It's a UF day for the Dolphins, Carpenter on notice

The Dolphins have drafted three University of Florida players today, the latest running back Mike Gillislee and kicker Caleb Sturgis were drafted in the fifth round.

Two things:

Dan Carpenter, who struggled through the middle of the 2012 season, is officially on notice that Miami isn't afraid to replace him.

"Coming into the league you know you have to compete against the best," Sturgis said. "I've seen him kick and he's got a great leg. It'll definitely be fun competing against him."

Despite the slump and finishing the year on injured reserve, Carpenter did connect on 16 of his final 17 kicks before getting hurt.

Gillislee, meanwhile, was a rotational running back at Florida. He rushed for 1,152 yards while averaging 4.7 yards per carry.

The happiest guy on the Dolphins?

Center Mike Pouncey, a Florida guy who predicted the Dolphins would pick three Gators player"s.

Wow that's crazy I can't believe I just predicted that" Pouncey tweeted. "I will be handing out gator shirts to all my teammates this coming up week."

The addition of Gillislee puts Daniel Thomas and Lamar Miller on notice. Considered the favorites to win the starting job and then split carries, both now have another player that is a legitimate player who can possibly catch the ball as well as they can.

"I'm just ready to compete," Gillislee said.

thats good work at 4:05 dashi.....and Sims is basically a starter in a 2 TE set......Gillislee can play too

You could surround Tannehill with an all star team and it wouldnt help. We heard the exact same nonsense about getting weapons for Henne. So we brought in Jake Long, Brandon Marshall, Reggie Bush and Mike Pouncey. How'd that work out?

Only thing that can save Ireland's assss is if Philbin does a magnificent job of Coaching and developing Players because, frankly, this Draft sukkked big dikkk.

And Then The Gators.

But Keep Spewing Your Ignorance.

D will be improved. Running game will be better.....passing game will still rank in the 20's league wide and that is why the Fins will miss the playoffs once again.

I'm surprised Gillislee was still on the board. He made 1st downs happen. If he plays pro anything like college, he will do more than Bush did for us.

Even if Ireland got 3-4 starters HE LOST 12!!! WTF???
Expansion team!

Sigh, its okay. You can come out of whatever teams closet you are hiding in and admit you are insanely jealous of the Dolphins and wish your team could make even a fragment of the splash the Dolphins did in the offseason.

I like Ray Polk for safety

a 7th rd safety is practice squad material or special teamer.

I say maybe a kick returner is the final pick. Or Xavier Nixon OT?

Why can't you be positive for a change?

It's not like I've been critical of you or of any other poster on this board.

If you don't like my posts, just ignore them and be happy with your own posts.

Dashi, you mean like the Gators are going to smack the Hurricanes right in the mouth in September? There's a reason 8 Gators have been drafted and the first Cane came off the board in the 5th round.

Would like to see us grab Furstenburg the Maryland TE with the late round pick, good pass catcher, undervalued because they had a LB playing QB last 7 games. Better receiver than Sims. Gives us double TE backup if Keller is hurt and is on 1yr deal anyway. Ditch egnew

Weren't you the guy caught buying crack in Pork and Bean projects?

lol. If you knew anything about that place, you'd know that nobody gets arrested for dealing drugs there.

Gators in S Fla? Ross/Ireland are crap at PR.

Maybe Zach Boren for fb

Also the fans in South Florida may be loyal to the Canes, but the star recruits are going to UF and FSU. Just check out the recruiting websites.

IRELAND WLL BE FIRED if Tannehill can't deliver a 9-7 or better record.

Jay at 4:23 -- good post and good memory too.

Oscar at 4:24 -- agreed.

dlh265 at 4:26 -- funny.

YG4E - I actually think a good kick returner would be an excellent pick.

Yo Ross, Canes fans are not going to buy tickets to see Gators.

Irescum should've been fired 4 years ago...

Bill M,

Furstenburg might be a good consideration -- agreed.

Canes fans don't even buy tickets to watch the Canes

UM lost the Miami recruits when they hired that wuss new President. I personally know that they lost 2014 Heisman hopeful qb, Teddy Bridgewater, when the fired Shannon.

Bridewater(Miami Northwestern High) was committed to UM, then switched to Louisville when Shannon was fired. Shannon recruited Teddy Bridgewater. Had Shannon not been fired,

Teddy Bridgewater would be the Canes starting qb right now today. I not talking something I read or heard, Im talking something I personally know.

Thats because Sun Life stadium wreaks of urine and the food vendors have been cited a zillion times by the Board of Health.

Ross honoring our opponent Tebow alienated lots of fans.

Anyone who posts that Jeff Ireland is a clueless idiot who just blew another draft simply does not understand or appreciate true genius.

Shannon was a horrible coach . Worst UM coach ever.

Yeah, but, had the Canes kept Shannon 1 more season, Teddy Bridgewater would be their starting qb today. That's a fact.

You would think that the trolls would be on one of the Jet's blogs discussing which one of New York's 6 Quarterbacks would be starting, but...nooo, they're here trying to get a rise out of the Dolphin fans! Ignore them...they're just looking for attention...

Ross will be buying boatloads of his own tickets AGAIN. LOL

Actually COKER was UM worst coach.. Anyway what type of running style is Gillesse is he a shake and bake guy or does he run ppl over what are his strengths and weaknesses

Northwestern High Bulls, Go Tedddy!!!!!!!!!!!

this is pro football boys.....rooting for your pro team....move on

'Canes Mike James just went to the Bucs!

Ron Son, and you will be sitting at home playing with yourself, AGAIN LOL

Gillislee is very fast and has very good sight and elusiveness. He's a very decisive runner, not a dancer. He has tackle breaking ability and a good stiff arm.

But don't expect to see him run over people. He's very quick to the hole. 0 percent hesitancy.

Coker won championships. Shannon never came close.

Hell, what do you mean? Miami Northwestern was the best pro team in Miami. Ask any Miami native. LOL...

Ron Son, and you will be sitting at home playing with yourself, AGAIN LOL

Its better then watching a Dullfin game. LOL

Coker took over a national championship team. Don't get it twisted. LOL...

Canes begin to fall as soon as Coker's recruits became starters. LOL...

YG thanks, I'm concerned about not adding a red zone talent for Tannehill seem like the TE we drafted is just a blocking slow TE, seems like last year between the 20s we struggled to get in the end zone also Thomas was a wasted pick

Shannon loved Jacory Harris,,,who stunk LOL

Coker was the OC of the championship team but was horrible as a coach

Miami-Dade county produces the most blue chip players in the country.

Regretfully, the Hurricanes coaching staff hasn't done well at recruiting them.

Ron Son, then why here jerkoff?
Just to prove to everyone your are an ass
....hole with no life??

Take a chance on ray ray Armstrong ?

Coker has led the Hurricanes to one national championship, two Bowl Championship Series title game appearances, three BCS bowl game appearances, five bowl games, three consecutive Big East Conference championships, and a remarkable 53-9 record in five seasons as the Hurricanes head coach. Simply put, Coker has met the challenge of exceedingly high expectations.

John @4:20PM, though I agree with your sentiment, I have to laugh at this quote: "Your witt an intalect just floor us." (John)

Coker was a great coach

Rob M said:

"And the Dolphins picked the wrong Florida school. Gimme Brandon Jenkins, Chris Thompson, and Dustin Hopkins over Jelani Jenkins, Mike Gillislee, and Caleb Sturgis ANY DAY! Ugh....not a great draft. Gotta get Brandon Albert somehow to at least bring some form of stability. Zero day one impact players from this draft. Zero."

Wow! Strong statement. All I wonder is how the Dolphins brass did not find you and bring you onboard to help in the warroom. I mean, with your countless hours of watching game tape, attending workouts, games, the combine, etc. they should have known you were way better prepared than they were. Amazing really, that you slipped through the cracks!

We could have taken Lacy at 12 and not wasted a #3 pick on an injured player with no defined position.

Read my post above. The Dolphins front office just slipped up by not bringing Rob M onboard to save our draft and our future. Jeez, what were they thinking?

Mike give us a favor and go eat a d I c k

I am here to open your eyes on the incompetence of the Dolphin FO and to laugh at the Arena caliber team.

Al Goldon has turned this program around. When they whip Gator ass in September, like they always do, the Gators will want to go back to playing North-West Tennessee next year so they can pad their cushy schedule.

On what percent he dropped into coverage at Florida) – “About 60 percent. They always had me all over the place. Sometimes, they had me playing safety. So I was all over the place.”

"Thomas was a wasted pick"
