Dolphins lose, say they're ready

So the Dolphins lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 17-16. They're 1-3 this preseason.

So, of course, they believe they're ready for the regular season.

"Yeah, I'm ready," running back Lamar Miller said. "I just feel like I'm ready. I can help this team win. I'm ready."

He should feel ready because Miller thinks he won the starting running back job Saturday night.

"I do feel like I won the job," he said.

Miller gained 35 yards on eight carries. That's a 4.4 average. It included a 20-yard run. With Daniel Thomas gaining 3 yards on seven carries -- a 0.4 yard per carry average -- I do not disagree.

Lamar Miller is your starting running back.

WR Mike Wallace, who had three catches but dropped on pass, also thinks he's ready to go for the 2013 season.

"I hope so, it's two weeks away, so I hope I'm ready," Wallace said. "Yeah, I think I'm ready. I'm pretty sure. I'll be ready to make some plays when my number's called."

Quarterback Ryan Tannehill, who played well and delivered a 90 QB rating, believes the offense is "just a hair off."

"I think we're close," Tannehill said. "We've progessed each week and now it's exciting. Now it's time to buckle it up and play for real."

As for himself, Tannehill thinks it's coming.

"I'm progressing," he said. "I'm moving in the right direction."

Coach Joe Philbin wasn't quite as certain things are all set to go as the Dolphins have one preseason game left -- a game in which the starters aren't likely to play very long.

"We didn't play well enough in any phase of the game to win the game," Philbin said.

How about the red zone offense, Joe?

"Not good enough," he said.

Third down offense?

"I didn't think we were very good there. We have a lot of work to do."

The starting offense overall?

"I guess we were okay as an offense," Philbin said. "It wasn't great."

Michael Egnew didn't catch a pass nor was he targetted. Charles Clay had one catch on six targets. Dion Sims had one catch off his only target.

John Jerry started at right guard. Josh Samuda played with starters and on second team after Jerry left the game with approximately 16 snaps. Lance Louis played in the second half.

And then this:

For whatever struggle the Dolphins offense is having I refer you to the fact the Jets and Bills are a disaster offensively.

In Buffalo, neither E.J. Manuel nor Kevin Kolb can stay healthy. It is to the point the team will be working out multiple QBs on Sunday and one of those is former Dolphins draft pick bust John Beck.

In New York, Rex Ryan is seemingly trying to get fired. Rookie quarterback Geno Smith three three interceptions and actually stepped out of the end zone on a quarterback scramble for a safety. Bad night.

Mark Sanchez had a worse night. Ryan actually inserted the veteran into the game in the fourth quarter behind the reserve offensive line. And Sanchez injured his right (throwing) shoulder.

No words.

That 1st drive was 17 plays 76yds. But was aided by penalties to keep the drive alive. Then the other 2 drives were both 10 play drives, with 1 resulting in td.

Still need to clean up the redzone execution. A 17 play, 8:25 sec drive needs to be punctualized with 7pts.

Martin is horrble at LT and some need to stop kidding themselves. The guy is a turnstyle, period.

Thing I miss most about early 70's Fins offense were the long time consuming td drives. I remember once a td drive going like 22 plays and nearly 13 mins. There are only 15 mins in a qtr.

We did get spoiled in the 70's and 80's.
Because.."There are only 15 minutes in a Quarter"

.....YG.. Redzone scoring is the biggest question mark for me regarding this offense. Can we improve in what has been a weakness for this team for too long? I would say if we can improve by 1 TD per game. Avergage over 24 points per game...We will be a playoff team. Only 2 teams averaged over 24 points and missed the playoffs(Giants,Bucs)

If our defense plays as well as I think, or hope. We win a fair amount of games if we average around 24 ppg.

The offence will be more pathetic than last year. Tannehill has trouble scoring, theres no RB's, TE's or OL.

When you get an injury like Keller it really exposes Irelands total draft incompetence. How does he still have a job? Its mind boggling.

Dolphins offense need to average 24 points per game in order to contend for playoffs

So Tannehill barely walked away w one freakin TD for the entire first half and the Kool Aid drinkin fans think Tannehill is the greatest

1 TD a 5 YD pass in an entire half of football which the Dolphins had possession of the ball for an enormous amount of time including a fizzled out 16 play 8 minute drive

So Dolfans are sooo happy Today w Tannehill getting 1 TD in almost 3 Qs of football and losing another game

Looks like last year where TannFAIL led the team to 0 points in 4 Qs against the worst NFL defense after an entire year of development

Do Dolfans really think 1 or 2 TDs a game is going to win in the NFL? SMH

TanneFAIL is worse than Henne

Reading Salguero's blog is like listening to Charlie Brown's teacher......anyway, here's a radical Idea; Use the best blocking tight end still on the roster to play that position. Play a 2-slot receiver set and use Gibson in what would have been Keller's role....

Chief Strongbow...

Great old school wrestling reference....I'm an 80s and 90s kid...but I remember the name a bit.....

Was watching the ROCK's rise to stardom piece on Netflix a few weeks ago....

I think Stongbow is either the Rock's uncle....or just a good friend of the family....

Still a cool name tho....

How does he still have a job? Its mind boggling.

Another thing that is mind boggling is that you even had the intellectual capacity to learn how to use the internet.

AFC East Question. If the Jets Sanchez tore up his shoulder or will miss significant time how long will it take them to say anything after last nights epic meltdown with Ryan? What an awesome mess. I admit it their misery is enjoyable.

Fox sports has an article saying he should be fired immediately for playing his starting QB with the 2nd team line in a preseason game. I agree it has to be time for a complete rebuild after the latest debacle.

Tannehills quarterback rating is over 98 percent

To be clear...My posts earlier about Sherman's red zone scheme was not trying to suggest that "I know more." I was just saying I didn't like the bunched offensive set up as it brought the Buc's D to the middle of the field, which seemed to make it harder to run against. That is all. Not saying I know more.

I also said earlier, in response to Oscar, that Sherman's lack of creativity in the preseason makes sense to me. Why show upcoming opponents your hand and arsenal of high performing plays.

Finally, I listed 10 things I thought went well and 10 things I thought that didn't go well. So, if only one of my 20 total points was attacked I guess I faired pretty well on this board.

Would you like a popsicle?

Ireland looking suspect again as the trade up for the number 3 over all pick of the 2013 NFL Draft
will not be practicing or playing until after the season starts
Dion Jordan has a chronic shoulder injury after having surgery 6 months ago and still, … cannot go

Home reaching for straws again...

Jay, it was 3rd string and player who will not be with the team that lost that game.

I'm back.

What is Tanne's rating this preseason?

Steve in Ottawa, is that what you really saw. Incredible they 322 in office, TB gad 160, Tanny was 17-27 150 and a TD in 1/2 the game. Are you a moron.

This blog is getting dumber by the day...

Home, moron read my above post, and it was a 10 yard pass and the were winning 13-10

Tany's rating about 105,3

Jack! you are dumb for even posting here.

The Phins are going to be the team that no one wants to play after October. I completely agree with Polian. I'll take his word over well..mostly anyone here. I think the problems they had last night which were only a few can be fixed and players will improve.

the comments on this site are just pure insanity. i see all the other qbs in the league throwing picks except tanne. i just dont get it. i dont think im watching the same game that these other people are watching. i thought the guy was throwing seeds last night. nobody completes 100% of their throws and nobody scores tds every time they have the ball. you people are out of your minds. oh by the way, the defense looks fast and f-ing mean. they are gonna be nasty. let me guess, you guys thought the defense was terrible too.

what you don't get is none of these posters believe in anything they write, they are just bored and do it to get fools to respond. maybe 1 out of 10 here is a serious poster, if there are even 10 different posters here.

don't be a fool.

Watching live the Jets season go down in flames last night was priceless. Rex is a joke of a coach, he and Sparano made quite a team!

As to our Phins, I think progress has been made but I still find the GM and the coaching staff to be to stiff and stubborn. By now the entire NFL world knows Reggie will have a big season as a RB/WR hybrid, he is just explosive and elusive while in open space. Why did the coaching staff wanted hi to be a feature, between tackles RB is a mystery, and even if Reggie himself wanted that the team could have obviously approached him when renegotiating to tell him well you know we tried and it did not work but this is what we think you could be great.

TE was a glaring need and although I applaud the pick of Dion Sims, we could have traded or gotten another TE rather than Keller, who unfortunately had a recent history of health issues. DJ was a luxury pick, but for better or worse he is here now and just wish the team does not rush him back into action.

The team overall looks solid and in the perhaps the weakest division in football th Phins have a legit chance to contend for a playoff spot. As it is now we should sweep both Jets and Bills and possibly split with the Pats.

This team is headed into the right direction but it will take a more seasoned coaching staff -which I hope they become this season- to be a tad more flexible, and a GM who can acknowledge some mistakes -on time- like Egnew and stop taking too many chances on oft-injured players.

I was pleasantly surprised by how quick Brandon Gibson is for such a big slot guy running those quick, compact patterns. To be heard from during the regular Season.

i hope you are right man. im sitting here wondering why our own fans are just continually bashing our team before the season even starts. i am trying to be nice but i actually want to hunt them down and beat them

Tanne is having a great summer, good for him.

As the 24th ranked team in the power rankings we should be able to romp on the Jville's and TB's of the world.

We should be able to grab the low hanging fruit, that is why vegas has us at 7.5.

10-15-20 play drives that consume 8-10-12 minutes are wonderful - when we have the lead.

But what happens when we are behind? When Tanne has to take chances; when Tanne has to throw into double coverage to give the WR a chance to make a play some of those balls are going to get picked off and when they do Tanne falls apart.

I like Tanne fine, I think he is a cool guy but he is not an elite, franchise QB.

Not insanity greg just mostly untrue and unfair from the negative group. Ever read the blog during a game when it's even worse in here?

Anyone that watches replays can see when T-hill throws the ball and he does have a lively arm...most of the time it's a missile and only where our player can get to it.

...I wonder if after watching the tape of last nights game if the FO will be keeping a close eye on the waiver wire for a TE? I'm not jumping ahead of myself, I'm not even saying that perhaps the tape will tell a different story. But from the broadcast. It sure looked like Clay had a tough game.

Now I know that some are going to respond, or have the opinion that why would we take another teams reject? Or it's too early to give up on player x..Perhaps. I'm just saying that is a possibility that because of the numbers game. A quality veteran may be available that fits our system that could be an upgrade..

Word around the campfire is Eagles Brent Celek

Keller did not have a history of injury. He had one injury in all his NFL years. 1.

Those posters who criticize Jeff Ireland need to ask themselves whether or not they have ever made a mistake. Jeff Ireland is a human being, subject to all of the foibles and frailties that we all have. Should he have paid more attention to the offensive line and tight end position? Should he have thought a little more before trading two picks for an injured player? Sure, but at what cost? Missing his son's soccer game? Let's keep all of this in perspective and not let a few innocent mistakes cause us to condemn Jeff Ireland, a darn good father and man.

ExposingTheFraud, the ranking are based on last year's performance, and last year team. That's what the person in charge of the rankings said on George Sedano's radio should. He said he expects the Phins to climb the rankings quickly when the season starts.

LeopardLarry, you are correct, just last year, and they can look that one up. A lot of misconception on this blog.

We all know it's you! So, stop it! Your Jets will suck this year and Miami will have a better season. There's nothing you can do to prevent it! You can post under a different name each time, and you can post stupid remarks all you want, but we know it's you....

Who else would it be?

Who else would it be?

Bal, Atl, Indy, NO all in the first 5 weeks.

Matty Ice is not phuccing around.
Drew Brees is not phuccing around.
Andy Luck is not phuccing around.
Joe Flacco is really not phuccing around.

All 4 of those gus are going to attack our CBs and put us in an early hole that Tanne is going to have to throw his way out of.

I think some here are wrong about our opponent yesterday. TB is no Jacksonville. They are excellently coached with average to good talent. Did you see any of their Players miss any tackles or make mistakes? The score reflected this fact. TB to be heard from during the Season.

Of course many good Players are going to be cut this year when a very talented rookie was drafted to play their position at 100th the price of the vet. Watch out for them!

7 wins: Buf, Buf, NYJ, NYJ, Cle, Car, TB

7 losses: Atl, NO, Bal, Cin, NE, NE, Cin

2 Toss-Ups: SD, Pit

Indy has no corner than can cover Mike Wallace.

Nither does Atl or Indy

We've seen Wallace torment Ravens DB's for a while now

thanks dadsmithwest. i actually think that tanne looked great last year, considering what he had to work with. im moving on to the sun-sentinel. i cant deal with the negativity anymore. these people should be kicked off the site, but until they are, i have to move to another site for my own sanity.

if you think that joe flacco is a good QB then you have no idea what you are talking about. he has produced ( along with eli) some of the most pathetic QB play i have ever seen out of this league. now im moving on to the sun-sent.

6-10 6-10 6-10 6-10 6-10 6-10 6-10 MAYBE 5-11...
No one is uttering Super Bowl anymore.
Reality has set in.

Answers From last night...
Gray has not beat out Gillislee for #3 RB spot and his fumble was terrible.
Miller ran better than Thomas and blocked well. He should be the starter.
#1 Miller
#2 Thomas
#3 Gillislee

Tannehill is inaccurate and throws int's. What game were some of you watching...Phins are garbage.

Miller and Thomas are your rb's...lmao.
This team could easily be 4-14, 3-13.
Just a few more injuries.
What if Wallace and Miller get hurt ?

Meant to say

7 Wins: Buf, Buf, Nyj, NYJ, Cle, Car, TB

6 Losses: Atl, NO, Bal, Cin, NE, NE,

3 Toss-Ups: SD, Pit, Indy

In December we go to NYJ, Buf, Pit

Based on this schedule we need if we can win 2 of the first 5 then we will be one game ahead of Vegas expectations.

@greg the same few guys that post BS here daily do the very same over there. notice home is over posting too. they are equal opportunity with their BS.

I want you to tongue my hairy balls and toss my salad you hypersensitive c u n t. Then when you get done, you can start blowing me.

F u c k off

Cry Babies fails to see irony.

It's the same idiots in here that during the game scream and cry because Tanne can't lead his receivers and then come in here the next day talking about how great Tanne is.

Some here might say, how can a Doctor who has never played a second of organized Football has such great acumen that Football People sometimes listen to him? Ahh, you don't know the power of Observation. When I call a patient in from the reception room, if he/she hears me then I don't have to worry about their hearing. As they get up from their seat and walk towards me, I can tell if they are arthritic, knee injuries, neurological gait disorder? As they enter mu office and from their back, I can tell which seat they use, if any, disoriented, assertive if they sat in my chair, etc. And so on. The power of Observation translates, of course. I only need from 1/2 to 1 second to evaluate a Player or Football situation.
