Brady's doing it, but Tannehill and his WRs working also

The NFL was aflutter for about a day this week when the University of Southern California athletics department tweeted a photo of Patriots quarterback Tom Brady working out with new slot receiver Danny Amendola at the USC facilities.

Somewhere, Peyton Manning probably got to thinking about flying to see Wes Welker and matching Brady throw for throw.

Everywhere around the NFL fans were both impressed and depressed -- the first with the idea that Brady is already working on his craft four months before the start of the preseason and secondly, that their hometown QBs might not be keeping pace.

I know some Dolphins fans got worried.

I got emails from a couple.

I had some ask me on twitter if Ryan Tannehill is also working with Miami's receivers or whether he's vacationing and playing tennis as he did last week.

Well, relax.

Someone asked Tannehill about Brady putting in work and Tannehill responded:

"Been having throwing session (sic) w my wideouts for weeks now," Tannehill tweeted.

Within seconds of that tweet, one of the receivers apparently joining those sessions jumped into the fray.

"Ya! Check yo self!" Brian Hartline added in some unremarkable English.

(Just kidding, Brian).

And although I cannot tell you how many Miami receivers are involved in these sessions, or how frequent they are or whether new additions Mike Wallace, Dustin Keller and Brandon Gibson are involved, at least you can know that folks aren't just standing around watching Brady gain chemistry with his newest receiver.

By the way, Brady on Thursday did a session with Terrell Owens.

I would be surprised if the Patriots are going to sign Owens, 39 and two years out of regular-season action, to a contract. And I know the Dolphins aren't going to do it, either.

I say this because I expect those are the next questions someone is bound to ask.

Who cares !! Just do it in the regular season #17 I expect 30-12-3,700 yds this year from Tannehilll this year from him no excuses dolphin fans !!

I REALLY HOPE THAT MIA DOLPHIN TE MICHAEL EGNEW IS ONE OF THE PLAYERS PARTICIPATING IN THESE OFFSEASON SESSIONS. IT WOULD BE GOOD TO KNOW IF EGNEW IS ONE OF THE OTHER DOLPHIN PLAYERS OVER THERE IN CALIFORNIA WORKING OUT WITH FELLOW TEAMMATE OFFENSIVE TACKLE WILL YEATMAN, AND FMR. NFL OFFENSIVE LINE COACH HOUCK HUDSON ON HIS BLOCKING TECHNIQUE. DOLPHIN OFFENSIVE LINE COACH TACKLE WILL

Tannehill will have a damn good year, but my baby R.Wilson will win the nfl m.v.p. this year with a monsterous season. Super Bowl championship season !!

DOLPHIN OT WILL YEATMAN WAS ALSO A FMR. TIGHT END WHO HAVE CONVERTED TO THE OFFENSIVE TACKLE POSITION. I WOULDN'T BE SURPRISED IF YEATMAN IS USED TO BE AN ELIGIBLE TACKLE AT TIMES DURING THE GAMES.

All these guys should be doing something!!

You got Sun Life open to the players in good weather right now. No need to travel anywhere.

The draft can't come fast enough!!

All the players off the record called Egnew a pu*** so he''s a big waste of time !! Just hope this team is finally relevant this year for a change !!

Mace,

After Miami drafts a TE in the 1st or 2nd round, he will be cut a week after the draft!!

Thank-you Bane and good morning fellow Dolphinsfans, the offense will click Tannehill will have a very good year !! ? will be will be , can Ireland deliver us more playmakers on both sides of the ball on draft weekend !!

Sometimes I have to wonder where are so called fans are coming from? Egnew has been working out all off season. Trying to become more physical and aggrezive. If we dont draft a tight end early, its an indication that Egnew is progressing. Coach Phillbin holds the coaches and trainers responsible when players fail to develope. Failure is not taken with a grain of salt. Its a new day fans, pay attention!

It's wrong to give up on a draftee after one year. That's why they are called rookies. Any team mate that would talk about a fellow team mate like that to the media is a cancer to the team. I highly doubt after catching 140 passes in 2 years for Missouri the guy is a p**sy. He was a rookie who simply didn't block well enough to get on the field.

Excuse me Hollywood 9 Egnew is Pu*** PERIOD PERIOD !!! The only reason why he's still on this roster is because Ireland has to save face PERIOD PERIOD !! Thee laet thing Ireland needs to hear from this which 80% still doesn't trust or can't stand by the way, another 3.rd bust !!

THEY, MIAMI DOLPHIN FANS MUST DIDN'T READ WHEN GENERAL MANAGER JEFF IRELAND SAID THAT TIGHT END MICHAEL EGNEW WILL HAVE A BETTER YEAR THIS SEASON. HE ALSO IMPLIED THAT BALTIMORE RAVENS TE DENNIS PITTA HAD A BREAKOUT SEASON DURING HIS SECOND SEASON. HIS TEAMMATES CAN CALL HIM WHATEVER THEY WANT TO CALL HIM BUT IRELAND HAS THE LAST WORD AT THE END OF THE DAY.

Bottom line Coach Sherman called him out on Hard Knocks this past season for the whole world to see !! That's the problem with most of you dolphin fans you people are a bunch of soft a*** yourselves !! Bottom line Egnew=BUST PERIOD PERIOD end of discussion !!

Ryan Tannehill-your mission is to throw 1000 passes/day, everyday. At least 500 of which have to be long throws. Run 3 miles, 4 x a week, and lift weights everyday. Protein only diet, with just a handful of complex carbs prior to workout. Lots of supplements. Oh, and it wouldn't hurt to view some tape of Tom Brady in action to learn how to read defenses and how to stay calm and focused throughout games.

Mace Taggert you are basing your comments on hard knocks? That was over a year ago. I dont believe you are a Dolphins fan.

I've been advocating early practice sessions b/w QB and receivers for YEARS now. It's a no-brainer. There's almost nothing that can compare to chemistry in that relationship, and the only way to create that is time together. That's the whole reason they resigned Hartline. I'm hoping Wallace is at those sessions, but at least if Hartline and Tannehill are working, we'll at least have 1 WR and the QB on the same page.

HE'S A SENSITIVE GANGSTA.

As far as TE in the draft, it would be awesome for the Fins to go after EIFERT but other pressing needs prevail. But I like this kid Escobar. NFL gurus have him ranked as the third best TE. He's big, can run, and catch. Might be interesting to look at with one the second round picks. What's your take Armando?

mace isnt a Dolphins fan. He is a troll. A disgusting little troll from jets land!

Another day and another awful take from mace. The other day he was asking why we all liked the white WR. And now we have this...the kid is a bust because of hearsay opinion and some toughlove coaching. Bottom line is no one knows if this kid is going to blossom in the offseason. If the coaches believed any of that he'd be gone already. And it hurts nothing to see how he performs in camp before jumping to conclusions of whether he is a bust.

Except for the following players #51-91-11-17-2-5-96-94-82 to a degree, the rest of this team really blows. And for the record coach phibin calls the shots in this organization now not j.Ireland !!

Finally feelin good ........lets go DRAFT......

notsotired,

I keep hearing this stuff about Escobar. I'm not convinced....and definitely not in the second. Sounds a lot like Egnew to me. To me he's a questin mark. Not saying he won't be a good player but I'm not sure we need to take another question mark before we really know what we have in Egnew. If we're going TE, I want Eiffert or maybe the kid from Cinci later. I still want to see more from Egnew.

I hope someone is looking after Lauren during all of this ...

Maybe I should be doing my part ... I'll book some sessions ... anything for the team!

Mark,

You're a soon to be married guy.....you're not eligible. Me on the other hand....I'm willing to make the sacrifice.

Hey Mace, why don't you like # 20?

Ok this is what i believe will happen. I really think that RT Winston is waiting to sign with the fins and I have a feeling that before the draft he will be signed. WIth that being said this is my mock draft

1st- NC OG Johnathon Cooper (Best pulling guard to come out in a long time)

2nd- Boise State CB Jamar Taylor ( help solidify secondary )

2nd- LSU S Eric Reid (future FS)

3rd- NC OT Brennan Williams (would be a 1st rd pick but due to injury he falls has potential to replace winston)

3rd- OH ST DE John Simon (pass rushing DE)

4th- FL ILB- John Bostic

5th- Mich ST TE Dion Sims

Rest BPA

Escobar can run? 4.8 is not exactly running.

Ireland could always sign a FA OT after the Draft, couldn't he?

Michael Egnew was harshly criticized by Mike Sherman early in the season. Later in the season, Sherman seemed to soften his negativity although he pointed out that Egnew had fallen behind early and was constantly playing catchup; was not, but needed to be a special teams contributor; was inconsistent and played slow.

With a full season of learning under his belt, Egnew may yet catch fire. It may also help Egnew's case that the offense should feature and game plan for another block-negative TE, Justin Keller.

Craig, stop cutting my grass!!!

Kelce from Cincy is more what the team needs as an X tight end. He is regarded as a TE that can block very well and catch passes. We already have pass catching TE's in Clay, Keller and possibly Egnew. What we really need is a guy that can do both very well. But the guy has character concerns after being suspended for a year. I would guess the team would like for a guy that can do both.

Ben Volin of the Palm Beach Post reported in mid-January:
"...Will Yeatman, a former tight end who potentially could start at one of the offensive tackle spots if Long leaves. Philbin succeeded at Iowa in turning tight ends into excellent offensive linemen (Eric Steinbach, Robert Gallery) and the team loves the athleticism of Yeatman, a former college lacrosse player. Yeatman (6-foot-6, 305 pounds) is working out in San Diego this offseason with former offensive line guru Hudson Houck, who coached the Dolphins’ line from 2005-07."

Egnew and Yeatman are 2 sleepers that may have a big impact on this year's draft.

Tyler Eifert, 6'6" 251, Notre Dame NFL Comparison Heath Miller

Zach Ertz, TE 6'5" 249 Stanford NFL Comparison Jason Witten

TE is a KEY position in the new NFL. A great TE will give us more touchdowns in the red zone, and lots of help to our new QB with short passes moving the chains.

Patriots: Gronkowski 6'6" 265 + Hernandez 6'1" 245
Dolphins: Eifert or Ertz + Keller 6'2" 250

WE NEED EIFERT or ERTZ. They are the only super star potential TE this year, the rest is similar to Fasano (nice blocking TEs).

2012 yards: Witten 1.039, Gonzalez 930, Miller 816, Graham 982, Gronkowski 790, Fasano 332.

Eifert/Ertz!! Go Big or go home. Go New Dolphins!

The most pressing need is more weapons for Tammy. As of right now we still only have one known player that can take it to the house on any given play.

Sometimes I'm amazed by the mock Drafts and BAP of so called experts. Some guy Today talking about WRs left out Steadman Bailey, Terrance Williams and Robert Woods. UFF! What are these People thinking about? Probably the Combine speed figures.

Tanny. It's hard to post from the cell.

I expect every player to be participating in some drills with teammates in the offseason. It doesn't have to be at full speed it just has to be professional enough for the players to build up some chemistry in both the technical sense and becoming buddies. If people think that by just attending the official workouts/practices it's enough then they are seriously mistaken. Let Brady have all the headlines on NFL.com etc, as I am happy for T-Hill and co to just come in under the radar!

Even in the Field and route running drills, I could clearly see that Bailey and Hopkins were the most complete and NFL ready WRs.

MICHAEL EGNEW WAS A WIDE RECEIVER IN COLLEGE AT MISSOURI BEFORE HE CONVERTED TO THE TIGHT END POSITION. HE'S ONLY PLAYED THE TIGHT END POSITION FOR ONE SEASON IN COLLEGE AND SEASON IN THE NFL. EGNEW IS STILL LEARNING TO BECOME A BETTER BLOCKING TIGHT END THAN JUST BEING A PASS CATCHING END.

A whole Lotta nothing, Mando.

Twitter is for pssies

Can you imagine showing up to work with Mace everyday? Change of jobs!
I have a nephew like that, give him one little piece of information that sticks and he is an expert on the subject.

Eifert is much more dynamic than Heath Miller. Ertz to Witten .. yeah, guess I can see it ..

LOL @ MarkinToronto......

Sessions with Lauren sound delicious....

This Will Yeatman talk about him spending time with the o-line guru is intriguing to me....good post. Made me use google....good job!!!!!

I like Bailey but pass on Williams and Woods

BRENT GRIMES WILL BE A NUMBER TWO CORNER BACK. I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE THE NCAA ALL TIME SINGLE SEASON INTERCEPTION RECORD HOLDER NCST CB DAVID AMERSON TO PLAY IN THE NICKEL CORNER BACK POSITION. BALL HAWK IS A PRESSING NEED IN THE SECONDARY. MISSISSIPPI STATE CORNER BACK BANKS HAS PRETTY GOOD FOOTBALL INSTINCTS. HE'S A SECOND ROUND PROSPECT.

Bottom line Coach Sherman called him out on Hard Knocks this past season for the whole world to see !! That's the problem with most of you dolphin fans you people are a bunch of soft a*** yourselves !! Bottom line Egnew=BUST PERIOD PERIOD end of discussion !!

Why don't you just shut your pie hole you fracking nitwit.

I can see that you are a knowledgeable Player evaluator, Mark in T. What Player position do you think the Dolphins will Draft first?

mace is an idiot and the great thing about it is no one, except for maybe bane, buys into his crap. As for Egnew, maybe he will come around, maybe he will not. We will know by the end of preseason. Like someone said above if he was as bad as that bulls*** show hard knocks made him out to be then he would have been looong gone already. I wish trolls jets trolls would get a life. THAT MEANS YOU MACE!

HE'S A SENSITIVE GANGSTA.

Lol

My take on Egnew is the same as it was on Odrick. Damn right I'm hard on a player that's either a late-bloomer or doesn't develop as expected (or needed). Odrick was a somewhat pleasant surprise when he came into his own as a decent talent. We'll see if he can improve and become a star.

But I didn't give him credit until he earned it. Egnew is exactly the same way. I'm not saying dump the guy, he's young, there's still time to see what you got there. But I'm certainly not putting down any bets on him. The NFL is a fluid league. Things move quickly. Teams are re-made it seems every 1-2 years since FAs move on and new players emerge. A team can't hold a guy's hand for 5 years waiting for him to blossom anymore. They don't see it first few years, they move on. That's just how it is.

If I had to predict, I'd say Egnew makes the team, only if its because he's in his rookie contract and not costing much. But if Keller does what we've seen him do in NY, we draft a talent, and one of the current other guys steps up, Egnew will be on the outside looking in if he doesn't show anything this year.

Ben Volin reported?

You mean same guy who reported Reggie Bush was signing soon after the season with Miami? You mean the guy Mando took to the woodshed about Sean Smith?

LOL.

It is sad, but Odrick is one of my favorite players. I think its because he is so freaking cool, you ever hear him in his interviews? He is smart, thoughtful and has the coolest voice and he does the Pee Wee dance after a sack. Yes, I know that sounds gay!

And to say he is a bust or underachiever is dumb, he wasnt a top of the draft 1st rounder and he played better last year, remember he didnt get a chance to play year on!! He may not get you 12 sacks, but he rocks against the run and gets you sacks every now and again. SOLID SOLID SOLID

Oscar, I did some homework but as legendary hockey coach Punch Imlach (or was it Toe Blake?) used to say - predictions are for gypsies.

I will say this .. the most gifted athletes respective to their positions in this class are as follows:

Lane Johnson
Eric Fisher
Sheldon Richardson
Star Loutleilei
Tyler Eifert
Johnathan Cooper

I fully expect the pick to be one of these guys.

yo man why dont you people have some respect instead of fantazing publicly about another mans wife. Dont be losers.

I'm almost done with reading mock drafts lol. Can't wait to see what team we'll field this year.

I wish the offseason wasn't so damn long.
