Dolphins may have other veteran LT options

Branden Albert might not be the only left tackle available in a trade.

Because left tackles went at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 4 in the first round of the NFL Draft Thursday, one assumes that the left tackles already on Kansas City, Jacksonville and Philadelphia have been at least put on notice that someone is knocking on their door as a possible replacement.

We know the Chiefs would like to replace Albert. He's been on the trade block for a month now.

Well, are you aware the Jaguars and Eagles, which also picked left tackles Thursday, already had left tackles in place?

As ESPN's John Clayton notes, Jaguars left tackle Eugene Monroe is in the last year of his contract. Even though he might play the season at left tackle, it would seem unlikely the Jaguars would pay him big money after taking Luke Joeckel with the second overall pick.

Sooo ... Monroe might be available in trade.

In Philadelphia, where new coach Chip Kelly drafted Lane Johnson with the fourth overall selection, Jason Peters is coming off an injury and expected to return for 2013. Peters, a former Buffalo Bills left tackle, is scheduled to make $12.8 million a year but that club just made his long-term job security an issue.

Sooo ... Peters might be available in trade.

The point is, if general manager Jeff Ireland is as smart as, well, me, he'd be on the phone with both the Jaguars and Eagles today. He'd be trying to find out if either Monroe or Peters is available now. He'd be looking for LT options outside of simply trading for Branden Albert.

Maybe the mining expedition finds nuggets. That's all he needs.

Understand, if the Eagles or the Jaguars say either of their veteran left tackles is available, immediately the Chiefs lose (more) leverage in their attempt to trade Albert because now the market has multiple LTs available.

The Dolphins don't have to necessarily trade for the other available LT, but they have to present themselves as a team with more options today than they had yesterday at this time.

Those not liking the Jordan pick, be prepared to be smashed in the mouth by his play. Enjoy!

Ireland's Interview After The Pick

(On who specifically Dion Jordan reminds him of) - “I’d rather not get into those kinds of comparisons. I would just say that he reminds me of some players that I’ve been, I’ve had on teams that I’ve been on and let’s just keep it that way.”

(On how he would describe what type of player he can be) - “He’s just got a tremendous skill set. He’s very quick. He’s very agile. He’s got burst. He’s got change of direction. He’s got twitch, what we like to call, you know, initial quickness and twitch. He’s one of those guys that’s hard to knock off his feet. He can bend the corner. He can cover tight ends down the seam. He just has an array of skills that translates in the National Football League.”

(On whether he would consider using him at linebacker) - “Could be. I mean that’s what I like about him. He’s very versatile and he played linebacker there and he also rushed the passer so, when we get our hands on him and see where the best place he is, you know, where the best place he’ll fit and then that’s going to be up to the gentlemen to my left (Coach Philbin) to find out exactly what he does. We’ve got a great vision for him. Part of that’s going to be rushing the passer but the other parts up to him (Coach Philbin).”

(On whether Jordan started very high on the draft board or if he moved up later) - “He started that high. Sure did.”

(On if there were a lot of guys up there with him that they would have moved up for) - “There weren’t very many. No. Just a few.”

(On how high he had the offensive tackles rated) - “I’m not going to tell you my board (laughing(. We had them pretty high. They were well rated. Not surprised that they were one, two. Not surprised at all.”

(On his surprise over the lack of offensive skill players to be drafted in the first round) - “Quite frankly it didn’t surprise me too much. It came off fairly about what we thought to be honest with you. It’s kind of a unique draft but as you go through it and you start putting the board up, that’s kind of how we had it. So it’s not surprising at all.”

(On whether he is concerned about the amount of offensive linemen taken in the first round) – “Well we’ll have to see. If you follow the draft over the last three, four, five years, the tackles go fast. Offensive linemen go fast. I think back in 2007 or 2008 in think eight of them went in the first round. So I think over the last five years there are at least five that go in the first round. That trend, I don’t know what today was, but for offensive linemen I know there was at least five. That trend has certainly kept up for sure.”

(On what he thinks about his need at cornerback) – “What do I think about my need at cornerback? Well I don’t know that it is a huge need. I certainly would like to address the secondary at some point, but we’ll have to see how the draft goes.”

Lastly, budtki stop man. Left tackles don't throw or catch tds, they don't make tackles and they don't get ints. No one even knows most of the names of the tackles on the teams in the playoffs but I bet we could all name the playmakers. Tackles can be found. Oh yeah, we have one on the team who protected Andrew Luck for years. Now go and sign Winston to play right tackle and we are good to go. You're too focused on this tackle thing, you must have been a huge Parcells/Sparano <--I hate you and can't even remember how to spell your name!) fan. It's okay Budtki, take a breath and relax, things are actually looking good for a change.

Thanks for the link....did 6 miles on the tread mill this morning...and Sports Science was on ESPN 2...the THEME was this years draft class.....and it seemed they showed everybody during my run EXCEPT Jordan....

so again...thanks....

Well, then I guess it better be the honey badger at #54.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4r7wHMg5Yjg

We Have Playmakers,

I hear you and thought last night that I'd be happier if we make him stand up instead of put his hand on the ground but everything everyone said last night from them comparing him to JT and so fourth tells me they want to try him at DE.

Heck, even the Sports Science video had him with his hand in the 'dirt'.

We'll see what they do with him. I just hope his shoulder problem isn't something that keeps him out so long that this year is basically a wash for him. I'd like to see him play at least a pre-season game or two and see where he's at before the real bullets start flying.

Lets give them Dan carpenter and spitzer and a 7th

Ron Jaworski just praised us!!! LOL!!!

Thank God Ireland Is The GM. And Not 1 Of You Guys.

Thank God Ireland Understands The Meaning Of Prototype. And Doesn't Pick These Feel Good Stories.

A Midget WR.

A CB That Heart Burst.

A Slow TE From ND.

Thank God Ireland Pick The 6'7" OLB That Can Run A 4.5. That Reminds Him Of Players That Have Been On His Teams. Key Word Being Teams.

I'd be VERY surprised if the Niners don't take Ertz. We'd have to trade up with the Jaguars to get him & I don't see than happening. F@ck!!!

Mando: still waiting for reply as to what ever happenned with Clabo isn't he available?

Will he be hand in the ground on 1st down on is it a "rover type LB where he blitzes, covers, zone, etc and then on 3rd down is what he was brought into do.

Posted by: AndyNJ | April 26, 2013 at 03:10 PM
==============================================

I think he'll be used in all the ways you describe. He'll play the Rover/Wildcard on 3rd downs.

And I agree with you 200, 000%, he wasn't brought in for just "This" or just "That". I believe Coyle will design all kinds of schemes/wrinkles, etc, etc just to exploit and maximize his strengths and skills.

Ultimately, he brings SO MUCH MORE to the table than Misi or even a guy like Burnett. He can rush, drop into coverage, he can do it all and at a high level.

Jordan, almost alone, will make it so Coyle can change up his play calls, disguise things and hopefully frustrate the hell out of the Brady's and Bree's of the league.

The more I think about Jordan being a 3 down OLB, the more I LOVE it!

Valhalla!!!!

Mando Tweeted Out Earlier That A Dolphins Source Laughed At Him When He Mentioned If The Fins Plan To Draft T. Midget Ex CB From LSU.

Hey I don't get all the Eifert hype. Guy is solid, has decent hands, decent speed, runs avg routes and is an above avg blocker. Remind you of anyone else that played TE for the Miami Dolphins recently?????

odin,

how come the fins of DIDN'T THE WISDON IN YOUR POSTS FOR LAST FEW YEARS AND AVOID THE CELLAR .........

YOU R DREANING WHEN YOU SAY (( FRUSTRATE THE HELL OUT OF BRADY BREES ))..........

John,

Yeah we'll see about where they line him up but what I see is an extremely athletic & versatile OLB.

BTW--I don't think we would have traded up to take Jordan unless we felt he could contribute THIS year. He had shoulder surgery & hopefully it heals quickly.

Ireland and Dorsey taking a leak off a bridge. Ireland this water is cold.... Dorsey and deep too....

That is what this has become....

I POSTED THAT I WOULDNT BE SHOCKED TO SEE IRELAND GRAB HONEY BADGER WITH PICK 54. I BELIEVE BELLICHICK MAY GRAB HIM EARLY TOO.

To the guy who doesn't "read this Clowns stuff anymore" (Dashi).....but somehow finds ways to use my words....in almost all his stuff lately....

wether the words is....

Hypocrite

Back pedaling

or this time....prototypical....

but is ALL coincidence....he doesn't "read this Clown's stuff"....

prototypical can mean whatever you want it to mean Dashi....as long as you understand that it no longer has any MERIT in the FINS FO....and thus our players chosen....either drafted or brought in thru FA.....

My guess--Jordan is going to be an OLB.

JORDAN HAS ALREADY BEEN MEDICALLY CLEARED TO START TRAINING CAMP ON TIME.

SOME PEND SO MUCH TIME HERE BICKERING YOU NEVER HAVE CHANCE TO CATCH OUTSIDE NEWS. IT WAS STATED YESTERDAY JORDAN'S MEDICALLY CLEARED TO START CAMP ON TIME.

That's not what Ireland said, odin. DJ will be worked in gradually into the roster. It wasn't me, it was Ireland who said it. Go talk to him.(if he lets you near him).

Posted by: oscar canosa | April 26, 2013 at 03:10 PM
====================================================

They said he'll play both OLB and SOME 3rd down DE/Rush Specialist.

The later of which was referred to as "Worked In Gradually".

To be fair though Oscar, I don't have any inside sources or anything. I'm just reading up and listening to the same things as the rest of us.

Just offering up my own personal opinions. If it turns out I'm completely wrong(lol), you can crucify later ;)

The Dion Jordan pick is exactly what I thought would happen after seeing what Ireland did in FA.

He is drafting players to replace contracts that are up in a year or 2. He won't have money to resign alot of players due to his fa spending & Pouncey will be a priorioty in 2 years & Jones will be a priority next year.

I fully expect Miami to draft J. Banks from Miss State with it's 2nd round pick.

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1616944-johnthan-banks-scouting-report-nfl-outlook-for-the-mississippi-state-cb

Sounds like the protypical zone DB we need. Also allows us to axe Marshall or Patterson.

With the 2 3rd rounders, look for a guard to be selected(Incognito & Jerry next year FA) as well as DT (Soliai & Starks both FA)

Gotta run but good talking with you fellas.

Here's to a great tonight and tomorrow for our guys in aqua and orange (with a hint of navy blue)

"I fully expect Miami to draft J. Banks from Miss State with it's 2nd round pick."

LOL,

Not sure he's still there.

LOL,

I watched some Jonathan Banks highlights, not just the pass defense ones. Dude, he's another Sean Smith in run defense, he seems to shy away from tackles in many cases.

Im pretty sure Ireland isn't looking for the next ean Smith.

I freaked watching Jamar Taylor. He loves to stick his head in there in run defense. He doesn't shy away from tackles. Reminds me of Vontae in that sense. He isn't shabby in pas defense either. Would love to see Taylor at #54, if that what it takes to get him.

If Taylor isn't available and Honey badger is, I wouldn't be mad if Ireland pulled the trigger there either. Honey badger may even make a great fs, replacing Clemons. He's a ball magnet.

Seriously though, if available and we use our 2nd rd pick, I expect Ireland to go after cb Jamar Taylor. He's very good in coverage, a excellent tackler in the run game, and an excellent blitzer.

Posted by: Yesterday's Gone 4Ever! | April 26, 2013 at 03:11 PM
======================

I didn't know you were a Big Jamar Taylor Fan!

That's Kool, I thought/think he could possibly be the best CB in the draft-Period.

I know it's always hard to say just how good a guy will do at the NFL Level. But I think Taylor is as good as, if not better than ANY CB in this draft.

Milliner and Guys like Rhodes might be a little more experienced or developed at this point. But in my opinion, I believe Taylor will quickly develop into at least ONE the best in this entire draft.

With just a little bit of NFL Coaching and a Training Camp, he'll be READY!

If anyone thinks dynamite comes in small packages with Tavon Austin. Then on the defensive side of the ball, you should be thinking the same thing about the honey badger.

2 straight years in the SEC he proved he plays bigger than his size in both the run and pass game. There's a position for him somewhere in our defensive backfield.

So Klown, (When I'm Referring To You I Will Use Clown With A "K")

You Think You Are The Only One Who Keeps Saying Ireland Doesn't Want Prototype Players.

A Group Of People Have Said Get A Little WR, Get A Slow TE.

My Bad I Have Taken So Long To Post From This Morning.

I Didn't Know Dashi's Universe Revolved Around You.

So By Saying D. Jordan Is Going To Play OLB Not DE. I'm Also Responding To You.

Stop Being So Childish Klown.

Like Dashi Said, After Exposing You, The Very Next Day I Was Already On Another Page.

Dashi Is Like Time. I Live In The Present.

But Keep Bringing Up Old Arguments. Klown.

Posted by: Dashi | April 26, 2013 at 04:29 PM

Hmmm... who knows, it would be a huge surprise for sure. This sounds pretty discouraging for fans wanting it to happen anyways.

I'm rooting for Darius Slay on my part but he could be gone by #54. I think Taylor, Amerson and Alford are all worthy alternatives too.

If we pick a CB at #54, that is.

OK,

The Draft Is Almost Upon Us.

Dashi Has The Fins Taking E. Lacy. If Not O-Line Or FS. With CB and WR As Secondary Possibilities.

Trade Up?

Trade Down?

These 2 Rounds. Make Or Break Ireland. Yesterday Was Nice. Today Should Be Even Better.

YG, the article I copied states he engages in run support & sets the edge which is key for a Cb to do in his run responsibilities.

Adsmittedly, I am no expert & know very litle of all these players.

I haven't seen alot of highlights but, he was highly regarded as 1st round prospect until he ran a slightly disappointing 40 time. 40 times are almost meaningless for a zone CB.

You're more concerned about his wingsan to be able to knock balls down because he'll be trailing. His wingspan is ridiculous.

Based on what I've read, he's the perfect fit for the scheme that we are rumored to want to run. That'll be my prediction as well as 1 Guard & 1 DT.

Tomorrow I'd expect us to draft a RB, FS & OT, all developmental types.

Most welcome. I'm tired of the verbal melee in here, so I've tried to stay away. But once in a while I'll pop in when i can't stand not to open my big fat mouth. :)
For the record I like the Jordan pick. I wish it didn't cost picks, and I would've been ecstatic with JJones, but Jordan is a serious chance at being a superstar. Superbust, or superstar possibilities. Ballsy, and I didn't give Ireland credit to try it. So so far.. I'm on board.
We could've gone LT. But LT won't beat Brady. Jordan and Wake combo has a shot. And to get anywhere in our division, gotta beat Brady. There are LT options as Mando said (or maybe RT as I've said, and make Martin LT), so I think we'll start camp with a fully sufficient line.

Klown with a K......and i'm the one being childish.....

Have you noticed Dashi.....that in ALL these days of handing you you're @SS....I haven't ONCE called you anything but Dashi....its what I do....its how I carry myself......its who I am......

But you..,,well...you continue to show us who you are.....

and BTW....I have NO DOUBT you have been here all day....just under your MANY...MANY names....you are one of the guys that NEVER leave.....you POST MOST WEEKENDS ALL DAY....and are routinely posting on WEEK DAYS till after MID-NIGHT.....so save your fairy tale of you have a LIFE for another blog....

this one is DATE TIME STAMPED....

I'm hoping taylor amerson or Matthieu if they don't trade up for Ertz

Ireland....."Lets Me".....Pfssssssssssssssssssspt.....

I have VARIOUS Photos(Enlarged and Expensively Framed) of Don Shula My Sons and I Shaking Hands, Posing and doing the Man Hug!

I carry myself well. At times I may appear a bit crass and intimidating, but I can also be quite Polite and Accommodating.

I let the People I encounter determine the way they're treated(Do as to others, as you would Blah-Blah).

Coach Shula was nothing, if not a Complete Gentleman. Totally Polite and Gladly met and welcomed My Sons, My Girlfriend and I-LOL. Even posed for a few VERY QUICK photos(Memories my Kids will never forget).

"If Ireland would **LET** me near **HIM**.........?

Valhalla Oscar and I hope you're enjoying the Draft!!!!

kris,

CAN YOU PLEASE STOP WRITING LIKE ME AND HAVE SOME SHAME AND SOME THING OF YOUR OWN .................

Hydrashock,

That Is What My Prototypical Comments Came From. The D. Jordan Draft Interview. And The Tweet Mando Posted.

If The Only Thing The FO Said About T. Midget was 'LOL'.

Now Watch The Klown Say I Just Back Pedaled. Dashi Can't Have A Regular Conversation.

How Many People Said Draft T. Mathieu Today?

Or Draft S. Bailey?

But This Klown Thinks Dashi Only Comes Here To Insult His Opinion.

Aloco.....

lol....OK....you caught me in a good mood today....

I gotta admit I'm still on the fence on the Jordan pick.

Even though I was thinking it could be a possibility way back when Ireland said he was looking for core players and impact with the first pick.

At the time I was thinking that Jordan was the only non OT that fit that scenario.

When i looked at Jordan though I couldn't get past the 240lb thing. I was hoping for one of the bigger 270 /280 lb type DE's like Moore or Okafor.

On the surface this is not a Ireland protypical type pick but then again its all about Jordans measurables and not so much about production which does worry me.

Hopefully some of you guys are right and he's going to play OLB.

Maybe he will end up like JT and just go wide open after the qb.

Kris,

Who Cares?

Seriously!!

Handing Dashi His Ass... Seriously!!

Who Cared?

Get Off Your Little Fantasy Land. Dashi Is Dashi.

And Name 1 Alleged Name I Used Today Other Than Dashi.

And Everyone Is Tired Of That Troll Argument. They Were Mocking It The Other Day.

And Dashi Has Been Trolled Hard The Last Couple Days. You Want To Admit To Something.

Fragel or queasy berry in 3rd might work

Get all the D you want. Won't matter if you can't score pts. We need a cb....we also need another wr...te and rb. Don't know when they will be selected but I will be laughing at this offense all season when Hartline and Gibson are being covered up even with Wallace on the field. All explosive plays in the passing game made by Wallace and no one else.

JS....

I understand.....i really do....

still glad you dropped in for a minute to post that link.....they say Jordan's SPIN MOVE is considerbly faster than that of D, Freeny....

Freeny LIVED of off the SPIN CYCLE....if Jordan can do the same....Ireland will be GM for life.....

Stra8balla,

In all of the years Ive seen you here, Ive yet to see you like anything the Dolphins do, good or bad.

What's up with that? LOL...

you guys are missing the most obvious comparison to Jordan. Aldon Smith. coming out of college aldon smith was a skinny, fast, playmaker on the edge, just like dion jordan. I dont know how they do it (steroids), but they bulk these guys up when they get into the league. Jordan is gonna be a goddam animal opposite Wake. I love the move. You cant teach speed and athleticism and this guy has both. I love it.

Anybody who wanted lane johnson by the way, is an idiot. you can pick up offensive lineup in the 3rd and 4th rounds. We are in a west coast system so the ball comes out quick anyway. playmakers win games you morons, and thats what we got with the 3rd pick.

Stop Being So Childish Klown.

Some may not like my post or opinions....but they will ALWAYS come from the sign-in name Kris (which has been IMPOSTERED over the past few days).....

coincidence....I think not....

I would like nothing better to talk JUST football...and the occasional CONGRATS on other bloggers good fortunes....

but I will not allow you to ruin the name that I worked hard to establish over the past few years....

you may not like the sign-in name Kris....and what I have to say....but its mine....I will NEVER post under anything different....and I will face the music...or confront YOU or anyone else with those 4 letters...I told you....my name (word) means alot to me.....

kris,
There's talk from some "experts" that Jordan lack of overall production at Oregon had something to do with the scheme he was used in. perhaps.
the good news he can actually cover passes, and drop into coverage, chase down RBs, and slot guys. All things they had JTaylor doing once in a while. He moves crazy smooth for a big man, and does have all the skills you'd want in a DE, and even an OLB to a degree. Question is what happens when he meets a coach who wants to turn him into a fulltime DE (what I assume they are doing), and has new information to give him?
Soon find out. It wasn't the overall safest pick (I hate safe picks), but he's as solid as anyone there is in the first round. Only flaw? His weight.
I'm pretty sure he can find some sandwiches, and spend some time in the Fins weight room for that.

dashi you really are a filthy disgusting blogger.

Who are you to call anyone out? Does your family know you hang out on blogs talking such vile adolescent crap? Are you proud? I guess to you pride is a 18 letter word, incomprehensible.

kris,

i support you and yourGOOD NAME.UNLIKR DASHI,YOU SIGN IN BLUE AND HE SIGN WITH MANY NAMES ....

YG4, you are right about stra8baller. He has never posted anything positive in this blog. He is either a Madden GM, a Troll or just a miserable person who believes he is never ever wrong. Guy should move on and play with dolls or something, he can order them around and be the boss

JS....

I have to be completely honest....I don't watch college football....so I really don't have enough background information to even competently comment on Deion Jordan the College player....

I just wanted a GAME CHANGER on O...or D....and from what I have seen...looks like Ireland found a guy that has that potential...and I like it....

I didn't want a LT...and Sean SMith has turned me off of CB for a while....I hope Ireland can restore my faith in our CBs being able to cover.....but then again...if Jordan is worth the #3 pick...he will make the CB look better with his pressure...

I like the pick....i'm in Ireland's corner this season....

Not a madden GM ...just some one who played college ball. Not non-athletic couch potato on the opposite end of these posts who played h.s. baseball or golf.

What I do like...Tannehill has potential but needs to improve his accuracy.

I love the Wallace addition but am of the school of thought that u need two wrs who can uncover underneath or be a deep target...ala Atl.

Dline is in good shape....lb have been upgraded...punter is one of the best in the league.

DO NOT TRADE FOR ALBERT. IT WILL BE THE BIGGEST MISTAKE.

NO WELFARE FOR THE 4.4 BILLION DOLLAR MAN

jordan reminds them of JT? Didnt they get rid of JT?

The offense is pathetic especially without Long and Bush. And is the FO content with the 29th ranked QB? WTF?

New blog page up folks...
