« Longest practice of the season (officially) is over | Main | Jerry injured, Dolphins experimenting with OL »

The Dolphins address various issues of note

What are the Dolphins saying their first full week of practice. Here are some snippets (love that word) on various topics:

Coach Joe Philbin on left tackle Jonathan Martin: “We saw a lot of progress, we saw developments there. His technique is good, he needs to work on his punch a little bit better, the consistency of the punch, but I thought overall he played well. He had five games roughly that he played at left tackle last year, so he needs to have frequent snaps but we’re expecting a lot.”

Is Philbin comfortable with the depth along the OL? “Not necessarily, I don’t know that I’m comfortable with the depth of any position yet. We’re still in that initial phase of camp, still a lot of teaching going on, not overly concerned with who’s getting a rep against who at this point in time. We’re more concerned about the volume of work that we can get done, the amount of things we can teach, get a look at it on the practice field, then go back and reinforce some of the things in the meeting room.  We haven’t really gotten to that stage yet, but I don’t know that I’m comfortable at a lot of positions yet."

What are John Jerry's thoughts on the OL? "We are going to be alright up front. We have five preseason games, so that will benefit a lot of guys."

Jerry on the eventual challenge from Lance Louis for his starting RG job: "I’m a competitor. Lance is a competitor. We are going to compete. We are going to help each other. We are going to make each other better."

But, but, but John, Lance Louis wants your job: "You know, I think he has that mindset, and I’ve got that mindset. At the same time, we are just trying to get better."

New receiver Mike Wallace and quarterback Ryan Tannehill haven't connected on any significan deep passes in live team periods yet. Is that a product of the installation of the offense, Mike? “We have different days where we do different things. I have all the confidence that Coach (Mike) Sherman is going to put it in how it is needed to be put in. I’m not really worried about that. I think that will come in due time. It is only day (four at practice). We have a lot more days to go at camp and especially before the regular season. I think everything will fall in place. I think they have a good plan in place for us."

Cameron Wake sort of took Olivier Vernon under his wings, so to speak, in the offseason and the two defensive ends -- one accomplished, one wanting to accomplish -- spent time together in the offseason.

What happened during that time, Cam Wake?

“He’s one of the guys I was talking to some of the guys earlier, he’s probably one of the most improved guys on the team.  I spent a little time with him in the offseason. He’s a guy who’s hungry and from the day he got here, you knew he was one of those guys with that mindset, being a small defensive end like me and some of the other guys on the team, you can’t go in there timid.  It’s not for the meek and mild. You have to go in there, throw your body in there, doesn’t matter if he’s 6’8 and 400 pounds, you have to go after him and tackle him.  It’s that pit bull mentality. It’s not the size of the dog in the fight; it’s the size of the fight in the dog. So he’s that kind of guy."

Does Wake like Vernon's approach?

"He came here with a lot of that, and I don’t want to toot my horn too much but, I like to think that I’m a guy that he can learn some things from and take some pieces of my game and incorporate his own style too.  He brought a lot already when he signed up here, but that guys is a hell of a player and I know he’s only going to get better."

I know, I can bash with the best of them here. Therefore, I have no problem with the bashing here now being called, "GETTING YG'D".

I actually find it rather hilarious. You're nobody in life until something's named after you. LOL...

And how desperate is your need to point that out?

Isn't that what you are doing?

Hi Dashi!

I didn't call him desperate I asked him if his need was desperate, that's the difference. Try reading before you write, it's a helpful skill.

Why is it if someone says 2 sentences DashOdy doesn't like, heShe has to always respond back with 2 paragraphs of nonsense?

Devlin Vs Matt Moore Is What The Preseason Is About.

Not Matt Moore Vs T-Hill.

The Battle Is For #2, Not #1.

Plain And Simple.

Pea soup is delicious and nutritious. It is also loaded with fiber that will keep your bowel movements regular and satisfiying.

This alone will help reduce tension amongst the bloggers.

Like The RB. They Are Playing For #2. To Battle D.Thomas.

L.Miller Doesn't Fumble, He Is The Best Zone Runner On The Team. And Is One Of The Fastest Players On The Team. Which Is One Of The Fastest In The League.

MIKE WALLACE HAS CAUGHT A TON OF PASSES IN CAMP AND NOT

ALL DEEP BALLS, WHICH PROVES HE'S NOT A 1 TRICK PONY.

WALLACE = KING OF YARDS AFTER CATCH

Dashi come back to bed honey.

Ok, fair enough. Devlin has had two seasons with two different coaching staffs to win that battle, and didn't. Let's see if it will be strike three........or not.

I'll bet out of 32 GM's, 32 would take Moore over Devlin. If Devlin wins the competition outright then I'm all for moving him up.

You Are The #1 Hater Here. I'm Just Pointing Out The Truth. How Many times Have You Used Dashi's Name In Vain? The Truth Or You Are Going To Hell.

Does this blog ever gravitate above silliness? It is like some weird social club.

"It now appears they don't have much on Hernandez. They aren't even certain if they will go ahead with the prosecution.
We could have picked him up on waivers. What was there to lose??"

Are you serious? The Pouncey bros got lambasted for wearing a hat to support their ex-teammate. Can you imagine what the public would have to say if the Fins picked him up? And, if I'm not mistaken, Commish said he was not to be signed once the pats dumped him due to the publicity.

It does 2015 there is a good group of people that just want to talk football. It's hard to sustain because of the said silliness, trolling, and jerkoffery.

Anyway you've made some good posts.

Rick S. I think until Tannehill is unquestionably a great starter, people will have hero worship for our 2nd and 3rd string QBs. If he's awesome going forward people will stop talking about Devlin.

I have begun o wonder if he's not here to agitate purposely (Mando's plant) or maybe Mando himself and/or him and a couple of others (could be the guy he hosted his Armando & the Amigo show with) looking to pump up hits in the only claim to fame he has left at the Herald which is the amount of supposed traffic here bumping up advertising Dollars?

Armando and the Amigos. Some little sh-t there.

Can any of you do basic arithmetic?

How many bloggers are here?

How many hits a day does this blog get compared to the major sports sites?

As an advertiser, how much would you pay to reach maybe 20 people here????? I'll tell you. Zilcho.

And just read the blog, do you think any advertiser cherishes this crowd?

You are all quite naive in the workings of the net

I'm not much of a radio guy, but Armando's radio show may have been the very worst show I ever heard in my life. Painfully awful. I could not imagine how it could have been worse. Pure trash.

Maybe that explains the bloggers he attracts.

Darkoak,

The only thing that could kill all the work the team did in the Off-Season sending it all spiraling out of control into some dismal 5-11 campaign would be a QB controversy at this point because it would mean the 8th overall pick of the 2012 draft is falling flat!!

Those screaming for Moore or Devlin at this point haven't taken the time to fully grasp the deflating blow it would be to this young team if Tannehill bombs. Matt Moore coming off the bench means were back to stop gap QB's with no clear direction towards the future!!

Devlin may look great running the 2's and 3's (scout team) but if our Offensive minded H.C. and his O.C. and QB Coach all signed off on making our back up an Off-Season priority and highest paid QB on the roster then it tells you all you need to know about how they feel about the ability of Devlin at this stage of his development. The only thing that could swing that tidal wave would be Devlin coming in and going gangbusters pulling a Kurt Warner type Season out because anything less would split the Locker Room and cut Philbin's stay very short!

I really don't exactly know how the hits on Blogs produce revenue but I know they do and many Blogs would not survive without them. Now, is it the # of hits that count or the quality of the majority of them? If it's the latter, Armando is fukkked.

This is worse than a Spanish novela filmed in the Yucatan peninsula sometimes!

I think its safe to say that Tannehill is still struggling with the speed of the NFL. Just like Henne, he is slow to make a decision .

If Tannehill were to fall flat like Henne or worse Gabbert style then I would imediately start looking at Terry Bridgewater in all honesty!

At best the Herald gets a couple of hundred dollars extra for an ad on this sad blog. Big deal.

Most likely the Herald will be out of business within 5 years. The nationwide news will just assign writers to the various cities.

What about if Devlin proves in pre-Season that he can move the Team and score better than Tannehill does, f4l? Big time problem. But a good problem to have, as Shula used to say when there was good competition between 2 talented Players.

The Dolphins may be put of business within 5 years also. Or moved to another city.

The only people who subscribe to the Herald are daily black bean eaters or daily plaintain eaters. In other words, the lower class immigrants with little spare change.
The Herald is slowly suffocating to death.

Who would pay to read such trash? There are better sources of information for any category that exists in the newspaper. Even Armando is ALWAYS dead last on breaking fins news....the outsiders are ahead of him.

Devlin??? He's terrible, trust me.

Look at the regular bloggers. Pathetic. Advertisers are not going to pay up to reach a crowd of maybe 20 immature baboons. They look for the intelligent spending crowd.

Perfect example is at 8:16pm. This Dashi was too lazy to take 3 extra seconds to look up the correct spelling of Idolizing. It is total kiddie town here. Advertizers are not paying up for this deliquent center of yappers.

Armando is the best Dolphin writer there is. Timely articles and expert perspective. There is a reason he has the biggest and best blog.

Many "New Cubans" and Central-American immigrants still buy the printed edition of El Nuevo Herald. Only thing is they buy 1 copy to be read among 15 family members and friends.

The Herald will be lucky to last 3 more years. You'll see.

But a good problem to have, as Shula used to say when there was good competition between 2 talented Players.

Not at the most important position on the team it would have the potential to split the Locker Room especially on such a young team!

RE: 99-01 Tampa Bay Bucs!

Nah, they just moved into a bigger upgraded building. The Herald online is going gangbusters.

RT17 is still learning. He definetely does not look to be of the Gabbert (scared running 4 his life) or Henne (robotic, stiff and unsure of himself) type of QB. Shyt, Peyton Manning, sure fire first ballot HOF QB threw what like 30 picks his rookie season? We didn't see that out of RT17. He had no guys that could separate last year and really no running game (except for when Miller was in), no seam threat TE, and we want him to succeed? WITH WHAT?

He found a little rythm with Fartline but other than that, he really had dookie to work with. That being said, this year u have the weapons. This year, u have a better understanding of the system. This year, no excuses!

So, if that were to happen, Devlin>Tannehill, what would you do, f4l? Please provide solutions also.(I know what you are going to escape out of this one with, that's hypothetical). Yes?

The Herald can't even afford writers that write proper English. I seriously doubt Armando today could pass my 5th grade English course years ago.

Only fault with Armando is that esoteric Religion he belongs to. Driving him crazy.

Armando is a bible thumper true blue. This is another way to say extremely stupid and gullible.

The Dolphins may be put of business within 5 years also. Or moved to another city.

I don't think the NFL would let that happen to one of it's premier SB venues. The SB snub was the League giving St. politicians a back handed slap while endorsing/backing a member of their Club. Make no mistake Goodell will keep a team in Miami and before anybody gets going on LA that deal is all but done with the Chargers moving in!

Most of the population is so unstudied that they don't realize the bible is relatively a brand new book. The vast majory of human civilization existed before the bible, not after. We know none of them are suffering for not having believed in a book that wasn't written yet.

Digital publications are in a bind, Monte. They charge for the reading of the content, People will go somewhere else to get their news. They don't, and their profit is minimized. Then?

Everything about Miami is a dump. The city has gone downhill steadily for 40 years now. You only live in Miami if you have no other choice.

- You have an incredible knowledge of my body, Oscar. - Yes, Sandy.

Armando is a far more intelligent man and a better writer than most People here suspect. It's just that fault...

"This city has gone downhill in the past 10 years, Dr.", a Hialeah Pakistani cab driver.

I have never been to Miami.
I have never been south of Kissemmee.

In Miami are there women that wear white tank top, white pants, white pumps, red lipstick and gold hoop earrings?

A Hialeah Pakistani cab driver? Yes, he was born in Hialeah of a Pakistani family but he considers himself Pakistani'.

Is there really a place called 8th Street Latinas? Or is that an urban legend?

Only a Jests fan would support Irescum anymore.

Yes. It only takes me 3 strokes to take it out of them, x times. "Me vas a matar, co~o. Yo no vengo mas aqui!".

Zonk,
You just put us through 5 pages of telling us over and over again how great all of the Phins are.
Now you're putting Ireland down? Puh-leeese.

Good points fin4life, I hear you about the backup QB worship.

Oh, it's Puh-leeese? Thank you.

Irescum needs to be fired 4 years ago.
