, i believe..
I can't imagine Fisher paying Long 10 million, or even 8 per year, unless it's for 2 years.

I wouldn't pay 5 mil for Long. Did he even pass the physical? It makes you wonder. What's up next for Jake during this "emotional" time?

Guys bleacher report had it up and then took it down:

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1562486-jake-long-and-st-louis-rams-reportedly-agree-on-contract

could u imagine fisher paying cook 7 mill?

exactly taka so shut up and go eat some crow

Neither Austin nor Patterson are NFL ready, dusty. From signs I'm seeing, we mean to win the Division, THIS YEAR.

A bunch of people took it down Taka. No deal yet. Although it may still happen. Either they didn't like his physical or he didn't like their offer. I'm thinking probably both.

most rookie wrs arent ready. cant draft for one year

HERE YOU GO GUYS, OMAR REPORTED IT HOURS AGO. ROTFLMAO!

SINCE THEN THAT HAS BEEN DISPROVEN, LOL...

The Dolphins had money to spend on linebackers, but not for the guy they spent the first pick in the 2008 Draft on.
Now, Jake Long has a new home, as Omar Kelly of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports Long has agreed to a contract with the Rams.

AS OMAR KELLY REPORTED. WHAT A DOCUHE, NO WONDER THE REPORT IS ERRONEOUS. THE SS NEEDS TO CAN PIMP OMAR RIGHT AWAY! ROTFLMAO!

Aloco some friendly advice. Lose the integrity shtick because it makes you look hypocritical.

Almost every post you write you call our coach names
or you call the GM names. You've also attacked players and have made fun of the way they look. Remember your Henne neck fat phase?

So for you to sit on your high horse accusing people of lacking integrity is pretty bad considering your very recent past in here.

dadsmith,

IBN reported that Long passed a physical with the Dolphins last week.

If Long left the Rams without a contract he either didn't pass their physical or wasn't offered what he thought he was worth. Prediction: Long will sign with the Dolphins tomorrow for a "lot less" then he thought he was worth.

If Long signed for more than 7 million a year then I wish him the best and good luck to the Rams. We better sign Winston and draft Warmack. Right now I would put a primium on RT more than TE. If we do not upgrade the right side of the line all of these signings will mean nothing. Tannehill and Moore will both be knocked out by game #8 and the season will go up in smoke.

OMG! OMAR KELLY, SUN SENTINEL RELEASED THE ERRONEOUS REPORT JAKE LONG HAS SIGNED WITH THE RAMS.

ROTFLMAO..........................

OMAR, YOU IDIOT! LOL.................................

dusty I came back to redeem myself. you wouldn't have. The post was there, there is nothing else we have to go on.

Amazing. We are one of a handful of Teams that have some semblance of continuity going into the Season. I agree, spend all that $ wisely and let's go make our Move.

Folks,

If the Rams still have not signed Long, this tells you their are still concerns about his health. Big red flag. Long is not yet ready for prime time.

I'm sure Star L. did from Utah State did as well until he he got checked by the right doctors. Why the cold feet from the Rams? MAJOR red flag. BTW..Who is IBN?

I have no horse in this race, just a personal observation here. Craigarhea really isn't that funny. All the Lol's and exclamations in the world will not help make that funny. It's almost as bad as Craig M is for moron. The reason being the joke was told wrong. It is or should have been "the M in craigs sign in stands for moron". Still not that funny but it makes sense at least. Just my opinion on something non football related, needed a break. ;-/

I hope some one important with the Herald is reading YG4er, such filth and completely inappropriate for a football blog. R u grown man? U must be a teenager that gets bullied and u come here to trash people to release anger. I'm sure ur giong to talk about my mom to but it will be in vain because I won't be reading your nasty posts anymore. I hope u get banned from this blog so others don't have to put up with ur mouth.

lol..Orlando still doesn't get it. See what you caused Taka. LMAO

I just saw that on Yahoo News that Omar Kelley reported that Long signed. Is that right?

Posted by: Taka | March 13, 2013 at 08:49 PM

Taka that blundering idiot Omar Kelly falsely released that report. Jake Long hasnt signed doodley squat. LOL...

Dolfan Rick,

I am not glued to the computer like some of you guys. I am going on and off so sorry if I missed something Rick.

Good to hear that Long is still in play.

MY OPINION CRAIGAHHREA DOES SOUND FUNNY. CRAIGM LEFT THE STUPID CRAP WAS OVER THEN YOU BROUGHT THE SUBJECT BACK UP AND TELL US TO MOVE ON.

HEY STUPID, EVERYONE HAD MOVED ON UNTIL YOU MADE THIS POST. HOPE YOU FEEL REALLY STUPID RIGHT NOW. LOL...

I'm sure Star L. did from Utah State did as well until he he got checked by the right doctors. Why the cold feet from the Rams? MAJOR red flag. BTW..Who is IBN?

Who are you kidding? You are an honorary member of the circle jerk club. You've been going down and swallowing on your buddies for some time now,

craig,
Baltimore drafted Ellerbe to replace Ray Lewis. They thought he could feel those shoes and he really looked good in the playoffs this yr. I don't no much on Wheeler but he has to be better than Burnett. He really has lost a step or two with his age.

OMAR KELLY SHOULD NEVER BE ABLE TO RELEASE ANY BREAKING NEWS AGAIN WITHOUT FIRST HAVING TO GET ADULT SUPERVISION. LOL...

Yesterday, yes now I see that link I posted links back to Omar. The Florida reporters are either last on everything or wrong.

It will happen to many Players as it did with Gonzo. They didn't get what they wanted so they return to their Teams. Probably will happen with Long and SS. Now, don't tell you don't want them back. Ask Ireland's opinion if he does or not.

HI PHINS78. ROTFLMAO...........................

Gibson is Bigger Faster Than Bess And Can Play The Slot Too, He Will Score Some Touchdowns For Us In The Red Zone , Dolphins Will be Scary Next Year If They Land Gibson , Bess Will Be As Good As Gone , Maybe Traded For A Late Round Pick, Make It Happen Ireland

Wasn't laughing at you Orlando. Long hasn't signed with the Rams yet. You were misinformed by Taka and we all were trying to convince him the story was false and I guess you didn't notice.

I just found the whole thing funny for a sec.

PHINS78,

IS 78 YOUR IQ OR HAT SIZE? LOL...

Tired of the "Lets draft an O-lineman with our first pick" posts. Is it a good year for tackles, guards, and interior d-linemen? Yes. Do these positions translate into points and playoff wins these days? No. Load up on more receivers, preferably those with freakish athletic potential (Patterson, Austin), or go with the elite potential of Dion Jordan or Ansah. Or find a guy with an uncanny nose for the football (Jarvis Jones). Touchdowns, sacks, pick sixes.

OK its cool Dolfan Rick. It is pretty funny. Taka was ridiculing me for no knowing that Long had signed and I just missed all the posts that corrected him.

I will pay more attention next time.

whats up orlando dolphan? Playing the waiting game again arent we? Ready for some news on Keller if only so these guys have some FOOTBALL to talk about.

Yg wtf? Youre attacking me? What did I do to you? And you're accusing me of trolling when we just solved all of this after you spent the better part of two months mad at me FOR SAYING YOU MIGHT BE ALOCO?! How many f%$&ing times do I have to tell you I don't have time for these games? You know what, this is insane I'm out. Smh

I am firmly convinced, that only the Fewest knew about Brandon Gibson before the Dolphins made a push for him.

Sinatra @ 8:51, the weirdest part is that YG is a geratric. He is surely a mental midget and a truly pathetic human being. Imagine a man in his silver years acting like an 8 year old. He must be borderline schizophrenic or suffering from some sort of dimentia. The best thing to do would be just to ban him to free us from this disgusting "human being"

Even if the Rams pass on Long, we should not sign him. They are delaying. It's clear they are not content with Long's physical.
