Lemonier among last of private visits Dolphins will host

Today is the final day NFL teams are allowed to bring in prospects for private visits. The Dolphins are taking advantage of this by hosting Auburn defensive end Corey Lemonier, a Miami native, whose statistics the past two years are impressive.

The visit, first reported by CBSports.com, began Tuesday evening with dinner.

Lemonier (pronounced Lemon - wah) had a great 2011 season but fell off somewhat in 2012. He recorded 9.5 sacks in '11 but that production dropped to 5.5 in '12. If he'd transposed that production he'd be projected a much higher pick than he currently is. He'd perhaps be a bottom of the first round prospect instead of being considered a second round or third round pick.

It's interesting that Lemonier, playing in the very competitive SEC, still had more sacks than BYU's Ezekiel Ansah (4.5)  and Oregon's Dion Jordan (5.0) last year. Ansah and Jordan are considered high first round selections.

Lemonier also ran the fastest 40 time at the combine when he covered the distance at 4.60 while carrying 255 pounds on his 6-3 frame.

The Dolphins, as you know, are winding down their draft meetings now. And as that is happening, I'm told the club is still trying to identify a couple or three players it truly loves at No. 12 overall where it is scheduled to select in the coming first round.

Lane Johnson? Like. Not love. (By the way, I've consistently reported that GM Jeff Ireland has some concerns about Johnson. I've been told he's not sure about Johnson at No. 12. And he's going to move up to get Johnson? I find that hard to believe . Something significant would have to change).

Tavon Austin? Like. Not love.

Xavier Rhodes? Not even a lot of like.

You know what I see?

I see a team that seems more likely to try and move out of No. 12 than not. And unless the move is to go up to try to land perhaps Eric Fisher, I'm thinking the attempted move will more likely to be down rather than the much-speculated trade up.

Great Post Mando.

Way More Interesting Than Talking about Getting A 3-4NT at #12.

I Heard The Only Tackle The Fins Are Interested In Is L.Jockel. Not Even E.Fisher.

Mortensen Said So Himself.

And That Drafting T.Austin Is Only A Smoke Screen.

The Fins Were The Ones Who Ran E.Lacy's Workout. So Don't Be Surprised If They Pick Him At #12.

And I've Also Heard The Fins Are Happy With The TE Situation As Is. They Feel Keller, Egnew, and Clay Can Stretch The Field Better Than Any Of These TE's.

I like Lemonier. Good athelticism and track record. May be a case of buying low as he fell off a bit last year. 3rd-4th round - can't go wrong. Although he has an interesting take on his name - it's a French name and we have a lot of French people around here and that name would be pronounced Laymon-yay ... but anyways...

Dashi, how is Star a 3-4 NT as 311 pounds? Come on man, I expect that sheet from others here but not you. Guy can play - period.

“Another type of player like Reggie (Bush). Me and him would probably be twins back there,” Austin said.

Yeah, I Want Another Reggie Bush On My Team. I Know Some Of You Would Clamor To Have Reggie Back. But I Don't Want A RB That Dances Away 1k Yards A Season. You are Allowed 1 Cut or Juke In The NFL. Dancing Is Not Allowed In The NFL!!

Reggie Underachieved His Whole Career. T.Austin Is To Small To Last In The NFL as an Underachiever.

That Juke And Juke Style Doesn't Work In The NFL.

Peter Warrick!!

This Guy Was Suppose To Tear Up The NFL!! That Juking almost Got Him Killed In The NFL.

Barry Sanders Was Special. Nobody Will Ever Be Like Him. He Made The NFL Look Like A Playground. And Barry Didn't Stand And Dance. He Will Run And Cut On A Dime. Even When He Would Change Direction of The Whole Field.

Reggie stops And Dances. If T.Austin Wants To Be Reggie's Twin. I Feel Bad For Him. Because He Will Get Baptized Like Pat White. Hit Him So Hard He Would See The Light.

Lane Johnson NO!! Xavier Rhodes NO!! I am happy every time Armando writes it.

I read your column Armando. Good link. But why is it no one is talking about Tyler Eifert to the Fins at No. 12?

If they don't love Johnson, Austin and others, why not address TE? It is a position that worries me because Keller is one dimensional and coming off injuries and everyone else behind him (Egnew or Clay) are either clueless or worthless.

Here's a couple of draft trades that would be interesting for Miami.

1. Dallas is at 18 and they are in love with Cooper and Vaccarro. They will get neither of them at 18. Dallas moves to 12 and gives up their 80th in the 3rd and a later round selection to make up the points difference. Dallas Selects Cooper or Vaccarro and Miami at 18 selects Eifert.

2. We see and know that the Pats are wanting Jamar Taylor at 29. We also want Taylor so we trade up to pick 26, 27 or 28 to snatch him away from the Pats and get our guy. We give up 1 of the 3rd round picks plus pick 42 to move back into the first round.

Or we just keep all 3 3rd round picks. BUT I do love snagging someone the Pats may be targeting at 29 and a big need and fit for us.

..E Lacy @ 12??? Your right, I would be surprised. I don't think he is a top 20 pick. In fact I will wager that Lacy goes in the second round before he goes to a team before 20.

..I don't know if this takes Rhodes off the board. If it takes Lane Johnson off the board(If you believe everything that is written or said this time of year..Well that is on you)...I'll just assume for the sake of the debate it does. So we mark 2 guys off the list. Now what?

Yesterdays flavor of the day was Star Lotulelei. I think this is as much smokesceeen as valid. Sure the Phins think he is a good player..(they are all good players) But I just don't see us taking a DT.

..Guard? Perhaps. But a guard at 12? I'm not sure that has happened more then once in the last 15 years of the draft. You are going to convince me that the 2 guys in this draft are better then any guard in the last 15 years??? Ok.

TE...No way. That simple. What does this accomplish?? IMO Eifert is an ordinary prospect. Totally unimpressive to watch, and IMO does not pop off the screen in watching the available video. I think people are in love with the idea of the tight end more then really looking at the prospect with open eyes...@ 12???? Sorry but I'm passing.

So where does that leave us? Mingo? Is he on the radar. A trade? A trade back brings into play some of the guys that don't come into play at 12. I have no idea...Stumped. Seriously. I feel like the no police. like a hall monitor. But I can't get my support behind any of these guys..All of them make some sense in some way, but none stand out.

Star Is A 3-4 NT. With A Heart Condition.

We Have All Forgotten To Mention that. The Heart Condition Part. How Would Some Feel If This Guy Has To Retire Early Because Of Heart Problems?

You Don't Have To Be 350+ To Be A Nose Tackle.

Utah Ran A 3-4. And He Was The Nose Guard. (Remember when The Guy Was Called Nose Guard not Nose Tackle)

Star Is Coming Out Of The Same Defense That Produced Koa Misi And S.Smith.

But You Guys Still Want Star.

Agreed, Mark. Dashi doesn't Talk reckless.

If You Allow Me To Explain. I Can Even Show You How You Can Rush The Passer With 1 Star DE.

Mando, since you're saying the Dolphins don't love Johnson why is your caddy Beastly saying the Dolphins might be trading up to draft him?

Is that guy a tool?

"I see a team that seems more likely to try and move out of No. 12 than not. And unless the move is to go up to try to land perhaps Eric Fisher, I'm thinking the attempted move will more likely to be down rather than the much-speculated trade up."

I don't think trading up is the right move. Yes we need a LT but we also need to draft players @ CB, @ S, @ TE, @ RB, @ DE, & maybe a top DT. A trade down only works if someone REALLY wants a guy at 12. At the end of the day I believe we'll draft @ 12. The three LT's will most likely be gone & I doubt that Star Loutelei will still be there. Therefore I've got these five guys as serious possibilities (in no specific order);

1) Warmack (might be gone)
2) Cooper (might be gone)
3) Damontre Moore
4) Sheldon Richardon
5) Kenny Vaccaro

scourt, a lot of people are talking about Eifert. In fact, both beat writers from the Oalm Beach Post and Sun Sentinel predict Eifert will be the pick.

Just read NFL's top 250 prospects for this years draft. I cannot believe some of the athletes that will be available in rounds 3, 4 and 5.
Some of the good athletes that are good players on the Dolphins will be replaced by great athletes who can become great players.
I am so glad we have coaches that can teach. Great athletes + great teachers = great team.

Just Look At The Player Grades. These TE's Are Not That Good. Not Much Difference Between The 1st TE and The 5th TE.

Keller Had A Higher Grade Coming Out. Heck Egnew Had About The Same Grade As The Top 2, Last Year.

These TE's Are Not Special.

Plus TE is The 4th/5th Option On This Team.

So You Will Get a Guy At #12 That sucks!! And We Will Barely Use.

Because NE Does It!!

We Are Not The F'ing Patriots!!

Trade down. Try to get another # 2 in the trade down. Then once you have three #2 try to find a Dave WANSTADT clone and trade one of the # 2's for a # 1 next year.

Someday Dashi will learn the basics of writing English. Someday Dashi will learn when to use capital letters. Someday Dashi will say something intelligent rather than just repeating what he saw on TV.

Dear Mr. Salguero

Today is the final day NFL teams are allowed to bring in prospects for private visits.

Was it anything like this.....

Jeff Ireland showing the sites of Miami to the prospects

Jeff : See that girl over there....she's a hooker

Jeff at dinner : our waitress is a hooker

Jeff looking out of a window at the Ritz Carlton : see that pool girl....she's a hooker

So as you see Miami has a lot to offer.

It could have happened.

Soiled :)

Only one thing is important in our top 5 picks (within the first 100 selections) we get an OL, 2 CB, Pass rusher, and a TE.

Dashi, the guy is not scheme dependant. And the fact that the guy produced 5 sacks as a NT should only be more reason why he would be an intriguing prospect as a 4-3DT. Pressure up the middle makes Tom Brady go into the fetal position. Getting a DT who gets 7-8 sacks in the NFl would be even better than a DE who gets 10 and is a pure edge rusher.

After the three LTs, Star and Sheldon Richardson are my favourite players in this draft. maybe you can live with one edge rusher like you say but adding more heat up the middle really messes up the other team's o line. Not possible to double Wake anymore. remember, linemen are taught to block the inside pressure first when they help.

And the heart condition I bet won't be a problem. If it was, he would retire now. You can control these things with medication. There are a lot of athletes out there who compete after having heart procedures. Science is advanced. This isn't 1985 anymore.

I'd like to see the Fins trade up to get Fisher -- but only if the additional cost is pick 54 not 42. The top of this draft doesn't merit the usual "points" value system and the trade up market won't support it anyway.

Trading down makes no sense. We already have 11 picks and how many rookies can make the team? The only reason to even consider that would be to get a at least a round 2 pick in next year's draft.

So that explains the dez incident Soiled. Jeff wasnt asking a personal question he was recruiting for miami's ladies of the night!

All Valid Points. But Dolphins can Address a Bigger Need At #12.

I don't see Miami trading up for Lane Johnson when good tackles are available in round 2. More than likely Miami tries to trade down, and drafts Eifert.

Didn't we already have a "Lemon" in Miami? Cleo, anyone?

Have all you people forgotten how much we sucked on offense? We NEED to upgrade our offensive line.
If Jonas Gray is not a very good back, we NEED a power running back. Lacy looks good to me, I just do not know how we get him without overpaying..
If not him, the running back from Arkansas is a terrific athlete that might be an answer. The Dolphins will still run the ball often. Philbin will insist and I think that Sherman agrees. It may be a passing league, but teams that were in the Super Bowl ran the ball.

Wait to see if Dee drops to 12. If not trade back to the bottom of the first round, for a #1 next year, and select Jamar Taylor in front of the Patsies. Then, the best Passrushing End available, followed by the best playmaking Safety available for our second round selections, address the OL and TE in the third, DT or CB in the fourth. That scenario also gives us some of the firepower we need next year to move up and grab Clowney.

Eifert Eifert Eifert !!!

Worst case scenario: He is a good consistent TE that will continue developing.
Best case scenario: He scores many touchdowns in the red zone, gives lots of first downs, and potential Pro Bowler.

I love the TE position. I pull the trigger here. That's it!

"And the heart condition I bet won't be a problem. If it was, he would retire now. You can control these things with medication. There are a lot of athletes out there who compete after having heart procedures. Science is advanced. This isn't 1985 anymore"

let's not bet...

let's take a sure pick...

With 4.6 40 speed, could the Dolphins perhaps be looking at this kid as an olb prospect should he fall? This more than enough speed to cover 95% of the league's TE's.

Misi is a fa in 2014 and I just don't see Lemonier as our 2013 1st rd pick no matter how far we trade down in the 1s rd. IMO, this could be more due diligence if Lemonier is still there with the 2nd or "3rd pick" of the 2nd rd.

3RD pick of the 2nd rd, because, a trade down could net an additional 2nd rd pick. Giving a grand total of 3 2nd rd picks next week.

I almost Guarantee Eifert is the pick at 12 unless (maybe) Warmack or Millener) were to be there which Millener definately won't be... Why else has there been absolutely no tal of Filling that (NEED) in the draft from the front office. We've all heard rumors (slipped from the team) of this and that position but absolutely nothing about TE and that always seems to be the position Ireland fills in the 1st rd every yr (the least talked about) aside from Tannehill last yr....
Tha main reason I expect it to be TE is because aside from Fassano last yr no other TE saw the field because they couldn't pick up blocking asignments issued them on any given play like Eifert is (capable) of doing. He may not be the best blocker but he's a capable blocker and definately the best recieving TE. Ireland and Philbin know they have to have a well rounded guy at the position and noone on the team is well rounded. That's why Fassano was on the field so mu,h last yr and the reason we went after Cook so heavily (we apparently offered more $$$ but he still chose ST. LUIS...
Another reason I believe it could very well be Eifert is cuz they let Keller leave town without a contract before he returned the next day taking (only the one yr deal)!!!!
They let him leave cuz they felt comfy with taking Eifert if necessary I bet cuz aside from Milliner sliding to 12 I don't thi.k they're excited about the others that everyone talks of top 15 guys except maybe Eifert. And THEY SURELY FILLED A LOT OF POSITIONS IN FA with guys but only TE for 1 yr DT a 2 yr deal, O G a 2 yr deal, can franchise our S next yr and LB's are on 3 & 4 yr deals but that TE only got a 1 yr deal unlike the 4 yr deal offered to Cook!!!

From what I read last year Jonas gray was healthy near end of the season but miami didnt want to activate him and chance reinjury so close to getting healthy and it was the end of the year and we were already out of the playoff picture.

Dashi, like I said earlier, I don't give a sheet about "need" if the position isn't QB. You can always find vets who play the position at a good level. Just take the best talent, use it and move on.

And Vaccaro is your sure thing? There's no guarantee Eirc Reid, TJ McDonald, or DJ Swearinger won't be better pros than Vacaro. The line there between those guys isn't that large.

After reading about Martin yesterday, I am more convinced then ever he will be our LT. They said Martin spent the off season pulling trucks, yes, pulling trucks and lifting weights in California. And on another note, Jerry came in much lighter and looking good.

If we could come out of this draft with:

Vaccaro or Eifert
Pugh or Long
Slay or Cyprien or Taylor

I'd be happy

The 18th spot is the magic number to gain an additional 2nd rd'er according to the value chart. So, it wouldn't surprise me in the least if Ireland traded back 18-22, get an additional 2nd rd pick and then selected bpa.

Sitting in the 18th-22nd spot, an entire plethora of things could happen. Let the fking fireworks begin!

BPA, At #12.

In A Position Of Need.

Are All Players I Will Select Before Picking A TE or A DT at #12.

And If I Can Trade Up For L.Jockel. I Will. But That Is Only Because We Really Need A LT!!

And It Won't Hurt Showing M.Sherman's Influence On The Draft. Luke Would Come In Already Knowing What Is Expected. Already Knowing Most The Plays. He Would Just Have To Learn The Speed Of The Game. And He Would Have Cam Wake To show Him In Practice.

"After the three LTs, Star and Sheldon Richardson are my favourite players in this draft. maybe you can live with one edge rusher like you say but adding more heat up the middle really messes up the other team's o line. Not possible to double Wake anymore. remember, linemen are taught to block the inside pressure first when they help."

Something to be said about a DT that can not only clog up the middle & take on double teams BUT also still get pressure on the QB. Starks started the season playing like that but then his played tailed off for whatever reason. Look at guys like Geno Atkins, Vince Wilfork, & Justin Smith. These guys are CLEARLY the heart of their defenses. Can Star Lotulelei be one of those players in the NFL??? I believe he can but I also believe he'll be off the board before 12.

If he's still there then barring something unforeseen in this draft he'll be the highest rated prospect left. Although I'm a HUGE fan of both Cooper & Warmack I just feel the value of a top DT trumps the value of a top Guard.

On another note, Gronkowski has to go in for another surgery for infection in left arm according to WQAM. Maybe out entire preseason.

FWIW, Walker @ ESPN noted that Kenny Vaccaro visited with the team. I'm very worried about LT, but if there are some good prospects in rounds 2-3, a good safety isn't a bad idea for a team that plays Tom Brady twice a year.

... Unless Dashi has some sort of program going, shifting to capitalize every word Is Harder Work Than It Looks, Just Try It Some Time. I respect his effort.

Don't forget we have two 5th rd picks. If we pick up an additional 2nd rd pick, one of the 5ths could be used to improve the position of one the 2nd rd picks, if a player we highly covet is available.

We may need not worry about a pick at #12. Seems closer we get to draft day, the more the arrow seems to point towards trading down. Im now expecting to pick somewhere between 18th and 22nd.

From this spot, everything seems to be in play, TE, S, you name it.

"Dashi, like I said earlier, I don't give a sheet about "need" if the position isn't QB. You can always find vets who play the position at a good level. Just take the best talent, use it and move on."

Totally agree. The need may be greater at CB & Safety but Lotulelei IMO is one of the top three or four prospects in this entire draft. As of this second I'd only put Fisher & Joeckel ahead of him. After that you can flip a coin between Star & Milliner & we all know Milliner will be LONG gone before we draft.

Hell, if we trade back 18-22, even Patterson could be in play. Our 2013 1st rd pick is true mystery meat right now.

I truly feel like the hungry-hungry hippo in anticipation at present. Hungry-hungry fking hippo!!!

FWIW, Walker @ ESPN noted that Kenny Vaccaro visited with the team. I'm very worried about LT, but if there are some good prospects in rounds 2-3, a good safety isn't a bad idea for a team that plays Tom Brady twice a year.

Everyone is worried about the LT spot but that doesn't mean there aren't other positions to address. This is why trading up doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Yes Fisher & Joeckel are my two favorite prospects in this draft but it's not like we're ONE player away like the Falcons believed they were when they traded up for Julio Jones.

We need to keep the picks we have in order to increase the odds of hitting on guys.

yes Vaccaro is the best prospect at safety and rated as one of the 10 best prospects in this entire draft...

but i would also be fine with Eifert who is also the best prospect at his position.

These must be real possibilities since both Clemmons and Keller were offered 1 year deals...

Vaccaro, a top 10 prospect?

Personally, I think all these guys are better or at the worst on par with Vaccaro. he's a good prospect but he isn't Earl Thomas or Ed Reed ...

Lane Johnson
Eric Fisher
*Sheldon Richardson
*Tyler Eifert
Star Lotulelei
Jesse Williams
Jonathan Cooper
Desmond Trufant
Ezekiel Ansah
*Barkevious Mingo
*Luke Joeckel
*Kevin Minter
*Damontre Moore
*Xavier Rhodes
*Sharrif Floyd
Chance Warmack

We also NEED to force more turnovers.
The way you force turnovers is you score a ton of points and force the other team to take chances(like we had to)to catch up.
New Orleans, New England and Green Bay do not have great defenses but they get a ton of turnovers because you have to take chances to keep up with all the points they score.
If Kapernick or wilson were on a team that could not run the ball they would be average.

Im still not getting the Eiffert 1st rd talk. Google Keller's combine. He was stronger and faster than Eiffert. He was also a 1st rd pick.

If Keller and Eiffert's combine numbers are compared head to head, Keller's easily the 1st TE taken if both are in the same draft today. So how the hell do you guarantee Eiffert's pro career is any better than Keller's?

Can some Eiffert homer here guarantee that for me? Don't know about you guys, but I expect great things out of Keller this season. Then I expect Ireland will resign Keller during the 2014 offseason.

I greatly agree with this. Folks, Reshad Jones is greatly entrenching himself as this team's top safety. With Jones on the cusp of pro bowl caliber safety, wth do we need to draft a safety 1st rd?

Its a luxury pick, and far............... from team need.

There are nice safeties that could be an upgrade to Clemons 3rd-4th rd. We only need a great compliment to Resha Jones as it now stands. Not a 1st rd pick next to him. Last I checked, this team really doesn't have that luxury, when options will exist closer to addressing a more need oriented position than safety.

However, I would grab a safety 1st rd if somehow we were to trade back into the 1st rd. But safety isn't urgent enough need to make the position our sole 1st rd pick.

I think Fasano being 4 inches taller than Keller might be some of the appeal to it. Also, I'm not sure if the team believes in Egnew and Clay behind him.

Too hard to project a trade, so the prospects that I would like the most if there want at 12 would be

Lane Johnson and Millner (probably gone)
Cooper and Warmack
Star and Richardson

Lemonier would be a steal in the 4th round. I would take him in the round 3. Good job of scouting by Mr. Ireland and his team.

I hear people talk about Barry Sanders,
I am an amateur NFL historian and I believe if you look it up Barry has a very interesting record most yards lost by a running back. Also the NFL has changed since he played a lot of the teams were running off the Parcles' model bigger is better playing within your box. Now the NFL is playing off, and I hate to give him credit The Jimmy Johnson model look at his Dallas and latter Miami Defenses Norton, and Lett in Dallas, Taylor and Thomas in Miami lighter and faster defenders. And what did Johnson preach you can't teach speed, so dancing around is no longer an option in todays NFL.

I agree Bess should be upgraded. He and Hartline combined for 2 tds last year. The tandem has been far from td scoring machine. If youre not going to upgrade Hartline(resigned) you at least need to upgrade Bess.

Both can not be brought back to coexist in the same wr corps. Bess has 4 tds in 4 yrs and Hartline 6 tds in 4yrs. Just don't make sense to bring both back. Seems t6he fo has chosen to keep Hartline.

Meant Eifert not Fasano at 12:36. Yeah, I am guessing Bess will be gone now as well.

Patriots: Gronkowski 6'6" 265 + Hernandez 6'1" 245
Dolphins: Eifert 6'6" 251 + Keller 6'2" 250

Eifert was huge part of Notre Dame success this year.

Eifert!! Go Big or go home. Go New Dolphins!
