Dolphins take flyer on QB Aaron Corp

Aaron Corp is not what I'd call a buyer. You know, the athletes that get signed by a team and because they know they're going to be around for a few years they put down roots and buy a home.

Corps is a barely a renter, actually.

He played for two colleges -- USC first before transferring to Richmond.

He was signed in 2012 by the Buffalo Bills as an undrafted free agent. Then he was cut a month later. Then the Bills signed him in in February of this year. Then he was cut April 29.

Then the Dallas Cowboys signed him May 7. Then the Cowboys cut him May 9.

Today, according to thesidelineview.com, Corp agreed to a one-year contract with the Dolphins.

Corp, who is 6-4 and 220 pounds, will be given a chance to compete with Pat Devlin for the No. 3 QB job in Miami. That's the company line.

The truth?

He better show promise in the OTAs and June minicamp because his stay is not promised even until the start of training camp. If he does make it to training camp, I see him as a camp arm. Three quarterbacks cannot handle all the duties and throws of training camp.

He definitely isn't in a position to buy, just yet.

The Dolphins cut long snapper Patrick Scales to make room on the roster for Corp. One assumes Scales was also renting.

I don't know, there used to be great Posters here, fin4life, Darryl Dunphy, redsky, now they are all gone and we have remained with the low-lives, ignorant gutter-People. I hope those Posters return when the Football action starts.

You had nothing to write about, I guess, huh Mando?

Last note:
Didn't you also just call Garrard a n*****? Twice?
Nobody - Out.

Oh God NO.........Jack.......Ass.
Get your mind out of the Racist Gutter. The "N" stood for Numbnut!
This is 2013 and you obviously need to catch up with the "Times".
I'm Apache and Norwegian. A Half-Breed! I have Nieces and a Nephew that have married Afro Americans. They themselves have had some Beautiful Children(Especially their eyes, for some reason all of these kids have nice complexions and Beautiful eyes).
Anywhoo.........MOST of us have come a long way since the Civil War. What happened to YOU Jack Ass?
Posted by: odinseye | May 16, 2013 at 01:45 AM

You are a LIAR bro
Can't wash that off.
You will not be acknowledged again.

Gee, did David Garrard just **MYSTERIOUSLY** quit.........AGAIN!
ROTFLMAO - This guy took Jeff Ireland for a ride and now he got the jets too.
If he would've just "Played" the jets, I would laughing along with the rest of the NFL(BTW-I wonder if they would want Jesus Jr. back now that they know Garrard was only collecting a check?).
But seeing how he "Played" The Dolphins too, it's just **PROOF POSITIVE** that he's a low life N.........he's a low life N.......
Well, it's 2013, lets just say he's Low Life Scammer and leave it at that.
Seriously, now that a pattern of Fraud can be established, I think Garrard should be brought up on charges. If nothing else, the Dolphin's should sue him in Civil Court and try to recoup the Money he "Scammed" them out of.
Twice in a Row? Come on Dave.......you should've took the money and ran you Fvcking Rodent! I hope the Dolphin's and the jets sue you for every last penny you ripped them off for!
I knew the "Goody Two Shoes" facade was just that. This thieving scum bad is no better than ALoco and all his fictitious Boy-Friends.
(I would've ended that last sentence with a "LOL", but it ain't funny. It's always just a few Low Life scumBags that ruin it for everybody!)
Fvck Off Garrard, I'm just glad we didn't waste a season with your less than mediocre skills.

Man up and own up to your non-sense. Ive never had a problem with you man. I can ignore you when you go on your troll rants. But you easily implied that Garrard was a "low life N...... then you try to twist it and deny it. Which thus also makes you a bold faced liar...and that my friend I have no use for. Good luck with that man. Try to avoid acknowledging my post because I sure the hell wont be paying a seconds worth of attention to yours.

Odin - Racists & Liar.

Jack = Dashi

Odin that was a POS post I respected your post till now. You sir can eat a fat one!

Read your article this morning 5/16 about all the noise being made by the players. Nothing Ive heard them say would lead me to believe they were being cocky or verbose. No predictions of AFC champs nor Super Bowl winners. The players seem happy about the current FA signings and draft picks, whats wrong with that? Ive heard no promises of an undefeated season, just excited about the prospects of a good season, whats wrong with that? This article is real downer for the players who use to enjoy talking to you. That might change.

Plain and simple, this morning's article blows. Just two weeks ago, Armando was lauding the Fins off-season acquisitions and their draft picks. Now he is calling for caution. Horsefodder. The fans have been disappointed long enough. It's time for optimism, by the players, the coaches , the FO and the fans. It's time to expect positive results.

Why can't we anticipate the playoffs. What is so terible about thast. Let's get behind the team; let's expect a reason to celebrate. And let the naysayers stick their peccimism where the sun don't shine.

Armando writes negative nelly articles because that is what the masses feed off of. Negativity. WE love it and crave it. It fuels our entire day. People rarely want to read a feel good article.

The Problem Is Mando's Dictionary Has No Positive Words In It.

And When He Thinks About The Fins. All He Sees Is Red.

Mando Was The 1 Kid In School Who Always Went Against Everyone. And In Miami In The 80's. That Means He Was The Only Anti-Dolphin Fan.

Notice He Says He Was A Redskins Fan. (and a Jets Fanatic)

Any True Dolphins Fan Dislikes The Redskins.

Oh yeah. Screw the Redskins...I have to hear about them enough as it is. Dan Snyder and Odin can hang out in the never going to change racists club. 'NEVER'

This is an expansion team with 10-11 new starters in year 6 of Irescum. WTF?

Armando writes negative articles because there's nothing positive about 4 losing seasons in a row. The worst Dolphin team ever?

YG has made lots of racist comments also.

Come on RON SON
I got spirit yes I do
I got spirit, how bout you!?!?!?!?

There are worse things in life than the team youre a fan of not being very good. BUT
The tide is turning my friend, the tide is turning.

I can deal with racists and deragatory comments, whatever. People say ignorant shyt daily. Sometimes even me! I don't get upset with people who are ignorant. Like I don't get upset with a tardo that can't read. It just aint in the deck for some. But to bash someone for a trivial thing while also being racist and then boldly lie about it in the hopes of covering ones tracks is very very very slimey. Snake in the grass like. And I like snakes but you have to be careful where you step because a snake in the grass you are unaware of, can and will bite you.

The tide is turning? I've heard that same nonsense for too many years. This team is terrible and wont win 5 games IMO.

No doubt the schedule looks to be a challenge this year. Time will tell, I will maintain my hope!

This is the start of ANOTHER total rebuild. And Irescum is doing it AGAIN! WTF?

Slow Day I See.

I already told you. Didn't I?

I laughed when I read the hype about Gillislee. Dumb jerks obsessing about a rook.

I just looked at his highlights and wow. This guy has great vision and anticipation. And, he has the phisical ability to cut and accelerate through the hole.

It will be hard to keep him on the bench. Especially with his blocking ability.

...Marvin McNutt.. I enjoy the chess game all NFL teams make to try and fill the bottom of their rosters.

Will this guy make the team? Probably not. If he does, will he make a play to help us win a game? Hopefully. Odds are slim. I'm not sure this player is any better then any of the other fringe receivers fighting for a spot. Fact is, we need bodies for camp-OTA's general competition. So McNutt has a role for now. Good luck to him. Perhaps he emerges as a player.

Can't believe no one is talking about us signing McNutt. I remember some folks around here raving about this kid as a later rounds pick up last year. Now we scoop him up off waivers and crickets??

..Jack @ 11:47..There you go!!

..EK@11:41..Helps to see it instead of just reading about it. By admission I saw 2 Florida games. Gillislee was great in both. I have been high on him since the LSU game. Check out those highlights. Those were pros he was dominating. He lays a good block on Montgomery, and a few good chips on Mingo. Another thing that impressesd is how many carries he had in that game..No doubt a physical one.

I would be interested in how he played the next week. That LSU game was physical.

Gillislee's 140yds performance against LSU was the last game of the season. His next performance was vs Louisville in the Sugar Bowl.

His Sugar Bowl performance was 9 carries 48yds, still 5.3ypc. The Gators were throttle by qb Teddy Bridgewater and the Cardinals 33-23. Bridgewater was 20-32 266yds 2tds. Gators qb John Driskell was 16-29 175yds 2 ints in comparison.

Louisville jumped to a quick 24-3 lead, and were up 24-19 by halftime. Louisville would take a commanding 30-10 lead, by scoring their 1st possession of the 3rd qtr.

So, as I'm sure you can see, their wasn't much opportunity to launch their ground game by the Gators, hence, Gillislee having only 9 rushing opportunities for 53yds(5.3ypc).

Someone Sucks At Math.

Gillislee Averaged 88YPG. 4.7ypc.

Not 102ypg Like Someone Was Screaming.

We Aren't Going To Have A Debate About A Guy Who Might See Some Work As A 3rd Down Back At Best.

Funny Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious Took YG's Word For His Math. Apparently He Doesn’t Know How To Divide.

1152yds/13 games =88.6ypg

Back To The Drawing Board.

Ignore the last post. The Lsu game was much earlier in the year. My eyes played tricks on me in reading the Gators 212 game logs.

The following week(LSU) the Gators played Vanderbilt. Gillislee had 17 carries 67yds, at 3.9ypc. However, the Gators did win handily, 31-17.

Actually, Gator qb John Driskell was the rushing star in this game. He rushed 11 times 177yds 3tds.

Your YPC Which Is What RBs Are Measured By Per Carry. It Goes Down From College To The Pro's. As Competition Is More Elite It Is Harder To Average The Same Per Carry.

Even With The Great Ones.

It Is Just Common Sense.

Look It Up.

Tell Me 1 RB Who Averaged More Per Carry In The Pro's Than In College. I Will Give You 1000 That Proves I'm Right.

So Why Would A Guy That Averaged 4.7yds A Carry In College Average More Than A RB That Averaged 5.0 Yds A Carry In The Pro's.

Posted by: Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious | May 16, 2013 at 12:18 PM

You know what? You're correct. I guess my handheld calculator needs a battery change. Just did the same math with my comp calc and got the same number as you did.

...Yg..I actually just watched the first 3 quarters of the Vandy game. I read the stat line too. So I wanted to see what happened. First off. Gillislee was very good on first down in the first half. The Gator Offense not so much. They didn't use him much on downs 2-3...Also. They had 3 offensive lineman out, or go down in that game(Vandy)..So in the second half(or third quarter) Gillislee was running into walls of defenders. The only time(another first down) that he had any space he gained 15 yards. He was obvious as a decoy for the quarterback. Who they decided would have a better chance(IMO) because of the shape of the line, and the keying on Gillislee.

The thought I had was durability. How would Gillislee hold up after a Physical game? Pretty well if you watch. If you just see the stat line. It tells a different story. Also..I doubt that Gillislee would be used in this offense to carry the ball 30 plus times this season. IMO he is a 8-12 carry guy for now.

..Yg..Florida State...Another good game to check out though.

The Only Time Gillislee Had Back To Back 100yd Games In His 4year College Career! Was His Senior Year.

Jacksonville State 122yds
Florida State 140yds

And Before Those 2 Games He Had 5 Straight Games With Less Than 80 YPG And 0TDs In All 5 Games.

At Best Gillislee Is A 3rd Down Back.

Posted by: Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious | May 16, 2013 at 12:31 PM

With Gillislee, you also have to consider The Gators passing attack under qb John Driskell was virtually non-existent. So, all defenses need do was load the box to counter their run game only. That's a very difficult task for any runner at any skill level.

It will be very interesting to see how he performs in our offense, one that now has a legit passing game, and a deepthreat(Wallace) that will force defenses not to overload the run box.

You Were Screaming That One Stat At Me As The Only Reason Gillislee Is Better Than E. Lacy.

And I Took Your Word As An Idiot Instead Of Doing My Own Math.

It Is My Fault Also. For Taking You At Your Word.

I Apologize.

go finssssssssssss

isn't there a Heat blog elsewhere?

...Supercali.....You can't just judge by the stat lines. Find the real story as to why. You see 100 yards plus, and that is the only barometer?? I'm sure teams do not base their evaluations like this. Watch the games to find the truth. Example..Just scrolled through all the carries of that Vandy game...If you just read the stat line you would think(as evident by your post @12:38) that Gillislee had a bad game..I'm not saying it was his best effort. But it surely wasn't poor. The stat line is a week basis for your argument. Look at what this guy does well, and how it applies to our team..

When he had opportunities to cut back and find a seem..He did. When he had to block guys he did. When he was asked to be a decoy he did. When he was asked to catch the ball..He did. No running back was going to find holes in that game..There were no running lanes. Pretty simple.

Anyway..I agree with the premise that Gillislee is going to be the 3rd down back..It is Lamar Millers job to lose. It is not unrealistic to believe that if Miller can't step up, or gets knicked. That Gillislee will take that role. That's all..In the best case scenario Gillislee is a piece of the puzzle..A part to the whole of the running back group.

McNutt is a good pickup for competion sake at the very least. He was very good at the senior bowl last year and everyone was surprised he lasted till round 6. i am sure New England put a claim in as well. If so then it is a double win taking him.

If Lamar Miller doesnt perfotm or gets injured this could be a repeat of the 1-15 season. All the players ar saying we're going to really miss both Long and Bush.

You Sir are an unmitigated Racist. It's painfully obvious in your posts and your erroneous assumptions.

**NOT EVEN** a nice try in twisting my post into something it wasn't.

PS: You also expose YOURSELF as the Troll(w/out even realizing it of course, Duuuuh).........YET AGAIN-ROTFLMAO!

Of all the important and pertinent information contained in my post, FOOTBALL related information MIND YOU, your **RACIST** Jack Ass Self zero's in on **YOUR OWN** erroneous assumption and continues on your Merry Trolling way.

How utterly typical of a Racist trying to twist the FACTS and Hide behind fake screen names and Bald Faced Lies.

Boy -O- Boy, you are some piece of work........Jack Ass!

L. Miller Gained 5.7ypc In College. And 5.0ypc As A Rookie.

And He Played Behind The Same O-Line and Fronts As Reggie And D. Thomas.

Actually People Even Stacked The Line More Against Miller. Because They Knew When He Was In The Game The Fins Weren't Passing.

Again, I Don't Hate Gillislee. I Just Won't Put Expectations On Him That I Know He Has Never Reached.

Gillislee Will Be A Good 3rd Down Back. If He Does More Than That And Develops As A Good #2 In A Couple Season. I Will Be Happy. I Wish Him The Best. He Plays For My Team And I Want Him To Succeed. But I Am Objective.

It Is Like DJ. I am Not Expecting Double Digit Sacks As A Rookie. But 7 Sacks Seems Fair. And In The Future He Has The Potential To Be A Double Digit Sacks Guy.

Still, Alabama qb AJ McCarron, is light years better than Gators qb John Driskell. The effects of having a very capable qb and pass game can never be underestimated in the effectiveness of having a great run game.

AJ McCarron is a possible 2014 1st rd draft pick. John Driskell will be working o his new profession following college.

Who cares about the crap Dolphins anymore?

I Allow You Saying That Alabama O-Line Helped Skew E. Lacy Stat A Little. That Is True. That Is Why I Rarely Had A Counter Argument For That.

But AJ McCarron =Ken Dorsey.

Driskel Is Garbage Also. But AJ Is A Product Of The System and Talent Of The Team.

A Matt Barkley Type. Or Any Oklahoma Qb In The Last Decade.

..Wallyfin..We already won the claim.

Also..I know that the Pats get stroked because of their record in the division..They can do no wrong. But Am I tired of the idea that every player out there is a guy the Pats will take and turn to gold. We had better get this guy before them. Am I jealous of Brady, and the fact he can take ordinary and make them look good? Yup. But come on. Marvin McNutt. Really? I hope he turns out to be a good player here. But would we really lose sleep if the Pats had signed him??

Lebron is BETTER then Michael Jordan ever was!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I Agree With You Saying...

...12:57..Plungie award!

i like him for competion and maybe he will become a good player. I am not jumping for joy over it.

but just like Binns last year we kept him away from our division rival..

anything that they want that we can mess up is a good thing, just saying.

It will be hard to keep him on the bench. Especially with his blocking ability.

Posted by: Everybody Knows | May 16, 2013 at 11:41 AM

I went through the same process with Gillislee. I was laughing a little under my breath when the Pundits were trumping up a late round pick.

Then I watched his youtube clips. That in turn made me watch entire game clips on youtube. And you're right-WOW!

Gillislee and Miller both have the great vision. It's that certain something that a lot of backs don't have and it can't be taught.

Both remind me of Thurman Thomas in that they use their vision to find creases and even CREATE(set-up)their own cutback lanes.

This doesn't guarantee anything and who really knows how good they'll be? But I **CAN** simply say that they both seem to be VERY encouraging Prospects.

PS: For those of you that don't know, you can get MORE than just a players Highlight Reels off of youtube. You can get LOW-Light Bloopers as well as entire games. With some prospects you can get every snap with the inbetweens edited out.

It's still not as good as Coaches Tape, but it's much better than the uninformed and ignorant run of the mill Troll makes it out to be-LOL

It can be argued Miller played against not nearly as good defenders in the ACC. Everyone knows the SEC is the closest thing to NFL you'll find at the college level.

As a dolfan, Im hoping both will be great backs. Also, to assume Gillislee will be nothing more than a "3rd down" back his 1st season could be greatly erroneous. I just don't want to "automatically assume" Miller will be the starter based on the very small" snapshot of his abilities that we saw last season.

Lamar Miller also didn't put together a huge body of college work at the U, to definitively define what he could be at the pro level either. Many speedy backs haven't quite reached their "assumed potential" at this level.
We can only hope for the best with Miller and Gillislee both. Not try and dissect the hell out of each. Neither have great enough collegiate body of work to say for definite either will be great.

I just hope that the "Mike Wallace effect" give both the greatest opportunity to achieve this very elusive beast called greatness.

Lebron is a lot better defender then Jordan because he can defend all 5 positions. He's also like having a coach on the floor because he knows exactly what the Heat need at different times.

Me Personally I Want The Fins To Draft Duke Johnson When He Comes Out.

The Reason L. Miller Had To Leave Early.

That Kid Might Be The Best UM Running Back Ever! And That Is A Pretty Good List Of RBs. Duke Is The Only RB I Might Compare To Barry Sanders. That Is How Talented He Is.

The SEC has good linemen but their skill players are usually weak.

Snake in the grass like. And I like snakes but you have to be careful where you step because a snake in the grass you are unaware of, can and will bite you.

Well I'll be a Monkey Boys Uncle. If that's not a YG post I'll kiss your ass.

Jack posts this and suddenly YG appears and jack disappears. LOL.

Lets see so far I am Oscar, Dashi and YG...man I must stay busy areound here...

Other than that... did ya'll hear something? Yeah neither did I...

..King James..I am down with Lebron. I agree. I think he is a better all around defender. Jordan did not have the size to guard like James can. There is just a huge difference between the 2 when it comes to the will of each player. Lebron is a midget when it comes to the mentality of Jordan. This is what separates the 2. One is a killer, the other is the ice cream man. Lebron has a ways to go before he is even in the class of the best players of all time.

I'm not saying he won't get there. He just isn't in that room yet.

Gillislee projects more to be a backup or utility back - he does not have the frame to carry a starter's workload. He also had a pedestrian 4.7 YPC average last year, his only year as starter at Fla. 4.7 YPC is ho-hum in college. He also had only 16 catches last year. But all that is perfectly fine considering the round we took him in.
I just don't see him as starter material. But you never know.
