Brady's doing it, but Tannehill and his WRs working also

The NFL was aflutter for about a day this week when the University of Southern California athletics department tweeted a photo of Patriots quarterback Tom Brady working out with new slot receiver Danny Amendola at the USC facilities.

Somewhere, Peyton Manning probably got to thinking about flying to see Wes Welker and matching Brady throw for throw.

Everywhere around the NFL fans were both impressed and depressed -- the first with the idea that Brady is already working on his craft four months before the start of the preseason and secondly, that their hometown QBs might not be keeping pace.

I know some Dolphins fans got worried.

I got emails from a couple.

I had some ask me on twitter if Ryan Tannehill is also working with Miami's receivers or whether he's vacationing and playing tennis as he did last week.

Well, relax.

Someone asked Tannehill about Brady putting in work and Tannehill responded:

"Been having throwing session (sic) w my wideouts for weeks now," Tannehill tweeted.

Within seconds of that tweet, one of the receivers apparently joining those sessions jumped into the fray.

"Ya! Check yo self!" Brian Hartline added in some unremarkable English.

(Just kidding, Brian).

And although I cannot tell you how many Miami receivers are involved in these sessions, or how frequent they are or whether new additions Mike Wallace, Dustin Keller and Brandon Gibson are involved, at least you can know that folks aren't just standing around watching Brady gain chemistry with his newest receiver.

By the way, Brady on Thursday did a session with Terrell Owens.

I would be surprised if the Patriots are going to sign Owens, 39 and two years out of regular-season action, to a contract. And I know the Dolphins aren't going to do it, either.

I say this because I expect those are the next questions someone is bound to ask.

DRAFT EDDIE LACY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

.... This subject is so over-rated it isn't even worth discussing. Every freekin quarterback from Brady to the Chaffey High School JV guy is throwing in the offseason. This is what you do when you are a quarterback. You find ways to build an edge. Any little thing that may help you say in a fourth quarter that could be a difference between win and loss..This is Tannehill doing his job.

Easy Slam ... just playing around ... it's not like any of us are any kind of threat ... no need to get your knickers in a twist

#20 has to do it again, if he want to join the the following #ers 2-5-11-17-51-91-94-96 as the only real players on this roster !!

lol..mark your stating the obvious. Just saying have a little class. Its one thing to mention shes good looking but to "have sessions with her" is a little overboard. Anyways.....back to football talk!

and Besides Mark, that girl in your pic is much hotter LOL

I agree with Darryl this is a weak article Armando, Tannehill said this in a Tweet "Yay were working", Hartline responded by saying "Yep we are", Wallace said "Yo Dude", who gives a crap!

So much for one of my favourite WRs as a 2d rd pick ..

** University of Tennessee WR Justin Hunter has emerged as a hot name as the draft approaches. NFL Films guru Greg Cosell likes Hunter's game tape better than teammate -- and more highly regarded prospect -- Cordarrelle Patterson's. Meanwhile, Hall of Fame WR Cris Carter says Hunter has the most upside of any WR in the draft class. Hunter is a rangy 6’4, 196-pounder with 4.4 wheels. From a size-speed perspective, he reminds us a bit of Bengals WR A.J. Green. Hunter has one major issue, though. He drops a lot of passes. That’s sorta a big deal for a WR. We’ll see how willing teams are to look past that. Aside from the dropsies, Hunter looks like a 1st-round pick. He could make sense there for a team like the Vikings or Texans.

** According to insider Omar Kelly, the Dolphins are concerned about RB Daniel Thomas' "ability to be the big, physical goal line runner." Thomas goes 6'1, 228 pounds but has just 4 rushing TDs in his first 2 NFL seasons. The offshoot here is that RB Lamar Miller could get a crack at goal line duties. Although he's considered more of a speed back, Miller is well-built at 5'11 and 212 pounds. He scored 9 times in his final season at the University of Miami. A bigger red zone role would only add to Miller's intriguing 2013 fantasy outlook. The Dolphins could also add another RB in this month's draft.

More on Geno ...

** NFL Network’s Mike Mayock called West Virginia QB Geno Smith a top-10 talent after his Pro Day last month. That evidently doesn’t mean Mayock would select him that high, though. He’s not even sure Smith is a top-20 guy. “First of all, ball security, ties into the pocket awareness. Whatever that number is, 30, 32 fumbles in his career, he has no awareness of the rush surrounding him,” Mayock said of Smith. “Deep ball accuracy: I put a reel together of 6 to 8 throws that should have been TDs, wide open vertical guys that he overthrew or underthrew. He stares down receivers and he throws the football late, so there’s a lack of anticipation and timing.” Scouting reports on Smith continue to be all over the map, but he remains the heavy favorite to be the 1st QB off the board later this month. And based on positional value, that probably means he’ll be a top-10 pick.

Not draft or Dolphins related but this guy is just BEAST ..

** Texans DE J.J. Watt revealed that he played through an elbow injury during the entire 2012 season. He dislocated the elbow in August and never got back to 100%. “In the beginning, it definitely affected me,” Watt admitted. “All the ligaments in there were torn, they were all gone, so they had to have time to recover and regroup. So obviously, I wasn’t at full strength. The brace helped a lot, but it was more of a mental thing, getting over the thought process of knowing that it was injured and making sure that I could still have confidence in it. As the season went on, I got more and more confidence in it and obviously, it didn’t hinder me too much; I had some success out there. But (I’m) looking forward to a 100% full healthy season.” Despite the bum elbow, Watt racked up 81 tackles, 20.5 sacks and 16 defensed passes to capture Defensive Player of the Year honors. Betting on another 20-sack campaign might not be wise, but it's not out of the realm of possibility either. Watt will obviously be healthier in 2013, and he's still only 24 years old.

Everyone's favourite ...

** QB Pat White is back in the league after agreeing to a deal with the Redskins. Miami's 2009 2nd-round pick has yet to complete a regular-season NFL pass. He went 0 for 5 in '09 and has been out of the league ever since. He's been out of football since playing in the UFL in 2011. While White is a good fit in Washington's read-option offense, he's a long shot to even make the final 53-man roster. You can safely ignore him in fantasy football drafts.

Rdubs, yeah she was a good time for the two years I had her around. Pure goldigger though and a bit of a huer .. but otherwise a good time, haha

Rdubs, your attitude is exactly why Miami hasn't done anything in 30 years. That's fine if he's your favorite player, but you need to understand the high standards this organization must have of it's talent (ESPECIALLY 1st-round talent). Being a decent player (which is what I said, not a bust or an underachiever) for a 1st rounder (I don't care WHERE in the 1st round he was drafted) should not be acceptable if this team is ever thinking of going to another SB. No, everyone can't be ProBowlers or Top 100 in the league, I get that, but you hope that more of your 1st rd picks become stars than not.

Oh, by the way, Aaron Rodgers is bottom 1st-rounder, and now he's the best QB in the league. So to diminish bottom 1st-rounders as if they are 6th-rounders is completely wrong in my book. They are usually touted as being the best couple of guys at their position in that draft class (as Odrick was).

Odrick has value. I was using him as a reason NOT to ditch a late-bloomer (you mentioned Year 1 as him being hurt, yet failed to mention Year 2, where he wasn't some huge dynamo. If we're both being honest he's steadily improved every year, but he's not a Cameron Wake or even a Paul Soliai).

But my point wasn't Odrick (who's proven his worth to the team). It was Egnew (who still needs to do that). I'm happy to have Odrick on the team. Egnew, in my eyes, is on the bubble. Needs to step up. Ball's in his court.

Mark, I now hate you!!! 2 years of that must have been nice. Can you tell I have been married for 15 years? I am only 34!!!

DC,

I apologize if it came across as a dig at your post. your post was spot on. I was referring to folks calling him a bust or a wasted pick ( thats why I stated my Odrick bias in the post). My bad yo!

rdubs, 15 years??? If you killed her when you met her, you'd be out by now ..

haha, justjoking... I'm about to get married myself .. June 1 .. 38 Years old ..first time .. yeah I enjoyed my time ...

And I won't mention that the girl in the pic was 23 when i met her ... 13 years younger than me at the time ..

Hey MIADOLFAN207- Stop using all caps it is really annoying you are a MORON.

Packer fan here, Just want to give some of you Dolphin fans a preview of what is to come with Philbin. Most rookies don't play much their first year. Their best shot is playing in their second year. The Dolphins are looking at creating a deep and young team. That is the philosophy they will have. Wait and see the draft picks from last year increase their production and playing time. The new draft picks will get playing time, but most wont fully develop until their second year. If you don't know the system, you don't Play. Your 1st round pick is about the only person that possibly can play the first year. Everyone else will have to wait till they develop.

T-Sizzle and Bess have been putting in Work. Sherman is His Coach. The Fin Offense has No Offseason. Matt Moore is also Putting in Work. They are Trying to Practice for the Practice. We Need To Run 80+ Plays a Game.

T-Hill doesn't have to go to USC to Train. He's Either In The Bubble or at The UM Campus Throwing Passes To The Talent. L.Miller is Also Probably Catching Passes.

Just Good to have Confirmation. Thanks, Mando.

Players Don't want to come to Miami. But Players Also Don't Want To Leave Miami.

How Many Players Make Miami Their OffSeason Home? Just The Dolphins Not The League.

Where Does Wallace Live? Or Moved To As Soon as He Signed.

Hartline?

Bess?

L.Miller?

Pounce?

And On and On....

Tanny is not Brady. Let's not get confused here.

All good Rdubs, yeah, I thought you were being critical to the post, not the knuckleheads. And I agree, Odrick is NOT someone the team should let loose. He still has plenty of upside.

I'm not an Egnew fan....but it has been reported that he is more athletic than any TE coming out this year

You have to be a fracking retard to quote anything Omar Kelly says.

Random thing. So I love this son from Pepper called "Wake Up" they are a Hawaiian reggae/punk band. I thought the chorus of this song would sound so awesome after every Cameron Wake sack at home games. I wish I knew how to let him know it existed!! Every time I hear it, I imagine him sack the crap out of Brady .wATCH YA GUYS THINK

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c5pT4GsMzPg

Adama, I will pass that on to the writers at the site where I lifted the comment. Kelly may be a retard (I'm not a fan) but the point is that Thomas is playing for his career this year.

People talk crap about Omar, but he did know Kaepernick and Flacco were really good, he deserves some props! Thomas isnt as bad as everyone makes him out to be, if he stays healthy and stops fumbling, he can be really good (never elite)

I agree, Thr-ill is not Brady. He is younger, smarter and a better athlete.
He has the potential to be better than Brady.

haha, fumbling and getting injured are two traits not adored in a RB.

true, But Tiki fixed his fumblitis, head injuries those are a killer, though!

True and True!

@MIADOLFAN207 Stop YELLING! FYI, the majority of readers will skip posts that are in all caps.

Dis is the best class of safety in ten years mia will get pro bowl saftety if not one th
ree

mia will make the playoff an win AFC east this year an years to come

...about Terrel Owens...are you sure we can't fit him in...? ...ROFLOL...

Tannehill Is Not Brady. T-Hill Is More Physically Gifted Than Brady.

Brady had Better Coaching. And Was Allowed To Develop On A Great Team.

Don't Worry T-Hill Is Smart Enough, And Sherman That Good Of A Coach That He Won't Let Him Fail.

T-Hill Played at NFL Speed With No WR's His Rookie Year. Playing The Pennington/Brady Offense. The Dink n Dunk. With No Running Threat. Not Even From The RB. And A MLB Throwing Games Left And Right.

This Year, The Offense Has Weapons. And The Defense Should Create More Turnovers!!
Get 1 More Red Zone Threat. Hopefully a Tall Wr That Can Run, Or Another Tall Athletic TE You Can Develop.

Fix The Line, Which Is Probably Ireland's #1 Priority. And The Shocker Might Be That We Do It With High Draft Picks. And Not The First rounder. If These Coaches Are Good Enough They Can Make 2nd Rounders Play Like First Rounders. But Just Like In FA, Will Age Be A Factor With The Picks?.. Does Ireland Values Younger Players In The Draft? Guys That Are 21, Not 24. If So Does That Guy Get Picked Based On Potential. Like a L.Miller, Or O.Vernon. That Came Out A Year Early. Else They Would've Been First Rounders. Like M.Lattimore Or E.Lacy.

Hope he is right

hmmm there is this monster 6'5" WR with amazing >34" arms, big hands and a 4.4 40-yard-dash called Rodney Smith. Rodney is still raw but he could be drafted late in the 5th round (#166). I hope Dolphins give him a thorough look, being from FSU and all...

While on qb/wr subject, I'm going to go out on a limb here:

First of all, all fa olinemen now available are RT at best. yet to sign any may suggest Martin starts RT and a Albert trade forthcoming. If this comes to fruition:

Why not trade down, recoup a 2nd rd'er, Then give Tannehill an wr with ability to run by, through, or jump over opposing db's? Who you ask? Cordarrelle Patterson if still available in a trade down scenario.

I would take Patterson over any of the TE's 1st rd if trading back and is available.

Albert may not even cost a 2013 draft pick if Ireland waits until KC takes one of LT's with the first overall pick. Then we may spring him for 2014 2nd rd'er instead.

Of course, trading down sets to motion several possibilities. However, if we traded down and Patterson's still on the board its a no brainer to grab him.

Remember, this is only an outside of the box theory, not a fact.

Dashi, I believe Justin Hunter is the guy you'd be looking for but alas word is he won't make it out of the 20s.

I know this guy has character flaws but an unreal skill set - Da'Rick Rogers... I know he's not a Philbin guy but man as a 3rd rd pick you won't get anyone more talented...

YG, the issue with the guy from KC is his price tag and needing a new deal. Would basically put the Dolphins back in the Jake Long scenario.

Key is if Martin can play LT, Philbin should be able to evaluate that. He did ok last year, and was great in college. Also, there is an outside chance the Yeatman(?) gets in there.

All else fails look for them to grab a LT early. I am kinda leaning towards OL with the first pick. A good G/T will fall to 12.

On another note, kudos on that one Mark.

I like our wr corps as an upgrade to 2012's unit. But lets not get overly caught up in thinking its a championship caliber wr corps by the addition of Mike Wallace alone. Sure, he can blast by defenders, but we still need that guy who can run by, over, and jump thru defenders. You all know this isn't Brian Hartline.

I believe, if we could add a wr of this ilth, in the form of Cordarrelle Patterson. This is indeed would become a far more formidable wr corps. Im not advocating Patterson at #12, but I would advocate him in a trade down scenario, if still on the board.

Common Sense,

Actually youre right. At present we have 8 million left on the cap. !0 million goes back onto the cap June 1st, I think it is, when 10 million saved from Dansby/Burnett officially goes back into the coffer.

So that would officially give us 18 millionish. 10 million of that goes back to "operational cost", meaning 8million left to spend. Albert's franchise tag is 9.9 million. So we would still need to shave 2 million to fit him under 2013's cap.

We can do a trade for Albert, but, would need to clear about 2 million more in cap money to do so. Somebody presently on the roster would have to be cut to do so.

hmmm there is this monster 6'5" WR with amazing >34" arms, big hands and a 4.4 40-yard-dash called Rodney Smith. Rodney is still raw but he could be drafted late in the 5th round (#166). I hope Dolphins give him a thorough look, being from FSU and all...

Posted by: Hydrashock | April 05, 2013 at 01:19 PM

Agreed. I've wanted to get him since the combine. He could fall into the 5th rd. I'd take him in rd 4.

The trolls on this blog aren't very good...more like troll wannabes...garden gnomes!

Tracy, don't poke the trolls...

Nobody here?

Oh yeah, the Troll has to report to the welfare office the first Friday of every month.

Kind of peaceful.

After watching Tannehill in both college and pro I have no idea why he was drafted in the 1st rd. He is a huge dissapointment especially for a 1st rd pick. I hope they draft a QB early because relying on Tannehill is like relying on Henne.

YG, on Albert they could structure a contract extension that lowers the cap hit for this year.

On Patterson, he might still be there in a trade down. His stock seems to have fallen a bit. Would you advocate trading Bess for maybe a 4th rounder then? I don't think there would be enough balls to go around with Wallace, Patterson, Hartline, Bess, and Gibson. That's not to mention Keller, Matthews, Egnew, Clay, and other pass catchers the team might draft.

Fin77, really?

Rookie with the worst WR corp in the league takes his team to 7-9, could have been 9-7 *cough*Carp*cough* and you think he is bad? Or better yet that a QB in this years draft class is better? You do realize there are numerous articles that T-Hill would be the #1 pick this year, right?

Give the guy a break, not every rookie has an amazing first year. RGIII, Luck, and Wilson all had more to work with and more prior experience. Lets see what the guy does when he has recievers.

I spoke to soon.

Fins77 was camped out in front of the place when they opened this morning.

Get that Money Fin.

Mark in Tonronto,

I wouldn't worry about Craig M. c8ck blocking you. He couldn't score with Aloco's iguana, let alone Mrs. Tanny.

Why would anyone respond to Fin 77??
He has proven with his posts he is either.
A. A troll
B. Is brain dead
C. Knows very little about football
D. All of the above

Mock Draft? Everyone mocks everyone Irescums drafts!! LOL

The same people that loved Henne love Tannehill. Too Funny!

Dashi Is Sad. Why Does No-one Say They Love Dashi No More?

Dashi Tries. Dashi Says All The Stupid Things You Want To Say So You Dont Have To Imbarrass Yourselfs.

Give Dashi Some Love!

Dashi SMOOCH!!

Egnew is Garbage. Period. I love it when so called 'better' fans clamp onto every player even when it is obvious that they are utter garbage. Just like in recent years with Pat White, Chad HENNE, Ted Ginn etc. I am still waiting for them to be all-world like so many on this blog fought tooth and nail claiming they'd become.

The kid was drafted high and that is the only reason he's on the roster. That's it. If he was drafted in the 7th round he'd be gone already and a non-issue.

I LOOK AT SOME OF THESE POSTS AND I AGREE WITH SOME AND TOTALLY DISAGREE WITH A LOT OF THEM. ESPECIALLY THOSE THAT WHO WANTS TO TRADE DOWN! WHY? IF 11 PICKS ARE NOT ENOUGH THAN WHAT DIFFERENCE WILL 2 MORE PICKS DO? WHAT WOULD BE GOOD IS TO MOVE UP TO GET THE GUY YOU REALLY WANT. I THINK THE PROBLEM IS THE FINS REALLY WANT AUSTIN OR SOME WR. REASON BEING IS THE FLIRTATION WITH WINSTON,THE SIGNING OF GRIMES,KELLER,AND STILL TRYING TO WAIT ON LONG UNTIL HE FINALLY SIGNED WITH THE RAMS. IT'S VERY SIMPLE FOR THE FINS TO MOVE UP AND GET A OT. IF THEY WERE DESPARATE FOR ANOTHER PASS RUSHER THEY COULD HAVE EASILY SIGNED A VETERAN! BUT ONCE AGAIN THEY CHOSE NOT TO! WHY HAVEN'T THEY RELEASED PATTERSON OR TRADED BESS YET? BECAUSE THE TEAM WILL NOT GET RID OF A GOOD PLAYER WITHOUT ALREADY HAVING HIS REPLACEMENT! YES CB WILL BE ADDRESED, SO WILL TE AND ANOTHER OL. BUT ROSS,AND PHILBIN WANTS PLAYMAKERS ON OFFENSE AND PHILBIN BELIEVES IN GOOD DEPTH WITH HIS RECEIVERS. THERE WILL BE NO NEED TO TRADE UP OR DOWN UNLESS THE TARGET PLAYER IS THERE FOR THE TAKING!! OF ALL THE RECEIVERS WHY MEET WITH AUSTIN? BECAUSE THEY SAW HIM FIRST HAND AND THEY KNOW THAT HE COULD HELP IN MANY WAYS WHILE EVENTUALLY REPLACING BESS WITHOUT DOING IT THIS YEAR. IF A RECEIVER WAS INJURED IN GREEN BAY HIS OFFENSE DID NOT MISS A BEAT! WHY? BECAUSE HE HAD DEPTH AND GOOD RECEIVERS FROM 1-7. RIGHT NOW WHO RETURNS PUNTS FOR THE DOLPHINS ?? THIGPEN? THEY ARE NOT PLEASED WITH THAT PART OF HIS GAME? BESS? YES BUT HOW MANY TIMES HAVE YOU SEEN BESS BREAK A LONG PUNT RETURN ? YOU'RE RIGHT!! NEVER! I AGREE THERE ARE A TON OF RECEIVERS WE CAN GET LATER SO WHY EVEN MEET WITH AUSTIN ? WHY EVEN CONSIDER HIM WITH HIS SO CALLED SMALL SIZE? SIMPLE! BECAUSE HE WILL BE A MATCHUP NIGHTMARE FOR DEFENSES ON 3RD DOWN. WHAT DOES BESS DO BEST? HE MOVES THE CHAINS!! SO WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE? AUSTIN IS YOUNGER,FASTER, CAN HELP IN OTHER AREAS AND HE'S CHEAPER. IF BESS IS TRADED DOES'T THAT STILL GET YOU THE EXTRA PICKS YOU WANT IF YOU TRADED DOWN? NOW LOOK AT YOUR WR CORPS(WALLACE,HARTLINE,GIBSON,AUSTIN,KELLER, MILLER IN THE BACKFIELD) NOT TO MENTION ANY OF THE PLAYERS WHO MAY HAVE DEVELOPED FROM LAST YEAR. NOW YOU CAN MATCH ANY TEAM SCORING WISE AND YOUR DEFENSE IS ALREADY THE BEST IN THE REDZONE AND YOU NOW HAVE FASTER,YOUNGER LB. SOUNDS LIKE A PLAN TO ME!!

Suprised Pat White made a team again, even if it is just the practice squad. I remember his last football play, thought he was dead.
