Dolphins trade up to pick Dion Jordan

The Dolphins just traded up from the No. 12 overall pick to the No. 3 overall pick to draft defensive end Dion Jordan.

The Dolphins think Jordan a latter day Jason Taylor.

The club gave up the No. 12 pick for Oakland's No. 3 and added the No. 42 overall pick -- the higher of Miami's second rounder. Bargain!

"I'm going to bring tremendous athletic ability," Jordan said.

Jordan is one month into a three-to-four month recovery from shoulder surgery. He might not be ready for the start of training camp in July. The Dolphins expect he'll be ready for the start of the season.

Dion Jordan is a Playmaker. He is very athletic.

In the new NFL #1 is QB, WR and PASS RUSHERS. Ireland and a lot of people understand this.

Wake + Jordan = What we need in defense.

LOVE IT!!!

LOL, good point at 9:24PM...

bobbyd i have one question, when will you go away forever?

The presence of Dion Jordan is going to make Wake even more dangerous next season. No one is going to stop our pass rush this year .

LOL, don't think it says anything about Odrick and Vernon other than there are now 2 players on the edges to fear that will make Odrick/Vernon's jobs much easier. Hunt the QB, that's what this says. Don't tool up your DBs and put pressure on them (like old Dolphins philosophy), PRESSURE THE QB AND FORCE HIM TO MAKE A MISTAKE.

To me, this says Ellerbe will have a bunch of sacks this year.

I bet the Wets will pick Geno Smith and continue their long tradition of crappy drafts.

I agree with the pick. This is not a guard type pick. A pass rusher can improve your entire defense. A great pass rush can cover up deficiencies in the secondary. Of course this is assuming that Ireland is right and that Jordan can be the next Von Miller that can complement Wake.

BTW- Lets look at the draft now and let's see what would have been available at 12. The 3 tackles are gone, Cooper , and Warmack gone, Ansah gone, Austin and Flucker gone. What would we have taken? It looks to me like Ireland was right to go up. There are no more impact players left at 12. Jordan was projected as one of the elite players in this draft and projected as high as #2 in a lot of mocks.

I don't see Odrick out. He brings flexibility to the DLine. He can play DE on 1st down and likely second to help with stuffing the run. Then slide him to DT for 3rd down.

Odrick, Starks, Wake and Sanders rushing the QB on 3rd down. I smell fear in the QB's pants this year.

dusty, you may be dumber than a crow's aszhole. are you craig m's cousin?

We r in the drivers site. 2nd rd we pick BPA again or trade for Albert if we do not
get a OT we simply get 1 of those OT STILL aval in FA:). U c the options unreal how this off-season has gone for us. We will get a CB, OT, TE, and RB in this draft or FA.

Posters who think Jordan will be an outside backer in our scheme, and that Misi will move back to DE do not understand what a 4-3 defensive scheme is.
I am beside my self. I had all these hopes after a really good free agency period. But somehow I just had this feeling Ireland would blow it. He just ruined our whole draft with this bone headed, steeped in panic move.

I have to think they evaluated the shoulder and are fine with it.

No doubt that the single person who hates this pick the most has to be . . . . .Tom Brady

Between Wake and Jordan his life just got much harder.

Reminiscent of the NY Giants a couple of years ago when they could consistently get a good pass rush without needing to blitz. The one who will have to raise his game now is Vernon.

I'm not worried about the OL. Remember that Martin was a second rounder in a draft much thinner in offensive linemen. We can get a RT or two and can probably move up our second round pick. Ditto a CB.

YG/FLIPPER/YG4L/LOL, TELL US HOW YOU FEEL ABOUT THE PICK?///

AND TOMMARROW ILL ASK SAME QUESTION AND YOU"LL FLIP/FLOP./

CORNBEEF COACH

THE MACHANIC

THE SHOULDER

THE CELLAR.

Armando played you guys. He appears to say hi to keep you hitting his blog, and then goes away. He yoyo's you all like the troll yoyo's dahsOdy.

DC,

With Keller, Ellerbe, Vernon, Wakem and Jordan teams aren't going to know where the hell the pressures comibg from.

My money says Dion Jordan is our new OLB, replacing Misi.

It takes true genius to get the third pick at a good "price" and still make a bogus, laughable selection.

How the mighty have fallen. A once proud franchise reduced to a laughingstock.

FIRE JEFF NOW!!!

Word is that Jordan will sit out this season to bulk up and repair the shoulder. So we will see how he does in 2014! Hope he was worth it!

The stupid thing is they could have stayed put at 12 and gotten Jordan or likely traded down and got him??!! Why the big move for someone not on anyone's radar? Jeffy got a little too excited??!!

This Was A Core Player Pick.

And One Of Ireland's Strength Is Drafting D-Line. Even His Haters Know This.

So, here we go at 12:

Eifert is there...could have filled our TE need.

Sharrif Floyd and Star there...could have brought in young replacement for Starks or Solai

Vaccaro is there....could have dumped Clemons

Rhodes, Trufant and Hayden are there....could have filled our CB need

That is a lot of starters passed on and we lost our #42 overall.

If Jordan doesn't have > 10 sacks I am going to call it a bad move (I think many will)

But I hope I am declaring it an Ireland VICTORY! Go Fins!!!

Everyone comparing him to v ghoslton. Better not be. Bad pick

What is this crap ppl are saying about only giving up a second round pick? The first 64 players are where your draft money is made. The rest of the draft is acorns.

READ THIS:
4/24/13: Jordan's stock has continued to rise in the lead up to the 2013 NFL Draft to the point that he is a consensus projection to be a top-five pick. Jordan could add enough weight to play defensive end in the NFL, or he could maintain in the 250s and still play outside linebacker.

Jordan notched 44 tackles, 10.5 tackles for a loss, three forced fumbles and five sacks this season. His pass-rushing opportunities were hurt because the Ducks often dropped him back into pass coverage.
Jordan plays well in space and would definitely fit as a 3-4 outside linebacker in the NFL, but he is so fast and athletic he could play outside linebacker in a 4-3 defense.
BYE-BYE KOA MISI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jordan is viewed by most draft analyst as one of the eight elite players in the 2013 draft, and he's one of the few pass rushers that fit Miami's prototype.

He possesses a sudden first step, is highly athletic, and is considered one of the draft's most versatile pass rushers.

However, he's battled a shoulder injury as a senior and the injury was surgically repaired this offseason

If you don't like the pick then you don't understand what it takes to win the AFC east. We have to go through brady, and history has proven that the best way to best him is to apply pressure, wake and the best pass rusher in the draft is excellent foresight

Best pass rusher on every mock I've seen... Jordan..... Speed, moves, athletic ability and huge upside.... Op Wake= sacks, pressure someting we lacked big time last yr.

Armando,

How far do you think HAYDEN will drop?

Do you think Fins will trade in to the bottom of 1st round to get him or Cyprien?

I love to say it so take this one right on the chin trolls. Ireland absolutely stole Jordan for only the #42 pick. That's fantastic maneuvering in the draft. The Chiefs can eat dirt. I didn't really want Albert that bad..give me Winston or Clabo and save the draft picks.

The Raiders still get the player they wanted.

THE FINS ARE A JOKE

There is your answer NPA....

Posting utter nonsense will not sway people to believe your ignorance laced posts.

Saying Jordan was on no one's radar is like saying you are smart. It's just false.

Now, if you watch closely, these announcers know which Player is coming up. This is all rigged. Now, in favor of whom?

MANDO CALLED IT: HAYDEN AT 12

Only Jet Fans Want To Compare Him To V. Gholston.

Pick is horrible, ruined my offseason.

Thanks for the info YG4E. Good to know.

Armando,

HAYDEN goes with Fins #12.

Do you think Fins will trade in to the bottom of 1st round to get Cyprien or some other CB?

To all the troll bashers.

Have you noticed how all of a sudden on draft night a zillion new names appear?

They are the same bloggers you banter with day in and day out!

Moral of the story? 9 out of 10 bloggers here are trolls!

Excellent trade. I was worried at first, but they got a bargain

Well..., one thing is for sure, if this guy Jordan do not explode from the very beginning, Ireland will be behind the counter in a Wendy's prearing hamburgers in October. So, all the mock draft strategies for the dolphins go the gutter. No nobody knows now if the 2nd pick will be a LT, a TE, a CB, or a kicker maybe. Unless they trade Bess for another 2nd rnd.
Well Mr. Ireland, you're one more time moving in a very very thin line. Maybe you won't be in this organization after week 4 in 2013 season. I really hope so, regardless Jordan performance.

If the trade had not happened then the WORST we would have done is Hayden and we'd still have 42.

What a bummer. From the highs of Mike Walace & the early days of FA to the absolute boring dull Jordan pick.

We still hav 3 picks toomorrow. A 2nd and 2 3rds. I c BPA regardless of position. Value over need (position).

My prediction JETS get Eifert or Geno Smith.

Great pick, wake and Jordan on both edges in a pass happy AFC East. Plenty if corners available in 2nd

The Dolphins could have landed DJ Hayden, instead. This is sad,...., one more time.

jordan hits brady, brady fumbles, jordan could goooo allll theeee wayyyyy, Touchdown Miami!

Don't get all the hate. This is a no brainer. What, you wanted Miami to take another guard or tackle? Come on! This is a bold, refreshing move for this front office. Will it work? Who knows, but I love the aggressiveness and decisiveness to go up and get the YOU WANT

Posted by: Anderson | April 25, 2013 at 09:40 PM

exactly why I keep telling everyone Dion Jordan is our new olb, not DE.

BYE_BYE KOA MISI!!!!

I expect Misi to be traded before the end of the draft. Expect it!

I do too!

There is no such thing as a "sure thing" in any draft, including 1st rd picks and including top 5 picks.

BTW - been to Montreal many times. Love it!

MJZ, I hope you're right...

Ireland's strength is drafting DL? Are you including Ordrick in that? Merling? All the other DL's who amount to just being backups?
I see posters saying Jordan is fast. 4.75 is fast? Chrissakes that is what Bjoern Werner runs and he's not considered fast.
Posters say he is a great pass rusher? 5 sacks his senior year and only 14.5 sacks his whole college career? That's less than 4 sacks a year.
Werner had 13 sacks just last year and 23.5 in THREE years.
What are you posters smoking??
Grade: F as in get Ireland Freakin outta here.
I don't care

No Denying,

I Will Say 8 Out Of 10.

Now you definitely trade pick 54 for Albert. Not going to find a better player at 54 then him.

Gonna suck if jets get millner and eeifert. Imagine if we did tbat

If we trade our other 2nd Rd pick for Albert then we won't pick again until the 3rd, wouldn't we?

From Newsday:
http://www.newsday.com/sports/football/giants/next-giants-pass-rusher-could-be-bjoern-werner-1.5133366

"Since I'm here in America you always hear about the Giants' D-line," the German-born defensive end from Florida State said Wednesday at an NFL Play60 event in Manhattan. "They have great depth. Osi Umenyiora, Justin Tuck, Jason Pierre-Paul. They're good players . . . I hear a lot about it."

That legacy goes beyond just the half-decade that Werner has been paying attention. The Giants have long been built around their defense and, particularly in recent years, around pass-rushing defensive ends. They've drafted at that position even when they didn't seem to need to, such as in 2006 when they took Mathias Kiwanuka in the first round. So it would seem that facing a season in which they have already lost Umenyiora to free agency and coming off a year in which they saw decreased production in quarterback sacks, the Giants might be apt to revert to one of the most basic tenets of their success: You can never have enough pass rushers.
