Dolphins not signing Leach for camp's start

The Dolphins and the agent for fullback Vonta Leach had a heart-to-heart talk Thursday and the message was clear. The club is not signing the free agent fullback before camp starts Sunday.

General Manager Jeff Ireland told Ralph Vitolo that the club was starting camp on Sunday without Leach and that, although the club likes the player, the only way a signing would occur is if coaches look at the talent currently on the roster and finds it lacking during camp.

That sound you're hearing is Jovorskie Lane and Charles Clay breathing a sigh of relief.

I first reported this news yesterday on my twitter account. That's happening more and more so follow me for the latest Dolphins news and analysis there. The handle is @ArmandoSalguero.

Leach is not completely out of the picture in Miami.

The Dolphins open camp early this year so it might well be that they see something they don't like the first few days of camp and circle back to Leach. Leach, who has a standing $2 million offer from the Ravens, is in no hurry to sign but he is dangling and available. The Texans are a possibility are also a possibility for Leach.

The curious thing about this whole flirtation with Leach is that the team was so hot for him initially and then suddenly and unexpectedly cooled. The Dolphins were the first team to call Leach after his release from Baltimore. The coaches indicated to him they wanted him. The personnel department indicated to Vitolo they wanted him. Coach Joe Philbin told friends around the league he wanted Leach.

But after Ireland and Philbin returned from vacation, suddenly that desire to sign Leach faded. Interestingly, the Dolphins and Leach never discussed money. The sides talked general numbers but there was never an offer from Miami.

I like the idea of Leach over Lane. Yes, Lane is younger. But Leach is better. Leach is more experienced. Leach is a proven leader. Leach has been on a winner and in the playoffs. And he's healthy and never over weight.

On a Dolphins offense that is young at nearly every position, a little veteran experience would be a plus.

That apparently isn't how the Dolphins view things at the moment.

Easy to see dashi is just a fraud desparately trying to boost his ego on an anonymous blog. In real life, obviously he suffers from lack of self-esteem.

Odin is siimilar, forever trying to create the illusion he is a faded rock star with hotties still clinging to his gray flabby skin. His talk of parties with friends and his numerous hotties rings hollow. Maybe he has a scag or two that is better than self stroking it, that's about it. Let him live his fantasy. It's harmless really.

Fin camp starts Sunday. Tomorrow is Saturday.

Like I said, Leach is good as a lead blocker, perhaps even great. He also has an aptitude as a short yardage runner.
Don't get me wrong;I am not advocating Lane. I think Thomas Will have a sure shot at our FB. This is a scenario some are not contemplating.
Thomas, in my opinion is not a HB in a zone blocking scheme. He, although does have other contributable qualities as a FB.

Great thing that I was born in the US. I don't like hockey and neither do I like soccer.

If I weren't born in the US, I would probably not be a sports fan at all.

Good Sense,

If our fb's cant get the job done, Philbin/Sherman should explore Will Yeatman some as a lead blocker. He can also be a threat to catch out of the backfield and could be awesome as an extra pass blocker.

D-Thomas is a hb. No way do I see Thomas converted to fb.

report tomorrow

Also, with this year's total offensive haul, we have a lot better and many more short yardage situation options than in 2012.

That's for damn sure.

It Didn't Even Take Him 2 Minutes To Flip.

I've tried my best to get into soccer. Ok. It's difficult. But it's boring. 90% of the game the players are chasing after the ball like dogs after a frisbee. Every now and then they put together an exiciting drive with great passing and great shots...but waiting for them is an eternity.

Are you related to Joe Ferguson or something?

Nope just curious why your pushing a Bills QB's name so hard on a Phins blog. I figured he was your cousin or something.

You should check out Gale Sayers' highlights on YouTube. If your a fan of Barry Sanders, you will love the way this guy ran with the ball!

Dashi ran without acknowledging my post. This confirms I hit the nail on the head. He should welcome my advice and confront it, not run and hide and make believe otherwise. This is a sign of weakness and defeat.

Just a couple idiots, fin4 stupid and Odin Odor, used Ferguson as scapegoat to why the Bills weren't a winner with OJ Simpson. Clearly anyone around during that era knows the Bills perennially had one of the nfl's worst defenses.

he nitwit twins blamed Ferguson. That's why I showed them Ferg was one of the first qb's in nfl history to win a starting job as a rookie. A "3RD RD" drafted rookie qb at that. In an era where qb's were groomed for 3-4yrs before even be considered to become a starter.

That was 1973, by 1975 Ferguson tied for most td passes with Fran Tarkenton, a hof qb. Yet, fin4 stupid and Odin Odor insisted he's a god awful qb. Freakin hilarious their lack of gray matter.

If the Bills would have ever had a defense in the early to mid 70's. We would never have been able to beat them like a drum the way we did.

Back then it always scared me a little when we faced Ferguson. Ferguson would score on us, but, we would score against their d much easily. Thank God the Bills d was absolutely horrible back then.

What is apparant is that too many posters here are too in love with their own opinion that they can't accept evidence to the contrary. A few form a bond where they deem themselvves 'the real' bloggers and stroke each others genitalia.

If you are not part of their gossip club special, they ridicule you, but with such ignorance and denial that they only make themselves look more pathetic.

Reality check! Joe Furgeson couldn't sniff Marino's jock much less carry it in any discussion regarding QB's so now that you've taken us all down this cosmic bunny hole of LOGIC please enlighten me on PERENNIAL POWERHOUSE Joe Furgeson and MERE MORTAL Marino in a statistical converstation about how Marino sucked without help but Furgeson was a sacrificial lamb WASTED on some BAD Bills teams???????????

Another EXCELLENT post. YG tries to slide this kind of bullshyt by people everyday under multiple names. Matter of fact, I'm CERTAIN this is ONE of the MAIN reasons he initially resorted to using fake names and ruining the blog.

All because the poor guy just CANNOT bring himself to admit when he's wrong, Man Up and Move on. I feel sorry for the idiot in a way. But all sympathy dissipates as he takes it out on, and ruins the blog.

I can't imagine being trapped in that kind of brain. Pitiful.

Anyway Fin4, going over to a neighbors house for a late night Home Brew Taste Test! We have to find the time to talk for a minute. I listed some of the things I'll be looking at/for during camp and the pre season. But we've had such an infusion of talent, it's hard to narrow down just what to look for.

I guess I'll be looking and expecting improvement across the board. The Homer in me believes we hit Home Runs EVERY WHERE-LOL!

ValHalla Bud!!!!

Nobody compared Ferg to Marino. Now you are fabricating. What I saw as a comparison between Ferg and Griese, and a general analysis of Fergies stats in comparison with his own era.

Why are are jumping to Marino is merely a ploy to distort the parameters of the original discussion.

I am not so sure you are wrong with your comment about Yeatman being more incorporated in the offense. In an offense more proportioned toward diversity, I see us retaining more diverse players.
I see Yeatman as an anomaly in this offense.
In the same train of thought, I see Thomas as a diverse contributor. Likewise he could fail, but he has no ability to read blocking.
Like I said, I like Leach. However, other that his proficiency for a lead blocker,:I think he is expendable.

But all sympathy dissipates as he takes it out on, and ruins the blog.

Posted by: Analysis | July 19, 2013 at 11:11 PM

Because this is exactly what these idiots do instead of admitting they are wrong. This twist the argument into something totally different.

Even during the Marino debate I admitted to them Marino's could once be considered the greatest "REGULAR SEASON" qb of all time. Then said, even that's no longer true because Brad, Brees, and Manning have shattered Marino's "REGULAR SEASON" records too.

That was all Marino had to stand in in reference to being compared as greatest of all time. You can never win against total idiots. To win, first the opponent has to have higher IQ than drying paint.

MVP for blog destroyer would have to be odin. Nobody is even in second place.

Not only does odin endlessy feed the trolls, his responses are only more vile and immature, and to top it off he re-posts the trolls posts thereby increasing their visibility.

It is sheer stupidity that fosters an abundance of blog pollution.

Posted by: Good Sense | July 19, 2013 at 11:14 PM

I would take Leach in a heartbeat. Wouldn't be the least unhappy to sign him. Leach has yet to resign with Baltimore or anyone else. So its still a deal that may just happen.

One thing for sure, Leach doesn't make us any worse off. Whatever he can provide may be that extra punch needed to eek out a very tough win against a very tough opponent.

Posted by: Analysis | July 19, 2013 at 11:15 PM

What these crybaby idiot baffoons really want is a circle-jerk of only 6-7 total bloggers to blow smoke up each others ass while stroking themselves.

Then, on top of that, they want The Herald to foot the bill for it.

A 31 yr old Leach is no part of the rebuild. When we are ready to compete in 2-3 years he'll be gone. Better to give the young guys the snaps.

Ireland strikes again, this guy would screw up a wet dream , speaking of dreams happiest day of my life would be reading someone put a bullet in this morons head, cause that seems like the only way we are going to get rid of that cancerous dead weight that`s ruined this team for the last ten yrs

Ben, you need to hook up with odin and go to a country where suicide is legal.

might be a solid addition for Miami but if he was that good, or valuable, why are only 2-3 teams (apparently) interested in him?--with only 1 (apparently) even offering him a contract (a somewhat modest 1 yr deal at that)--doesnt add up.

I'm noticing how odin and dashi have been ripping on YG for days on end. Once he shows up to defend himself, those two go dead quiet.

Easyto see they really don't have a convincing argument beyond bs trash talk.

Charles "Cassius" Clay
Doesn't cost a thing($465k). Can play TE and FB.

Vontae Leach
$4 Mil/3 Yrs. Can only play FB. His name Vontae and Leach.

I see Yeatman as an anomaly in this offense.

Posted by: Good Sense | July 19, 2013 at 11:14 PM

You said it, he's an anomaly and then some.

It's actually kind of strange. Has he ever been on the field......? Has he ever took any snaps at TE, Tackle or even Tackle eligible?

They must see something with the guy. They stashed him on the roster and have been very patient. He's put on some muscle and weight, but not quite enough to play tackle in my opinion. But What do I know.

I could see us using him in short yardage situations, especially inside the 5. We bring in Jerry as a Tackle Eligible and line him up next too Clabo on the right. Yeatman at Fullback and Javorski Lane going Off Tackle Right as the Halfback!

Or Yeatman could simply still be a blocking TE or Tackle Eligible himself.

Having said all that, I personally think that Philbin pulls the plug on the Yeatman experiment this year. We have upgraded multiple areas to the point that we'll be making some REALLY TOUGH cuts.

When it starts coming down to how many WR's we keep or Linebackers/DE's and/or CB's, guys like Yeatman become expendable fast.

I could be completely wrong, I have no problem admitting as much. But I see the value of our roster spots going up. And ULTIMATELY, I see "Anomalies" like Will Yeatman quickly becoming expendable.

Are you a Dolphins Fan? Urinal Cake;)

Is there a way that fans of other teams can be blocked from seeing this blog or posting on it?

Not because they are fans of other teams but because any so-called 'football' blog where it's a freaking revelation that O.J. Simpson and Gale Sayers were really, REALLY good players is Dumbass Central.

You guys would be laughed outta the room on most Dolphins blogs. I'm not exaggerating.

But you feel the need to keep coming here to mention it. Again and again and again.

Darkoak is right and I'm joining him in his efforts to get YG the help he truly needs.

His latest crisis is a doozy though. He's really done it now, The Ultimate Flip Flopper - Flopped his Flippers!

Apparently YG went through with the surgery and became the Woman he's always wanted too be.

The problem is, of course, he's Flipped back, bought a strap on and is flirting and fantasizing about me being a "Hot Chick with nice boobs and a Dick!"

DAMN! I kept telling him to come out of that closet, but I think he BROKE the damn door down on his WAY OUT!

I'm flattered YG, but you REALLY did it THIS TIME-LOL! I don't know what you're going to do now Flip Flopper, but I get the distinct impression that you're on your way BACK to PRISON!
