Brady's doing it, but Tannehill and his WRs working also

The NFL was aflutter for about a day this week when the University of Southern California athletics department tweeted a photo of Patriots quarterback Tom Brady working out with new slot receiver Danny Amendola at the USC facilities.

Somewhere, Peyton Manning probably got to thinking about flying to see Wes Welker and matching Brady throw for throw.

Everywhere around the NFL fans were both impressed and depressed -- the first with the idea that Brady is already working on his craft four months before the start of the preseason and secondly, that their hometown QBs might not be keeping pace.

I know some Dolphins fans got worried.

I got emails from a couple.

I had some ask me on twitter if Ryan Tannehill is also working with Miami's receivers or whether he's vacationing and playing tennis as he did last week.

Well, relax.

Someone asked Tannehill about Brady putting in work and Tannehill responded:

"Been having throwing session (sic) w my wideouts for weeks now," Tannehill tweeted.

Within seconds of that tweet, one of the receivers apparently joining those sessions jumped into the fray.

"Ya! Check yo self!" Brian Hartline added in some unremarkable English.

(Just kidding, Brian).

And although I cannot tell you how many Miami receivers are involved in these sessions, or how frequent they are or whether new additions Mike Wallace, Dustin Keller and Brandon Gibson are involved, at least you can know that folks aren't just standing around watching Brady gain chemistry with his newest receiver.

By the way, Brady on Thursday did a session with Terrell Owens.

I would be surprised if the Patriots are going to sign Owens, 39 and two years out of regular-season action, to a contract. And I know the Dolphins aren't going to do it, either.

I say this because I expect those are the next questions someone is bound to ask.

rhodes and jordan both wont be there when u have them being drafted

I don't see the Albert trade happening because he'll be too expensive (big money and a pick or two). Not convinced he's much of an upgrade over the available cheaper FA's either.

It's really so interesting how many ways we can go at 12 and a good case can be made for a lot of guys. I'm not convinced they are done with the offensive players though as the priority.

Mocks are a dumb waste of time. Nobody ever knows how the draft board will fall and who will trade picks with who.

Also, the fans are armed with water pistols, they have nothing but a one paragraph scouting report on each player, while GM's have a whole scout team that know the players personally, their habits, their teammates and their coaches.

The above might be true but then the Dolphin's options are less because they will have to fill a dire need at LT/RT @ #12 in the draft.

Half the players you think you'd want you would end up passing on if you knew them better.

DRAFT EDDIE LACY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OT is a must have as defined by Mr. Ireland. I don't like the idea of moving up but If we don't we could end up being real sorry. I guess it's all going to depend on what happens with the first 5 picks. I keep coming back to the thought maybe they don't see Martin as a LT. So that in itself may complicate the situation further. Then you have to get an LT.

This is great, We can spend another full 20 days saying we need an LT ad nauseam 24 hours a day.

We need an LT.

My guess is Ireland is waiting for the price to come down on one of the FA's, or he will draft one.

Either way we need an LT.

FA has gone well. One area we are still lacking in is LT.

I have to believe Ireland realizes we still need to address the LT position either in FA or the draft.

At least I hope he realizes this.

Dadsmith,

I agree with you. The Dolphins probably not sold on martin as a LT. Scary thought but here is what's left in free agency at LT(not counting RT available):
1. Bryant mckinnie- older player but a decent stop gap
2. Jared gaither- young and talented but lazy and injury prone
3. Demetress bell- FA busy for Phil but was injured.
4. Jason smith- might not even be a LT(maybe full time at RT)- young but a draft bust

As you can see- not much available. So that leaves a trade up scenario in the draft or a trade for Brandon Albert. Pick your poison. You sound like a trade up draft guy. I'm all about giving martin a chance at LT, sign Clabo or Winston (yes him again) as a stop gap and draft guys like Kyle long, or Armstead and develop them.

In his latest mock, Kiper has them taking Fluker. Fluker is a RT only. He may be a good one too but he doesn't strike me as a philbin type of lineman.

Maybe they see Martin as the LT? In this case we would need to address RT.

I have to believe Ireland realizes that we need to address either LT or RT.

Let's just say we still need to add an OT, could be RT, could be LT, but we have a hole either way at OT,

No way KC gives up a top tackle they franchised for a 3rd rd pick.

Maybe they give in on multiple picks but I don't see them taking less than a 2nd.

If they didn't pay up for Long, they aren't going to pay up for Albert.

rick we can maybe get him for a 2nd and a 6th if they panick eve of draft. long sucks, albert solid lt

Listening to WQAM the other day, they were talking about this. Almost every person that called in said they would be pizzed if Dolphins took a LT or lineman at 12. Funny how people down here have such a different opinion. LT or O lineman is NOT popular in Miami

Need LT,

Please read my post at 8:39 am this morning up on the page. It succinctly shows the dolphins options. And I understand the point of arguing ad nauseam is annoying, but we fans are excited bc the dolphins are finally resembling a well run organization and it frustrates knowing that LT, a key to making this offense run, is not in place. Call our arguing about the LT position nervous excitement.

Priority #1 should be OT.

Either RT or LT, preferably LT.

Next I will review the 4017 posts over the last month covering every single possible scenario in getting Albert. (not include the 312 posts from today)

Frank you are a bit late to the game. That post was kind of like reading Sir Isaac Newton discovered gravity.

Need OT,

Let me save you the time. Read my post at 8:39 am this morning and it will save you lots of reading!

Dolphin Rick- I agree. Just wishful thinking. Remember this however, Albert wants a guarantee that he will play LT in KC. If a hold out is imminent, they may dump him for less.

Excitement is fine. At times it's like none of you realize you are all repeating the very same points all day every day, as though it was the first time.

Then, of course, someone will invariably refer to Kiper's mock, as though that has more relevance than a bird dropping.

dusty,

It really wouldn't bother me if we gave them our 2nd and compensatory 5th for him.

I'm really having my doubts we go that way though. I can see them wanting to go younger.

It would cost a kings ransom to get high enough to get Joeckle or Fisher though.

Frank, just ignore the moron. The dumb ass complains yet he continues to stay. You can tell she has no brains or no life. Normal people go elsewhere when their bored while this ass stays and makes comments. How dumb can one person be???

i hope they get albert rick.

Marc is an uneducated burned out druggie that is generally as clueless as a donkey's behind. he is propably odins nephew.

bobby,

It's not about what's popular with the fans it's about what the team NEEDS. The fans got their toys in FA, the draft is about putting cornerstones in place. There's a way we can get our LT and still have lots of picks left to add players in the draft. Pretty obvious, actually...

How dumb can one person be???

The problem with Albert is not the pick they'll have to give up, it's the money they'll have to pay him. He's not worth it. Why would you pay a 27 year old lineman who's had some health issues a contract in the vicinity of $10 mil or so, when you can get a first round OT for less than half of that? Let's see: younger, cheaper, healthier. Check, check, check. Not sure what the argument is.

and maybe not near as good craig and u use your first rd pick. why not deal for him and keep him on the franchised deal then. even though i wouldnt mind a 3 year 25 deal

Troll,

Have you nothing better to do than cut and post people's comments from over a month ago. Seriously man, I see you pulling this crap all the time. Get some help!!

Bobby and others have an opinion that doesn't match yours. Who cares. Why do you feel the need to mock others because it doesn't match yours? Shows real insecurities on your part that there's no room for other's opinions and the fact you have the need to use multiple names to counter that is even sadder.

LMAO, "clown" with "issues" someone who sits on a blog all day they don't like and complains. Dumb as a rock

Need OT,

Youre ok with me man! Sir isaac newton was a sweet reference!

Sometimes we forget about gravity. One of those take it for granted things until it ceases and we all float out into space. The point of the post at 8:39 was to summarize the situation for the dolphins at this point. I also was one of the first posts this morning since the sun came up so I don't understand the late to game reference! Some bloggers on these posts are all about drafting Austin or Patterson or Eifert, and believe me I like them all. But I like to think of myself as one of the reasonable bloggers. I'm all for intelligent conversation. You may disagree with me but listen to my opinion and I will listen to yours. I happen to be a "fix the Tackle" problem guy before worrying about any other playmakers.

Some bloggers are misinformed. Some other guys on their websites, namely Walter on walterfootball,.com blast every move the dolphins make. He keeps saying our salary cap situation is messed up in the coming years. You should read some of my posts to him under his "free agent grades" section. I just like to be the voice of reason bc so many people don't recognize what's right under their noses and are more concerned with ancillary things.

Posted by: Craig M | April 07, 2013 at 10:55 AM

I was thinkng along the same lines Craig. We have a tendency to look at the draft like an event but its a process.

They'll set their board vertically, horizontally whatever and then make their selections as it falls.

They did say trades were a possibility though and we haven't seen one of those yet.

Bobby,

Isn't that the same guy who repost the herpes thing again over and over??

Craigarrea,

So you are ok with bobbydooshes sick and vile posts? You welcome conversation with people that tell others such disgusting things?

Fine, that's your choice.

Now mind your own business.

dusty,

I'm not that high on Albert. He's probably a $6 mil a year guy, on a three year deal. That's what he's probably worth on the open market. Not sure why we should have to overpay for him and also trade a pick or picks. It's bad business. He's not a difference maker...simply a solid guy.

The strength of this draft is it's DEPTH, not the top of the draft. I'd have no problem dealing our first and late second to get one of those LT's. It fills a big need for the next 5 years. I don't see Martin as being the answer. So to me it's an easy decision. Lots of picks left to do damage with. We've already addressed a lot of out needs in FA. The rest is just gravy.

Craig M,

I'm leaning your way. Trading up seems the only viable scenario or at least, the scenario that makes the most sense. I just think that teams trade up when they feel they are close to the Super Bowl generally. I just don't think we are there yet man. So the toughest part for me is giving up the picks.

Craig M, first off, the fans do matter. This team has gone from a 60,000 seat ticket base to 30,000 and they have a huge referendum they need the fans to vote on.
Secondly, what some of you guys see as some "glaring" NEED, a lot of us don't. I see zero need to go out and draft a LT. I have no problem with Martin over there or drafting a guy lower to compete. This blog is the only place I keep reading about this "glaring need" while the fans on talk radio in Miami are saying just the opposite.

Dolfan Rick, yep same troll. Must be proud his mom has herpes cause she keeps posting it over and over.

Frank

Your opinions are sensible and well written. There is very little of that here. The 'late to the game' comment comes from this endless repetition and regurgitation of the same few thoughts regarding the OT position. There is only so much can be said about it and I'd say we've overflowed the river and broke the dam long ib it long before this morning.

Bobby,

We'll talk during the season when Tannehill's getting killed and they can't get the ball to Wallace.

If the team wins the fans will come out. They're a fickle bunch anyways, so I couldn't really care less what the fans want. I only care about the team. The fans mean zip to me.

Lastly, again it doesn't really matter what you and I think, it matters what Ireland and Philbin think. The fact they haven't added a RT yet tells me they're not confortable with Martin as their LT. Neither guy has said, 'Martin is our LT'. Tells me they've yet to address it.

Plaintiff (and your other aliases),

I'm not surprised the comment is coming from you. YOu we're fooling anybody with your juvenille copy and paste BS and snide comments to those you don't agree with. I supposed you'll continue to tell us over and over again how you 'don't use other names'. You're fooling nobody on here but yourself.

Frank,

I'll toss one football post at you to make up for my badgering.

If they see one of those LT's as valuable as the mocks do, I'd be ok with a trade up. However, I don't think it will be possible. Too many teams before us need an LT as much as we do. Ireland might offer something in a trade up, but you know he won't break the bank to do it either.

He's not a difference maker...simply a solid guy.

=======================================================

I think thqt sentence sums up the LT situation. Are we good with a solid LT? Or are we willing trade 2 or three of the picks we've stockpiled to get one that may be a difference maker.

Lets not forget that CB is still a high priority and we would like to upgade our pass rush and the guard and safety positions as well.

One other thing Bobby. I'll trust the team of Ireland and Philbin to make the right decisions, and not the fans. This isn't fantasy football and the blueprint to success is right there for us as shown by the Niners, Packers and Steelers. We've got the playmakers for now. Time to invest a pick or too in the trenches and I'm confident that's the way these guys will go.

Craig M, to sit here and say Tannehill is going to get killed cause Martin is LT is a little over wall. Martin was a LT in college. Martin has the size and height . Martin was thrown in during the middle of the season when Jake was injured. If Martin is LT I certainly expect him to do his job.

Posted by: Dolfan Rick | April 07, 2013 at 11:21 AM

Lol. Maybe I should use the preview gimmick....or spell check.

We have to realize that we have no idea what our staff thinks about any of these LT's. Can we just assume they are special because the mockers say they are? No way.

I'll trust our own talent evaluaters on it. If they trade up for one, I'm for it, and if they pass, then I'll have to believe they just weren't worth a pick that high.

Bobby,

I hope you're not using the excuse that Martin was 'thrown in during the middle of the season', as a reason for his struggles. After all, as you said he was a LT in College. If you project his games over a full season he played worse than an injured Long, who everyone berated. And you're OK with that?

Again, if Martin is the surefire LT, why hasn't he been annointed by the team and why haven't they signed a RT?

We got 11 picks in the draft relax on the OT we will get the depth we need.in the draft or FA. U ppl act like or FO is clueless and does not know or needs lol!

Bobby,

Is it safe for me to assume that you just don't value the LT position? Safe for me to assume that you don't agree with how the Niners and others are running their business'? It's great that they have guys like Kaepernick and Vernon as playmakers but it's also safe to assume that they wouldn't be the players they are without that line in front of them. I expect you'll argue this point but what's clear is the SF management gets it, as shown by the contract given to Anthony Davis this week.

Again Craig, what you see as some big glaring need a lot of us don't. And I am confident Ireland will not make the same mistake by drafting a lineman with the 1st pick. I believe he will take a playmaker, whether it be on offense or defense. In 18 days, one of us will be right and one of us gets are balls broken.

Bobby,

I'll be Ok with whatever they decide. It's not about being right for me, it's about this team winning. If this team wins then I'll be a happy guy.

Tanehill will be running for his life without Big Jake. Ireland made a HUGE BOTCH.

Craig, Long was supposed to be are LT for a decade. We spent almost every year drafting lineman with our first pick and where are we now?? Pouncey is what we have to show. So yes, I would be just as happy with a Pugh, Long or Brennan in the second or 3rd round competing with Martin as I would wasting another 1st rd pick on O line.
Vacarro, Eifert, Allen, Anash

Craig M, me too!! Winning is all we all want :)

go get albert

ill take jarvis jones or womack in first rd

Craig M,

I agree and disagree with your take.

I agree that we need a Tackle to fill out the line. I'm just not sure that the F.O. doesn't believe Martin is a LT. I think the main reason that they haven't said so because it IS draft season and they want to keep their plans unknown.

Personally, I think Martin projects as a better LT than RT because he has very good lateral movement. It is his strength that was the main issue. Still, I wouldn't be surprised if we moved up for Lane Johnson but I think we can get a RT in round 2 and take BPA at 12 or trade back.
