Addressing a few topics

Hi, gang. Barry Jackson visiting Armando's blog for the first time in a year.

With camp starting in 11 days, I will have four Dolphins columns in the next week and will link to the first one here, with several tidbits:

http://miamiherald.typepad.com/sports-buzz

If you only check out this blog on The Herald site, and don't regularly see my blog (which is next to Armando's as well as on the sports home page), please scroll through my blog posts -- if you have a few minutes -- for many other Dolphins notes that I've run in columns in the past month --- including a comprehensive look at the Dolphins' 2014 cap outlook, how Miami is approaching Randy Starks' contract situation, items on several players, etc.

For those who have asked about Pro Bowl fullback Vonta Leach, his agent has told us Miami is the front-runner and the best fit for him. But Leach is waiting to see if another team is willing to offer more than the financial parameters that the Dolphins have discussed with his agent.

Armando and his excellent work will return to this space next week. Please follow Armando (@ArmandoSalguero) and me (@flasportsbuzz) on Twitter.

Can't wait for training camp to start!

Why is D Thomas still in the NFL?

Because Irescum wasted 3 picks on him and wont admit his HUGE BOTCH!

lesotho

I really don't see any tattoo on JMartin's arms. That's a good sign.

Armando is cleaning windshields at the corner of 37th Avenue and 22nd Street today. He also has bags of limes for sale.

Drop by, give him some spare change and say hello!

I don't have any either. I would never tarnish this greatness with graffiti...

Armando is the best Dolphin writer and is sorely missed. We heard he is in Hawaii.

jaja. u guys.
lol

When do Adam Beasley and Barry Jackson begin thier 2 month layoffs?

They're white - Herald doesn't lay them off

Fake fraud at 10:06 and 11:04.

I know you step on my handle because you admire me but please stop it because you do not have my prior written approval.

D. Thomas ended the 2012 season ahead of Miller and Gilligan on the depth chart.
Players do not lose thier position on the depth chart between seasons if they remain with the team and do not have surgery.

It's lunch time and within walking distance of my location are:

Any suggestions?

On Vaughn Martin from last night:

Pre-Season should be in 1st D substitution package and here's some food for thought if he blossoms maybe you can move Starks around some to DE (can pass rush) with Martin inside.

===============================================

Fin4, don't know why I hadn't thought of that myself. I believe Starks made his FIRST Pro Bowl while playing DE for US!

Not a full time look of course, but how wicked might that be?

DE. Starks.

DT. Solia.

DT. Martin.

DE. Wake.

We'll give them this look, with Jordan(and/or Vernon)roaming around in JT's old Cobra role!

Which ever way you want to look at it, I think Vaughn Martin at least helps/upgrades as a rotation player and overall, one of our strongest units gets even stronger!

Oscar,

Whats up with you posting about Kapernick's hat JUST PRIOR to Neal putting up a NEW Blog about it?
=============================================

What a dumb fukkk Kaepernick has turned out to be! Cut him, San Fran. We'll pick him up here(along with that girlfriend in that photograph).

Neal posted aboutr Kap's Cap **SHORTLY AFTER**.

So what is it Oscar, you Psychic? Or do you have some inside employee Sources?

And what's with ETF being so concerned with Hernandez? Does ETF know that ALoco lives up there and is a BIG patriot fan?

Oh my GOD........NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

He just couldn'r BE..............?

Could He...........?

Tattoing has traditionally been used by the low classes and the Uneducated. Perhaps to attract some of the Attention to them?

Your vacation seem to get longer every year, Mando. Hurry back already.

I don't see any tattoos on Nolan Carroll's arms either. Neither on Tannehill.

Oscar, I share your opinion on tattoos

Listen many People read this Blog. As a matter of fact, I read a post once here, that said that if I died, about 12 TMH employees would lose their jobs or work at a much reduced salary. Howbout that!(take care of me)

I don't know most of these new Players from Adam(not Beasley, I know him). We just have to wait and see.

odin,

After the draft remember it was us who questioned trading for what looked like a situational player with the 3rd pverall pick and very high 2 unless used in JT hybrid role and we were blasted by everyone for our negativity. My thinking at the time was that the team was looking for the superior athlete they can move around the line of scrimage creating the mis-matches across the OL. Given most fans are younger they think JT but he wasn't the original in the NFL or on the Dolphins for that matter.

Remember it was Bill Arnsbarger in 81 that experimented moving AJ Duhe from LDE to RDE and then from WLB to SLB in his 3/4 the Killer Bees played in. By 82 he was lining up at MLB next to Rhone (after Rusty Chambers death) between Bomhower and Betters shooting the gaps which only made SLB Larry Gordon that much better before his death in 83 coupled with Duhe's career killing knee injury destroyd the real strength of the Bees which was the LB Pos. Remember Duhe was a tweener even in that era who was such a superior athlete he wrecked havoc coming from all sides.

The Giants Parcells and Belichik later copied this with the GOAT of pass rushing LB's LT calling it the ROVER. It then gets the ultimate modification in S.F. for todays game with Walsh/Seifert using Haley in hybrid DE/OLB role spreading him wide in their formation which they coined the ELEPHANT Pos. Haley while great as a Coxboy was never as dominant as he was in the 49ers title runs of 88-89 playing out of it. I never got why JT who was a sort of Haley clone wasn't used in the ELEPHANT out of JJ's 4/3 then remembered JJ didn't like stunting his DL or blitzing a great deal even with Haley in Dallas. The D formations always set in Position playing disciplined within their lanes. The point is in the 4/3 I expect to see Jordan used in this type of scheme tailored to exploiting teams not sure were he's coming from complicating preperation to play Miami.

I am not Aloco and I don't live 'up there' wherever that is.

My concern about Hernandez mirrors my concern for playing football like a man and acting like a man.

Example: 2008 season game 3 1st qtr vs Pats. Keep in mind that in games 1 & 2 teams are playing 10 in the box because they know about NoodleArm's noodle arm. So what does Soprano unveil: BACKDOOR football. That's right while everybody was cheering for the wildcat I posted in this blog in the first qtr of that game that it was BACKDOOR football. I was the lone voice saying this BACKDOOR football is making every player, employee and fan of the team look like a sodomite. And I was right. But I was ignored and so we had to wait more than a year for Henne to throw the bomb to Ginn on MNF to end the BACKDOOR era.

Same with Hernandez. A body is found on a Monday morning. Within 2 hours, with no evidence or witnesses the police annound that Hernandez is the murderer. Then after they announced that they started looking for clues to try and prove it. Since they have no clues they keep floating stories with extreme headlines that make people think that a) they have evidence and b) so called accomplises are giving evidence. But when you read the stories under the headline then they do not support the theses implied in the headline. And when you consider the logic none of it makes sense.

I mean seriously how many gang bangers are HS Grads + College grads + real estate owners + investment owners + have multi-million dollar income on a w-2 form + have a team of CPA's prepare thier tax returns?

I expose fraud wherever I find it without regard to race/ethnicity/origin.

Exposed fraud, you dumb! Killers come from all walks of life. Gang or no gang.
YOU SOUND STUPID!

ETF,

I also wonder about some of the supposed evidence the St. Attorney's office in Mass. is presenting here. You mentioned the Ortiz admission that Wallace told him A.H. had confessed to him after the 4 of them (O.L. included) stopped at the Industrial Park. Makes little sense given I've fired a 45 caliber before and it makes a hell of a noise alot louder than a 9 or 40 Cal. aside from monster kick. It begs to reason that in the Pre-Dawn hrs. when this took place Ortiz would have heard and probably seen a few of the pills administered to the deceased.

There are other things that you simply can't explain away though like the shell matching the ones used in the crime found in A.H. rental ect... circumstantial yes but non the less lends credibility that A.H. knows more than he's telling. The flop house in Franklin wasn't the common knowledge you paint it out to be either from all accounts but everytime they present something tangible they put something else out in the press that makes little sense, I will give you that! For instance they impounded an SUV at his uncles in Bristol which they say matches the vehicle used in the double murder, really? Did somebody take down the plates or something and if so why hadn't they picked up A.H. already? Or is it just a car matching the discription sounds flimsy!

Sosa,
The police found a body.
2 hours later they announced to the press that Hernandez killed someone.
At the time they had no evidence and no witnesses.
3 weeks later they have no evidence and no witnesses.
The reason they have no evidence and no witnesses is not because Hernandez is a drug crazed idiotic criminal mastermind who has murdered people in 3 states and hides from the police in plain sight.
The reason there are no witnesses nor evidence is because he didn't kill anyone.
And he hasn't failed any of his drug tests nor does he have a criminal record.
Everybody fell for it except for me.

Players do not lose thier position on the depth chart between seasons if they remain with the team and do not have surgery.

=======================================================

Sorry ETF, but this is a complete an utter fail.

Depth charts change during the off season for any number of reasons.

In Miller's case, he was ALREADY ahead of Thomas on pure run plays/downs. So TECHNICALLY, last season he was behind Thomas. But only because of his lack of experience in picking up the blocking assignments.

If not for Thomas' prior 2 years in the system, Miller would have CLEARLY been the number 2.

As it happened, Miller led all running backs(inc. Bush)in yards per carry. Late in the season he showed a marked improvement in his blocking assignments. So for all intents and purposes, by late last season, Miller had already surpassed Thomas on the depth chart.

Ultimately, the improvements in his Blocking Assignments carried over to Pre Camp and OTA's this year.

As a result, it's been reported that Miller has **EARNED** the starting Job.

Of course, anything can happen. But barring injuries or major, MAJOR showings by any of the rest, Miller's been named the starter.

Miller's been named the starter by whom?
Was there a press conference that I missed?

fin4,
Finally someone else is starting to question the treatment of Aaron Hernandez.
When fraud is being exposed that is how it happens.
Regarding the so called shell casing:
If the shooting happened as Wallace supposedly told Ortiz that it did then there can't be shell casing in the car.
If the shooting took place in the car there would be shell casings + copious blood.

The truth: there is no shell casing in the car. It is one of the lies the police are having the press print to cover up for the mistake they made announcing Hernandez was a killer before they had evidence.

Haha, they announced hernandez as the killer two hours later? I remember the investigation lasting over a week.

I also like how you make up football rules. They do not lose their place in the depth chart over the offseason?? Really???

Players do not lose thier position on the depth chart between seasons if they remain with the team and do not have surgery.

I missed this post!

For starters in the Philbin/Sherman ERA we run a zone blocking scheme which requires a one cut RB to hit his gaps quickly. Did you see Alfred Morris last Yr.? His best asset was his one cut ability and burst in the hole which allowed him to break out the way he did. Last Yr. Philbin having a bigger RB with speed in D.Thomas had to go with the worst fit possible for the scheme in R.Bush or don't you remember how many times last Season Philbin sat Bush probably sick to death of watching him dance at the line instead of reading the hole and blowing through it.

Youtube some Terrell Davis, Clinton Portis and Morris from last Yr. and watch them because I don't think you grasp the concept of a one cut runner. It also requires a somewhat well built back given the pounding which Reggie isn't but Thomas is and you get a picture for what a resounding disappointment he must have been to the new Coaching staff.

Miller didn't pick up his blocking assignments enough to see the field ala LeMicheal James in S.F. who came on late for the 49ers and Tannehill was getting killed enough to let a free blitzer get a cheap lick on the kid but this Yr. L.M. will make everybody forget Reggie and Thomas remember were you heard it 1st!!!!

I've said it many times here since we took him and will repeat! Miller is the best one cut runner out of the U since Clinton Portis was a Hurricane! He goes much higher in his draft if not for a serious knee injury in College. It also hurts Thomas that Gillislee was taken in the draft given he is the same type of RB. I believe Thomas has about a 50% chance of making it through training camp in all honesty, Philbin has pulled the plug on other higher picks Ireland has made in the Sparano ERA like Clyde Gates without a second thought.

The investigation is still on going.
Before lunchtime on the day the body was discovered the police had given it to the press that Hernandez did it.

If Miller is the top RB by the 1st preseason game then so be it.
I didn't say Miller can't start.
I said Thomas didn't lose his job in the offseason. If he loses it in camp so be it.

etf, miller took all of the 1st team snaps in ota's.

Posted by: ExposingTheFraud | July 11, 2013 at 01:45 PM

The casing could have easily been picked up and dropped in the confusing aftermath, I thought about what you say as well with the shooting taking plae outside the vehicle but there is more than one way for it to get back to the car and whether you want to say it was planted or something it's still damning!

I'm sure by trial the defense will look for they're Mark Fuhrman but Hernandez isn't the wholesome image that OJ once was before the murders. OJ was as American as Apple Pie, everybody's ALL AMERICAN.

This kid comes off as everyhing that's wrong with todays youth whether right or wrong perception is 9/10th's of the law and in the Court of public opinion he's already toast. Look at the circumstantial case (no smoking gun)

In the Rae Carruth case you had the victim Sharika Adams caling 911 before she died telling them that she followed Carruth down some desolate road were he slowed down and another vehicle boxed her in before opening fire and he got Bond! He's later caught fleeing in Tenn. but he got Bond! In a case with serious smoking gun type evidence.

This might be true. However, drawing upon the established record, we've yet to see you stick up for any Whites, Blacks, American Indians, Asians, Middle Easterner's, or Eskimo's.

Let me take a stab at an educated guess......."Are you Latino/Hispanic.....?"

Can you see where this is going.........?

Just Curious...........

ETF

A couple more thoughts,

Rae Carruth was given an 18 Yr. sentence for the murder of his pregnant Girlfriend and attempted murder of his unborn son. He was sentenced in Jan. - 2000 meaning he'll be out barring good behavior ect... early 2018, 4 1/2 Yrs. from now. In what amounts to a much more horrific crime from my point of view. In contrast Mass. prosecutors want to toss A.H. in a cell and literally throw away the key! They're looking to make an example of a high profile person with the type of history and associations linked to A.H. and the Gov. always wins so his life looks pretty much over.

odin,

Like you asked me please drop a Football post! I sent one your way about my thoughts on Jordan so your thougthts as I'm all Aaron Heranadezed out!

Odin, I agree with your assessment for the most part. I only listed Martin because I haven't heard yet how his rehab back from injury is progressing. Hopefully, we'll find out in Training Camp.

I'm also hopeful that a deal will be worked out with Leach. He would give us the ability to run against any team in the NFL if we want to. And, he'd help Miller's progress immensely in my opinion. If they spread out to cover our receivers, we could take it down the middle and make them pay. We all know that the run sets up the pass and the pass sets up the run in a balanced attacking offense.

I'm excited to see what the team looks like coming out of camp. I think we're further along than some people think and the team knows that they have to come out of the gate swinging! Hopefully, we will.

It's a good time to be a Dolphin fan! Not so much for all of the Jet's trolls that are an infestation on the blog, or the Pats fans that still think that Brady is the Messiah. The only team that I think may surprise people is Buffalo. Yes, they're rebuilding and probably a year or two from being competitive, but I see them starting to climb out of the cellar this year.

The point is in the 4/3 I expect to see Jordan used in this type of scheme tailored to exploiting teams not sure were he's coming from complicating preperation to play Miami.

GREAT FVCKING POST-LOL! I hope you don't mind that I edited it a little.

YES! Hell YES I remember Duhe! I LIVED for watching Duhe play. I always had confidence when Marino was under center, even when we were down by a TD or Two. I used to get that same kind of feeling when Duhe was on the field. You knew he was going to make a big play. It was just a matter of when.

And you're right about Haley and how JJ misused him(IMO). I thought he did slightly better with JT, but he still misused him as well(IMO).

And Yes, I remember taking a beating here for my/our opinions on Jordan. I still think it'll be a MAJOR, COLOSSAL FAILURE if Jordan isn't a Day 1 - 3 down Starter(Maybe a 4 down player, he can block punts and field goals!).

Jordan needs to play OLB and in passing situations, **COYLE** needs to **TAILOR the entire Defense** around/Too Fit Wake and Jordan's Strengths!

THERE! I said it...........AGAIN-LOL!

Apparently you did!

Miller's been getting "The Starters Reps". And a lot of the Coaches have admitted as much. Like I said, barring injury or a Major Showing, Miller's "The Guy".

It is what it is...........

Guys, dont expect Wallace to have the same numbers with Tannehill that he had with Big Ben.

Hows that Fin4..............?

5 minutes later!

Miller is starting. Everyone knows that.

odin/Tracyh474,

Finally we can get to some Football talk!

I love the V.Martin FA pick has the type of speed you want in a 4/3 DT. I checked back on the 40 Suh put up out of curiosity and he posted an identical 4.98/40 at about 25 Pds lighter (Martin posted his at 330 Pds to Suh's 305 although Martin has gotten down to 300 so maybe even quicker today)

Suh put up 32 reps of 225 while Martin put up freakish 44 reps becoming 1st Canadian College Football player drafted in NFL by Chargers. He was drafted to replace Jamal Williams in their 3/4 scheme as the space eater and feel it a Mis-use of this kids explosivness.

I feel Leach signing needed not just for blocking but have seen him catch out of the backfield and a component we haven't had since Rob Conrad played for us at bigger size than Conrad were he has to be a sight to a DB watching him coming down the sideline. It's not always the flasy picks that get a team over the hump.

Feel Wheeler key as well in pass rush and coverage. The news on Grimes answers early my question as to the LCB we'll see who emerges at RCB and Nickle respectively would love to see Rookie's Taylor and Davis push the Vets here.

Jordan needs to play OLB and in passing situations, **COYLE** needs to **TAILOR the entire Defense** around/Too Fit Wake and Jordan's Strengths!

THERE! I said it...........AGAIN-LOL!

Posted by: odinseye | July 11, 2013 at 02:33 PM

One guy you failed to mention who is getting a lot of positive reviews is Olivier Vernon. I heard he has unbelievable coverage skills for his size! My theory is we will see a 4-3 defense with Starks and Odrick inside; Wake, Misi and Vernon rotating at DE. LBs- Wheeler, Ellerbe and Misi.

I think we also see a return to the 3-4 with Solia at NT; Starks,Martin and Odrick rotating at DE. In this lineup, Jordan,Wake and Vernon would rotate at OLB and Ellerbee and Misi play ILB's.

I can really see us getting very creative in nickel and dime packages!

The benefit being you can disguise blitzes and zone coverage while also keeping fresh legs on the field.

The benefit being you can disguise blitzes and zone coverage while also keeping fresh legs on the field.

Posted by: The Woodshed Gang | July 11, 2013 at 02:58 PM

Good post! We'll see how creative Coyle gets with his personnel given the Bengals never shift out of the 4/3. I've watched them some in the Dalton/AJ ERA and they stay true to form in their D scheme. Also your point on Vernon isn't lost on deaf ears I've been reading up on the shape he seems to have come in at and it says he beefed up over 265 Pds pretty much guaranteeing he plays DE.

Vernon was a child playing last year too. About 21, same with Miller. Plenty of upside in both

Fin4life,

Another reason I suggest this is because of what we attempted to do ,but scrapped early on with our offense last season. Which is to run an uptempo offense that goes no huddle and utilizes multiple looks with the same personnel. With all the additions I think we will try to get back to that type of offense which means our defense will have to get back on the field faster. Guys like Wake,Starks and Solia are studs but cardio starts to fade faster with age. We will need to rest them more frequently in the first 3 quarters to ensure they are up to making big plays in the 4th.

I agree on the Vernon sentiment barring injury I see him starting opposite Wake at DE. Size and strength to set the edge is a necessity. Jordan will one day be there but I see him being more successful with winning a linebacker spot then starting at DE right now. He's not getting cut that's for sure so he may come in on obvious passing downs at DE, maybe. That's a situation where you wan the faster rusher and not the power guy.

I would love to opine about the Dolphins Players here but it would just be speculation. Only 2 things I'm sure of. 1-Tannehill will improve. 2- Dion Jordan will play often, always with his hand on the ground.
